You can hardly imagine how my family survived with almost nothing after the accident. Whenever we think back, we still feel grateful for those who helped us when we were in trouble.
When I was 12, the house where I had grown up was burned to the ground on a summer night. Luckily, my parents, brothers and I ran out of the house along with our dogs. Yet, we had nothing but the night clothes we were sleeping in.
I spent the rest of that night with friends of our family. I was too scared to sleep. And I didn’t know what lay ahead for us. The next day, my mum brought me a few T-shirts and pairs of jeans. They were given by one of her friends. One pair of them was too short and another pair was too long. But I didn’t care. At least I had some clothes again.
As the summer days went by, my dad rented (租用) an old house by the side of the road near our old house. After we moved in, our friends and community continued to give things to help us. There were more clothes, furniture (家具), food, money and even some books for me to read.
Looking back now, I am really thankful for all we went through that summer. It taught me so much about life, love and people. It showed me that when we have nothing left, love is enough.
1.Why could not the writer sleep (不超过5个词)
2.What did the writer’s family receive from their friends and community (不超过10个词)

Have you ever thought about who takes care of the earth’s skin (皮肤)—the soil Well, there are special people called soil doctors, or soil scientists, who do just that. They play a big part in keeping our environment healthy.
Imagine if the soil in your garden wasn’t good, the plants wouldn’t grow well, right That’s where soil doctors come in. They are experts who study soil to make sure it’s healthy. They check soil to see what nutrients (营养物) it has and if there are any harmful things in it.
Just like doctors for people, soil doctors give “prescriptions (处方)” for the soil. If the soil needs more nutrients, they might suggest adding fertilizer (肥料). If there are pollutants, they find ways to clean it up.
Soil doctors also talk to farmers and teach them how to take care of their land. They show farmers how to use natural methods, like adding organic (有机的) matter and changing the kinds of crops, to keep the soil healthy. This helps the farmers grow better crops (庄稼) and protects the environment at the same time.
So, next time you see a beautiful garden or a rich field, remember the hard work of soil doctors. They are working silently to keep our soil and our planet healthy.
4.What do we call people who take care of the soil
5.What is the role of soil doctors
6.Why is healthy soil important
7.How do soil doctors help farmers
8.Can you think of one reason why we should care about soil health (写出一个答案即可,不限于文章的句子)

He studied engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and then went to further his education in the USA.In 1939, he was awarded a doctorate (博士学位) in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics. After that, he spent many years teaching and doing research at universities in the USA.

His influence is still present today in the Long March rocket programme and other space missions.
Qian devoted (献身) himself to his country, and his great work brought honour and success to China. Still, Qian lived a simple life and was not interested in fame or money. As the high school entrance examination is coming soon, you might feel a bit worried or nervous. These feelings may make you stressed out and fail to focus on your studies. In the last weekend, what can you do to help yourself get full-prepared Here are some students’ and teachers’ opinions.
I think it’s important not to start learning new knowledge. Instead, I’ll review the key points and formulas (公式) I’ve already learned. For example, in math, I’ll go over the types of questions I often made mistakes in. Also, I’ll make sure to get enough sleep and keep a good mood. A relaxed state of mind can help me perform better in the exam. — Zhang Ming, a 15-year-old student I plan to do some light exercise in the morning of the last weekend, like jogging. It can help me relieve stress. Then, I’ll go through my notebooks to refresh my memory of important grammar points in English and historical events in history. I won’t do a lot of difficult exercises, just some simple ones to keep my mind active. — Li Hua, a 16-year-old student
Students should avoid doing overly difficult or new-type questions in the last weekend. They should focus on their own weaknesses based on previous exams. If a student is weak in math, they can do some simple math exercises. Also, it’s necessary to have a proper schedule, not staying up late or being too lazy to keep a good mindset (心态). —Ms. Wang, a math teacher In the last weekend, students can read some excellent model essays to get a sense of writing styles. But don’t try to focus on some new and difficult points. Review the basic Chinese characters, words, and the ancient poems and texts that must be memorized. And they should also ensure they have a peaceful state of mind, not being too nervous. —Mr. Liu, a Chinese teacher

When winter comes, Siberian cranes migrate from northeast Siberia in Russia to Poyang Lake in Jiangxi Province, China. About 95 percent of the birds spend the season. However, climate change has endangered the birds’ habitats.
“In some years, the Poyang Lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences droughts. Both of these lead to the problem that there isn’t enough food in the cranes’ habitat,” Qian Fawen, a researcher from the National Bird Banding Center of China, said to China Daily.
To help deal with the problem, the local government has built 70 hectares of lotus roots in Nanchang to provide food during the winter for the cranes. The birds population has risen from about 3, 000 to more than 5, 000 over the past 20 years, according to Qian.
Over the years, China has worked hard to protect migratory birds. Recently, 1,140 places in the country have been taken as important breeding grounds, wintering grounds and migratory stops, with most of them located in wetlands. They play a key role in cleaning water, preventing floods, and helping with biodiversity.
To protect China’s wetlands, the Wetlands Protection law was introduced on June 1, 2022. It stops building work on important national and stops activities, including giving out wastewater. Thanks to these efforts, China has reported more bird wintering in nation’s wetlands. For example, last December, Shanghai Chongming Dongtan Bird National Nature Reserve recorded more than 2,900 tundra swans up from some1,000 seen during the winter of 2021.

Mr Smith stood before his class of 30 students and was going to hand out the final exam papers. “I know how hard you have all worked to get ready for this test,” he said. “And because I know you are all able to understand these questions, I’m ready to offer a ‘B’ to anyone who would prefer not to take the test.”
A number of students jumped up to thank the teacher and left the classroom. Mr Smith looked at the rest of the students and said, “Does anyone else want to get a ‘B’ This is your last chance.” Two more students decided to go. Seven students stayed. Mr Smith then handed out the papers. There were only three sentences on the paper: Congratulations! You have received an “A” in this class. Keep believing yourself.
I never had a teacher who gave a test like that, but I think it is a test that any teacher could and should give. Students who do not have confidence in what they have learned are B students at most.
The same is true of students in real life. The A students are those who believe in what they are doing because they have learned from both successes and failures. They have learned life’s lessons, whether from school education or from events in their lives, and have become better people. Scientists say that by the age of eight, 80 percent of what we believe about ourselves has already been formed. You are a big kid now and you realize that you have some limits. However, as long as (只要) you overcome (征服) your weakness and keep on trying, success will come to you in the end. Hello Kitty, the cat with no mouth, has become the first cartoon kitty to go to space! Lauren Rojas, a 13-year-old girl from America came up with the idea for her science project at school.
The inspiration (灵感) came from a television programme Lauren once watched. Lauren spent about a month building a small silver rocket (火箭) and a weather balloon by herself. She put the Hello Kitty doll into the rocket and tied it with the balloon. After testing wind direction and temperature, she set the balloon free.
After a few minutes, the balloon rose more than 90,000 feet above the ground. It was near outer space. There, the air was so thin that the balloon burst (爆炸). The balloon was 53 times larger than its original size before bursting open. Hello Kitty’s rocket fell back down to Earth with the help of a parachute (降落伞), and landed safely.
Hello Kitty went along for the ride in the rocket just for fun. “I have liked her ever since I was 6 years old,” Lauren told the New York Daily News. “I thought it would be really fun to add a toy inside the rocket.”
