Passage1
(23-24八年级下·山东威海·期末)阅读下面的短文,回答问题。
For only 20 yuan, Fang Wenjing could buy her lunch at a community canteen (社区食堂) in Hangzhou. She had a meat dish, a vegetable dish and a bowl of rice—all very healthy. “The dishes have a home-cooked taste.” said Fang.
Community canteens have become more and more popular in China recently. They were made for the old people at first. It can be difficult for some old people to cook on their own, so the canteens offer help. They can have lunch and dinner within a 10-minute walk, or community workers can bring the dishes to them. Zhang Suxia, a worker at a community canteen in Hangzhou, said that the cooks made special meals for the old. The food is soft and has less oil.
Now, the community canteens are bringing in more young people. For those who don’t want to order takeout meals or eat at restaurants, they can have healthier and cheaper dishes in the canteens.
This also encourages community canteens to think of creative ways to serve food and make things easier for people. A canteen in Beijing’s Lugu Community brings out buffet-style (自助模式) dishes. The dishes are sold at 2.48 yuan per 100 grams. The price is lower than those of restaurants close by.
There wouldn’t be so many community canteens without the work of local governments. They give subsidies (补贴) for building the canteens as well as the dining cost of the old people. There are now more than 6,700 community canteens in China, according to Tianyancha.

When I was ten years old, Mother found a dog by the roadside that had been hit by a car. She immediately took him to a vet as one of his back legs was badly hurt. His leg took some time to get better. Since Mother could not find the dog’s owner, we kept him and named him Chip. Chip and Mother were always together. He was Mother’s shadow and followed her everywhere. Whenever she left the house, he would whine sadly.
One day, on our way to my grandparents’ house for dinner. Mother stopped at a minimart. “Mary, let’s buy some fruits for Grandma and Grandpa and a snack for Chip.” Mother told me as she got out of the car. I went along to take the chance to buy an ice cream for myself. Soon, we were on the road again.
Half an hour passed when mother asked suddenly, “Where is Chip ” Chip was a quiet dog, so nobody realized that he was not in the backseat. None of us remembered seeing him out of the car at the minimart.
It was dark by then and raining very heavily. Worried sick, Mother decided to drive back to the minimart. When she stopped in front of the store, she was shocked. There sat Chip, soaking wet, with water dripping off his long ears. Mother rushed out of the car and quickly flew towards our pet.
“________!” the minimart owner exclaimed when she saw us hugging and patting chip. “He must have been waiting for you to return and has not moved from this spot even though it was raining.”

(23-24八年级下·山东烟台·期末)阅读下面的短文,完成短文后的问题。
On August 1, 2023, new rules went into effect in the United States that make it against the law to sell incandescent light bulbs (白炽灯泡). These are older-style light bulbs that create light by heating a wire (金属丝). The law is expected to save energy and help the environment.
Since 2005, countries around the world have been either banning (禁止) incandescent bulbs, or working in other ways to encourage people to use newer styles of bulbs that use far less power.
Though the rules just took effect at the beginning of August, they were first created in 2007. Since then, the rules have been delayed many times, usually for political (政治的) reasons.
In recent years, people have been switching over (转变) to LED bulbs, even without the rules. The lights have become more and more popular, since they use less energy and save people money by lasting longer. The US Department of Energy says switching over to LED bulbs will save Americans about $3 billion every year.
The new rules will also help the environment. Over the next 30 years, LED bulbs are expected to help prevent a huge amount of pollution in the US — about as much as would be used by 28 million homes in one year. That will be an important step in tackling the climate crisis.
Many other countries around the world have already ended or nearly ended the use of incandescent light bulbs. Several countries took this action 10 or more years ago.

“Students show great interest in playing cuju, which encourages me to promote (推广) the ancient sport,” Li told China Daily.

