为了降低打字速度。
早期打字机字母排列确实是按照二十六个字母的顺序排列的。但让打字员崩溃的是，ABCD排列的顺序用起来实在是太快了，打字机各种瘫痪。
因为早期打字机是通过按键触动金属臂来打字，在相邻字母所联动的控制杆没有完全回归原位的时候，下一个字母便会堵住，被迫让打字员停下来。而ABCD这种排序会导致常用字母相距过近，连续敲击的时间过短，按键容易卡住，这样会导致控制杆无法回到原位，没办法继续打字。这样一来，打字五分钟，修键盘俩小时，非常影响工作效率。
