The Most Innovative Libraries Around the World
Some libraries use unique architecture to encourage visitors to explore the shelves and settle down with a new book, or use roving libraries to bring books to hard-to-reach populations. No matter how they achieve it, these novel libraries are keeping the magic of reading alive.
Beach Library (Albena, Bulgaria)
Reading a book on the beach is a classic, and in Bulgaria, one library encourages tourists to do just that. The white, weather-resistant shelves lined up not far from the surf feature 6,000 books in 15 languages so every visitor can find the perfect read to enjoy while bathed in the sunshine.
The Camel Library Service (North Eastern Province, Kenya)
To fight low literacy rates in the desert of Kenya, the government created a movable library composed of nine camels bringing books to villages. The library travels four days a week serving the region. Currently the service focuses on children, but with more funding they plan to increase their reach both in distance and the titles they carry.
Seikei University Library (Tokyo, Japan)
Libraries are usually known for their quiet atmosphere, but this one encourages conversation. The library was designed with space-age, free-standing sound proofed pods (吊舱) to respect those who need uninterrupted study, while also being beneficial to other methods of learning; they serve as perfect spots for study groups and lively discussions.
Macquarie University Library (Sydney, Australia)
A surprising combination of cutting-edge and sustainable, this building, featuring a green roof, was made from recycled and designed to imitate the look of a eucalyptus tree. It is also state of the art, using robots to bring requested books to the front desk.
1. Who is more likely to visit the Camel Library
A. Kids in the desert of Kenya. B. The government officials.
C. The local villagers in the region. D. Fundraisers of this service.
2. What makes Seikei University Library different from other libraries

As young children went back to school across Sweden last month, many of their teachers were putting a new emphasis on printed books, quiet reading time and handwriting practice and devoting less time to tablets, independent online research and keyboarding skills.
The return to more traditional ways of learning is a response to experts’ doubt on the country’s over-digitalized approach to education, which has even introduced tablets into kindergartens. They are worried that it has already led to a decline in basic skills.
The rapid adoption of digital learning tools has also drawn concern from a United Nations’ education agency. In a report published last month, the agency issued an urgent call for appropriate use of technology in education. The report urges countries to speed up Internet connections at schools, but at the same time warns that technology in education should be used in a way so that it never replaces in-person, teacher-led instruction and supports the shared objective of quality education for all.
However, online instruction is a hotly debated subject across Europe and other parts of the West. Germany has been famously slow in moving information of all kinds online, including education. Many students can complete their schooling without any kind of required digital instruction, such as coding. Most parents worry their children may not be able to compete in the job market with technologically better-trained young people from other countries. “If we don’t manage to make education digital, then we will no longer be a competitive country in 20 years,” said Sascha Lobo, one of the parents interviewed last year.
However, not all teachers are convinced that Sweden’s back-to-basics push is in the best interest for students. “Technology is just one part of a really complex network of factors in education,” said Catarina Branelius, a third grade teacher in the Swedish capital, Stockholm. “I use tablets in math, but I don’t use tablets for writing text. Students under age 10 need time and practice and exercise in handwriting… before you introduce them to write on a tablet.”
4. What did Sweden stress before this new school year
A. Printed books. B. Handwriting practice. C. Quiet reading time. D. Independent online research.
5. Which can best describe the approach suggested by the United Nations’ agency
A. Textbook-centered. B. Balanced. C. Over-digitalized. D. Traditional.
6. What can be known from paragraph 4
A. Students in Germany do not heavily rely on computers. B. The German government is pushing for online instruction.
C. German parents are happy with their children’s education. D. Teachers in Germany are ready to make education digital.
7. What is Catarina Branelius’s attitude to the new policy
A. Favorable. B. Unclear. C. Doubtful. D. Unconcerned.

“To get ahead in this world, don’t we need a little bit of perfectionism ” As someone who has researched perfectionism for over a decade, I’m asked this question a lot. And I used to think that was true. It’s hard to succeed nowadays. You’ve got to sacrifice yourself, keep pushing well beyond what’s comfortable, and live life on your tiptoes. That’s just the common things in a competitive society where there are only a few winners, I believed.
