On Dec.26, Gelinne was having a cup of coffee at home, gazing out at frozen Beards River. Suddenly, his daughter cried “Look!” Gelinne looked up just in time to see a small aircraft a few hundred yards away, coming down.
As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a former sailor, realized it would land in the river. Without hesitation, he ran down to the waterfront. The plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen river, far from shore, sinking. The pilot was standing on the wing. Gelinne knew from his previous training that even a few minutes in the icy water could kill the pilot.
Gelinne tested the ice with his foot and decided not to take any chances walking on it. So he and his son, John, pulled two kayaks (皮划艇) out. “If it can float on the water, it can slide on the ice,” Gelinne said.
The kayaks’ paddles (桨) proved too weak, so the pair tried using sticks to push the boats along. Their first attempts left them spinning in circles. But with effort, they made progress. When Gelinne reached the plane, the pilot was standing on a tail wing, surrounded by open water. Gelinne pushed his kayak off the ice and into the water, paddling toward the pilot and thinking, “What if he panics What if I fall over ”
With his son nearby, Gelinne focused on keeping the pilot calm, joking, “Just hang on to the kayak as if you were hugging your wife.” The pilot grabbed the kayak’s bow. Gelinne knew he had to get the pilot onto the shelf of unbroken ice. But each time Gelinne tried, the kayak broke through the ice. He needed help.
Soon a police officer arrived and radioed for help. A boat from the local Department of Natural Resources appeared. It picked up the pilot, Steve 71, and rushed him to safety, who would be treated for minor injuries. Later the boat returned to help Gelinne, exhausted, to shore.
The boat had arrived just in time, Gelinne recalled. “I’m 60 years old,” he says. “There was no way I could get him to shore.” Still, he was satisfied.
24. What was Gelinne’s first reaction to the air crash
A. Hesitant. B. Concerned. C. Scared. D. Surprised.
25. What can be learned from paragraph 4
A. The plane had sunk to the bottom. B. The pilot was nearly frozen to death.
C. The kayaks got stuck in floating ice. D. The rescue was tougher than expected.
26. Why did Gelinne need help
A. Because his son didn’t help him. B. Because the kayaks were broken.
C. Because the ice wasn’t solid enough. D. Because the pilot was too exhausted.
27. Which of the following can best describe Gelinne
A. Honest and independent. B. Modest and intelligent.
C. Helpful and humorous. D. Generous and cautious.

I know people who say they don’t watch television, and I always nod and agree. Reading requires intelligence, and television is merely entertainment, right
I’m going to Scotland this year, and three different people told me I must watch "Outlander" before I go, which is like "Game of Thrones" for fans of romance novels. I watched the first four-hour-long episodes back to back. When I stood up from the couch I felt sick, and it wasn’t just the cookies, popcorn and peanut butter sandwiches I’d had without noticing. It was dark outside, and I felt ashamed. I had spent half a day on the couch. Research for Scotland? Not exactly.
A few days later I had a library book due: The National Book Award winner The Friend, by Sigrid Nunez. I needed to finish it, so I read the last half straight through. I was absorbed in Nunez’s New York City, worrying about the heroin’s career and her future. I finished the book with tears in my eyes and stood up feeling, well, great.
I had wasted another four hours on my couch. I hadn’t eaten as much junk food because I needed my hands free—and not sticky—so I could turn pages and return the book to the library relatively clean, but I hadn’t moved and once again it was dark outside. Why did I feel so much better and guilt-free?
All the research says reading a book is good for you. It reduces stress, promotes comprehension and imagination, relieves depression, helps you sleep and may contribute to preventing Alzheimer’s(阿尔兹海默症). The act of physically turning a page creates a momentary pause for understanding to sink in. Our brains have to work to translate the black squiggles (弯弯曲曲的线条) on the page into words and then interpret the meaning and intent (意图) of those words. When a character is described as tall with brown hair, a reader creates her own picture. TV takes all that imagination away. But there’s a lot of good TV now. I’d like to say the answer to TV versus books must be, as Aristotle said, "Moderation in all things," though he never had a television or a computer and had to read his scrolls by candlelight. I agree that too much television is bad for you. I know I feel better if I read, but it won’t stop me from watching too: My second DVD of "Outlander" has just arrived, and as soon as I get this essay done, the rest of my day is free.
