Greg Mortenson is an adventurer who once loved to climb mountains. Born in 1957, he grew up on the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. After his sister Christa died in 1992, he decided to try climbing Pakistan’s K2, the second-highest mountain in the world, in her memory. Although Mount Qomolangma is higher, K2 is thought to be more difficult and dangerous to climb. When he tried to climb the mountain in 1993, snow, ice, and bad weather made Mortenson turn back.
Mortenson recovered from frostbite and tiredness in a Pakistan village of Korphe. There he saw a group of children writing in the dirt with sticks. He learned that they had no pens or pencils, no books—not even a school or a teacher. Mortenson planned to build them a school. But at that moment he had no idea how he would make it.
It took years to raise the money to build the school. Some American schoolchildren also donated their pocket money to Mortenson’s project. Mortenson even sold his personal things to raise money. The Korphe School was finished in 1996.
Since then, Mortenson has built more than 75 schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. His schools educate both boys and girls in an area where schooling for girls is very rare. Mortenson’s goal is to use education to bring peace into this often dangerous area.

Luckily, the horses accepted me as a superior form of Yahoo and began to treat me kindly. The first thing they did was to teach me their language. As you know by now, dear reader, I am very good at languages. I soon learnt enough words to communicate quite well and I understood we were in Houyhnhnm Land.
The Houyhnhnms continued to be impressed by my wisdom and my clean and smart appearance. Many other Houyhnhnms came to visit me. All of them felt confused (困惑) because I was similar to the Yahoos. But I did my very best to show how different I was from these disgusting creatures
The first grey horse I saw became my master and teacher. Together we had many interesting conversations. I told my master that the greatest ambition for all Yahoos was to have as much money as possible to buy bigger and better things. I also added that it was very difficult to get that much money honestly. As a result, most of the people lived a poor life while a few people had lots of money.
You may think, dear reader, that my description of life in England and Europe was very unfair. But after living with the Houyhnhnms for some time, it became clearer to me how equal their society was. I felt I wanted to live in Houyhnhnm Land for the rest of my life. It was such a pleasant place.
Over time I even began to copy the appearance of the Houyhnhnms and made myself shoes like theirs. I was happy to live with the Houyhnhnms for the rest of my life but unluckily everything changed on one fatal day. The Houyhnhnms didn’t think it was right that I lived like a Houyhnhnm.

根据“so lots of rich land has c.. into desert”因此许多肥沃的土地……
分析句子可知,横线上是形容词修饰名词problems,由于后文“The earth is crying for help.”
考查“be friendly to”对……友好。故填(f)riendly。

分析句子可知,横线上应是动词,根据“We should...to separate...”
根据“we have o...one Earth”我们有……

I enjoy reading different kinds of books.
【详解】I“我”;enjoy doing sth“喜欢做某事”;read“阅读”;different kinds of“各种类型的”;book“书”,应用复数形式。故填I enjoy reading different kinds of books.
(Three Days to See)(汉译英)
Recently, I have finished reading a book named Three Days to See.
由recently可知句子用现在完成时,其谓语动词结构为“have/has done”,因主语为I,助动词用have。 Recently, I have finished reading a book named Three Days to See.
(after a busy day)(汉译英)
After a busy day, reading can help me (to) relax./Reading can help me (to) relax after a busy day.
(to) do sth. After a busy day, reading can help me (to) relax./Reading can help me (to) relax after a busy day.
Finishing reading this book, I know how to face difficulties.
Finishing reading this book, I know how to face difficulties.
(a deaf-blind girl)(汉译英)
It tells a story of a deaf-blind girl.
It tells a story of a deaf-blind girl.
