A Vacation with My Mother
I had an interesting childhood: It was filled with surprise and amusements, all because of my mother—loving, sweet, and yet absent-minded and forgetful. One strange family trip we took when I was eleven tells a lot about her.
My two sets of grandparents lived in Colorado and North Dakota, and my parents decided to spend a few weeks driving to those states and seeing all the sights along the way. As the first day of our trip approached, David, my eight-year-old brother, and I unwillingly said good-bye to all of our friends. Who knew if we’d ever see them again? Finally, the moment of our departure arrived, and we loaded suitcases, books, games, camping equipment, and a tent into the car and bravely drove off. We bravely drove off again two hours later after we’d returned home to get the purse and traveller’s checks Mum had forgotten.
David and I were always a little nervous when using gas station bathrooms if Mum was driving while Dad slept:“You stand outside the door and play lookout while I go, and I’ll stand outside the door and play lookout while you go.” I had terrible pictures in my mind: “Honey, where are the kids?”“What?! Oh, Gosh… I thought they were being awfully quiet.” We were never actually left behind in a strange city, but we weren’t about to take any chances.
On the fourth or fifth night, we had trouble finding a hotel with a vacancy. After driving in vain for some time, Mum suddenly got a great idea: Why didn’t we find a house with a likely-looking backyard and ask if we could set up a tent there? David and I became nervous. To our great relief, Dad turned down the idea. Mum never could understand our objections. If a strange family showed up on her front doorsteps, Mum would have been delighted. She thinks everyone in the world as nice as she is. We finally found a vacancy in the next town.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
The next day we remembered the brand-new tent we had brought with us.

But then we were half an hour away from the hotel, where the tent was left behind. Dad recommended buying a new one, while Mum insisted on our going back to fetch it, saying, “Forgetful people like me may lose things repeatedly, so it’s unwise to give up the tent.” Finally, we got back the tent and hit the road again. If Mum hadn’t been that absent-minded, it would have saved us the trouble of going back again and again.
We drove through several states and saw lots of great sights along the way.

One day, towards evening, we found a great camping site at the foot of a high mountain. David and I helped Dad put up the tent, and Mum was busy preparing supper. When the setting sun cast an orange light over the mountains, the tent was set up and the meal was ready. Sitting around the campfire,we talked and laughed. Every time we mentioned the funny incidents of the journey, a pleasant smile would spread over Mum’s face.
  续写部分情节线的走向:帐篷落在酒店→返回酒店取帐篷→接着开车→欣赏风景→找个地方宿营;

Barbara, Chad’s loving grandma, penned a children’s book which illustrates how friendship outdoes material wealth in depth, a lesson as relevant today as it was when Barbara first wrote it fifty years ago.
As a treasure in her heart, Barbara longed to publish her works. She had had shots at making contact with publishers through various channels, but endless efforts and devotion were turned into countless rejections.
Within Barbara’s heart, a wave of torment(痛苦) was as helpless as Alice in a bottomless hole. She kept all these letters, perhaps as a reminder of her dream, in a folder that represented both hope and disappointment.
Years later, Chad became a sociable and responsible adult with friends from all walks of life. One day, he overheard the dream of his grandma from his father and knew what Grandma had thought. Understanding the significance of the book to Grandma, Chad resolved to take the bull by the horns. The first thing was to get the draft from Grandma.
On a sunny afternoon, with gentle wind clicking through tree branches, he rushed to his grandma’s house. When he pushed the door open, his eyes settled on a rocking chair, where a ray of sunshine casting its soft brilliance on the weathered but peaceful face, creating a sweet atmosphere. “Grandma.” His voice, though quiet, carried a sense of reassurance(宽慰) that was deeply felt. After hearing Chad’s idea, she wore a hopeful and relieved smile. Slowly, she fished out the draft, handing it over to Chad.

Seeing the draft lying in his hand, he felt a heavy burden was put on his shoulder. Would he fail to complete the mission? What if Grandma felt disappointed again? Who would be willing to help him? Suddenly, a faint voice in his head carrying a message of hope brought comfort to him. Alex, a book editor, popped(突然出现) into his head.

In a café with soft music on, Alex had a small amount of coffee, then attentively leafing through pages with his mind drawn into the plot, leaving Chad as restless as ants on a hot pan. This moment, a touch of slight change on his face would tug Chad’s heartstrings. Not long afterwards, a smile was playing on his lips, “An impressive description! Consider it done.” Eyes filled with gratitude, Chad jumped to his feet, grabbing Alex’s hands tightly, a lump in his throat.
One sunny morning, Chad got a nice-packaged delivery. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
At the sight of the new cover, Chad immediately fished out the phone to break the news to his grandma. “Grandma! We made it!” Chad exclaimed, his laughter carrying through the warm air. “You really make my day, sweetie.” Grandma replied with a satisfied smile playing on the weathered but peaceful face. Meanwhile, Chad sighed with relief, a heavy burden lifted from his shoulders. The book More More More quickly climbed the charts, becoming a bestseller, reflecting Chad’s utmost efforts in realising his grandma’s dream and providing warmth and affection.