28. By "I always nod and agree" (paragraph 1), the author implies that ______ .
A. she doesn’t think highly of TV either
B. she believes those who say they don’t watch TV
C. she should be polite to get the conversation to go on
D. she is not willing to admit that she watches television
29. The phrase "back to back" (paragraph 2) is closest in meaning to " ______ ".
A. from morning till night B. one after another without a break
C. looking at the opposite direction D. leaning against the back of the couch
30. The author felt better after reading The Friend than watching "Outlander", most probably because ______ .
A. she didn’t feel hungry for any snacks
B. the TV series got her to cancel her trip to Scotland
C. the television series was no more attractive than the book
D. she regarded reading as more rewarding than watching TV
31. What can be concluded from all the research introduced in paragraph 5
A. Reading is active while watching TV is passive.
B. Reading involves physical exercises while watching TV doesn’t.
C. Reading stimulates the brain to concentrate while watching TV doesn’t.
D. Reading is good for one’s mental health while watching TV is bad for it.

The sequel (续编) to the block extraordinary Chinese animation film, Ne Zha, was released on Chinese New Year’s day, that is, Jan 29.
Like many other Chinese movies, Ne Zha 2 is also based on a Chinese mythological figure — protective deity (神) Ne Zha. The film’s script is based on a popular 17th century Chinese novel, the Investiture of the Gods, which is one of the first major literary works to feature “deities” and “demons” in Taoism and Buddhism.
How come films based on Chinese mythology have become massive hits at the box office Ne Zha 2 symbolizes rebellion. The image of Ne Zha has been modified from the traditional tragic hero “returning to his father” to a modern rebel who “changes his destiny against God’s will”, which is in line with the spiritual aspirations of today’s youths and their determination to fight against labeling and pursue their goals. This kind of modification breaks the character’s “sacredness” myth, enabling it to resonate with the audience.
The film is a fusion of cultural symbols. It combines punk style, modern colloquialism (俗话), names and other elements such as the “Sichuan-style Mandarin” accent of Master Taiyi who is the tutor of Ne Zha. This practice grafts traditional cultural symbols with popular culture, making the film appealing to the audience. At the same time, it fosters a unique cultural identity.
Ne Zha 2 is a great innovation in visual aesthetics (美感). The movie drives Gen Next Internet of things with 5G and smart technology, with fascinatingly innovative art direction, especially the misty landscape, which enhances the experience of going to the theater. That Ne Zha has been created with utmost care is evident from the fact that the character on the screen maintains its oriental aesthetic mood. Indeed, Ne Zha could become a new cultural brand of China.
The film also illustrates changing family ethics. By transforming Ne Zha’s parents, Mr and Mrs Li Jing, from traditional, strict parents to loving father and mother who “go against God’s will to protect their son”, the filmmaker reconstructs Chinese family relationships, echoing the younger generation’s pursuit of “family roots” and building a cross-generational emotional connection.
The film demonstrates the technological heroism of Chinese animators, reflecting Chinese film makers’ cultural confidence. Furthermore, the production team has increased the character count threefold from the prequel (前篇), an accomplishment that seems to have impressed audiences. The number of special effects shots in Ne Zha 2 alone surpasses the total number of shots in Ne Zha 1, giving audiences a visually spectacular experience. This reflects a commitment to create a more immersive and awe-inspiring cinematic journey.
32. What is the main theme of the movie “Ne Zha 2 Demon Child Conquers the Sea”
A. A courageous tragic hero returning to his father.
B. A contemporary rebel who does not submit to his given fate.
C. A story about a deity who follows traditional values.
D. A tale of a hero who adheres to societal norms.
33. What can we infer from paragraph 4
A. The film adopts classical Chinese literature exclusively.
B. Modern cultural references are neglected in the film.
C. Traditional mythological elements are solely focused on.
D. The film gives full play to different elements like present-day dialects.
34. What technological advancement is employed in “Ne Zha 2”
A. The use of 2D animation techniques.
B. The reliance on traditional hand-drawn animation.
C. The blend of 5G and smart technology.
D. The adoption of Chinese martial arts.
35. How does the film illustrate the concept of family relationships
A. By portraying Ne Zha’s parents as strict and traditional figures.
B. By ignoring the role of family in Ne Zha’s lifetime.
C. By representing Ne Zha’s parents as affectionate and protective characters.
D. By unfolding Ne Zha as an orphan with no family ties.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Throughout our lives, we usually look for just one answer to each question we encounter, like when we ask what 2+2 equals or what the capital of India is. 36 The “one-problem, one-answer” mindset is deeply rooted in how we think.
