Among the chaos of packing up my late grandmother’s attic, I found a small, locked wooden box hidden beneath a stack of yellowed newspapers. I managed to open it with an old screwdriver I found nearby. Inside, there was a bundle of letters tied together with a faded ribbon, and a delicate, dried-up rose.
The letters were written in a beautiful, flowing script that was almost illegible in places due to the ink fading over time. As I carefully unfolded the first one, which dated back to 1943, I was transported to a world of love, sacrifice, and war. The letters were a correspondence between my grandmother, then a young nurse named Clara, and a soldier named Benjamin.
Benjamin was stationed overseas, and his letters were filled with vivid descriptions of the cruel realities of war, yet also with tender declarations of his love for Clara. Clara’s letters, in turn, were filled with tales of her daily life, her longing for his return, and her support.
One letter, in particular, caught my attention. In it, Benjamin hinted at a secret mission, one that could potentially change the course of the war. He wrote that if anything were to happen to him, there was a “treasure” he wanted Clara to find. However, he never got the chance to illustrate further, and the subsequent letters were filled with worry and uncertainty as the war raged on.
As I read deeper into their story, I became determined to uncover the truth behind Benjamin’s mysterious “treasure”. I spent days searching for historical records, and even reached out to local historians and war veterans (老兵). Finally, I found a clue in an old newspaper article about a group of soldiers who had carried out a daring rescue operation during the war.
Following the trail, I discovered that Benjamin had been part of a team that had rescued a group of scientists who were working on a top-secret project. The “treasure” he spoke of, I realized, was not a material object, but the knowledge and hope that those scientists’ work represented.
This unexpected journey into my grandmother’s past not only gave me a newfound respect for her and Benjamin but also taught me the profound impact that love, sacrifice, and a single, mysterious letter could have on generations to come.

Next time you’re pushing through the burn of a workout, remember that exercise can also be a remedy (疗法). Research indicates that it serves as an effective approach to fighting chronic inflammation, particularly among those with physically inactive habits.
①______ It can begin with an infection or injury but evolve into a lasting state. Then the immune system attacks healthy tissue gradually. This process raises disease risks and contributes to tiredness, depression, or brain fog.
The scientific evidence is clear that sedentary (久坐的) people tend to have higher levels of inflammation compared with people who exercise regularly. ②______ Some researchers believe that exercise’s power to fight inflammation may even be at the heart of why physical activity is so effective at protecting us against other chronic conditions.
While some findings highlight exercise’s anti-inflammatory power, maximizing its effects requires strategic approaches. ③______ For example, a 20-minute walk or jog everyday regularly can spark temporary anti-inflammatory effects. Most moderate-intensity exercise reduces inflammation short-term, but sticking with it is key.
High-intensity exercise itself produces a temporary surge (激增) in inflammation. ④______ For similar reasons, you should avoid overtraining, since repeated intense workouts without appropriate recovery can heighten your levels of inflammation and weaken your immune system.
If possible, prioritize strength training. People with chronic inflammation tend to lose muscle mass more rapidly as they age than those with less inflammation. So strength training may be especially important for them to remain mobile and independent. It is recommended that adults make time for at least two strength-training sessions per week. ⑤______ This combined approach not only builds muscle but also interrupts chronic inflammatory pathways.
A. So it’s important to properly heal between workouts.
B. Findings have confirmed that workouts can help you relaxed.
C. Chronic inflammation is a mild condition that can persist for years.
D. But once they start moving consistently, the levels generally decline.
E. Sometimes inflammation serves a vital function in keeping you healthy.
F. It is how you exercise not just whether you exercise that plays a critical role.
G. Such training targets inflammation-causing cells, especially with aerobic exercise.

三、
答案:CDFAG
解析:①后文“It can begin with an infection or injury but evolve into a lasting state. Then the immune system attacks healthy tissue gradually. This process raises disease risks and contributes to tiredness, depression, or brain fog.” C选项“Chronic inflammation is a mild condition that can persist for years.”(慢性炎症是一种轻微的状况,但可能会持续数年),“Chronic inflammation”引出话题,“can persist for years”与后文“evolve into a lasting state”相呼应,解释了慢性炎症的特点,起到了引领后文对慢性炎症进一步阐述的作用,故选C。
②前文“The scientific evidence is clear that sedentary (久坐的) people tend to have higher levels of inflammation compared with people who exercise regularly.” D选项“But once they start moving consistently, the levels generally decline.”(但是一旦他们开始持续运动,炎症水平通常会下降),“But”表示转折,“once they start moving consistently”承接前文久坐的人,“the levels generally decline”与前文久坐的人炎症水平高形成对比,说明运动对炎症水平的影响,故选D。
③前文“While some findings highlight exercise’s anti-inflammatory power, maximizing its effects requires strategic approaches.” 后文“For example, a 20-minute walk or jog everyday regularly can spark temporary anti-inflammatory effects. Most moderate-intensity exercise reduces inflammation short-term, but sticking with it is key.” F选项“It is how you exercise not just whether you exercise that plays a critical role.”(关键不仅在于你是否运动,还在于你如何运动),“It is how you exercise not just whether you exercise”承接前文需要策略性方法,“plays a critical role”引出后文关于具体运动方式(如散步、慢跑等)对抗炎效果的影响,故选F。
④前文“High-intensity exercise itself produces a temporary surge (激增) in inflammation.” 后文“For similar reasons, you should avoid overtraining, since repeated intense workouts without appropriate recovery can heighten your levels of inflammation and weaken your immune system.” A选项“So it’s important to properly heal between workouts.”(所以在锻炼之间进行适当的恢复很重要),“So”表示因果关系,“properly heal between workouts”承接前文高强度运动产生炎症激增,引出后文避免过度训练的原因,强调了恢复的重要性,故选A。
⑤前文“If possible, prioritize strength training. People with chronic inflammation tend to lose muscle mass more rapidly as they age than those with less inflammation. So strength training may be especially important for them to remain mobile and independent. It is recommended that adults make time for at least two strength-training sessions per week.” 后文“This combined approach not only builds muscle but also interrupts chronic inflammatory pathways.” G选项“Such training targets inflammation-causing cells, especially with aerobic exercise.”(这种训练针对导致炎症的细胞,尤其是结合有氧运动时),“Such training”指代前文的力量训练,“targets inflammation-causing cells”解释了力量训练的作用,“especially with aerobic exercise”与后文“combined approach”相呼应,说明力量训练结合有氧运动的效果,故选G。