Yet, research finds that perfectionism has no relationship with performance. Perfectionistic people struggle really hard, but they’re no more likely to be successful. One reason is that perfectionistic people work hard but unsustainably so. They often find themselves in the sapping zone and opposite returns on their efforts.
Another is that many perfectionists are world champions at self-doubt. When things get tough, when it looks like failure is heading their way, the anticipated shame and embarrassment are so fierce that perfectionistic people are unwilling to put forth any further effort that might allow others to discover their shortcomings. So, they simply give up to avoid fears of failure, which makes failure more likely.
For perfectionists, dialing down goals and aiming for excellence instead doesn’t usually work. On the contrary, it’s important to learn to embrace the inevitability of setbacks, failures, and things not going quite as planned. It’s important to be able to sit comfortably with these humanizing experiences, to let them be, and not need to drive them out of existence.
So we shouldn’t struggle to be perfect because perfectionism doesn’t lead to success. Instead, do recognize that learning to embrace imperfections and setbacks helps us to accept ourselves and keep moving forward.
8. What is the author’s initial belief about perfectionism
A. It has no relationship with performance.
B. It leads to self-doubt and fear of failure.
C. It is unsustainable and leads to burnout.
D. It is necessary for success in tough society.
9. What does the underlined word “sapping” mean in paragraph 2
A. Falling. B. Reserving.
C. Exciting D. Refreshing.
10. Why do many perfectionists give up when faced with challenges
A. They are not willing to work hard.
B. They are afraid of shame from failure.
C. They are unwilling to accept any failure.
D. They are unable to dial down their goals.
11. What is the best title of the text
A Why You Should Embrace “Good Enough”
B. Why Kids Need “Intelligent Failure”
C. What Is A Better Way To Seek Guidance
D. What We Can benefit From Perfectionism
D
For years, we’ve been teaching a class on music and the mind. At the start of each semester, we’ve asked the students to complete a survey on their favorite songs and artists. Students’ favorite songs and artists get longer and more varied each year and their playlists barely overlap (重叠).
Indeed, listening to music is a deeply private and personal experience nowadays and even more so with the introduction of the iPod and smartphones. When teenagers listen to music via streaming, artificial intelligence (AI) and social media platforms team up to suggest personalized playlists for them.
Some young people feel that AI-generated playlists make them exposed to something dull. Their playlists are populated with songs and artists they’ve never heard of before, yet they all sound similar. In the past, they might not have noticed such a situation. Their musical consumption was narrowly dominated by the “Top-40” artists. However, AI-generated playlists have changed this, since a wider range of music is available. If they think their AI-influenced playlists are unappealing, they still have the ability to search for new music. Just because AI can suggest songs, it doesn’t prevent them researching and discovering music on their own, or sharing playlists. Anything that exists, they can find. The store is always open.
Music listening and preferences play an important role in young people’s transition (过渡) from childhood to adulthood, two seemingly opposing but vital processes: forming a unique identity, while at the same time becoming part of a community. However, AI-generated playlists have the potential to challenge this transition. So does AI make it easier to differentiate the self, but harder to bond with others
Fears of new technologies are commonplace. For example, the decline of scheduled network TV erased lots of common ground for discussion, so will 50 million Americans ever again tune in to watch the series ending of a TV show, as they did for Friends in 2004
If AI is, indeed, contributing to the transformation of teenagers’ shared listening experiences, then AI playlists are more than a convenient way to discover their next favorites. They are a revolution worth paying attention to.
