(2025·江苏泰州·三模)Life is filled with regrets. Anyone around you will have no difficulty telling his regrets. As we get older, we look back and wish that we had made better choices. What can we do to avoid future regrets
Make better plans
It’s better for you to make a plan before you start to do something. The earlier, the better. You will know what comes first and what comes last. You’ll also know what you should do and what you shouldn’t do. When changes happen, you may have more time to deal with them.
Live a more active life
You can go around more often. More outdoor activities can relax yourself and make you active. You also need to be kind. “Thank you” can bring a smile to someone’s face. Learn to say “sorry” and don’t show your anger to others.
Find the right friend
A friend may make your life good and he or she can break your life as well, so you have to think twice when you choose a friend. Good friends will always be better than your ideas.
When you get into trouble, they are ready to offer you a helping hand, no matter how much time or energy this may take them. Their help may bring you good results.
Never fear failure
Everybody fails. Even the greatest person failed. We should not fear failure, because failure is common in everyone’s life and we can always learn something from failure.
Life is so wonderful. We don’t have to live in our past, but we do hope that we can plan better, live better, and work better when we have the chance to do so.

Young Heroes Protecting Our Planet
Although there are laws to protect our environment. We still face many challenges, such as climate change, plastic pollution, and desertification (沙漠化). But across China, young people are stepping up to find solutions. They are choosing unexpected paths, using new ideas to protect nature. They have made great efforts, showing that everyone can make a difference. Here are two of their stories.
Zhong Lin was born in Minqin county, Gansu province. He grew up seeing his hometown fighting desertification. After graduation in 2021, Zhong returned to his hometown to start a tree-planting business. His choice came with challenges. “There was a strong need for money,” Zhong said. “My parents didn’t understand, and my friends thought I was ‘being foolish’.” The work itself is hard, too. After a sandstorm in March this year, only a few dozen of the 500 newly planted trees survived.
But Zhong never gave up. His big moment came in 2024. He joined a popular TV show—Become a Farmer, planting trees with famous people. It quickly drew attention.
Since then, “Minqin Tree Planting” has become popular and attracted many young volunteers.
“Thinking only gives me problems, but doing brings answers,” he said.
Li Yanyan, a 20-year-old at Beijing Forestry University, is also a doer.
Last September, Li discovered that the glass buildings on campus harmed birds. She quickly gathered information and asked school leaders for help. Soon, special stickers were placed on dangerous windows. Her efforts have also inspired similar actions at other universities, including Peking University and Sun Yat-sen University in Guangdong.
“Humans and wildlife breathe the same air—so protecting nature is not a choice but a survival skill we all need to learn,” said Li.

The world’s oldest musical instruments are more than 40,000 years old. For thousands of years, humans have been making music for pleasure and to express themselves.
Recently, there has been a rise in the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to create music. AI makes music by analyzing (分析) many different songs, learning patterns and details, and then mixing pieces together in creative ways. Some AI music has become so popular that it has been shared widely online.
However, some people think using AI to create music isn’t truly original (原创的) or creative because it makes songs out of old music. What do you think Is AI bad for creativity
Yes—AI music isn’t creative.
Using AI might be cheaper than paying a musician. If companies can use AI to produce popular music that makes lots of money from people buying and listening to it, it could put musicians out of work. If musicians can’t earn money from music, there will be far fewer of them creating new songs. Anyway, listening to music that was made by a computer isn’t the same experience as listening to human-made music. When musicians create songs, they put real feelings and experiences into their work, which builds a deep connection with listeners through their music. Music produced by AI isn’t truly original, as it simply takes pieces from songs that have already been published. Therefore, it cannot be considered creative.
No—AI can help spark(激发) new ideas.
When people turn on their radio or headphones and a great new song comes on, it makes them feel good. A catchy tune (曲调) brings people together to sing and dance. If people are enjoying music, who cares whether it was made by a human or a machine Music makers already use computers, which help to perfect sound and mix different parts of a song. Like computers, AI can also help spark ideas. It won’t replace (取代) musicians but they can work with it. Building on music created by AI could save time. It could allow lots more music to be produced and it could lead to new and special styles of music. AI could create exciting tunes that humans could never have dreamed of.
Is AI bad for new music
Background Humans have a long 16 of creating music for fun and self-expression. But now, some people use AI to create music, which has caused a 17 about creativity.
Agreement AI music isn’t creative.● AI costs less than hiring a musician, so it could take 18 from real musicians. ● AI music seldom shares real feelings and experiences, so it’s 19 for it to connect with listeners than human music does. ● AI music takes pieces from old songs, which may 20 it from being creative.
Disagreement AI can help spark new ideas.● Whether the music is created by humans or AI doesn’t 21 if people enjoy it. ● AI can be also used as a 22 to spark new ideas. ● AI pushes music 23 human limits and opens up new ideas.
Further thinking ● What English skills can AI help you learn 24 ● How can it help 25

