In today’s world, the turn towards renewable energy sources is not just an environmental requirement but also a necessity for technological innovation and sustainable development. You are welcome to learn about renewable energy sources in the Museum of Science.
Renewable energy sources Brief introduction
Geothermal energy Geothermal energy comes from the heat stored beneath the earth’s surface. This energy is used to generate electricity or to heat buildings. Geothermal plants are typically located in regions with volcanic activity, where the earth’s heat is more accessible.
Wind power Wind energy is generated by turning the energy from wind into mechanical power, which can then be used for electricity. Large wind farms are often located in coastal areas or open plains where the wind is lasting and strong. Wind power is one of the fastest-growing energy sources.
Solar energy Solar energy is harvested through solar panels (板) that turn sunlight directly into electricity. This form of energy is advantageous in sunny regions and significantly reduce consumers’ electricity bills. Technological advance has increased the efficiency of solar panels, making solar energy more accessible than ever before.
Hydropower Hydropower uses the flow of water from rivers or man-made facilities like dams to generate energy. It is the most established form of renewable energy and accounts for a significant part of the world’s total electricity, especially in countries with rich water resources.
21. What’s the feature of geothermal energy
A. It’s the most important energy. B. It’s stored inside the earth.
C. It’s a kind of mechanical power. D. It’s common on the earth’s surface.
22. What do the renewable energy sources have in common
A. They’re somehow restricted by the regions.
B. They’re apparently hard to make use of.
C. They’re accessible all the year round.
D. They’re in urgent demand worldwide.
23. Who is this text probably written for
A. The general public. B. Power engineers.
C. Electricity workers. D. Energy scientists

My mother always told me, “You should explore your own country before stepping out into the world.”However, it seems like a tough mission to travel all across its expansive surfaces. But luckily for me, Via Rail Canada offered youths between the ages of 18 and 25 the chance to ride the train across Canada for the month of July. The ticket was a bargain $150. My best friends Trevor, Joel and Jeremy and I immediately jumped at the opportunity and secured four tickets on the great Canadian railroad.
For a group of 20-year-olds, this was like the first flight of young birds from the nest. When we approached the train station in the morning, our 22-day adventure from Sudbury to Vancouver was to begin. Eyes baggy from lack of sleep, we jumped on board as if it was the train to Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Although the thought of three full days on those tracks covering close to 3, 000 kilometres crushed our spirits a little, what happened next caught us by surprise.
The three days on board turned into a summer camp on rails. At night, we would climb up the glass- domed train car, which gave us a scenic view of the starry night sky, untouched by the harmful light pollution. Before we knew it, the warm sun rays beating down on our faces woke us up for another day on the rails. To my surprise, a sea of golden grain fields dominated the landscape we were in the Canadian Prairies.
Another day slipped away and we set up for another night in the dome (圆顶状物). And this time we were greeted by night sky painted by a fantastic thunderstorm. Lightning was striking at an incredible rate. The spectacular and memorable light show left everyone in the glass bubble in complete disbelief.
Arriving in the Rocky Mountains was one of the most surreal experiences of my life. Before the train adventure, if I could have skipped the travel and arrived at the destination, I would have. That is no longer true. I’ve learned that the journey can be more enjoyable than the destination.
24. What has made the author’s train adventure across Canada a reality

A previously unknown piece of music composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was recently uncovered at a library in Germany, researchers with the Leipzig Municipal Library said in a statement.
The newly discovered Serenade in C is a work made up of seven tiny pieces for a string trio (三重奏) and lasting around 12 minutes. It was uncovered in the collection of the Leipzig Municipal Library while researchers were working on a new edition of the K chel Catalogue (目录) of Mozart's works. Every couple of decades, researchers will include new works. revisions, and other changes that Mozart scholars discover over the years.
The new work appears to have been written early in Mozart's life. The work's date of 1780 would position it in the productive composer's mid-20s, but stylistically, the work shares characteristics with Mozart's pieces from his pre-teenage years. The signature of “Wolfgang Mozart” instead of “Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart” is another clue; Mozart didn't start signing works with his middle name until he was 13 years old.
In his early years, Mozart wrote many chamber works like Serenade in C. which is classical music written for a small number of instruments. Mozart's father recorded these works on a list of his son's compositions. Most of these works were thought to have been lost to history. What makes this find especially important is that it gives new insights into Mozart's early experiments with chamber music. Until now, the young composer has been chiefly recognized for his keyboard works, arias (咏叹调) and symphonies. This new piece showcases his early genius beyond those more familiar works.
Serenade in C was given its first recorded performance at the launch of the new K chel Catalogue in Salzburg, September 19th, 2024. It was also played for a packed audience at the Leipzig Opera on September 21st. Three musicians played the piece again outside the opera house, where eager crowds were waiting.
28. Why did researchers complete the new edition of the K chel Catalogue
A. To update the K chel Catalogue.
B. To seek for Mozart's new works.
C. To expand the library's collection
D. To promote Mozart's achievements.
29. What can be concluded about the new work from Mozart
A. It is unique to him in style. B. It was produced in his 20s.
C. It was signed in his full name. D. It was written in his early teens.
30. What does the author intend to tell us in paragraph 4
A. The significance of the new discovery.
B. Mozart's preference for chamber music.
C. Mozart's close cooperation with his father.
D. The reasons for Mozart not being fully recognized.
31. What was the audience's reaction to the performance of the new masterpiece
A. Relieved. B. Confused.
C. Enthusiastic. D. Indifferent.

