B.Choose the best answer and complete the passage
All living things need energy to survive. Humans get their energy by eating food, but it’s
65 for plants. Plants create their own food through the process of “photosynthesis (光合作
Plants take energy from the sun and use it to turn water and carbon dioxide into a type of
sugar. Through photosynthesis, plants not only create their own food, but they also 66
oxygen into the air. Photosynthesis is a complex process. First, the green coloring in leaves
(chlorophyll 叶绿素) gets light energy from the sun. The sun becomes an important part of the
process because it “ 67 ” the food for the plants. Similar to the way sunlight is taken into
the leaves, the plant also takes in carbon dioxide. From its 68 , the plant gets water from
the ground. The combination (组 合 ) of light, gas and water completes the process of
photosynthesis. Scientists believe that without plants, people would not be able to live. While
69 provide living things on Earth with oxygen, they also help balance the different gases in
the air, especially carbon dioxide. Humans and animals take in air and let out carbon dioxide.
Nature produces this gas in other ways. Without carbon dioxide, plants would be hungry.
70 , there is an important relationship between humans and plants. They both provide
something the other needs.

65.B 66.D 67.A 68.D 69.A 70.C
根据“Humans get
their energy by eating food, but it’s...for plants.”
根据“Through photosynthesis, plants not only
create their own food, but they also...oxygen into the air.”
根据“First, the green coloring in leaves (chlorophyll
叶绿素) gets light energy from the sun. The sun becomes an important part of the process because
it “...” the food for the plants.”
故选 A。
根据“From its...the plant gets water from the
ground.”
根据“While...provide living things on Earth
故选 A。
However 可是;Finally 最终;Therefore 因此;Suddenly 突然。根据上文“While...provide living
things on Earth with oxygen, they also help balance the different gases in the air, especially carbon
dioxide...Without carbon dioxide, plants would be hungry.”
“...there is an important relationship between humans and plants.”
是 therefore“因此”。故选 C。
C.Fill in the blanks with proper words(在短文的空格内填入适当的词,使其内容通顺。每

D.Answer the questions(根据短文内容回答下列问题)(12 分)
There are spicy food lovers all around the world. A lot of people desire to have spicy foods
in their daily life. In China, we love hot peppers (辣椒), fiery-hot chicken wings and we put spicy
seasonings (调味品) on top of just about everything. Thankfully, spicy foods are generally good
for us. They do more than add flavor (调味) to your favourite meals.
Spicy foods are good for your heart. People who regularly eat foods rich in spice are less
likely to experience a heart attack or stroke (中 风 ). Chili peppers provides three times more
vitamin C than oranges. The unique chili pepper heat comes from a component called capsaicin
(辣椒素) which helps lower cholesterol (胆固醇) and reduces inflammation (炎症). Spicy foods
also help prevent cancer. Capsaicin has been found to kill some cancer cells, according to the
American Association for Cancer Research. Turmeric (姜黄), which is the main spice in curry, has
been shown to help slow down the spread of certain cancer cells.
Spicy foods can even help you lose weight. After eating something spicy, you burn more
calories than if you were to have eaten something bland (清淡). Also, studies show that spicy
foods leave you feeling more satisfied than their non-spicy eaters. This means you’re more likely
to stick to your diet and not overeat. Try adding some hot sauce to your next meal and see if you
notice a difference.
Spicy foods also have other benefits. They can lighten your mood, making you feel happier.
In addition, they can fight symptoms of the common cold by helping you work up a sweat. In fact,
“spicy” is a burning feeling that you have on the surface of your tongue. That some people can
stand spicy food is because their tongues have become less sensitive to it. If you cannot handle the
fiery heat, try to build up a tolerance (耐受力) gradually. Drinking milk or other milk drinks such
as yogurt can “coat your tongue” and help you cool down after a spicy meal.
If you happen to be a spicy food lover, congratulations! Don’t hesitate to include spicy
foods in your balanced diet!

Architect Chris Hardie was stopped by a grandpa at the Shanghai Library East Branch (上
“You look familiar,” the grandpa, holding a c 71 , asked in English. “Oh,
are you the architect ”
The library in Pudong first opened its doors to the public last September. It q 72
became a new landmark in the city. The grandpa wasn’t the only one who was there to take
pictures. Some had already visited it several times to do so. “I’m happy to see that,” said Hardie,
the library’s architect.
Hardie says libraries are his f 73 public buildings. “If you go to a theater, you can
watch plays. If you go to a gallery, it has exhibitions. Libraries have it all,” he explains. A modern
library is much more than just a r 74 space.”
Modern libraries, according to Hardie, should help to connect people together. That means
that they should contain more spaces for events l 75 exhibitions and performances, or
simply for people to relax.
Hardie has designed many libraries around the world. However, this project in Shanghai is s
76 to him. That’s because the Scottish-born architect has been living in the city for more
than ten years now. He c 77 Shanghai to be his home city and has made many friends
here. When designing the library, he was aware that these friends, as well as his two children and
their friends, would all come to visit it.
And to Hardie’s joy, his job seems to have gone down well with the local community.
