Teach children the warning signs and signals in your area and practice what to do if a

Iceland lies in the North Atlantic Ocean. It lies between 63°24′ and 66°33′ N and between
13°30′ and 24°2′ W. It is the second largest island in Europe. It is close to the Arctic Circle(北极
圈)yet in fact only one of its northerly islands lies inside. The country has a total area of 103,000
square kilometers and a coastline of about 6,600 km. The island is 300 km wide from north to
south, and 500 km across from west to east.
From 1262 to 1944 Iceland was ruled first by Norway and then by Denmark. Centuries of
foreign rule, and such things as volcanoes(火山)and the weather, made life very difficult at times
for the Icelanders, there was lots of hard work and little change. The situation began to improve
during the nineteenth century. Then in 1944 Iceland became an independent republic(独立国家);
since that time it has become a quite rich country where the people enjoy having cars, modern
houses and lots of electrical equipment. If you look at the kind of products that Iceland sells to
other countries today—fish, meat, wool and so on—it’s easy to see that both the sea and the land
are important to Icelanders. This has been true in fact since the time of the first Icelanders—
Vikings from Norway who arrived in AD 874.
Some things in the lives of the Icelanders have hardly changed—the Icelandic language, for

Right now, the biggest source of energy(能源) in the world is fossil fuel(矿物燃料). Fossil
fuels are oil, gas, and coal (煤). More than 80 percent of the world’s energy comes from fossil
fuel. There are many problems with fossil fuel. One problem is that when fossil fuel is burned, it
pollutes the air. Also, when we take fossil fuel from the Earth, we often cause a lot of harm.
Another problem is that we’re running out of it.
A big source of energy for many countries is nuclear power(核能).Thirty-one countries use
nuclear power. A lot of ships also use it.
Nuclear power has some advantages(优点). First of all, we can’t run out of nuclear power.
Nuclear power does not make the air dirty. Also, if a country has nuclear power, it doesn’t need to
buy as much oil from other countries.
However, there are also a lot of problems that come with nuclear power. For example,
nuclear accidents are very serious. In 1986, there was a nuclear accident in Russia. In the next 20
试卷第 6 页,共 10 页
years, about 4,000 people got sick and died. In 2011 there was another very serious nuclear
accident in Japan. That was several years ago, but Japan is still trying to clean up the nuclear
waste from the accident.
Many people don’t want nuclear power in their countries. They say that it’s not safe. A lot
of people in the United States, Russia, France, Japan, India, and many other countries want their
countries to use safer and cleaner ways to get electricity(电力). Sometimes they get together to
show their strong disagreement with nuclear energy.
Many people hate nuclear energy, but more and more countries are using it. One reason for
this is that the world is using more and more energy. We just don’t have enough fossil fuel.
However, if we use nuclear power, then we may have more serious problems in the future.
32.In the second sentence of the fifth paragraph, what does the underlined word “it” mean
A.The country. B.Nuclear power. C.A person. D.The electricity.
33.What can we learn from the passage
A.Nuclear power is a kind of fossil fuels. B.There were no nuclear accidents in 1986.
C.Nuclear power is easy enough to make. D.People may run out of fossil fuel one day.
34.The following sentence would best be placed at the end of ________.“That’s why we need
new sources of energy.”
A.Paragraph 1 B.Paragraph 3 C.Paragraph 4 D.Paragraph 5
35.What would be the best title for the passage
A.A Safe Source of Energy B.The Best Energy Source in the World!
C.Everyone Loves Nuclear Power . D.We Should Only Use Fossil Fuels.

Communication has always been a necessary part of human life, allowing us to share
information, express feelings. 36 In ancient times, humans used symbols and drawings on
cave walls to tell stories and send messages. 37 As time went by, people developed
languages and words that allowed for more exact communication. The invention of paper and the
pen made it easier for people to write letters to each other, even if they were far away. This
method of communication was used for centuries.
However, the biggest changes came with the Industrial Revolution (工业革命) and later the

technological development. The telegraph (电 报 ) was invented in the 19th century. 38
This was followed by the telephone, which added the voice to long-distance communication,
making it more personal and real-time.
The late 20th and early 21st centuries have seen the most rapid development in
communication technology. Social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and WeChat have
created new ways for us to share our lives and thoughts with more people. 39
As technology continues to develop, it will be interesting to see how communication
methods further change the way we interact with the world around us.

In the next 20

accident in Japan. That was several years ago, but Japan is still trying to clean up the nuclear
waste from the accident.

of people in the United States, Russia, France, Japan, India, and many other countries want their
countries to use safer and cleaner ways to get electricity(电力). Sometimes they get together to
show their strong disagreement with nuclear energy.
Many people hate nuclear energy, but more and more countries are using it. One reason for

However, if we use nuclear power, then we may have more serious problems in the future.

A.Geographic distances are great problems.
B.This was the beginning of written communication.
C.Over the years, the ways we communicate have changed greatly.
