(2025·广东省茂名市高三模拟)Tai chi is known to increase fitness and improve balance. Now, new research suggests it's better than more vigorous aerobic (有氧的) exercise for lowering blood pressure in people with prehypertension (高血压前期).
In the new study, researchers in China randomly assigned 342 adults with prehypertension to one of two groups. The average age of participants was 49.Roughly half the people participated in guided aerobic exercise, including jogging, climbing stairs, and cycling. The other half were trained to practice tai chi. Both groups got hour long sessions four times a week.
After 12 months, those in the tai chi group saw bigger drops in their blood pressure than those in the aerobic exercise group. What's more, nearly 22% of the people who practiced tai chi saw their blood pressure fall to within normal range, compared with nearly 16% of people in the aerobic exercise group. And fewer patients in the tai chi group went on to develop hypertension than in the aerobic exercise group.
So how does tai chi help lower blood pressure “The practice tends to stimulate more of a response from the Parasympathetic Nervous System (副交感神经系统) or PNS for short,” says Ruth Taylor, a professor at the University of Arizona's College of Nursing. The PNS is the network of nerves that relaxes your body after periods of stress or danger.
“The PNS helps us relax everything, and I think it is the response that is lowering blood pressure,” says Ruth Taylor, “I think it's also the meditative quality of tai chi.”
The practice is appealing as a form of exercise because it requires little space or equipment.“I think the beauty of tai chi is that you don't have to own a special gym membership; you don't have to buy special clothing,” Ruth Taylor says.“Once you learn tai chi, you can do it anytime, anyplace, anywhere. And it does make a difference.”

Determined to build up his strength and willpower, he signed up for the city half marathon three weeks ago. After several days of hard training, finally came the big day. At the beginning of the competition, he was at ease and relaxed, rushing in front of the crowd as an arrow. However, the following parts began harder and harder for him. When it came to the last five hundred metres, his legs were as heavy as ice blocks, so he had to drag his legs, stumbling forward as if drunk. He almost fell apart and completely lost heart. He was about to give up when he heard some voice shouting his name and excitedly cheering up for him. He determined that he wouldn’t fail them. He gathered all his strength and dashed to the finishing line with everything he had. Then came screams of excitement — he made it, and tears of joy streamed down his cheeks. From this experience he learned that hard work and efforts will pay off in the end.

Its pink nose was breathing on me, and its big, brown eyes were looking at me with love. I smiled and said, “Hello, Fluffy.” Suddenly my face was covered in dog kisses. I hugged his neck, petted his head, scratched his belly and laughed as he continued to shower me with his love.

Both groups got hour-long sessions four times a week.

Determined to build up his strength and willpower, he signed up for the city half-marathon three weeks ago. After several days of hard training, finally came the big day. At the beginning of the competition, he was at ease and relaxed, rushing in front of the crowd as an arrow. However, the following parts began harder and harder for him. When it came to the last five hundred metres, his legs were as heavy as ice-blocks,
so he had to drag his legs, stumbling forward as if drunk. He almost fell apart and completely lost heart. He was about to give up when he heard some voice shouting his name and excitedly cheering up for him. He determined that he wouldn't fail them. He gathered all his strength and dashed to the finishing line with everything he had. Then came screams of excitement — he made it, and tears of joy streamed down his cheeks. From this experience he learned that hard work and efforts will pay off in the end.

A
(2025·石家庄模拟)I am a multisport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up, school wasn't really my thing, but sport very much was. Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the
classroom. When I entered education, I knew I wanted to be more than a coach on the field and court — I wanted to help students like me make meaningful connections to school through sports.
I designed a program around the concepts of comfort and stretch zones. On day one, I set up a range of equipment for different sports across a field. In groups, students discussed sports that they felt comfortable and safe playing. They then took turns selecting their comfort sport on the field, doing a brief share, and playing with their group. Afterward, we had a class discussion on the importance of doing things that bring joy and passion, and how sharing that passion with others motivates us and the people around us.
On day two, with the same field design and sporting equipment, I introduced the idea of stretch zones. Students formed the same groups as on day one and discussed which sports were out of their comfort zone and more challenging to them. Some of my students were shy and others slightly frustrated as they struggled to perform the skills in sports in which they were not comfortable. Then we discussed, as a class, how even when something is challenging, if we recognize the difficulty and intentionally practice, we give ourselves the opportunity to overcome it over time.
The program required more than just adjusting my curriculum — it also meant some changes to the way I taught. I found myself opening up to my students and sharing my own hardships and successes with them. As a result, my students felt freer to be their real selves.