12. What makes teenagers’ music listening experiences more private
A. The extensive use of electronic devices.
B. The easy access to musical instruments.
C. The lack of interaction among teenagers.
D. The popularization of music education.
13. What is paragraph 3 mainly about concerning AI-generated playlists
A. Their accessibility. B. Their development.
C. Their advantages. D. Their limitations.
14 What challenge may AI-generated playlists present
A. They make identifying oneself impossible.
B. They provide less for teens to communicate.
C. They result in the decline of network TV.
D. They prevent teens choosing similar songs.
15. Why does the author mention Friends in paragraph 5
A. To emphasize its popularity among Americans.
B. To explain people’s willingness to accept AI.
C. To tell us the predictability of new technology.
D. To show the potential social influence of AI.

In the golden mist of late summer, Frank and John, two inseparable friends, set off on an adventure they had particularly planned for weeks: a camping trip by the river. The air was filled with excitement as they packed their backpacks with essentials—tents, cookers, and a map, though they were confident in their knowledge of the area, having explored its boundaries since childhood.
As the sun began its fall, casting long shadows across the green landscape, they arrived at their chosen spot—a quiet bend in the river, far from civilization’s noisiness. They set up camp, and the crackling of the campfire and the gentle lapping of water against the shore were their only companions. Under a starry sky, they shared stories and dreams, unaware that their comfortable escape was about to take a dangerous turn.
The following morning, as they ventured deeper into the woods to gather firewood, the sky, which had been clear and blue, turned frightening, with heavy clouds gathering. In the distance, a low, powerful, rolling thunder echoed (回响) through the valley, a warning they should have noticed. Not frightened, they continued, their laughter now was drowned out by the growing roar(咆哮) of the river.
It happened swiftly. A wall of water, caused by the storm, rushed down the river, catching them off guard. In a heartbeat, their return path was cut off, the once familiar place was transformed into a maze (迷宫) of rushing currents and mudslides. Panic rose within them, but Frank, always the calmer of the two, remembered a survival tip from his father: “When lost or in danger, stay put if possible, assess your resources, and think reasonably.”
With the river too dangerous to cross, they came back to higher ground, seeking shelter beneath a rocky overhang. As the rain pounded down, they gathered together, their spirits dampened but not defeated. John remembered another crucial lesson: using natural resources for survival. He suggested they start a fire using dry leaves and branches they had collected before the storm and they managed to light a small flame, providing warmth and a light of hope.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The new sunrise brought new challenges and opportunities for Frank and John to prove their courage.

【46题答案】
【答案】Dear Peter,
Thank you so much for sharing your video with me. I’m delighted to know your participation in the Chinese Poetry Recitation Competition.
After watching your video, I’ve identified a couple of areas you could improve. There are some tone errors in the pronunciation of Chinese characters. Mandarin is known for its four distinct tones, each conveying a different meaning. Therefore, mastering them is crucial for accurate understanding. Besides, I’ve noticed problems with the pauses, which may result from a misunderstanding of a poem’s meaning. To solve these problems, I highly recommend that you thoroughly understand the meaning of the poem before your next practice. Additionally, listening to native speakers reciting the poem and mimicking their tone and rhythm will undoubtedly help you improve.
Keep up the great work, and I’m firmly convinced that you’ll shine in the competition.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
【47题答案】
【答案】The new sun rise brought new challenges and opportunities for Frank and John to prove their courage. They crafted fishing hooks from bent wires found among their scattered belongings cleverly attaching them to flexible branches to catch fish in the running river. The day was also marked by tireless efforts to signal for help, arranging branches and rocks into massive arrows that pointed toward their location, hoping these markers would catch the eye of a passing aircraft. Frank, with his keen observation skills, noticed patterns in the helicopter search patterns, suggesting they move closer to the riverbank during flyovers, increasing their chances of being spotted.
The next day, as hope was beginning to fade, a rescue helicopter appeared. The bright clothes they had hung between trees and the persistent smoke from their controlled fire served as a signal in the wilderness. As they were airlifted to safety, Frank and John looked at each other, their eyes reflecting a newfound appreciation for life, friendship, and the power of preparation and quick thinking in the face of disaster. The adventure was also a reminder that even in the most unexpected and dangerous circumstances, there is always a way out — if one remains calm, resourceful, and never loses sight of hope.
