(2021·新高考Ⅰ卷·阅读理解B篇)By day, Robert Titterton is a lawyer. In his spare time though he goes on stage beside pianist Maria Raspopova — not as a musician but as her page turner. “I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.”
Mr Titterton is chairman of the Omega Ensemble but has been the group's official page turner for the past four years. His job is to sit beside the pianist and turn the pages of the score so the musician doesn't have to break the flow of sound by doing it themselves. He said he became just as nervous as those playing instruments on stage.
“A lot of skills are needed for the job. You have to make sure you don't turn two pages at once and make sure you find the repeats in the music when you have to go back to the right spot.” Mr Titterton explained.
Being a page turner requires plenty of practice. Some pieces of music can go for 40 minutes and require up to 50 page turns, including back turns for repeat passages. Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of “nodding” to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.
But like all performances, there are moments when things go wrong. “I was turning the page to get ready for the next page, but the draft wind from the turn caused the spare pages to fall off the stand,” Mr Titterton said, “Luckily I was able to catch them and put them back.”
Most page turners are piano students or up and coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
“My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life.”

根据第一段最后一句“I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.” 故选A。
根据第三段中的“A lot of skills are needed for the job.”和第四段中的“Being a page turner requires plenty of practice.”
根据第四段最后一句“Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of ‘nodding’ to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.”
根据最后一段中的“He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say:‘Turn, turn!’”

Most page turners are piano students or up- and -coming concert pianists, although Ms Raspopova has once asked her husband to help her out on stage.
“My husband is the worst page turner,” she laughed. “He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say: ‘Turn, turn!’ Robert is the best page turner I've had in my entire life.”
1.What should Titterton be able to do to be a page turner
A.Read music. B.Play the piano.
C.Sing songs. D.Fix the instruments.
根据第一段最后一句“I'm not a trained musician, but I've learnt to read music so I can help Maria in her performance.” 故选A。

2.Which of the following best describes Titterton's job on stage
A.Boring. B.Well -paid.
C.Demanding. D.Dangerous.

根据第三段中的“A lot of skills are needed for the job.”和第四段中的“Being a page turner requires plenty of practice.”
3.What does Titterton need to practise
A.Counting the pages.
B.Recognizing the “nodding”.
C.Catching falling objects.
D.Performing in his own style.

根据第四段最后一句“Silent onstage communication is key, and each pianist has their own style of ‘nodding’ to indicate a page turn which they need to practise with their page turner.”
4.Why is Ms Raspopova's husband “the worst page turner”?
A.He has very poor eyesight.
B.He ignores the audience.
C.He has no interest in music.
D.He forgets to do his job.

根据最后一段中的“He's absorbed in the music, feeling every note, and I have to say:‘Turn, turn!’”

(2025·南阳模拟)The Music Educator Award, presented by the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum, recognizes those who have made a significant contribution to music education. This year it went to Annie Ray, a teacher at Annandale High School in Fairfax County, Virginia. She was honored for her efforts to make music accessible to all students, particularly those with disabilities.
Ray attended the awards ceremony in Los Angeles, took photos with pop stars and brought home a $10,000 prize and matching grant (补助金) for her school's music program. But she considers the award to be her students'.
Ray loved music and was regarded as a music talent at an early age.She was inspired by the diversity of the Annandale community, which she says represents over 60 countries.
There are a lot of cultures that might typically clash (冲突), but they come together in this very beautiful harmony. So she created the Crescendo Orchestra for students with disabilities, as well as a parent orchestra that teaches nearly 200 caregivers a year to play the same instrument as their child.
The orchestra is about much more than just making music, however. It gives students a chance to develop their cooperation skills and learn the art of improving something.
“I really push my students to be bold, go out of their comfort zones, challenge themselves and become confident,” Ray said.“Meanwhile, they completely changed my educational approaches.I learn to teach them according to their own abilities and pace.”
At the Grammys, what impressed her was that many famous performers agreed that a good music educator can change one's life, which made her feel what she did was rewarding.
But she faces some challenges. One is that not many people understand how much music educators' work matters.Another challenge is resources. Her school desperately needs new instruments but lacks enough money.“It is a hard profession, but I never give up.There's nothing else like it,” Ray said.