Heidi Tait, co-founder of Tangaroa Blue, an organization committed to beach cleaning, was puzzled when she and her teammates started finding strange tire-shaped capsules washed ashore along the Cape York coast, near Australia’s northeastern tip. But Tait eventually connected with Satlink — a Spanish satellite communications company. Satlink’s GPS-enabled buoys (浮标) , the ones the beach cleaners kept finding, help commercial fishers track their nets, lines etc. Tait had a brainwave that would see the buoys not just recycled but reused.
For more than a decade, boat crews working farther west, in Australia’s Gulf of Carpentaria, had been telling Tait about how abandoned fishing nets were circling the gulf, hurting sea creatures. These so-called ghost ( 幽灵) nets had either broken free from commercial fishing boats and gotten lost, or were cut loose by fishers after getting caught on rocks. Weighing a few tonnes each, the nets that boat crews had chanced upon in the gulf were often too big for them to pull out of the water. They’d typically report the finds to the authorities, but by the time anyone with an appropriately equipped boat could head out to get one, the mass of messy rope had often gone from sight.
However, once one of the GPS-enabled buoys is attached, it sends its location every few hours to a website, which lets Tangaroa Blue monitor the nets’ movements’ and warns the organization of danger. So far, the reused GPS trackers have helped Tangaroa Blue recover three ghost nets from Australian waters.
Tangaroa Blue’s idea to track ghost nets isn’t entirely new; researchers with the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO), Australia’s national science agency, suggested it a decade ago. Taking the idea on board, the authorities tried using battery-powered trackers to monitor a few ghost nets. Tangaroa Blue’s approach differs in that its recycled buoys are solar powered and require less upkeep.
32. What were the tire-shaped capsules originally used for
A. Removing beach waste. B. Recycling vehicle tires.
C. Locating fishing equipment. D. Strengthening satellite signals.
33. What does the author intend to do in paragraph 2
A. Illustrate a future possibility. B. Describe a technical process.
C. Present a practical solution. D. Frame a problem context.
34. How do Tangaroa Blue’s buoys outperform earlier trackers
A. They need less maintenance.
B. They monitor broader regions.
C. They receive government funding.
D. They provide precise tracking data.
35. What is the best title for the text
A. Turning Waste into Treasure: A Fix to Ghost Nets
B. Fighting Threats: The Hidden Harm of Ghost Nets
C. Financing Change: Innovative Ocean Cleanup Plans
D. Protecting Seas from Waste: An Activist of Conservation

Are you frequently depressed by the feeling that life is leaving you behind particularly when you look over social media sites and are faced with all the exciting things your friends are up to 36
FOMO, or Fear of Missing Out refers to the perception that other people’s lives are superior to our own.It appears as a deep sense of envy, and constant exposure to it can have a weakening effect on our self- esteem(自尊).
While feelings of envy and lack of confidence seem to be human nature, social media seems to have added fuel to the fire. 37 Social media, with its built-in appeal, allows us to share only the best presentations ofour life, while leaving out the more boring aspects. Although this could be characterized as dishonest, it is the atmosphere social media seems to demand. So how do we avoid being trapped into our own insecurities by social media
Consider your own social media posts. 38 Well, so have others. And what they’ve left hidden is the fact that boredom, loneliness and unpleasant chores are an unavoidable part of everyone’s life, and you’re not the only one feeling left out.
39 You may not be a regular at fancy parties or a climber of dizzying peaks, but you have your health, a place to live and real friends who appreciate your presence in their lives.
Learn to shake it off. We are all flooded daily with photos of other people’s perfections, but really, what does it matter 40 And even if you are more easily affected than others by social media envy, all you need to do is to look around you and acknowledge that you are doing pretty well after all.
A. If so, you are not alone.
B. Value your friends in real life.
C. Learn to appreciate the positives.
D. Why does it have such a stimulating effect
E. They are probably no more real than the funniest reality TV show.
F. The feeling that we are left out has long-term damaging psychological consequences.
G. Have you ever chosen photos that lead others to the rosiest conclusions about your life

