Music is different from songs. Songs express feelings with lyrics, but music with tones (音调). Unlike
songs, music tones in themselves have no specific meanings. Different people may get different things from the
same musical performance. Though some music works are difficult to understand, people need music in their
daily life because it brings fun to them. Different people like different music: some love classical music, and
others take an interest in pop music. Most young people like pop music.
Pop music began in the USA and became popular around the world during the 1950s and 1960s. The
best-known early kind of pop music was “rock and roll”. Pop music has taken the place of native music in many
parts of the world. It has caused the number of people for “jazz” music to become much smaller than in the 1950s
and earlier and it has now begun to become the most popular. Much pop music is without artistic (艺术的) value,

The Taklimakan Desert (塔克拉玛干沙漠), which is in the northwest part of China, is the biggest desert in
our country. It has been a big worry because it’s really large, about 337, 600 square kilometers and there are a lot
of sandstorms that come from it. These sandstorms are very bad for the nature and the way people live around it.
So, people started a big project to put a green belt (带) around the desert.
By the end of 2023, a large part of a 2,761-kilometer-long green belt had already been made around the
desert. In 2024, the last 285 kilometers, mostly in the south of the desert where the sandstorms are super bad, were
finished. Now the whole Taklimakan Desert has a green belt all around it. This Project has to do with six counties
(县) in three parts of Xinjiang.
The building of this green belt used many different scientific ways. For example, the China Railway
Construction Development Group (中铁建发展集团) made ingredients of the sand-stopping system to stop the
sand. This system has three main things. There are tall things to stop the sand, squares made of straw (草方格)
and wide lines of trees. These things work together well to stop the desert from getting bigger.
China’s largest desert fully encircled (环绕) with green belt. When the green belt around the desert was
successfully finished, it brought a lot of good things. First, it made the nature around the desert better. There are
fewer and not as strong sandstorms now. Second, it kept the farming near the desert safe. Also, the places where
people live in cities and in the countryside are nicer. Because there are fewer sandstorms, there is less harm to the
things like roads and buildings, and more people come to visit. So, the local people can make more money from
having visitors. This project shows how much China wants to stop the desert from getting worse and make the
nature better.

Exams are a fact of school life for most people. Almost everyone worries about exams and feels stressed,
although they have prepared well for them. A little stress caused by the exams is useful as it can sharpen (变得清
晰) your mind and encourage you to do well. But too much stress can stop you working to the best of your
abilities, so it’s important not to let it get out of control. Here are some ideas to help you.
If you want to avoid unnecessary exam stress, you must prepare carefully for exams. Firstly, try to find a
copy of the syllabus (教学大纲) for each subject. This tells you what you need to know and gives you the topics
for revision (复习). Secondly, make a weekly revision timetable chart and display in your study place. Lastly,
record the dates and times for each of your exams in your planner or diary and make a copy to put on your wall at
home.
During your exam period, you want your brain to work at its very best, so build in relaxation time before
bed, avoid staying up late to review and try to go to bed early to get enough sleep. If you have difficulty
answering a question, leave it and move on to the next one—don’t spend time tying yourself to each question.
You are not alone while dealing with the stress. Call psychological (心理的) hotline to share your worries
and get help from others going through the same experience. Remember that things may feel stressful right now,
but it won’t last forever. And the rest of your life will still be there.

【答案】One possible version
Good habits benefit a person’s whole life. Among the habits I’ve developed in junior high, daily reading
has helped me grow the most. Every evening, I spend 30 minutes reading English articles or stories. I underline
new words, look them up in the dictionary, and try to use them in my writing.
This habit not only improved my language skills but also made me more interested in different cultures. For
example, after I read about scientists’ stories, I became curious about how the world works. Gradually, my grades
in English and science rose. More importantly, daily reading taught me patience and focus.
Now, I realize that small habits like reading can shape our future. They help us grow not only in knowledge
but also in character. Let’s build good habits and embrace a brighter tomorrow!

Much pop music is without artistic (艺术的) value,
but the works of some pop singers such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan, the groups like Pink Floyd and Crosby are
excellent. And there is still great interest in it today. Pop music concerts and festivals are held all over the world.