“Just listening to music activates many regions of the brain at the same time.” Now, a growing body of scientific evidence shows that music can be medicine, too.
One study from the Centre for Music and Medicine followed a choir composed of Parkinson's patients to learn how singing might impact the speaking voice of those patients. After 12 weeks, the singers' speaking volumes which often fade as Parkinson's progresses grew demonstrably stronger.
The Rx4 Rhythm drumming circle, meanwhile, came out of a 2015 study that showed that Parkinson's patients had improved their ability to walk after six weeks of drumming practice.
In a review of 400 research papers looking into the neurochemistry of music, Daniel Levitin, a neuroscientist at McGill University, found that playing and listening to music had clear mental and physical health benefits, including improving our immune systems and reducing stress levels. It can also reduce the pain patients are suffering.
Studies show that music can _________memories and touch parts of the brain that other mediums cannot.Sometimes music can work like miracle. One day, the nursing team at Toronto's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre asked Sarah, a music therapist, if she could reach out to a patient who was unwilling to engage with staff or be part of any activities. Melody of Self -Discovery
[1] Sitting at the piano, Sarah was picturing her first piano performance in her mind, only to find herself lost in thought. The annoying doubt again crept into her mind. She just couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty within her.
What had driven her to take up piano lessons in the first place Was it simply a short- lived urge, or had she been passionate about music all along
[2] As her fingers idly traced the keys, Sarah reflected on her journey thus far. She remembered the excitement she felt when she first sat down at the piano, the thrill of producing her first few notes. But as the weeks passed and the lessons grew more challenging, doubts began to creep into her mind.
[3] “Sarah, do you have a clear goal in mind?” Mrs Thompson's words echoed in her memory. The gentle encouragement from her piano teacher only served to deepen Sarah's sense of unease. Did she genuinely love playing the piano What was she playing for And most importantly, did she truly have what it took to succeed in the world of music
[4] During her practice, Sarah found herself troubled with these questions, her fingers pausing and hesitating over the keys as her mind wandered. She couldn't help but compare herself to her classmates, who seemed to effortlessly master each new piece while she struggled to keep up.
[5] The weight of self- doubt grew heavier with each passing day, weakening her passion for music altogether. Deep down, Sarah knew that her love for the piano burned bright, even if it was dimmed by clouds of uncertainty.
[6] As Sarah sat at the piano, the answer to Mrs Thompson's question slowly became clear to her. With each practiced note, each perfected passage, she realized that she didn't just love playing the piano — she needed it. The music was a part of her, an expression of her deepest emotions and desires.
[7] Driven by this newfound clarity, Sarah threw herself into her practice tasks with renewed energy. Day after day, she poured her heart and soul into her music, determined to showcase her passion and talent to the world.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
As the day of her first public performance approached, Sarah grew more nervous once again.
As the final chords sounded loud and clear, Sarah held her breath, waiting for the audience's reaction.

4.选C 根据下文的“I did this myself and of my own free will for a week”可知,没人要求(required)作者这样做,他是自愿的。
5.选B 根据上文的“I worked my way through ... thrills of these musical notes”可知,作者专注于练习吉他,并体会到音符带来的无与伦比的兴奋。
6.选D 根据下文的“Fifty years later, that week's self directed practice ... I have done since.”
11.选C 根据上文的“the sense of happiness — true happiness ________ in absorption in something”可知,成就感指突然迸发的幸福感。 a sudden rush of happiness“突然感到的幸福”。
13.选C 根据上文的“Fifty years later ... every meaningful thing I have done since.”

Melody of Self Discovery
[1] Sitting at the piano, Sarah was picturing her first piano performance in her mind, only to find herself lost in thought. The annoying doubt again crept into her mind. She just couldn't shake the feeling of uncertainty within her. What had driven her to take up piano lessons in the first place Was it simply a short lived urge, or had she been passionate about music all along
[5] The weight of self doubt grew heavier with each passing day, weakening her passion for music altogether.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
As the day of her first public performance approached, Sarah grew more nervous once again.

(2025·长沙模拟)Rx4 Rhythm is one of the programs offered at the Johns Hopkins Centre for Music and Medicine in Baltimore. The program is the brainchild of Dr Alexander Pantelyat, a violin player. He is also a neurologist (神经科医生) who specializes in movement disorders like Parkinson's.Applying music therapy (疗法) to movement disorders is relatively new; previously, it was mainly used in cancer treatment. He explains,“Just listening to music activates many regions of the brain at the same time.” Now, a growing body of scientific evidence shows that music can be medicine, too.
Studies show that music can trigger memories and touch parts of the brain that other mediums cannot.Sometimes music can work like miracle. One day, the nursing team at Toronto's Princess Margaret Cancer Centre asked Sarah, a music therapist, if she could reach out to a patient who was unwilling to engage with staff or be part of any activities. As she started to play one piece of his favorite music on her keyboard, a change came over him.He unfolded his arms, turned towards Black and started to cry.He said through tears,“It was as if the music went places that nothing else could recall.” He shared afterwards that the music showed up at a moment when it felt like a hug.

A.To treat cancer using music therapy.
B.To help patients to appreciate music.
C.To treat Parkinson by activating the brain.
D.To treat movement disorders with the help of music.
6.How has the program affected Parkinson's patients