But what happens if we’re asked to generate different responses instead of one correct answer 37 I asked them, “What if there is more than one way to record the answer to 2+2 ” They voiced varied answers, such as of 8, how Lincoln began “The Gettysburg Address”, the number of runners on a relay team, and the number following 3, etc. These kids weren’t “boxed in” by the artificial “requirement” of finding a single right answer. Rather, they were asked a question beginning with the two words “What if… ” 38
What lies behind the issue then Ken Robinson has observed that our educational systems often don't help students develop their natural creativity. 39 Studies have shown that teachers claim to value qualities of independent thinking and curiosity, yet they reward behaviors of obedience. Thus, a workforce emerges that prioritizes conformity(顺从) over creativity. Simply stated, we tell students to color inside the lines and then expect adults to think outside the box.
40 Ask open-ended questions more often to encourage students to explore different ways of thinking. On top of this, a safe environment should be created where students feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes. By doing so, students are better equipped to face complex problems with greater flexibility and innovation in the future.
A. Avoiding risks is a natural tendency.
B. However, they have the potential to succeed.
C. To find out, I approached a group of fourth-graders.
D. Instead, they promote uniformity and standardization.
E. The results, as you can see, were diverse and inventive.
F. Seldom do we consider the possibility of multiple answers.
G. It’s time to break free from the “single right answer” mindset.

I met Mr. Chen on a sweltering(闷热的;酷热的) July afternoon while rushing to catch the last subway train to my piano competition. The moment I sprinted (冲进) into the station, the announcement blared that the train would depart in five minutes. Panicked, I collided(碰撞;相撞) with an elderly man carrying a large bamboo basket filled with lychees(荔枝). His basket toppled(使倒塌), spilling juicy fruits across the floor.
“I’m so sorry!” I gasped, kneeling to help collect the lychees. He waved his hand dismissively(轻蔑地). “No harm done, young lady. But hurry — don’t miss your train!” His kind eyes sparkled as he stuffed the last lychee into the basket. I thanked him heartfeltly and dashed towards the platform, only to realize my wallet was missing.
Frantically(拼命地;慌乱地), I patted my pockets. The wallet — containing my subway card and competition ticket — was gone. I spun around, scanning the floor where I’d collided with Mr. Chen. No sign of it. Despair washed over me. How could I explain this to my parents Just then, a gentle tap on my shoulder made me jump.
“Looking for this ” Mr. Chen held up my wallet, which had slipped into his basket during the collision. I nearly wept with relief. “Thank you, sir! You’re my hero!” I exclaimed(尖叫), grabbing the wallet. But as I reached for my subway card, my heart sank again — the card was cracked beyond use.
“Subway’s closed now,” Mr. Chen said, checking his watch. “Let me drive you. My truck’s parked nearby.” Before I could protest, he led me to an old pickup truck loaded with lychee crates(装货箱). The engine sputtered(噼啪响)to life, and we sped through the twilight streets.

Dear teachers and fellow students,
I’m Li Hua. Today, I want to talk about AI in our life.
AI has many applications. Take smart home systems for example, which can control lights and temperature automatically. Moreover, recommendation algorithms on shopping websites, which suggest products we might like, help us find what we need quickly. However, AI also brings problems. Sometimes, the information it offers is wrong. And there are concerns that it could cause job losses.
In my view, although AI has disadvantages, we should make the best use of it. If we use it wisely, AI will surely bring more benefits to our life.
Thank you!
