The summer I turned 13, Grandma taught me the most valuable lesson through a handful of dry peas (豌豆).
“Shall we 29 them up ” Grandma’s eyes shone with secrets. Her warm hands guided mine as we
planted the seeds (种子) in the soil together. “Patience is the 30 to all good things,” she said in a low voice.
For three weeks, I watered the planting area 31 , checking every morning with schoolbag still on my
shoulders. However, days passed and there was no sign of sprouts (新芽). 32 washed over me. “Maybe
they’re too old, ”I suggested, 33 to give up the project. Grandma smiled confidently, “Let’s give them
seven more sunrises.”
On the sixth day, new green sprouts 34 through the soil like treasures. From then on, I hurried to the
garden before breakfast every day, 35 a notebook in one hand to draw tiny leaves. When insects came, we
thought about 36 to do and created a special insect killer—garlic (大蒜) water. Through sunny and rainy days,
the plants gradually grew wildly.
It took months and seasons of 37 waiting for peas to grow up. Nature shows me the growing rule. That’
s when I realized answers 38 only after weeks of continuous practice.
One day while watering the peas, Grandma pointed to the plants near the fence (栅栏)and said, “Look how
the strongest peas grow here. They had to work the 39 because the fence took away most sunlight here.”The
truth shocked me like summer rain— 40 positions never lead to meaningful growth.
Life’s most beautiful changes begin underground long before we see any growth. The 41 growth of
peas is like every dream in its way. We’re all seeds carrying unknown possibilities, requiring not just time but true
patience and day-by-day efforts.
When my younger cousin 42 her paintings recently, I gave her a pea packet and Grandma’s golden

In 2025, high schools across China began fully implementing a “double rest day” policy, allowing students to
enjoy weekends without extra classes or homework. This change, announced by the Ministry of Education in late
2024, aims to reduce academic pressure and improve students’ physical and mental health.
Before 2025, many high schools held weekend classes or assigned heavy homework to prepare for exams
like the Gaokao. Under the new rules, schools must ensure students have Saturdays and Sundays free. Teachers
are encouraged to finish lessons within five school days by compressing class hours or improving teaching
efficiency. For example, some schools now use 45-minute classes instead of 50 minutes, creating more free time.
Students report feeling happier and less stressed. “I finally have time to play basketball and learn painting,”
said Li Wei, a 10th grader from Shanghai. Schools also organize weekend activities like science clubs, sports
competitions, and museum trips. Parents, however, have mixed feelings. While many support the policy, others
worry about their children’s exam performance.
Some schools initially struggled to finish lessons on time. To solve this, teachers now use online platforms to
share review materials. “We guide students to study smarter, not longer,” explained Ms. Zhang, a math teacher in
Beijing. Additionally, homework is limited to 90 minutes per day, and exams are simplified to focus on key
knowledge points.
Education experts say the policy will help create a more balanced generation. “Rest is not laziness—it’s
essential for creativity and growth,” said Dr. Wang from Peking University Early data shows that students’ sleep
quality and classroom focus have improved.
As China continues to reform its education system, the “double weekend” policy marks a big step toward
valuing students’ well-being alongside academic success.

According to some researchers, the brain is very active during sleep. One reason is probably that the brain
appears to clean itself during sleeping hours. This idea has gotten the attention of researchers. This is because
losing a good night’s sleep can cause people’s thinking to be unclear, while a lasting lack of sleep is believed to
increase the risk of a serious brain illness. Then how does the brain clean itself
Over 12 years ago, scientists at the University of Rochester first reported finding a system in the brain. A
water-like substance (物质) from the brain travels through channels (管道) near blood vessels (血管) to carry
waste out of the brain.
According to the study, the accumulation (堆积) of beta-amyloids (β淀粉样蛋白) has something to do with
problems in the brain. When scientists injected (注射) mice with beta-amyloids, they left the brain faster when the
animals were sleeping. It is not clear exactly how the system works. However, some research has shown that the
movement of blood vessels might help move the waste-clearing substance where it needs to go.
However, studying this system in humans has been challenging. Regular MRI scans (扫描检查) can show
some of the channels, but they can’t show how the system works.
To overcome this problem, the research team at Oregon Health & Science University injected a substance
into five patients. It “lit up” during MRI scans 24 to 48 hours later. It was seen moving through the brain using the
channels as in the earlier research on mice.
This discovery is meaningful and will likely lead to further research on how brain waste clearance is linked
to human health. “Researchers are now planning to measure (测量) glymphatic function (类淋巴功能) in people,”
said Dr. Jeff Iliff who has helped lead the research. But he isn’t sure of the result. Besides the influence of sleep,
animal studies show that a blood pressure drug might improve glymphatic (淋巴) clearing. Jeff and his workmates
plan to study this drug in a group of patients. It seems that larger studies in healthy people are also needed.
( )68. What may happen if people lose a good night’s sleep
A. They will only be tired. B. They will find it hard to think clearly.
C. They will feel much more excited. D. They will face a serious brain illness.
( )69. How did the scientists study the system in humans
A. They asked five patients to sleep.
B. They took some pictures of blood vessels.
C. They injected a special substance into themselves.
D. They used MRI scans and a special substance to help.
( )70.What does the underlined word “linked” in Paragraph 6 mean
A. Connected. B. Compared. C. Similar. D. Used.
( )71.What will Dr. Jeff Iliff probably do in the future
A. He will work in the University of Washington.
B. He will lead the waste-clearance research around the world. C. He will start to research how sleep influences the clearing.
D. He will study how the drug helps to improve glymphatic clearing ( )72.What would be the best structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.
B)请阅读下面的短文,掌握其大意,然后根据短文内容从下面方框内的七个选项中,选择五个还原到原 文中 ,使短文的意思通顺、结构完整。(每小题 2 分)

Why do you think so 75 So he did many tests and at last he got the result. That is to say, every color
has its own weight in our mind.
The scientists told us that colors also have smell. Can you smell colors Of course not. Then why did the
scientists say so 76 It reaches our brain through sense organs (器官). According to this research,
scientists said that people accept the colors they like, and refuse the colors they hate. So your body and mind will
be healthy by using the colors you like. Or you’ll be nervous or even get ill. For example, you like blue and hate
red. If you stay in a room with red windows, wallpaper, tables and chairs for two hours, you’ll feel you have been
there for four hours. But if the room is blue, you’ll feel you have been there for only an hour. And, if a person
walks out of a blue room and into a red room, his body temperature will rise. 77
