With Manus, AI experimentation has burst into the open. Give Manus some easy tasks, such as building up a promotional network of social-media accounts, researching and writing strategy documents, or booking tickets and hotels for a conference and one of them can be accomplished online quickly. Manus can also complete some tough tasks. For instance, write a detailed plan, spin up a version of itself to browse the web and give it its best shot.
Manus is a general-purpose AI agent product globally launched by the Chinese large model team Monica in the early morning of March 6, 2025. It is a system built on top of existing models that can interact with the internet and perform a series of tasks without listening to a human user for permission. One of its makers said: “We have built the world’s first general AI agent that ‘turns your thoughts into actions’. It can think, plan, and carry out complex tasks independently. Yet Al labs around the world have already been experimenting with this ‘agentic’ approach in private.”
What makes Manus famous is not that it exists, but that it has been fully unleashed (释放) by its creators. A new age of experimentation is here, and it is happening not within labs, but out in the real world. Spend more time using Manus and it becomes clear that it still has a lot further to go to become consistently useful. Confusing answers, frustrating delays and never-ending loops make the experience disappointing. In releasing it, its makers have never-ending loops that make the experience disappointing.
The emergence of Manus shows important progress in AI in the field of general-purpose intelligent agents, and it provides users with a brand-new AI application mode. However, it is still in the development stage, and its future development potential and application prospects are worth paying attention to.
8. What can we know about Manus in the first paragraph
A. It has no limitations in handling online tasks.
B. It can perform a simple task like writing a specific plan.
C. It has a certain degree of independence in task-handling.
D. It always needs human guidance when performing tasks.
9. What did one of the makers highlight in paragraph 2
A. Manus can accomplish tasks like humans.
B. Their AI agent could do multiple tasks at a time.
C. Manus can take the place of humans completely.
D. Other AI labs experimented on Manus privately before.
10. What is the author’s attitude towards Manus
A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Unclear. D. Doubtful.
11. What is the best title of the passage
A. Model: The Perfect AI Agent B. Monica: An Appealing Creator
C. Manus: A Breakthrough in AI Labs D. Global AI Labs: Joint Efforts for Manus
D
For years, scientists have argued about if dividing forests into smaller parts is good for biodiversity. Some think that separated groups of animals and plants can develop in different ways, just like on islands in the ocean. But Nate Sanders, a University of Michigan ecologist and co-author, said “fragmentation (碎片化) is bad,” which is cited from an article in Nature.
While there are some views that fragmentation can reduce the number of species in one small area, it’s possible that enough differences in the species found in these small areas might add up to greater biodiversity across a fragmented landscape than in a contiguous one. “The key to the debate is that people who argue that fragmentation isn’t so bad say that because you have isolated habitats, you have different species composition, which means it’s good. We can assume that diversity in large areas is going to be higher,” said Thiago Gon alves-Souza, the lead author and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Michigan.
To test whether this is true, 28 scientists from all over the world collected data from 37 studies in six continents. They compared the species in large parts of land with those in small pieces. On average, in fragmented areas, there were 12% fewer species than in large, unbroken areas. The loss was between 10.7% and 18%, even when they thought about the differences in the habitats. When they considered the distance between the small pieces of land, the idea that fragmented areas have more biodiversity disappeared.
“This study resolves a half-century debate about how to conserve biodiversity in natural areas, one started by distinguished scholars including E. O. Wilson and Jared Diamond,” said co-author Nick Haddad, a researcher at Michigan State University.
Does this mean smaller fragments aren’t worth bothering with “Not necessarily,” said Gon alves-Souza. “In many countries, there aren’t many large, complete forests remaining. Therefore, our focus should be on planting new forests and restoring increasingly degraded habitats. Restoration is crucial for the future, more than debating whether it’s better to have one large forest or many smaller fragments.”
12. What is the debate about
A. Why is fragmentation vital to changing species.
B. Where to choose to plant small forests and habitats.
C. How to effectively protect large and unbroken forests.
D. Whether forest fragmentation is beneficial to biodiversity.
13. What did the 28 scientists discover about fragmentation
A. It reduced the number of species.
B. It had few impacts on the species.
C. It led to an increase in biodiversity.
D. It damaged some species in the ocean.
14. What does Nick Haddad think of the study
A. It starts a debate about how to protect nature.
B. It has little impact on how to protect biodiversity.
C. It ends a long discussion about biodiversity conservation.
D. It increases the confusion about biodiversity conservation.
15. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the last paragraph
A. To show that forest fragmentation has unclear solutions.
B. To bring in practical conservation measures at present.
C. To continue the academic debate on forest fragmentation.
D. To prove that smaller fragments are completely unimportant.

