Many people have turned to top students for help with their questions during school, much like in a “cyber classroom” called “House of Youth”. In this online space, around a dozen provincial-level top scorers from the gaokao serve as companions and “mentors”, teaching and answering viewers’ questions. This public online classroom is an account on Douyin, founded by three post-2000 university students: Zhang Boyu and Liu Zimian from Tsinghua University, and Zhang Chujian from the Central University of Finance and Economics.
The first video of House of Youth was released in March 2024, featuring Jin Zehan, the top science scorer of the 2023 gaokao in Heilongjiang Province, answering physics-related questions. Since then, House of Youth has gained over 1 million followers in just three months. Zhang Chujian, 21, acknowledged that social media platforms and the involvement of top scorers have helped them reach a wider audience more quickly. He said, “In past media reports, top scorers were often portrayed as unreachable figures. We want to bring these top scorers back down to earth, so they can truly walk alongside young people and share their real experiences and valuable insights,” he explained.
Convincing so many top scorers to join this endeavor wasn’t about chasing network traffic or economic benefits. “What motivated the top scorers the most was a vision: to do good, to use their resources to give back to society, and to align their actions with their values,” Zhang Boyu, 21, explained, “In our own words, it’s about lighting up the eyes of young people. We want everyone to have a spark in their eyes and to find their future direction.” Liu Zimian, 22, the other founder, said that while House of Youth focuses on producing hard-core knowledge videos, it’s equally important to incorporate an “internet vibe” to better connect with the audience.
Through their platform, they hope to break down regional barriers and bridge the information gap in educational resources. Liu has been volunteering to teach across China. He remembered his time teaching in Inner Mongolia, where he observed that students’ preparation for the gaokao was one-dimensional. They were unaware that social activities and academic competitions could also contribute to gaining extra points. In Gansu, he found that many students had simple goals, focusing only on completing their coursework without considering the importance of long-term planning. “This is why, at House of Youth, we’ve created a lot of content that goes beyond textbook knowledge,” he said.
This summer, the three founders are all about to graduate and plan to hand over House of Youth to their junior schoolmates. They do not want to commercialize the account, they hope to pass it on and maintain its ecosystem of youth co-creation. “House of Youth is not just an account. It’s a platform, a belief,” said Zhang Boyu.
24. What can we know about House of Youth
A. It is an offline classroom.
B. It is a profitable project.
C. It has gained great popularity.
D. It will close down after the co-founders graduate.
25. Which of the following is closest in meaning to the underlined word in paragraph 2

B. To make themselves famous.

A. Lack of necessary equipment.

Late at night on Aug 4, many students in Singapore found themselves unable to access their applications and information stored on their iPads and tablets.
According to Singapore’s Ministry of Education, around 13,000 students from 26 secondary schools found that data on their devices were deleted. This was due to a cyber-attack on Mobile Guardian, an official app used in education in Singapore. The app helps parents manage their children’s use of their devices, limiting screen time and access to certain websites and apps. The ministry stated that all cloud backup information had been recovered by Aug 7.
This event has attracted attention to whether education has become too dependent on digital technology. “I’m very upset as (using electronic devices) distracts the boys unnecessarily” a parent whose son attends St Andrew’s Secondary School in Singapore said to The New Paper.
Singapore is not the only country finding that digital education may not be as good as people thought. Denmark is a country long known for pushing forward digital education. But in December 2023, Denmark published recommendations for screen time and the use of digital tools in upper secondary education, according to the official website of the European Commission. This move may be due to the fact that, in a 2022 assessment, Danish students’ performance in maths and reading saw a sharp fall, noted Capital, a German business publication. Experts then looked into the problem. They found that students in Denmark spent an average of 3.8 hours per day in front of electronic devices in school. A report published by the Danish National Institute of Public Health in January stated that students struggle to concentrate due to the amount of time spent on digital devices.
Similarly, in Sweden, experts have questioned whether the countrys’ digitalized system of education has caused students to become worse at important basic skills, such as reading and writing. An increasing number of schools are now focusing on printed books instead of tablets. “There’s clear scientific evidence that digital tools harm rather than enhance student learning,” Sweden’s Karolinska Institution stated in 2023. UNESCO also called for “appropriate use of technology in education”, warning countries that technology should never replace in-person teacher-led instruction.
28. What caused the problem for the students in Singapore
A. A hacking-in. B. A power-out.
C. Break-down of devices. D. An official ban.
29. Why did the Danish government restricts the screen time for secondary school students
A. To protect their health.
B. To push forward digital education.
C To reduce distractions from study.
D. To conserve the environment.
30. What is UNESCO’s attitude towards the use of digital learning
A. Objective. B. Negative.
C. Supportive. D. Unconcerned.
31. What is the main idea of the text
A. A new trend in education industry in Singapore.
B. Countries rethinking digital study.
C. Singapore’s education reforms.
D. Singapore students fail to access digital resources.