(2025·江西吉安市六校协作体高三联考)The average American gets about 4,000 steps a day — but how much is enough According to a recent study of more than 72,000 people, getting in 9,000 to 10,000 daily steps cuts the risk of death by more than a third and reduced cardiovascular (心血管) disease risk by at least 20 percent, but even smaller increases showed benefits.
Ashley Goodwin, one of the study's authors, says the study really builds on the evidence we already know about how walking can help lower cardiovascular risk and death. He found it especially amazing that the benefit differed so little between those who sat for long periods each day and those who sat less. “That's really great because it drives home the message that simply walking a little bit more than you usually do is going to bring some health benefits, no matter where you're starting from.”
Past research had shown that higher step counts are linked to better heart health and a longer life, and a separate body of research has shown the increased risks of cardiovascular disease and death associated with more sedentary (久坐) time. But this study brought those bodies of research together to learn if extra daily steps could offset (抵消) the risks of sedentary behavior even in those who spend much of the day seated.
The results show that both highly sedentary and less sedentary people had statistically similar risk reductions from higher step counts. But the findings also reveal that the more steps people had per day, the more their risk of heart disease or death fell, up until about 9,000 to 9,700 daily steps for highly sedentary people.
In fact, highly sedentary people in the study began experiencing a heart benefit starting as low as 4,300 steps per day, when their risk of heart disease fell by 10 percent. Doubling that step counts to 9,700 steps a day doubled the benefit. Similarly, highly sedentary people began seeing a 20 percent reduced risk of death starting at 4,100 steps per day. Again, that benefit nearly doubled to 39 percent when their daily step counts increased to 9,000.

5.What is newly found in the study
A.Higher step counts are linked to a longer life.
B.Walking 10,000 steps a day is not suitable for everyone.
C.A small increase in people's usual step counts is beneficial.
D.The average American gets around 4,000 steps each day.
根据第一段末句“According to a recent study of more than 72,000 people ...” 再根据第二段末句“That's really great because it drives home the message that ...”

6.What makes Goodwin surprised
A.The more steps people get, the healthier they are.
B.Walking can treat cardiovascular diseases to some degree.
C.People can benefit from walking without walking too fast.
D.Walking has similar effect on sedentary people and active people.
根据第二段“He found it especially amazing that the benefit differed so little between ...”

7.What is one aim of the study
A.To research how step counts differ from people to people.
B.To examine how walking can help lower cardiovascular risk.
C.To know whether extra daily steps offset the risks of being sedentary.
D.To check whether sedentary life can lead to increased risks of death.
根据第三段末句“But this study brought those bodies of research together to learn ...”

8.What is the function of the figures in the last paragraph
A.To list the recommended step counts.
B.To show the link between step counts and health.
C.To warn people of the harm of sedentary lifestyle.
D.To compare the steps of active people and inactive people.
根据最后一段“In fact, highly sedentary people in the study began experiencing a heart benefit starting as low as 4,300 steps per day ...”

(2025·华中师大附中高三模拟)There's a reason why so many people love running early in the morning. 1 . Not only do you begin your day more relaxed and refreshed, but you've already started things off with an accomplishment. If you think you're ready to take advantage of the benefits of a morning run, here are four suggestions from the professionals.
·Find a friend, and be gentle with yourself
Finding a partner to run with will give you someone to be responsible for, and make it much harder to blow off the run. It's also important to remember that this is a process, and you can't expect to do it perfectly from the beginning. 2 . “Once you get into the habit, it becomes natural and actually jump-starts your day,” says Sheri Piers, top American female finisher at the 2012 Boston Marathon.
·Embrace the movement
“The first few steps or blocks will be tough in the morning. They always are,” says Dr. Jordan Metzl, who has over 32 marathon finishes under his belt. With a practice of more than 20,000 patients, Metzl's days are jam-packed, so early morning runs are a must. 3 . “Sometimes you have to just do it, and remember that the motivation will come later,” he says.
·Stay warm
4 . “If I go to bed in my sports wear, all I need to do is throw on the outer layers and head out the door. At least that takes away some of the inconvenience,” says Tina Muir, a half-marathoner. She also leaves her alarm on the other side of the room to help push herself up.
· 5
“I view waking up early as tearing off a Band-Aid,” says Michele Gonzalez, a running coach. “It's gonna hurt for a bit.” Her advice is relatively simple. “You just have to set the alarm early and start doing it,” she says. “After a few days, you'll be tired earlier at night and will start going to bed earlier. This makes the early alarm feel a bit more manageable.”
A.It has major benefits
B.Have a training plan
C.Make peace with the pain
D.It's just like warming up a car in winter
E.Even if you have a setback or two, keep at it
F.Still, he knows how hard it can be to get motivated
G.The worst part is getting changed in the cold air, especially in winter
根据本段中Michele Gonzalez所说的话“It's gonna hurt for a bit”和下文中她给出的建议“You just have to ... doing it ”可知,本段主要讲如何应对早起的痛苦,故C项适合作本段的小标题。
(2025·邢台模拟)Despite being 75 years old, Chai Tixia's expertise in Jianzi is truly impressive. With quick kicks, he effortlessly sends the Jianzi into the air and gracefully guides it to land 1 (gentle) on his head.