Be Energetic in the Springtime
●What is spring drowsiness
It is a state of drowsiness, general weakness, and persistent sleepiness. This is the well-known phenomenon of “spring drowsiness”, when weather gradually warms up.
●____16____
Exercise is a powerful weapon to overcome spring drowsiness. In spring, outdoor sports that allow you to embrace nature affectionately are more than suitable. There are leisurely walks, exciting bike rides, energetic jogs, and challenging mountain climbs, among others.
●What exactly should we do
____17____For those who are usually lacking in exercising, it's not a wise move to start with running blindly. It is highly likely to have a significant impact on the knee joints. However, walking is a different story. People can freely breathe the fresh air filled with the fragrance of plants and trees during the walk. First, stroll leisurely for 5 minutes and then quicken the pace. ____18____ Moreover, each exercise session must ensure a duration of at least 30 minutes.
Mountain climbing is also an amazing aerobic exercise in spring. It can be good for your lung function. ____19____ The winding, rough paths in the mountains are like strict “coaches”, helping people improve their heart function Moreover, viewing the distant scenery during mountain climbing can instantly relieve the tired eye muscles, just like pressing the “pause button” for the tense brain, allowing it to relax and rest.
●What other options should we consider
In addition to using exercise to drive away spring drowsiness, people also need to focus on rest and diet. ____20____ You know, a sweet sleep is like a magical “energy-replenishing station” that can effectively relieve fatigue. In terms of diet, increase the intake of protein consciously. You might as well eat more fish, eggs, milk, soy products, chicken and other delicious foods appropriately, enabling the body to absorb high-quality protein heartily. Eat more alkaline(碱性的) foods. They are like diligent “cleaners” that can sweep away the acidic substances in the body, thus easily getting rid of exhaustion.
A. Be sure to ensure adequate sleep.
B. Why should we handle the phenomenon
C. How should we deal with these symptoms
D. Increase the speed to 120-130 steps per minute.
E. It can also be beneficial to strengthen your heartbeat.
F. The fresh air is good for improving your lung function.
G. Quick walking is certainly the top choice for spring exercise.

It was already hot and humid at eight on that July morning. With a cup of coffee in front of me, I sat at the kitchen table and planned my day: take out some cash at the bank and maybe go to the mall to shop for a new pair of sneakers.
Around 9 o’ clock, I grabbed my purse, said goodbye to my daughter, Fawn, and headed for the car. The bank was two miles from the house. I pulled into a space in front of the glass-enclosed ATM machine. I hopped out of the car with the engine running and the air conditioner on.
The ATM machine sucked in my card and asked for my PIN number. I typed it in.
When I got the cash, I went to the car and tugged (拉) on the door handle. If ever I had an uh-oh moment, it was then. The door was locked, and the key was in the car!
The sun was beating down on me while I stood discouraged, wondering what to do. I didn’t like the thought of a two-mile hike back to the house to get the spare set of keys.
I entered the bank and took a deep breath of cool air before approaching a teller window. The young woman who greeted me listened sympathetically as I told her my problem. When I asked if I could make a call, she cheerfully showed me to the end of the counter and pushed a telephone across the polished surface.
“Hello, Fawn,” I said when my daughter answered. “I locked my key in the car at the bank, and the engine is running. Would you bring me the spare set, please ” Fawn wouldn’t be able to help for a while. I hung up and relayed my dilemma to the young woman.
“You’re Fawn’s mother ” she asked, sounding a bit apologetic for listening in on my conversation. “Yes, I am.”
Her face lit up. “I’m Carmen. Fawn and I often work out in the same gym. She’s a wonderful person. You must be an awesome mom.”
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Carmen pulled out a set of keys, and held them toward me.

A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Unclear. D. Doubtful.

【答案】One possible version:
Carmen pulled out a set of keys, and held them toward me. “Here, take my car. It’s the brand new Corolla parked outside facing the street. I just got it yesterday. I was stunned. “Are you sure about lending me your new car ” “Yes. Please, take it.” As my fingers wrapped around the keys, a hint of worry shadowed her pretty face. Clearly, letting go was a sacrifice. I was a stranger, and her car was new. She’d worked hard for it. But because of the connection we shared through my daughter, she was willing to take a chance.
Fifteen minutes later I returned with Carmen’s new car, my spare keys, and my daughter. “Thank you for helping my mom.” Fawn said, standing before Carmen, her eyes brimming with tears. “Oh, it was nothing.” Warmth flooded my heart as I watched the girls shared a hug. To me, the gesture wasn’t “nothing.” It was a huge “something.” I had merited a favor based on my daughter’s reputation, and I was grateful to Carmen for lending me her car. But more than that, Carmen probably didn’t realize that she’d given me a gift — the most precious words a mother could ever hear: “You must be an awesome mom.”