The boat arrived at a small town, and Legree and his slaves got off. Tom and the other men walked all the way to the plantation.
They stopped in front of a house. It was large, but it looked empty and uncomfortable, the glass of some windows was broken and there were bits of wood and boxes on the ground. Two slaves, Sambo and Quimbo, were Legree’s two main helpers on the plantation, and they arrived with dogs.
“Don’t try to run away,” said Legree to Tom and the others, “or the dogs will follow you.”

Norway is known for its citizens’ habit of picking up litter. From cities to hiking trails, Norwegians take pride in keeping their environment clean. But what drives this action Let’s explore the cultural, economic, and educational roots of Norway’s “clean-up mindset (思维模式)”.
Norwegians grow up with an idea called friluftsliv, which emphasizes (强调) a close connection to nature. With nearly 40% of Norway covered by mountains, forests, or coastline, outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and fishing are part of daily life. This connection makes a contribution to developing a sense of responsibility (责任) to protect natural spaces.
Norway’s recycling system turns litter into rewards. Since 2014, the country has operated a “Pant” system for plastic bottles and cans. When buying drinks, consumers (消费者) pay an extra 1-3 NOK (about $0.10—$0.30). Returning empty containers to reverse vending machines gives a refund (退款) or donation to charity. This system recovers 97% of plastic bottles, reducing litter while developing recycling habits.
Environmental training begins in kindergarten. Children learn to separate waste and join school clean-up days. A popular saying in Norwegian schools is: “There’s no such thing as ‘someone else’s rubbish.’”
Norway has anti-littering laws. Fines for dropping litter can reach 3,000 NOK ($300), but social manners matter more. Public shaming is rare, yet collective responsibility is strong. During Norway’s yearly community volunteer day, neighbors clean shared spaces together.
Norwegians don’t pick up litter just because it’s a rule—it’s a way of life shaped by love for nature, smart policies, and community spirit. Their actions remind us that environmental protection starts with personal choices.
Clean nature isn’t a gift; it’s a promise we make to each other.
Norway’s Clean-Up Culture
What Norwegians pick up 34 habitually, creating a clean country.
Why It’s a 35 of their love for nature, smart policies and community spirit.

Bridges are built over roads, rivers, or railways. They appeared a long time ago. Back then, they were built with stones, ropes, logs, and vines. The three main types of bridges are arch, beam and suspension. Let’s take a closer look at each one.
Arch (拱) bridges were invented a long time ago by the Romans. They were built out of stone or brick, and stood on support structures in the shape of arches. Beam (梁) bridges are horizontal (水平的) beams supported by columns (柱子). The columns take the weight of the people and vehicles passing on the beam. These bridges are very old as well, and people used stone and trees to build them. Suspension (悬索) bridges have a tower on either side. The towers are connected by cables (缆绳). They are more modern, with the first ones being built in the early 19th century.
The oldest bridge in the world is the Zhaozhou Bridge in China. It’s an arch bridge made out of stone that was built in 605 A.D.But if you’re looking for one of the most beautiful and famous bridges, it would be the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.
