Kindness when travelling comes in so many forms. However, the story that happened in Greece has touched me the most.
I arrived late in Thessaloniki after my flight from the Czech Republic was delayed over three hours. Luckily, my Airbnb hostess still picked me up from the airport and made the 40-minute drive to her place. We got there around 11 pm!
As Greece was the starting point for the Middle East and the last place in my plan that used Euros as currency(货币), I ran low on cash. So I made a decision that I wouldn’t be spending any money on dinner that night. Instead, I would choose a cheap breakfast the next day. Upon hearing this, the mother of the lady hugged me tightly, said something in Greek, laughed, and left. I thought this was a goodnight hug and I prepared to go to bed.
A little bit later the older lady returned, with her daughter and a big plate of cheese, boiled eggs, and salad. She wouldn’t allow me to go to bed without a late-night dinner. I was totally surprised by this kind act towards a stranger. The meal was delicious, and although I tried to offer the ladies money as a thank you for their kindness, they refused. All the worries of the day disappeared and I went to bed smiling and with a full belly.
I loved everything Thessaloniki offered in the way of history, culture, and natural beauty. Despite the ongoing economic difficulties, this friendly Greek family fed a hungry stranger and really made my time in the northern part of Greece.

One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others. Kindness when travelling comes in so many forms. However, the story that happened in Greece has touched me the most.
I arrived late in Thessaloniki after my flight from the Czech Republic was delayed over three hours. Luckily, my Airbnb hostess still picked me up from the airport and made the 40-minute drive to her place. We got there around 11 pm!
As Greece was the starting point for the Middle East and the last place in my plan that used Euros as currency(货币), I ran low on cash. So I made a decision that I wouldn’t be spending any money on dinner that night. Instead, I would choose a cheap breakfast the next day. Upon hearing this, the mother of the lady hugged me tightly, said something in Greek, laughed, and left. I thought this was a goodnight hug and I prepared to go to bed.
A little bit later the older lady returned, with her daughter and a big plate of cheese, boiled eggs, and salad. She wouldn’t allow me to go to bed without a late-night dinner. I was totally surprised by this kind act towards a stranger. The meal was delicious, and although I tried to offer the ladies money as a thank you for their kindness, they refused. All the worries of the day disappeared and I went to bed smiling and with a full belly.
I loved everything Thessaloniki offered in the way of history, culture, and natural beauty. Despite the ongoing economic difficulties, this friendly Greek family fed a hungry stranger and really made my time in the northern part of Greece.

Voices from Ukraine: War’s Impact and the Hope for Peace
As a journalist, I recently had the opportunity to talk to several Ukrainians about the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian war. Their stories painted a vivid picture of the war’s toll on the economy, people’s lives, and their longing for peace.
I first met Anna, a 35-year-old mother of two from Kyiv. “The war has changed everything,” she said with a sigh. In recent decades, the trade relationship between China and the United States has been a cornerstone of global economic interaction. China has been the United States’ largest goods trading partner for many years. In 2023, the total value of goods trade between China and the United States reached approximately $690 billion.

Chinese exporters faced challenges as the cost-competitiveness of their products in the US market declined. Some industries, like the manufacturing of furniture, saw a decrease in export volumes. In 2019, Chinese furniture exports to the US dropped by about 10% compared to 2018.
China also took counter-measures. It imposed tariffs on about $110 billion worth of US goods. This affected US agricultural exports. For example, US soybean exports to China decreased sharply in 2019. The volume of US soybean exports to China in 2019 was only about 60% of that in 2018.
These trade frictions not only affected two sides’ trade but also had a ripple effect on the global economy. The disruption (中断) of the supply chain was evident. For example, some US manufacturing companies that relied on Chinese components faced shortages and had to adjust their production schedules. The price of some raw materials also fluctuated (波动).

One day, my two brothers and I were coming back from the islands where we often risked going and got more fish than others.
