It was a hot day in early September. “Write about summer vacation,” Mrs. Brown gave the class a writing homework. She was a strict, older woman. “Be as creative as you can. But,” Mrs. Brown added, as she always did, “Make sure you use proper spelling and grammar.”
Jim didn’t want to write a stupid article about his summer vacation. So he gave up on the homework and wrote what he wanted to. Not an article at all but a short story. Science fiction. It was about a distant planet that didn’t have summer—it was spring all the time. And it didn’t have vacations, either. The aliens on the planet worked 24 hours a day.
The next morning, he handed in the story but soon he felt regretful. He even couldn’t sleep well. In English class, he saw the way Mrs. Brown looked at him with a strange look in her strict eyes for long. “I’m in trouble,” Jim thought, staring at the floor.
Mrs. Brown said, “Almost everyone in class wrote an article about his or her summer vacation... Almost everyone.”
“This is bad,” Jim thought. “I’m getting an F, I know it.”
“But,” the teacher continued, “One student decided he didn’t feel like doing that.”
“This is worse than an F... I’m in a note-to-the-parents situation now.” Jim couldn’t help thinking.
“All of your articles read as if they were written in your sleep. Just one of you had the courage to be as imaginative as I asked you to be. Jim Martin is the only one who got an A on the assignment. Now I’m going to ask him to come up here and read his story to you as an example of thinking independently and being creative.” Then, being Mrs. Brown, she added strictly, “though he should have a little more attention to proper spelling and grammar.”
Jim walked to the front of the classroom, as if he were climbing to the top of Mount Everest or were the first person to step onto the surface of Mars.
What a small thing really, he now reflected as he walked through the crowded hallway, just a single assignment. But what a difference that moment had made to him.

On January 20, 2025, DeepSeek launched its R1 LLM, which quickly became popular, even surpassing Open AI’s Chat GPT in the Apple App Store. This large number of users created a big buzz in the tech world and even affected the stock prices of many AI companies.
One of the best features of DeepSeek is that it is open-source, which means it is free to use, and anyone can change its code. This makes it much cheaper—20 to 50 times less expensive—than Open AI’s GPT-3 model. Unlike other AIs that need many examples to learn, R1 can improve on its own. In a global math test, DeepSeek R1 scored 79.8%, which is slightly better than Open AI’s model. This is another advantage of Deep Seek.
DeepSeek is easy to use, even on basic computers. A simpler version of R1 can run on low-cost computers, making it helpful for schools and small businesses. Many schools in China now use DeepSeek to create quizzes and study materials. For students, DeepSeek is like a 24/7 study partner! Its AI models can solve math problems step-by-step, explain tricky science concepts, and check grammar mistakes in English essays. Imagine asking, “How do I calculate the area of a triangle ” and getting the answer at once with clear examples.
While it can be helpful, students might start to rely too much on it for answers, which could make it harder for them to think critically and solve problems on their own. This raises concerns about whether AI can help students truly understand and arouse their interests in learning.
At a recent forum on March 22nd, a professor shared a poem written by DeepSeek. He said, “The poem is well written. Technology can copy style and tone. But...you know, as the Chinese saying goes, it is easy to draw a dragon, but rather difficult to put in the life-giving eyes.”
In conclusion, as technology like DeepSeek benefits students a lot, it also presents challenges for teachers. Educators need to help students balance its use with regular study methods. Guide them to think carefully about the information that AI tools provide.
33.What is Paragraph 2 mainly about
A.How DeepSeek R1 performs in math test. B.Why DeepSeek R1 is cheaper than GPT-3.
C.Why DeepSeek R1 is better than other AIs. D.How DeepSeek R1 improves its performance.
34.Which best summarizes the role of DeepSeek for students
A.A professional math teacher. B.An all-day study partner.
C.An English grammar helper. D.A science concepts assistant.
35.What can we infer about the poem mentioned in Paragraph 5
A.It was short of real feelings or depth. B.It was better than other famous poems.
C.It was praised by everyone for its creativity. D.It showed that AI can write as well as humans.
36.What is the writer’s opinion towards the use of AI in education
A.AI is much better than teachers. B.AI brings both benefits and challenges.
C.AI benefits students more than teachers. D.AI can solve all the problems for teachers and students.

