Living in space is every would-be astronaut's dream. My six-month stay on a space station has come to an end, and it has been a challenging but magical adventure. I bet you'd love to know what daily life is like up in space and how it differs from that on the Earth—the low gravity definitely makes ordinary things strange!
The strangeness of living in space is apparent from the moment we sleep. Due to the near absence of gravity in space, we have to attach ourselves so that we don't float around. We usually sleep in private quarters, which are more like large cupboards, or in sleeping bags attached to the walls or the ceiling. It's strange that we try to sleep with no pressure against our back, but the unusual beds don't bother us any more. After about eight hours of sleep, we start our day of work.
The routine tasks that occupy most of the day are demanding, but they can also be extremely rewarding. Our main mission is to conduct scientific research. We need to evaluate the effects of low gravity on animals and plants. Creatures such as mice, fish and mosquitoes have also been sent to the station! In a low-gravity environment, we can learn more about changes in cells and microorganisms under the microscope.

The streets are wide and clean.
这句话中的 streets是名词,wide和clean是形容词,它们都要重读; The,are,and不重读。
We saw him playing by the river.
On my way to school, my bike was broken.
I'm sorry I can't do that.
Didn't I tell you yesterday
Are you a student
—Yes, I am.
How many boys are there in the room
—There are twenty boys in it.

Three days before the Christmas in 1968, Frank Borman, Jim Lovell and Bill Anders had adventured out to the moon, becoming the first human beings to orbit our closest neighbour in the space. On the Christmas Eve, they pointed a TV camera out of the window of Apollo 8 and showed a global audience of 1 billion the ancient moon moving slowly below their spaceship. As that movie played, Anders began reading, “In the beginning, the Deity created the heaven and the earth...”
“I didn't choose it,” he said, when all three astronauts met to mark the 50th anniversary(周年) of their moon flight,at Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry, where their spaceship is displayed.
When the three men returned to earth on December 27, they were surrounded by a sea of joy. That kind of collective(集体的) joy—born of collective effort—can seem beyond us now. From the factory floor to the three men in the spaceship, an estimated(估计) 400,000 people had a hand in making the moon flight possible. Behind the joy there was also a dark danger Apollo 8 might face. If the astronauts made it into the moon orbit but their engine failed to fire when it was time to return, rescue would be impossible. They would circle the moon forever. But the astronauts did come home, and in the process they gave the world another gift: the celebrated photograph that came to be known as Earthrise.
Even fifty years later, Borman and Lovell continued to play jokes on Anders, 85 then.
“I'm still trying to figure out who did it,” said Borman, with a wink(眨眼睛).
“You did it, I think,” Lovell answered.
“Bill did it,” Borman admitted.
“He didn't want me to take it at first,” Anders said.
“I have never said it before publicly,” said Borman, “but I'm just proud that I was able to fly with these two talented guys. You did a really good job.”

A new study focuses on K2 18b, an exoplanet(系外行星) like the Earth discovered in 2015, orbiting a red dwarf star(矮星) close enough to receive about the same amount of radiation from its star as the Earth does from the sun.
“Studies have suggested that planets with hydrogen rich atmospheres(气体) could host certain forms of life,” Bj rn Benneke said, a professor at the Institute for Research on Exoplanets at Université de Montréal. However, a news release says, “K2 18b's large atmosphere is too thick and creates high pressure conditions, which likely prevents life from existing on the planet's surface.” While these researchers found evidence for liquid water clouds on K2 18b because of its lack of surface, rain wouldn't pour on the planet. Without a real surface, landing on the planet would also be nearly impossible, especially because the gas is so thick and has such a high pressure that any Earth created spacecraft sent there would be devastated.
The research team analysed data from Hubble Space Telescope observations that they made between 2016 and 2017 of the K2 18b planet. It allows scientists to detect(探测) clear characters of water in a planet's atmosphere. This team plans to expand this research even further by studying K2 18b with NASA's James Webb Space Telescope, which is ready to launch in 2021. “This type of research,” Benneke said, “is leading towards a final goal of being able to study the Earth like planet.”
“We are not quite there yet,” he said, “but this is really exciting.”

Zara Rutherford,at age 19, became the youngest woman to fly alone around the world in January, 2022. Her history-making journey covered five continents and more than 28,000 sea miles in 155 days. Her incredible achievement broke two Guinness World Records as Zara became the youngest woman to fly around the globe in a microlight(超轻型) airplane.
“I made it,”Zara said as she reached home and her final destination, Kortrijk-Wevelgem airport in western Belgium.
A large, joyful crowd that included her proud parents awaited her with a hero's welcome. Reporters surrounded her as she got off the aircraft, eager to hear about her amazing journey first-hand.
Zara first left Belgium in a two-seater, microlight plane named Shark UL plane. Along her journey, she landed in 31 countries. The record-breaking trip took 156 days—a little longer than she expected due to unexpected challenges. She was grounded in some countries for weeks, awaiting safe flying conditions and visa (签证) entry approval to her next destination.
Zara flew through wildfires, typhoons and dangerous, sub-zero temperatures to reach her destination and make history.“The hardest part was flying over Siberia—it was extremely cold and, if the engine was to die, I'd be hours away from rescue. I'm not sure I would have survived,” she reflected. One particularly painful moment occurred when she had to make an unscheduled landing in California because of wildfire smoke. “At one point, I just couldn't see anymore,” she said.“It got really turbulent.”
At several points on her journey, Zara said she was struck by the beauty of the natural wonders below. She also came across many kind strangers throughout her trip.

Life on Mars: Is It Really Possible
Now that curiosity is beaming back Earth like pictures of Martian landscapes, the old question raises its head: could man and woman ever go there The answer is, very definitely yes. There are a number of practical challenges to overcome first, however. There are differences between Earth and Mars, but also a number of similarities. 1
Phobos and Deimos
Unlike Earth, Mars does not have a polar magnetic field. Scientists believe that the two Martian moons, Phobos and Deimos, are “captured” little planets. 2
3
For the annual IGEM or International Genetically Engineered Machines competition, students around the world attempt to make living cells perform new tasks. In preparation for the human colonisation of Mars, seeds and organic matter would have to be transported from Earth to begin growing plants and establishing a food supply.
Super sized Bees
Plants need pollinators as well as water, and the best pollinator on Earth is the humble bee—and entire hives would be transported to Mars. 4 However, without natural predators, they could grow very large, indeed.
Overcoming Challenges—Opening Possibilities
There will be other challenges to overcome, for example, the effect on the human body of living in a field of lower gravity. 5 Right now, we ought to welcome the challenges. The more challenges we overcome now, the more prepared we will be for moving out of our solar system and into the grand, universal adventure that is ahead of us.
A.IGEM
B.The next question is:could man colonise Mars
C.Once there, the insects would be let loose among the plants.
D.However, all kinds of other interesting things will be happening.
E.But these are already issues for astronauts living on the International Space Station.
F.They do not have the stabilising effect on the spin of the planet like the moon has upon Earth.
G.Mars has Earth like seasons and the planet surface is abundant in minerals essential for plant growth.
