Fabrice Mba’s love for Chinese culture and martial arts (武术) began in his childhood in Cameroon, where
he grew up watching kung fu movies. His elder brother was a projectionist (放映员) and Mba often helped him
sweep the theater. For the first time, he saw Shaolin monks on the screen. “I discovered kung fu and Chinese
culture. It spoke a lot to me. ” He and his friends would imitate characters from the movies, but there was no kung
fu club to train them.
When he was 8, he left home with his elder sister to live in the capital, Yaounde where he met a group of
Chinese engineers in the 1980s. They built the Yaounde Conference Center, a China-aid project. He often went
there with his friends and watched them training. One day, to his excitement, a man in the project called to them
and asked them to learn kung fu together. After that, he came every morning to learn kung fu. He trained hard and
learned some basic movements. Mba recalls, “That was a turning point in my kung fu journey. ”
His life took another turn in 2011, when he met a director of the Confucius Institute (研 究 所 ) at the
University of Yaounde II, during one of his training sessions. Mba joined in the institute. Thanks to a scholarship,
he got the chance to train in martial arts at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province.

short-term kung fu training to young people. He also teaches kung fu in several schools. He wants to help promote

Happiness is not a warm phone, according to a new study exploring the link between young life satisfaction
and screen time. The study was led by professor of psychology Jean M. Twenge at San Diego State University
(SDSU).
To research this link, Twenge, along with colleagues Gabrielle Martin at SDSU and W. Keith Campbell at
the University of Georgia, dealt with data from the Monitoring the Future (MtF) study, a nationally representative
survey of more than a million U. S. 8th-, 10th-, and 12th-graders. The survey asked students questions about how
often they spent time on their phones, tablets and computers, as well as questions about their face-to-face social
interactions and their overall happiness.
On average, found that teens who spent more time in front of screen devices—playing computer games,
using social media, texting and video chatting—were less happy than those who invested more time in non-screen
activities like sports, reading newspapers and magazines, and face-to-face social interactions.
“The key to digital media use and happiness is limited use,” Twenge said. “Aim to spend no more than two
hours a day on digital media, and try to increase the amount of time you spend seeing friends face-to-face and
exercising—two activities reliably linked to greater happiness.”
Looking at historical trends from the same age groups since the 1990s, it’s easy to find that the increase of
screen devices over time happened at the same time as a general drop-off in reported happiness in U. S. teens.
Specifically, young peopled life satisfaction and happiness declined sharply after 2012. That’s the year when the
percentage of Americans who owned a smartphone rose above 50 percent. By far the largest change in teens' lives
between 2012 and 2016 was the increase in the amount of time they spent on digital media, and the following
decline in in-person social activities and sleep.
9.Which method did Twenge’s team use for the study
A.Calculating students’ happiness.
B.Asking students certain questions.
C.Analyzing data from a survey.
D.Doing experiments on screen time.
10.How does the author develop the finding of the study in paragraph 3
A.By making a comparison. B.By giving an example.
C.By making an argument. D.By introducing a concept.
11.What is the purpose of the last paragraph
A.To draw a conclusion from the study.
B.To offer some advice to the readers.
C.To prove social activities’ importance.
D.To support the researchers’ finding.
12.Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.Quitting Phones Equals Happiness
B.Screen Time Should Be Banned
C.Teens’ Lives Have Changed Sharply
D.Screen-addicted Teens Are Unhappier
【答案】9.C 10.A 11.D 12.D

的方法。即分析现有调查数据而非直接提问。故选 C。
10.推理判断题。根据“On average, found that teens who spent more time...were less happy than those who
invested more time in non-screen activities...face-to-face social interactions.”可知,第三段将花更多时间在屏幕
设备上的青少年与参与非屏幕活动的青少年的幸福感进行对比,属于对比手法。故选 A。
11.推理判断题。根据“Looking at historical trends from the same age groups since the 1990s...Specifically,

Recently, a great scientific discovery amazed the world. Chinese scientists have already found a new
method to produce water on the Moon, which could change how we think about living on the Moon in the future!
They wrote about their discovery in a science magazine called The Innovation. Their discovery shows that by
using lunar soil (月壤), scientists can create a lot of water on the Moon.
In the past, missions to the Moon showed that there might be ice at the Moon’s north and south poles (极).
However, there isn’t much water in lunar soil—only a little bit, like 0.0001 percent to 0.02 percent, which makes
it hard to find and use water there. So it’s difficult for people to expect to live on the Moon.
The researchers, however, found something exciting, after studying the rocks and soil from the Moon
brought back by the Chang’e-5 spacecraft. One of the exciting things they discovered is that lunar soil melts (融化)
when it reaches over 1,000℃. When it begins to melt, it produces water vapor (蒸气). They learned that just 100g
of lunar soil can give us 5.1g to 7.6g of water. So, if we had one ton of lunar soil, we could get between 51kg and
76kg of water. That’s enough to give drinking water to 50 people for one day!
All in all, this research opens up new possibilities for finding water on the Moon. It’s important for future
trips to the Moon and people who might live there someday. As we learn more about how to make water from
lunar soil, we get closer to the dream of humans living on the Moon. This discovery could help make that dream
come true!
13.Why does the writer mention the earlier research in Paragraph 2
A.To show that it was totally wrong.
B.To compare it with the new discovery.
C.To prove that there is no running water on the Moon.
D.To explain why people wanted to live on the Moon before.
14.How much water may scientists get if they have 1,000g of lunar soil
A. B. C. D.
15.What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the dream of humans living on the Moon
A.Hopeful. B.Worried. C.Surprised. D.Doubtful.
16.What can we infer (推断) from the text
A.Humans are the builders of the earth.
B.Mistakes often help us find the truth.
C.Scientific discoveries are continually moving forward.
D.Future space exploration faces challenges and chances.

Today, Mba is well-known in Cameroon when it comes to kung fu. He runs a program that offers free
short-term kung fu training to young people. He also teaches kung fu in several schools. He wants to help promote
Chinese culture. “I’d like to encourage other people to learn kung fu, to really encourage them to admire Chinese
culture as I have, ” he says. Mba adds that as more people take up kung fu in Cameroon, he hopes to continue to
offer valuable training in the future.

D

Huang Xuhua, an outstanding Chinese scientist, is widely known as the “Father of China’s Nuclear

Japanese planes often made attacks on Chinese cities. From then on, he made up his mind to study shipbuilding,
believing that it was the key to making China stronger.

first nuclear attack submarine, Long March No.1, was ready for sea tests and entered service (服务) in 1974,
making China the fifth country in the world to own this powerful weapon (武器).
In 1988, at the age of 62, he still went to the research center often, hoped to pass on his knowledge and