Today, in my fridge, there are a few grapes, some bananas and some juice. There is also a pizza, and some burgers. I know what this food does to my body, but what does it do to the world around me It’s time to look at my carbon footprint and think about the good, the bad and the really ugly.
My first stop is the label. Labels give us lots of information: how long we can keep our food, how healthy it is and where it comes from. A few hundred years ago, most of our food came from local places, but today, food travels thousands of miles. We refrigerate it, and then transport it in planes and ships all over the world. I look at the pizza and feel bad at once—not because it’s unhealthy, but because the seafood on it comes all the way from Thailand. I take out a banana—it’s from Brazil, but that’s not too bad. It came here by boat, so the carbon footprint is small.
The next stop is the packaging. Unlike bananas, food like grapes needs protection with package. However, in the UK, we don’t recycle all our packaging. We throw away the plastic containers holding fruits like grapes. More than 30% of packaging waste ends up in landfills instead of being sent to recycling centers.
Then I look at the grapes in my fridge—they’re in a plastic box and they’re from Spain. But at least they grew in natural sunlight. In the UK, people grow grapes in greenhouses, which means our grapes use more energy. But there is one other thing in my fridge, and if pizza and grapes are “bad”, then this food is “really ugly”— the burgers. They have the biggest carbon footprint because they come from cows. In the USA, cows create the same amount of greenhouse gases as 20 million cars!
As I close the fridge door, I make a new checklist for my next trip to the supermarket. Maybe I could grow my own vegetables too.
37.What does “carbon footprint” mean in the passage
A.The cost of buying foreign food.
B.The possible health risks of daily food.
C.The distance food travels from places to places.
D.The effect of food choices on the environment.
38.What does the writer learn about the food in his fridge
A.The pizza is bad because of its unhealthy seafood.
B.The bananas are good as they grow in Brazil.
C.The grapes are bad because they need to be packed.
D.The burgers are ugly as they need more energy.
39.What question is most likely on the writer’s new supermarket checklist
A.“Are these apples grown locally ”
B.“Does this fish have enough packaging ”
C.“Is this apple pie cheaper than the frozen one ”
D.“Will these pieces of beef stay fresh for three days ”
40.What is the purpose of writing the passage
A.To help people choose healthy foreign food.
B.To explain how different kinds of food are produced.
C.To teach people to count the carbon footprint of the food.
D.To call on people to be eco-friendly when buying food.

阅读短文及文后A~E选项,选出可以填入各题空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。
In a recent report, scientists pointed out a killer that is more terrible than smoking—an unhealthy diet. 41 After studying the causes, the scientists say that the unhealthy diet leads to more than 11 million preventable (可预防的) deaths every year.
42 But the main part of the problem is what people are not eating, such as seeds, nuts, fruit and vegetables. The scientists study what people eat in 195 countries and how it influences their health. Israel is the healthiest country. India is one of the countries that are close to the unhealthy end.
So, why aren’t people eating enough of the right things For about 1 billion people, the answer is that they are not eating enough of anything. 43 But for about 2 billion other people, the problem is the opposite—they become unhealthy with high intake of sugar, salt and meat.
The scientists point out that it doesn’t seem to help much to tell people what not to eat. 44
But if everyone in the world suddenly begins eating seeds, nuts, and so on, they will soon run out. This could also be a problem. So the scientists say governments can’t just encourage people to eat healthily. 45
A.So, they encourage people to pay attention to what they should eat.
B.Part of the problem is what people are eating, like meat, salt and sugar.
C.Many people, especially in some developing countries, are going hungry.
D.They should encourage farmers to grow more kinds of foods that people need.
