AI is becoming more and more common in our life. Not long ago, an AI restaurant opened in Shanghai.
This restaurant is different from the ones we usually see. The AI restaurant, located in the Hongqiao area,
covers about 130 square meters. It uses smart machines and computers to do things like cooking food and serving
meals. It’s like having a robot chef and waiter all in one place! It can serve about 300 people every day, most of
whom are old people living nearby or office workers in the area.
At the restaurant, people need to order food on a screen. For those who are not sure what they want to eat,
the restaurant’s cooking system can offer advice. The restaurant’s robots cook dishes. They can make different
kinds of Chinese dishes, like gongbao chicken and Mapo tofu. They also adjust (调整) cooking temperatures and
pack food for dine-in or takeout.
At the self-service area, customers simply need to place their dishes on a smart cash desk and the system
will tell them the price of the meal. People can pay in different ways. Like using bank cards or QR codes (二维码).
The prices of the food at the AI restaurant are pretty cheap. Every meat dish costs 8 yuan while every vegetable
dish costs only 3.5 yuan.

You may have heard of the famous saying, “East or West, home is the best.” What does the word “home”
mean to you How do you say the word in French, in Chinese, in your language Although people usually know
what the word means, it sometimes has no exact translation (翻译). It’s not surprising, because the idea of home is
different from country to country, and from person to person. A home is more than a roof and four walls. It’s the
cooking, eating, talking, playing and sleeping that go on inside. And at home you usually feel safe and relaxed.
Homes look different in different countries. They also have different things inside. For example, in cold
northern Europe, there’s a fire in the living room or kitchen and all the chairs face it. In the south, where the sun
shines a lot and it’s more important to keep the heat out, there are small windows and cool stone floors.
We asked some people about their homes.
How often do people move house in your country
“In my country many people don’t stay in one place for a very long time. They often move every ten years
or so.”
—Cherry, Boston, USA
What are features (特征) of homes in your country
“In Britain, even in town, there’s always a garden. We have separate bedrooms and living rooms. But we
don’t often have balconies (阳台). The weather isn’t warm enough!”
—Pat, Exeter, England
27.Why does the writer say the word “home” sometimes has no exact translation
A.It has different meanings in different countries.
B.Many people sometimes don’t know the word.
C.It has many meanings in different dictionaries.
D.Different people have different vocabularies.
28.Why do people in the south build small windows
A.To keep warm. B.To keep the heat out.C.To save money. D.To collect the sunshine.
29.What can we know about people in his country from Cherry’s words
A.They get used to staying in one place.
B.They like to buy new houses with balconies.
C.They often move house several times in their lives.
D.They don’t have separate bedrooms and living rooms.
30.Why does the writer use the two examples at the end of the passage
试卷第 5 页,共 11 页
A.To show that homes look different in different countries.
B.To show that homes have different things inside in different countries.
C.To tell us that people in different countries have different living habits.
D.To tell us that people in different countries have different ideas about home.

On February 25th, some elderly care robots were shown to the public. These robots are great helpers for old
people and bring lots of convenience (便利) and happiness to their lives.
These robots are very useful in daily life. They can remind old people to take medicine at the right time. As
for those who have trouble walking, the robots can walk beside them. They use sensors (传感器) to know if the
old people are not steady and stop them from falling. Some robots can even go outside with old people, like
walking in the park or going to the nearby shops because they have navigation systems (导航系统).
Loneliness is a big problem for many old people. But these robots can be good friends. They can talk to old
people. They can tell interesting stories, like fairy tales or stories from history. They can also talk about everyday
things, such as the weather, local news, or the latest TV shows. This not only makes old people feel less lonely but
also helps their minds stay active. The robots can also do small jobs. They can pick up light things that old people
drop, like a book or glasses. For housework, they can do easy things like cleaning the living room, folding clothes,
or sweeping the floor. This helps old people keep their homes clean without getting too tired.
In the future, these robots will probably have even more uses. They may be like family doctors. For
example, they can check heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature all the time. If there is anything wrong,
the robot can quickly tell family members or doctors. They might also be able to help with more difficult medical
things, like helping to dress a wound (伤口) with a doctor’s help.
As technology gets better, making these robots will cost less. Then more families can afford them. When
more people can buy these robots, more money will be put into making them better. So, the robots will work even
better and be of higher quality (质量).
As the people gets older, more and more families need help taking care of the old. In the future, elderly care

Martin Strel knows one thing or two about rivers. The 63-year-old swimmer has been swimming in them
since he was a young boy. Although he holds five world records in marathon swimming, he is best known for
using his sport to warn people of water pollution. After years of swimming in dirty water, he decided he had to do
something. Strel says he began to swim to develop peace, friendship and clean water. He hopes to see
试卷第 9 页,共 11 页
environmental laws improved and put into practice.
To achieve this, he has swum in many of the world’s most famous rivers. In 2000, he swam in Europe’s
second longest river, the Danube. He swam 1,866 miles in 58 days and kept a world record for long distance (距
离) swimming. The Danube is heavily polluted by factory waste.
In 2002, Strel swam in the Mississippi River and covered a distance of 2,360 miles in 68 days. The
Mississippi is one of the most polluted rivers in the United States. It is so polluted that it is called the dead zone
(地带). Strel became so sick by the end of his Mississippi swim that he had to stay in hospital for three days.
In 2007, he swam 3,274 miles of the Amazon River in 66 days. Most of the pollution in the Amazon comes
from harmful materials. He lost 42 pounds and was so weak that he couldn’t feed himself.
Strel plans to keep on swimming for peace, friendship and clean water, but he would choose to do it in the
ocean (海洋). Sadly, the world’s rivers are simply too dirty. “Everyone would like to go swimming in clean water,”
says Strel. He dreams of a day when that will be possible for people around the world.

五、读写综合
试卷第 15 页,共 19 页
(一)阅读并回答问题。(共 5 小题,每小题 2 分,计 10 分)
阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题,每题答案不超过 6 个词。
Martin Strel knows one thing or two about rivers. The 63-year-old swimmer has been swimming in them
since he was a young boy. Although he holds five world records in marathon swimming, he is best known for
using his sport to warn people of water pollution. After years of swimming in dirty water, he decided he had to do
something. Strel says he began to swim to develop peace, friendship and clean water. He hopes to see
environmental laws improved and put into practice.
每小题答案不超过 6 个单词。

【答案】例文
Hello, I’m Daniel. Back to my life in the last year, I think I have changed a lot in many ways.
First, I used to spend most of my time playing computers games. Now I find it interesting to do some
reading because good books help me relax after a busy day. They also open up a whole new world to me.
Second, I always forgot to turn off the tap and the power when they were not in use. Sometimes I left the
tap running after I washed my hands. I always dropped litter carelessly in the park. But now I have realized the
importance of protecting the environment. I always throw the litter into the rubbish bins.
Third, I was impolite before. I sometimes shouted loudly or pushed in before others in public places. But
now, I can behave politely in public and I often give my seat to someone in need on the bus.
I’m sure I will do better and better in Grade 9.
Thanks for your listening!