In April 2024, on the streets of Yizhuang, Beijing, a safety worker in a Baidu Robotaxi said, “Even though I’m sitting in the driver’s seat, my hands are not on the wheel.” This shows how much Baidu’s self-driving technology has improved.
Baidu’s autonomous driving journey began in 2013 when it set up its Institute of Deep Learning (DL). Baidu’s founder, Li Yanhong, once said he had never imagined Baidu would become so deeply connected to the automotive industry. However, as AI technology advanced, he realized that the automotive sector would be greatly changed by AI. This set the stage for Baidu’s commitment to autonomous driving.
In 2015, it launched its autonomous driving division. By 2017, Baidu introduced the Apollo Project, named after the historic moon landing mission. In 2019, Baidu secured 40 licenses to test self-driving vehicles carrying passengers on designated roads in Beijing. It secured permits to offer a fully driverless commercial robotaxi service in 2022 and launched a sixth-generation autonomous vehicle in 2024.
“Baidu’s strength in autonomous driving lies in its mapping technology, particularly its high-definition maps,” said Liu Xu, director of Baidu Intelligent Cloud. These maps help cars recognize road details, enabling precise navigation and safer driving. They also support advanced features like self-parking and centimeter-level positioning, which are key for autonomous vehicles to function effectively.
Although Baidu is a leader in the self-driving industry, its journey to the top has not been a smooth one. Since 2015, Baidu has put in over 150 billion yuan in research and development of self-driving cars, with yearly spending exceeding 20 billion yuan since 2021. Despite these efforts, achieving profitability remains a major challenge. Additionally, the growing market competition has negatively impacted the development of Baidu’s self-driving cars. Domestically, Baidu faces tough competition from rivals like Horizon, DJI Automotive, and Huawei. Globally, Tesla’s strong presence and brand influence add significant pressure on Baidu.
Looking ahead, Baidu sees great potential in China with strong government support and rapid infrastructure development. While the past decade has been filled with challenges, Baidu is now close to achieving large-scale commercialisation, with a promising future ahead, said Liu.
32. What led Baidu to develop autonomous driving
A. The development of technology.
B. Its founder’s ambition.
C. The need for expansion.
D. The country’s original mission.
33. What is Baidu’s advantage in autonomous driving
A. Li Yanhong’s leadership.
B. There being few competitors in this field.
C. It’s high-definition mapping technology.
D. The support from Chinese government.
34. What is the right order of the following events
a. Baidu launched a sixth-generation autonomous vehicle.
b. Baidu introduced the Apollo Project.
c. Baidu secured 40 licenses to test self-driving vehicles carrying passengers on designated roads in Beijing.
d. Baidu set up its Institute of Deep Learning (DL).
e. It secured permits to offer a fully driverless commercial robotaxi service.
A. dbcae B. dbcea.
C. dcabe. D. bdcea.
35. Which of the following statements is true
A. Baidu has struggled to make money from autonomous driving project.
B. Baidu has secured permits for self-driving cars to run in any city of China.
C. Baidu has spent 20 million yuan on autonomous driving since 2015.
D. Baidu has achieved large-scale commercialisation of autonomous technology.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Eva spent the first week of high school trying to keep her head above water. One of the major headaches for her was finding her way in the huge school building. It was a six-story building. On each floor, hallways stretched in four directions, learning to classrooms, laboratories and teachers’ offices. Somewhere in the building, there was also a library, a cafeteria and a gym.
Having a poor sense of direction, Eva found it impossible to get around in such a huge building. All the different hallways and rooms were too much to think about, let alone commit to memory. She decided that she would memorize where her classes were and then pretend that the rest of the place didn’t exist.
In her first PE class, Eva was shocked when Coach Pitt announced that everyone had to run one mile around the track outside. She searched the faces of her classmates for signs of panic. There was nothing she feared more than having to run a whole mile. To Eva, “a mile” was used to describe long distances. It was ten miles from her home to her grandfather’s, and that always seemed like a long way, even in a car!
When Coach Pitt blew his whistle (哨子), Eva figured she would be left in the dust. However, while some of her classmates edged ahead, others actually fell behind. “It’s just the beginning,” she thought. “I’ll come in last for sure.”
Soon Eva began to breathe hard, with her heart pounding and legs shaking. Feeling desperate, Eva started using a mind trick on herself. She stopped thinking about the word “mile”. Instead, she focused on reaching the shadow cast on the track by an oak tree up ahead. Then she concentrated on jogging to the spot where the trace curved (拐弯). After that, she tried to see if she could complete her first lap. One lap turned into two, then three, then four.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】One possible version:
Promoting Civil Language
There exists a phenomenon that many of my peers use curse words in their daily lives. It’s common to hear these words in casual conversations, whether at school or on social media.
I think people often use them to express strong emotions or to fit in with friends or because it has become a habit. Anyway, it is a disrespectful way of communicating. To reduce the use of curse words, we need to create a culture where people are encouraged to express themselves in more positive ways. This could start with schools promoting the importance of respectful communication. It also helps if we, as peers, set a good example by choosing our words carefully and not encouraging or laughing at cursing.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised.

【答案】参考范文
When Coach Pitt said “Nice work!” to her at the finish line, Eva was surprised. Never in her wildest dream had she imagined that she could achieve such an eye-catching score! Conquering this one mile was a milestone in her running career! Amazingly, Coach Pitts’ positive recognition installed an enormous sense of achievement into her heart. Enthusiastic cheers and thunderous applauses from her classmates kept her on the top of the world. Breathless and exhausted, she realized that overcoming seemingly the toughest challenges just needed a smart strategy like her mind trick. Her initial self-doubt gave way to self-confidence. Being a freshman, she tended to get lost in the 6-story maze, leaving her so helpless. Staring at the towering teaching building, Eva came up with a good idea, with a smile blooming across her face.
Eva decided to use the same trick to deal with the school building. No sooner had she returned to the confusing maze than she set out to explore the first floor. Convinced that her mind trick would locate her in the school as soon as possible, she came to a gym, which was well-equipped with various workout facilities. Next to the gym was a cafeteria, which provided a wide range of foods and drinks. As Eva walked back to her classroom, she noticed that she felt less overwhelmed by this huge complex. Time ticking away, Eva eventually got familiar with the vast maze in the way she finished the one-mile run. One lap at a time did work! So did one floor a week! It dawned on her that goals are easier to achieve in small steps.