Anna not only 44 the new hearing aid worked as it should, but also offered to go to my grandparents’ apartment to show them how to use it.
Such 45 might sound rare, but I’ve since started wondering: What if it’s
more common than we think
It started with some research that showed people often underestimate (低估) the 46 of strangers to engage with, or even befriend them. Then I came across a study that 47 news coverage of current affairs tends to be negative because humans tend to give negative events more attention . 48 stories can attract our attention and prepare us for disappointment. But if we don’t engage with positive ones, they might lead us to be more critical of the world, more defensive and less 49 than we need to be.
So I think sometimes what we hear, see, or even know might not be the whole picture.
The truth might be 50 from us, requiring us to notice and discover it. We could start by asking ourselves whether we are 51 more on negative or positive stories. Maybe even paying more attention to good news or 52 good news will help.
Anna’s attitude was remarkable. She 53 the call of duty and, upon leaving, 54 to accept anything but words as thanks.

Kenny and Edward had always been the closest of friends, enjoying an unbreakable bond that saw them through countless lunch breaks and weekend adventures. They laughed together, cried together, and shared every joy and sorrow. But a recent argument had left their friendship hanging by a thread, threatening to tear apart the strong ties they had built over the years.
It all began during their school’s Science Fair preparation. Kenny had poured his heart and soul into designing a solar-powered model car, spending weeks attentively planning and building it. Edward, his loyal partner, had promised to handle the research report, ensuring that they would present a comprehensive and well-rounded project. However, just a day before submission, Edward admitted that he hadn’t finished the report. His voice wavered as he said, “I’ve been busy with soccer practice,” avoiding Kenny’s disappointed gaze. Kenny’s face flushed with anger and frustration. “But you promised! This isn’t just
my project—it’s ours!” His voice trembled with disappointment and hurt, as he
realized that his best friend had let him down. Edward, seeing the pain in Kenny’s eyes, tried to apologize, but Kenny cut him off. “I’m done relying on you!” Grabbing his backpack, he hurried away, leaving Edward accompanied with some other stunned students in the classroom, staring at the half-written report.
Edward sat at his desk, staring at the incomplete report, feeling a mix of guilt and frustration. He wanted to explain that soccer was his escape from his parents’ constant arguing at home, a way to clear his mind and focus on something positive. But Kenny’s pride and complaints silenced him, leaving him to ponder on the consequences of his actions.
Hours passed, and Edward continued to sit at his desk, lost in thought. He knew that he had to make things right with Kenny, but he wasn’t sure how. Then, suddenly, Kenny marched into the classroom where Edward was still sitting, his face a mixture of anger and determination. Edward looked up, his heart pounding in his chest, as he prepared to face the consequences of his actions and hopefully, restore their friendship.

Paragraph 1
“You ruined everything!” Kenny hissed, banging his books on the table. Edward froze but stayed silent. Fueled by rage, Kenny bit his teeth. But before he continued the complaints, Edward stormed out of the classroom, slamming the door so hard that a bookshelf rattled. Students gasped, yet Kenny just uttered no word, his fingers knotting the edge of her sweater. Edward’s abrupt departure haunted him. Had he been too harsh After all, this was not the deadline. There was still time to fix things—if he swallowed his pride. Instantly, Kenny went out, expecting he could find his friend on the playground.
Paragraph 2
Sure enough, there on the playground, Kenny found Edward practicing soccer alone. “Hey,” he called awkwardly. Edward paused, eyes watery. “I... I know about your parents now,” Kenny stammered.
Edward’s shoulders sank as he nodded. “I wanted to tell you, but I was scared you’d think
I was making excuses.” Kenny shook his head. “I’m the one who should apologize.
Let’s finish the report together—right now.” Edward’s face lit up. “Really But I’ll
skip practice!” “No way,” Kenny laughed. “We’ll multitask— soccer breaks every hour!”
As they walked toward the classroom, Kenny realized forgiveness felt lighter than anger.
