(24·南通)It was a cool dark evening at the Fair Grounds. Wilbur, the pig, was lying in the straw (草), enjoying the moment after the heat (高温) of the day. Charlotte, the spider, was building a web. Templeton, the rat, suddenly smelled something nice in the air. He felt very hungry and thirsty. So he decided to go out and have a look.
“Bring me back a word!” Charlotte called after him. “I shall be writing tonight for the last time. ”Without answering Charlotte, the rat was out of sight soon.
In the bushes behind the barn (牲口棚) Templeton found a newspaper. Inside it were the leftovers from somebody’s lunch: a ham sandwich, a piece of cheese, and the core of an apple. He ate it up quickly. Then he tore (撕) a word out of the paper, rolled it up, and got back.
* Charlotte had her web almost (几乎) finished when Templeton returned. She had left a space in the middle of the web.
“I hope you brought back a good one, ”Charlotte said. “It’s the last word I shall weave (织).”
“Here,” said Templeton.
“What does it say ” asked Charlotte. “Read it for me, please.”
“It says ‘Humble,’ ” replied the rat.
“Humble ” said Charlotte. “Humble has two meanings. First, it means’ not proud’. Second, it means ‘near the ground’. That’s exactly what Wilbur is like. He’s modest and he’s near the ground.”
“Well, I hope you’re pleased,” said the rat. “I’m not going to spend all my time looking for what you need. I came to this Fair just to enjoy myself, not to be a messenger (信使) boy.”
“You’ve been very helpful,” Charlotte said. “Now go and enjoy yourself.”
After Templeton disappeared into the darkness, Charlotte went on with her work. When the Arables, the Zuckermans and Lurvy returned from work, Charlotte had finished her web already (已经). The word HUMBLE was woven in the center. But non e of them noticed it in the darkness.
“Time for us to go home,” Mr Arable said to Wilbur. “See you tomorrow.”
After the farmers left, Wilbur asked, “Where are you, Charlotte I can’t see you. Are you still on your web ”
“No, I’m back here, up in this back corner.”
“Charlotte, thank you for everything you do for me. Without you, I would feel lonely and homesick.” Wilbur said. After a while he asked, “Do you really think Zuckerman will let me live and not kill me when the cold season comes Do you really think so ”
“Of course,” said Charlotte. “You are a famous pig and you are a good pig. Tomorrow you will probably win a prize. The whole world will hear about you. Zuckerman will be proud and happy to own such a pig. You have nothing to worry about, Wilbur. Maybe you’ll Live forever—who knows And now, go to sleep.”

(24·南通)When you some back home on a hot summer night, you find that the lights are already on. The air condition has been working for thirty minutes to cool the room and the rice you prepared this morning has been cooked right before you arrive home. This is what a smart home can bring you today.
A smart home is a home where users can control (控制) household appliances like the TV, the fridge, the washing machine, the air conditioner and others from anywhere by using an Internet-connected (与网络相连的) mobile phone or networked devices (设备). Devices in a smart home are connected with each other through the Internet so that the user can control household appliances from far away.
Many users find their life more convenient (便利的) in a smart home. Mr Zhu, a smart home user from Suzhou, shared his experiences (体验) on his blog. He said that he usually gets off work late, so cooking used to be a big problem. But now cooked rice waits for him at home because he can turn on the rice cooker with his phone before he gets home. In summer, he usually, turns on the air conditioner thirty minutes ahead of time. He can also check the camera and do or any time to see whether he has locked the door or not. When his child was alone at home during the holidays, he used to worry about her safety. Now he can check if she is OK at home any time on the phone. His home also has a kitchen safety net, including smoke sensors, gas sensors and water sensors. And these devices are really smart. They come with self-learning skulls. If there’s any danger in the home when he is away, they can send a warning (警报) to his phone to remind (提醒) him to call the police or the firemen.
However, there’re still some problems with a smart home. First; though the advertisements (广告) of smart home devices usually say they are easy enough to install (安装), this doesn’t seem to be always true.. . ISO, some Apps connected with the smart home devices are so badly designed that users don’t know how to use them. What’s worse, every device has its own App. Users find it hard to do with so many Apps on the phone.
Anyway, though smart home technology still has a long way to go, it will certainly become more and more popular. After all, a smart home is a sweet home:

It’s a perfect day for sitting in a warm office, sending emails and surfing the net. It’s a perfect day for looking for new clothes in the warm shopping centre. But on the sports field of Westbourne High School, two football teams are running up and down, kicking (踢) a heavy wet football. It’s an important match—the semi-final (半决赛) of the girls’ football championship between Westbourne and New Milton.
THWACK!
The goalkeeper (守门员) kicks the football high into the air.
The team in red shirts run up the field, and the team in blue shirts run back.
A girl in a red shirt with black hair and brown eyes watches the ball carefully. She walks slowly into the centre circle.
BOING!
A girl in a blue shirt heads the ball. It flies up into the grey air.
BIFF!

“Go on Zadie!” her teammates (队友) shout.

But Zadie has an idea. Zadie kicks the ball to the girl’s left, and then runs to the girl’s right.
The tall girl is confused. She looks at the ball, and she looks at Zadie. She doesn’t know which way to move. So Zadie runs past her, and gets the ball on the other side!
