When I was ten years old, I became a penfriend with David Lu, a boy living in Beijing. Over the years, I
had become more and more interested in Chinese culture. When there was a chance to study in Beijing as an
exchange student, I took it at once. In my first twenty-four hours in Beijing, I felt both excited and nervous. I didn’
t see one foreigner. But on my first day of school, I was greeted by many foreign faces. The students came from
all around the world. I would be in a class with Chelsea from Norway and Charlie from my motherland—the UK.

None of us had studied Chinese before, but our language skills improved quickly. By the end of the first
month, we could all make simple sentences. Some of these sentences, though, were quite funny. We often sent our
language teacher Sophie into wild laughter.
The first month was very tiring. There were so many new things to become familiar( 熟 悉 ) with.
Thankfully, our school organized many student events. We talked a lot about cultural differences and our future
plans. It was a great opportunity for us to practise speaking Chinese.
In October, David finally had time to show me around the city. Both of us were very excited to see each
other. David took me to some of his favourite restaurants. Chinese table manners are very different from those in
the West. Eating Chinese food was like an adventure(冒险), and it became my favourite part about living in

The rising costs of health care have become a problem for many countries in the world. To deal with this
problem, it is reported that a big part of the governments health budget (预算) has been used for health education
and disease prevention instead of treatment. In fact, many kinds of diseases are preventable in many ways and
preventing a disease is usually much cheaper than treating it. For example, people could avoid catching a cold if
they dressed warmly when the weather starts getting cold. But many people get sick because they fail to do so,
and have to spend money seeing a doctor.
Daily habits like eating more healthy food would have kept millions of families from becoming bankrupt if
the patients had taken action for early prevention. For example, keeping a balanced diet seems to be quite
important.
One very effective (有效的) and costless way of prevention is regular exercise, which is necessary for a
healthy mind and body. Regular exercise, such as running, walking, and playing sports is a good way to make
people feel better or reduce stress.
Health education plays a key role in improving people’s health. By giving people more information about
health, countries could help people understand the importance of disease prevention and ways to achieve it. For
example, knowing one’s family medical history is an effective way to help keep healthy. Information about health
problems among close relatives will make them aware of what they should do to prevent certain diseases through
lifestyle changes, which will work before it is too late.
However, paying more attention to disease prevention does not mean medical treatment is unimportant.
After all, prevention and treatment are just two different ways toward the same effect. In conclusion, we could
save money on health care and treat patients more successfully if our country spends more money on health
prevention and education.

As we know, goals play an important role in our life because they can make us know where we will go.
Successful people in life imagine how their life should be and set lots of goals. 41 It’s like
having a sign to show them where to go. Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a place to go to
clearly in mind which can be found on a map. He can drive straight there surely without any wasted time. The
other driver has no goal, or map. 42 But he drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere, just using
up oil. Which driver do you want to be
43 They decide what they want in life and then get there by setting goals and making plans.
Unsuccessful people usually just let life happen by accident. Goals aren’t difficult to set and they aren’t difficult to
reach. 44 You are the one who must decide what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.
Research tells us that when we write a goal down we are more likely to achieve it. 45 They are
harder to forget. Also when you write your goals in your own way, you are able to make yourself realize situations
that will bring you nearer to your goals.
A.Written goals can be reviewed usually.
B.Everyone needs to set goals in their life.
C.By setting goals they are taking control of their life.
D.He starts off at the same time from the same place.
E.It’s up to you to find out what your goals really are.

七、任务型阅读(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,共 10 分)
阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
It is easy for many people to catch a cold in the springtime or fall. It makes us wonder if scientists can send
a man to the moon, why can’t they find a cure for the common cold The answer is easy. There are actually
different cold viruses(病毒) out there. You never know which one you will get, so there isn’t a cure for each one.
When a virus attacks your body, your body works hard to get rid of it. Blood rushes to your nose and
causes a block in it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well, but your body is actually eating the virus.
Your temperature goes up and you get a fever, but the heat of your body is killing the virus. You also have a runny
nose to stop the virus from getting into your cells(细胞). You may feel very uncomfortable, but actually your
wonderful body is doing everything it can to kill the cold.
Different people do different things to deal with colds. In the United States and some other countries, for
example, people might have chicken soup to help them get over the cold. Some people take medicine to stop
different symptoms(症状) of colds.
There is one interesting thing to note - some scientists say taking medicine when you have a cold is actually
bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn’t have a way to fight it and kill it. Bodies can
do an amazing job on their own. There is a joke, however, on taking medicine when you have a cold. It goes like
this:
It takes about one week to get over a cold if you don’t take medicine, but it takes only seven days to get
over a cold if you take medicine.
66.When is it easy for many people to catch a cold