Through Jianzi, Chai harvests not only health but a sense of belonging and friendship.

Just as her words sank in, I heard Lauren behind me.“I'm gonna be a Lady Tiger,” she yelled, skipping into the room and throwing her arms in the air.Everything that could happen flashed through my mind.I discussed Lauren's announcement with my wife that evening and finally agreed. After all, there were only 11 girls, not everyone willing to play.
The next afternoon, I parked in front of the school gymnasium.Inside, Coach Forsythe greeted us, “We're glad Lauren came out for the team. She is not just a cheerleader!” Lauren stood alone at the other end of the court, shooting free throws. No other girl on the court grinned like Lauren did, and after every shot, Lauren approvingly cried, “Woo hoo!”, seemingly not caring if she made the basket or not.
Mid-November, the season's first basketball game arrived.I settled into a seat with the rest of my family. The game got off to a good start, but soon Lady Tigers was behind.Lauren followed the movement on the court and reacted to every play.Even though Lauren wasn't playing, she looked as if she were having the time of her life.I felt admiration for my daughter.Plus, her team was getting beaten, yet she still enjoyed the action.Just less than two minutes left, and Lady Tigers was down by seventeen points.

(2025·石家庄模拟)I am a multisport athlete and seasoned coach. When I was growing up, school wasn’t really my thing, but sport very much was. Athletics connected me to my school community by giving me a sense of belonging and success even when I struggled in the classroom.

Ashley Goodwin, one of the study’s authors, says the study really builds on the evidence we already know about how walking can help lower cardiovascular risk and death. He found it especially amazing that the benefit differed so little between those who sat for long periods each day and those who sat less. “That’s really great because it drives home the message that simply walking a little bit more than you usually do is going to bring some health benefits, no matter where you’re starting from.”
C.A small increase in people’s usual step counts is beneficial.
D.The average American gets around 4,000 steps each day.
6.What makes Goodwin surprised
A.The more steps people get, the healthier they are.
B.Walking can treat cardiovascular diseases to some degree.
C.People can benefit from walking without walking too fast.
D.Walking has similar effect on sedentary people and active people.
7.What is one aim of the study
A.To research how step counts differ from people to people.
B.To examine how walking can help lower cardiovascular risk.
C.To know whether extra daily steps offset the risks of being sedentary.
D.To check whether sedentary life can lead to increased risks of death.
8.What is the function of the figures in the last paragraph
A.To list the recommended step counts.
B.To show the link between step counts and health.
C.To warn people of the harm of sedentary lifestyle.
D.To compare the steps of active people and inactive people.

(2025·华中师大附中高三模拟)There’s a reason why so many people love running early in the morning. 1 . Not only do you begin your day more relaxed and refreshed, but you’ve already started things off with an accomplishment. If you think you’re ready to take advantage of the benefits of a morning run, here are four suggestions from the professionals.
·Find a friend, and be gentle with yourself
Finding a partner to run with will give you someone to be responsible for, and make it much harder to blow off the run. It’s also important to remember that this is a process, and you can’t expect to do it perfectly from the beginning. 2 . “Once you get into the habit, it becomes natural and actually jump starts your day,” says Sheri Piers, top American female finisher at the 2012 Boston Marathon.
·Embrace the movement
“The first few steps or blocks will be tough in the morning. They always are,” says Dr. Jordan Metzl, who has over 32 marathon finishes under his belt. With a practice of more than 20,000 patients, Metzl’s days are jam packed, so early morning runs are a must. 3 . “Sometimes you have to just do it, and remember that the motivation will come later,” he says.
·Stay warm
4 . “If I go to bed in my sports wear, all I need to do is throw on the outer layers and head out the door. At least that takes away some of the inconvenience,” says Tina Muir, a half marathoner. She also leaves her alarm on the other side of the room to help push herself up.
· 5
“I view waking up early as tearing off a Band Aid,” says Michele Gonzalez, a running coach. “It’s gonna hurt for a bit.” Her advice is relatively simple. “You just have to set the alarm early and start doing it,” she says. “After a few days, you’ll be tired earlier at night and will start going to bed earlier. This makes the early alarm feel a bit more manageable.”
A.It has major benefits
B.Have a training plan
C.Make peace with the pain
D.It’s just like warming up a car in winter
E.Even if you have a setback or two, keep at it
F.Still, he knows how hard it can be to get motivated
G.The worst part is getting changed in the cold air, especially in winter
