二、阅读理解
Best Places to Visit in Europe for 2025
Amsterdam
Spend the day cycling through Amsterdam’s stylish streets before exploring noteworthy museums like the Van Gogh Museum. Plan a picnic in Vondel Park for lunch or choose a boat tour along the city’s many canals (运河) when it’s time to rest your feet. While you’re here, consider planning a day trip to one of Amsterdam’s nearby scenic places — Utrecht and Leiden are both worth visiting.
Prague
A vacation in Prague will leave you feeling as if you’ve stepped into a fairy tale. Take in the Gothic architecture and be sure to tour Prague Castle. Plus, Prague’s affordable food and drinks, accommodations and excellent public transportation make it a great place for travelers who wish to visit Europe on a budget.
Venice
Travelers will appreciate Venice’s attractive canals and historical architecture. Keep in mind, though, that this extremely popular destination sees massive crowds, especially during the warmer months. To control overtourism, Venice charges tourists a small fee to enter on select dates. Plus, gondola (凤尾船) rides and hotels are pricey, so you’ll want to budget accordingly.
London
Exploring the world-famous British Museum, seeing a musical in the West End theater district, watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace and stepping back in time at the Tower of London are all parts of the London experience. However, London’s high hotel prices can make travelers with tight budgets back off. To save money, book your accommodations far in advance.

C.To promote cultural events. D.To improve public transportation.
23.What do all four cities have in common

C.They experience extremely cold winters. D.They are known for iconic cultural landmarks.
Kieng Riven’s eighth birthday was fast coming up so his mother asked him what he wanted. She expected the youngster to answer with a list of toys and games. His answer took his mother by surprise and brought her to tears.
A child’s birthday is usually spent doing fun activities, eating cakes, and opening gifts surrounded (包围) by family and friends. Young Kieng had a different idea of how he wanted to spend his big day. Instead, he wanted to gift his community by handing out a dozen pizzas to homeless people living in a “tent city” in Charlotte, NC.
Antiqua, hoping to make good on her son’s birthday request, shopped around neighbourhood pizzas to see which of them could quickly fill a large order of 100 pizzas. She received only one reply to her request. To her shock, one charitable store manager of a local Papa John’s, named Gage Lock not only agreed to accept the order, he also provided a donation of 75 of the pizzas. Gage and his staff also delivered the pizza pies to the “tent city” in order to personally help give away them to the homeless population there.
“That made me want to do it so much more, knowing it was a 7-year-old kid, and all he wanted for his birthday was to give back to the community,” replied Gage describing his purpose to join in the unusual birthday pizza party. Another local pizzeria chipped in to help hand out the pizza safely while all wearing masks. The highly expected Chinese 2025 Spring Festival Gala took place on the evening of January 28th, attracting audiences with a perfect combination of cutting-edge technology and cultural heritage. Live broadcast technology and innovative (创新的) stage design also made the Year of the Snake celebration a success.
Among the evening’s fantastic performances was the amazing robot dance “Yangge BOT.” Sixteen humanoid robots, dressed in red floral jackets, performed perfectly alongside 16 human dancers. One of the most impressive moments came when the robots skillfully controlled handkerchiefs, a key element of Yangge dance. With AI-driven mechanical arm movements, they sent the handkerchiefs spinning (旋转) and flying through the air, creating a breathtaking performance, which symbolizes the perfect combination of tradition and innovation.
Yangge BOT, also called H1, is developed by Unitree, an energetic start-up company that focuses on the development, production and sales of high-performance robots. Standing about 180cm tall and weighing around 70kg, H1 is Unitree’s first humanoid robot, launched in August 2023. The robot performs smartly and is able to carry out complex movements, highlighting its high precision (精准) motion abilities. According to Wang Qixin, Head of Marketing at Unitree, all the dance movements were powered by AI, showing the robot’s ability to learn and adapt.
The “Yangge BOT” performance was more than fun; it was a glimpse into the future of AI in the performing arts. By combining AI with traditional dance, the gala showed us the limitless potential of technology to expand artistic possibilities. As AI continues to develop, its applications in the arts will offer audiences around the world innovative and unforgettable experiences. The Great Barrier Reef, located off the coast of Queensland, Australia, is one of the most extraordinary natural wonders on Earth. Stretching over 2,300 kilometers, it is not only the largest coral reef system in the world but is also visible from space. Home to thousands of species of marine life, including fish, turtles, sharks, and corals, the reef is a biodiversity hot spot and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The reef’s vibrant ecosystem is built by tiny organisms called coral polyps (珊瑚虫).These creatures secrete calcium carbonate (碳酸钙) to form hard skeletons, which over time create the complex structures we recognize as coral reefs. The reef’s health depends on a delicate balance of environmental conditions, including water temperature, salinity, and sunlight.
However, the Great Barrier Reef faces significant threats. Climate change is the most pressing issue, as rising ocean temperatures cause coral bleaching (褪色) — a phenomenon where corals expel the algae (海藻) that give them color and nutrients. Without these algae, corals turn white and become more susceptible to disease. Pollution from agricultural runoff and plastic waste further exacerbates the problem, while overfishing disrupts the reef’s ecological balance.
Efforts to protect the reef are underway. The Australian government has implemented (贯彻) stricter regulations on fishing and pollution, and scientists are exploring innovative solutions such as coral farming and genetic engineering to restore damaged areas. Public awareness campaigns also play a crucial role in encouraging sustainable practices among tourists and local communities.
Despite these efforts, the future of the Great Barrier Reef remains uncertain. Experts warn that without immediate and coordinated global action, the reef could lose much of its biodiversity within the next few decades. This would not only be a tragedy for marine life but also have devastating (毁灭性的) consequences for the millions of people who depend on the reef for their livelihoods.
32.Why is the Great Barrier Reef visible from space
A.Because of its large size. B.Because of its bright colors.
C.Because of the reflection of sunlight. D.Because of the unique structure of coral polyps.
33.How do coral polyps contribute to the reef’s structure
A.By producing colorful pigments.
B.By secreting calcium carbonate to build the reef framework.
C.By providing food for other marine organisms.
D.By creating strong currents around the reef.
34.According to the text, what mainly leads to coral bleaching
A.Overfishing activities.
B.Plastic waste existing in the ocean.
C.Pollution arising from agricultural runoff.
D.The increasing temperatures of the ocean as a result of climate change.
35.What’s a consequence if the Great Barrier Reef loses much of its biodiversity
A.The ocean temperature will decrease. B.It will have no impact on marine life.
C.It will be a tragedy for marine life. D.The coral polyps will reproduce faster.
How to Protect Your Privacy When You Travel
In an era where digital footprints are easily left behind, safeguarding your privacy while traveling is crucial. Here are several practical tips to ensure your personal information remains secure.
Be Cautious with Public Wi-Fi
Public Wi-Fi networks in airports, cafes, and hotels can be convenient, but they also pose significant privacy risks. 36 Hackers can easily intercept (拦截) your data on these unencrypted (未加密的) networks. Avoid logging into sensitive accounts such as online banking or email when connected to public Wi-Fi.
Protect Your Devices
Your smartphone, tablet, and laptop carry a wealth of personal information. 37 Use strong, unique passwords for each device and enable two-factor authentication (身份验证) whenever possible.
Mind Your Social Media Posts
While it’s tempting to share every exciting moment of your trip on social media, oversharing can put your privacy at risk. 38 Avoid posting real-time updates about your location, especially when you’re away from your accommodation. Wait until you’ve returned home to share those detailed vacation photos and stories.
Watch out for Physical Surveillance (物理监视)
In some places, there may be a risk of physical surveillance. 39 Be aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded areas or places with high-tech surveillance capabilities.
Use Secure Payment Methods
When making purchases while traveling, choose secure payment methods. Credit cards are generally a safer option than debit cards because they offer more fraud protection. 40 Look for signs of security when making online purchases, such as the padlock icon in the browser’s address bar, which indicates that the connection is secure.
A.It’s important to take steps to protect them.
B.They can steal your passwords and credit card details.
C.Don’t let your guard down just because you’re on vacation.
D.Only use trusted payment apps and make sure they are up-to-date.