My name is Lucy. Art has always been my favorite subject, as it allows me to do my favorite hobby. I still remember when I was young, I would always paint on books, pieces of paper, and walls.
But now in school, there are only four art lessons each week, which is far from enough for me. I notice that the 40 minutes for each lesson seem to pass by in a flash (闪现) because I get completely lost in my artwork. It is as if drawing takes me to another world, where time stands still and creativity (创造力) never stops.
I love drawing so much that whenever I have time between classes, I find myself drawing something. I have spent so much time improving my skills that even my classmates are often amazed by my talent (天赋).
I especially enjoy drawing cartoons. This is the area where my creativity is always free. Letting my creativity run wild, I sometimes draw things that surprise even myself. I have cartoons of all the teachers I know. While some are pretty, others should not be shown to the teachers because they will be sad. They are only for my classmates and me to see.
So, I must say that I always feel good when I am drawing something. For me, drawing is a natural way to express myself. It simply allows me to follow my instincts (直觉) and lets my feelings guide my hand. And the result is always a happy one, leaving me with a sense of achievement that no other subject can match.

Why do we need hobbies For a large number of teenagers, doing something we love for an hour or two is a great way to relax. On the other hand, learning something new or improving a skill gives us a feeling of success. Hobbies fill our time, and let us forget our worries and become confident.
What’s my hobby It’s model rockets! I have already had ten rockets. And I created one of them myself. It’s made of wood and cardboard. I carefully glued different parts together, and then painted it. After that I launched (发射) it! In fact, I began to launch rockets two years ago.
Being in a class or a team gives us a chance to meet other people. So I join a rocket club in my city. We meet twice a month. Sometimes, we have exciting competitions in the club-everyone launches their rockets and the highest rocket wins. We also give prizes for the best-built rockets.
Some of my rockets might be lost or broken when I launch them. I lost one two weeks ago because it went too high: 499 metres. I launched it in a field, but it landed in some trees. My dad and I looked for it for three days. I don’t like losing a rocket. I always keep my broken rockets though they are not in good condition. I have already had a collection of them in my bedroom.
I’ve learnt a lot from my hobby, and it provides me with something to be proud of. It is really a lot of fun to build and launch rockets.

Passage14
(23-24八年级下·山东日照·期末)阅读短文,根据短文内容回答文后各小题。
Going camping is the best fun in the world if we know how to do it. Every healthy boy and girl, if possible, should enjoy living outdoors for a week or two every year.
A group of four members makes a good number for a camping trip. They will probably agree better than two or three. They can do much of the camp work in pairs. No one needs to be left alone to look after the camp while the others go fishing or hunting or to some nearby towns for food and drinks.
It is always better to go camping with someone who has “camped out” before. If he cannot be found, then make your plans, decide what you will do and how you will do it, and take a few cooking lessons from your mother or someone else.
First, choose a leader, not because he is more important than the rest but because if someone goes ahead and gives directions, the life in camp will run much more easily and everyone will have a better time.
If it is your first experience in camping, you had better go somewhere near home. The best place is one that can be reached by car. If you have to carry your supplies (补给品) on your back or in a canoe (独木舟), the amount (数量) you can take will be much less.
After you have had some experience near home, you can safely try the other way. Where you go is of little importance. Near every large city there are some lakes or rivers where you can find a good camping site. Campers always have more fun if they are near some water, but if such a place is not easily found where you live, go into the forest. Try to get away from towns or villages. The wilder the place is, the better.
65.What does the writer think is the best fun in the world
66.How many members make a good number for a camping trip
67.Who can you learn cooking from before you go camping
68.What does a leader usually do for the life in camp
69.Where should you go after you have had some experience near home (至少列举2条)

But I think friends are like books—you don’t need a lot of them as long as they’re good. Wang Li, 15, Zhejiang Province
It’s not necessary to be the same. My best friend Liu Jia is quite different from me. He is taller and more outgoing than me. We both like sports, but he plays tennis better, so he always wins. However, Liu Jia often helps to bring out the best in me. So I’m getting better at tennis. Yang Fan, 14, Shandong Province
I don’t really care if my friends are the same as me or different. My favourite saying is, “A true friend reaches for your hand and touches your heart.” My best friend Wu Gang is really kind and very funny. In fact, he’s funnier than anyone I know. I broke my arm last year but he tried to make me laugh and feel better. We can talk about and share everything. I know he cares about me because he’s always there to listen.