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(读后续写(满分25分)
Paragraph 1:
But halfway there, the truck jerked to a halt. Mr. Chen got out and inspected the engine. “Oh dear, it seems there’s a major problem,” he muttered. I felt a pang of anxiety. “What are we going to do ” I asked. Mr. Chen thought for a moment and then said, “Don’t worry. I’ll call a tow truck, but it might take some time. You still have a chance to make it to your competition if you run.” I nodded and thanked him before dashing off.
Paragraph 1:
Two weeks later, I stood at the community center with a bouquet of sunflowers. I was looking for Mr. Chen to express my gratitude properly. Finally, I saw him. “Mr. Chen!” I called out and handed him the flowers. He was surprised and his face lit up. “Thank you, child. But it was just a small thing I did,” he said. I insisted, “It was a big deal for me. You helped me when I was in trouble.” We both smiled, and I knew I had made a new friend.

B 篇
24. 细节理解题。B。根据第二段“As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a former sailor, realized it would land in the river. Without hesitation, he ran down to the waterfront.(当飞机消失在树后时,曾经当过水手的杰琳意识到它将降落在河中。他毫不犹豫地跑到水边)”可知,他一看到飞机降落在河中,就毫不犹豫地跑到水边,所以推知是担心的。
错误原因:A 项“Hesitant”与“Without hesitation”矛盾;C 项“Scared”未在文中体现,Gelinne 表现得非常果断;D 项“Surprised”虽可能有惊讶成分,但文中重点突出强调其果断反应。
25. 细节理解题。D。根据第四段中的The kayaks paddles(桨) proved too weak, so the pair tried using sticks to push the boats along. Their first attempts left them spinning in circles. But with effort, they made progress. When Gelinne reached the plane, the pilot was standing on a tail wing, surrounded by open water.(皮划艇的桨太弱了,所以两人试着用棍子推动小船。
错误原因:A 项“The plane had sunk to the bottom”与文中“The plane had slid to a stop on the broad, frozen river”矛盾;B 项“The pilot was nearly frozen to death”文中未提及;C 项“The kayaks got stuck in floating ice”文中未提到皮划艇被卡。
26. 细节理解题。C。根据第五段“With his son nearby, Gelinne focused on keeping the pilot calm, joking, “Just hang on to the kayak as if you were hugging your wife.” The pilot grabbed the kayak’s bow. Gelinne knew he had to get the pilot onto the shelf of unbroken ice. But each time Gelinne tried, the kayak broke through the ice. He needed help.(儿子就在旁边,Gelinne专注于让飞行员保持冷静,他开玩笑说:“就像拥抱你的妻子一样,紧紧抓住皮艇。”领航员抓住皮艇的船头。Gelinne知道他必须把飞行员弄到没有破冰的架子上。但每次杰琳尝试,皮划艇都破冰而出。他需要帮助)”可知,因为冰不够坚固,导致皮划艇都破冰而出。他需要帮助。
错误原因:A 项“Because his son didn’t help him”与文中“with his son nearby”矛盾;B 项“Because the kayaks were broken”错误,文中提到“paddles proved too weak”,但皮划艇本身未坏;D 项“Because the pilot was too exhausted”文中未提及飞行员因疲劳无法配合。
27. 推理判断题。C。根据第二段“As the plane disappeared behind the trees, Gelinne, a former sailor, realized it would land in the river. Without hesitation, he ran down to the waterfront.(当飞机消失在树后时,曾经当过水手的杰琳意识到它将降落在河中。他毫不犹豫地跑到水边)”可知,他一看到飞机降落在河中,就毫不犹豫地跑到水边去救人,所以他是热于助人的,以及第五段“With his son nearby, Gelinne focused on keeping the pilot calm, joking, “Just hang on to the kayak as if you were hugging your wife.”(儿子就在旁边,Gelinne专注于让飞行员保持冷静,他开玩笑说:“就像拥抱你的妻子一样,紧紧抓住皮艇。”)”可推知Gelinne 是个幽默的人,所以Gelinne是乐于助人又幽默的。
错误原因:A 项“Honest and independent”文中未提及;B 项“Modest and intelligent”虽有聪明成分,但未体现谦逊;D 项“Generous and cautious”文中未提及慷慨,谨慎也不是其突出特点。
C篇28. A 29. B 30. D 31. A