M: Malls are popular places for Americans to go. Some people spend so much time at malls that they are called “mall rats”. Mall rats shop until they drop into the hundreds of stores under one roof. People like malls for many reasons. They feel safe because malls have police stations or private security guards. Parking is usually free, and the atmosphere inside is always fine. The newest malls have beautiful rest areas with waterfalls and large green trees. The largest mall in the United States is the Mall of America in Minnesota. It has 350 stores, eight night clubs, and a seven-acre park! There are parking spaces for 12,750 cars. About 750,000 people shop every week. The first indoor mall in the United States was built in 1965 in Edina, Minnesota. Now people shop in malls, of course. They also eat in food houses that have food from all over the world. They see movies here. Some people even get their daily exercise by doing the new sport of mall walking. Others go to malls to meet friends. In a word, now residents can actually live in their favorite shopping center.

66.Dear Grace,
I’m writing to sincerely apologize for losing the novel I borrowed from you last month.
I took the book with me when I went to the park last Sunday. After reading a few chapters, I put it aside while chatting with a friend. Unfortunately, I completely forgot about the book and left the park without it. When I realized it, I immediately rushed back to search, but it was gone. I understand how much that novel means to you, and I feel extremely guilty. To make up for my mistake, I will buy you a new copy.
Once again, I’m really sorry for my carelessness. I hope you can forgive me.
Yours,
Li Hua
67.参考范文
Suddenly, Edward saw a weak light in the distance (在远处). He felt a surge of hope and started running as fast as he could towards it. As he got closer, he found it was a small house. He knocked on the door, hoping someone would answer. After a few moments, the door opened, and an old lady appeared. He couldn’t wait to explain his bad situation and was quite eager to get her permission to come into her house.
The old lady welcomed him inside. She warmly gave Edward some food and water, and he felt grateful for her kindness. They sat by the fire and talked for a while. The kind lady told Edward that she lived alone in the forest and knew the area well. She offered to show him the way out in the morning. Edward spent the night at her house, feeling relieved and safe. The next day, she guided him out of the forest, and Edward was able to return to his village.