After the first week, Meghan decided to test herself further (进一步). “I wanted to see how long I could go without TV,” said Meghan. “Could I do it for a year ” The answer was yes!

Holidays are a wonderful time to spend with friends and family, eating and sharing stories.
Whether you are staying at home, waiting at airports or spending time on trains, buses or cars, these situations can give you great chances to learn English. Here are some ideas that you can use to improve your English over the holidays.
Podcasts(播客)
Listening to the English podcast for 30 minutes every day will help develop your ability to understand spoken English and keep you informed of news and information.
Once you have finished a program, tell someone what you have learned—tell them about an interesting story in English or your native language. Either way, you are practicing your understanding of what you heard in English.
Published materials
Airports and train stations often have stores selling published materials. Buy an English-language magazine to read it while you are waiting or spending quiet time at a hotel or in a home.
Look at the pictures and read the lines below them. Even if you do not understand all the words, you can use the pictures to help you understand some of them. Later, you can use an online dictionary to look up the words you want to learn.
Conversation
While traveling, it is not unusual to see people from other countries who are also waiting or exploring a new place. If you hear someone asking for information in English, you might offer to help or simply greet them in English to talk. A friendly conversation is usually welcome as travelers share their experiences.
Writing about your day
Writing about your day in English is a great way in practice your English writing skill. Draw images of what you see or do in your travels and look up the English words for the places or events later if you cannot think of them at the time.
Using English to describe how you spent your holiday will help you to put new words to use and make them stay in your memory longer. And you will have a wonderful record of your travel after the holiday is over.

As Chinese users get used to their nightly surfing on Xiaohongshu, they are seeing a sudden coming of a lot of posts in English. Many users from the US, calling themselves “TikTok refugees” have joined this Chinese app. “Refugees” are usually used to describe people looking for new homes. Why are these American internet users giving themselves a new name
“Hello everyone. I’m Ryan, a TikTok refugee. The American government is banning (禁止) TikTok, so we’re looking for another choice…We’re sorry to break in here.” one of the vloggers said in a video.
There is a growing belief in the US that the government will stick to banning TikTok because of the “China danger” in information safety. This leaves its 170 million users frustrated. The ban is set to begin on Sunday, unless TikTok is sold by its parent company, ByteDance.
As US users tag themselves with the hashtag (标签) #tiktokrefugees#, they are moving to the Chinese app. By Tuesday, there were over 114,000 posts with the hashtag, and more than 2 million discussions and 73 million views by 6 p. m. Beijing time. Xiaohongshu became the most downloaded app on the US app store on Tuesday.
Chinese users have shown kindness to the newcomers, offering to help them learn Chinese. However, not all cultural exchanges have gone well. A user from Beijing, Yuzijiang, received criticism from US users for “supporting stereotypes (刻板印象)” after posting a video of herself dancing with her curly hair. Many Chinese users are worried that US ideas and harmful cultures like gambling (赌博) and drug use could spread in the Chinese online community.
An expert from Fudan University says: “The sudden rise of TikTok refugees may not ________. Since American ideas are greatly different from those in China, US culture will likely have little lasting influence on Xiaohongshu’s community.”

Passage20
(24-25八年级下·江苏苏州)The stories in The Ice Cream Machine have the same title, but they each have a different plot (情节) about the ice cream. One story is about a boy and his robot in the future. Another is about a father and a daughter who create an ice cream machine. My favourite story in the book is about two sisters, Pam and Penelope, who try to enter an ice-cream-eating competition. As well as the stories above, there are three more stories in the book.
Its writer, Adam Rubin, has much experience when it comes to writing about food. His most famous children’s book is Dragons Love Tacos. “I like to write about food because it’s loved by people of all different cultures,” Rubin says.
Rubin hopes The Ice Cream Machine inspires kids to write. Its jacket (书套) turns into an envelope in which readers can send him their stories. Rubin says writers should write about things they like. “If you’ re trying to write to please someone else, you might not get it right. Then no one is happy,” he says.
I recommend The Ice Cream Machine to anyone who likes creative and funny story-telling. The book goes down just like ice cream: smooth, enjoyable and with a pleasant aftertaste.
94.How many stories are there in all in the book
95.Why does Rubin write about food
