The baguette,a long, thin French bread,is being added to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage(ICH,非物质文化遗产) list.UNESCO experts gathering in Morocco this week decided that the simple French bread—made only of flour, water, salt, and yeast—was worth U.N.recognition,after France’s culture ministry warned of a “continuous drop” in the number of traditional bakeries(烘焙坊),with some 400 closing every year over the past half century.
The UN cultural agency’s chief,Audrey Azoulay said,“The decision honors more than just bread;it recognizes the ‘graceful skills of bakers’ and ‘a daily ritual(仪式)’.” Azoulay added,“It is important that such baking knowledge and social practices can continue to exist in the future.”
With the bread’s new status(地位),the French government said it planned to create a baguette day, called the “Open Bake House Day”,to connect the French better with their heritage.Bakers in France seemed proud,if unsurprised.“Of course,it should be on the list because the baguette symbolizes the world. It’s universal,” said Asma Farhat,a baker at Julien’s Bakery.“If there’s no baguette, you can’t have a proper meal.In the morning you can toast it,for lunch it’s a sandwich, and then it accompanies dinner.”
Despite the decline in traditional bakery numbers,France’s 67 million people still buy baguettes at a variety of sales points, including in supermarkets.According to France’s “Bread Observatory”,the French eat 320 baguettes of one form or another every second. The problem is,observers say, that they can often be poor in quality.“It’s very easy to get bad baguette in France. It’s the traditional baguette from the traditional bakery that is in danger. It’s about quality not quantity,” said one local resident,Marine Fourchier.
24.Why did UNESCO decide to add the French bread to UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list
A.Because it has a long history.
B.Because it is made of simple materials.
C.Because it is in danger of disappearing.
D.Because it is made in traditional bakeries.

A.He felt honored. B.His attitude was unclear.
C.He thought it was embarrassing. D.He thought it was meaningful.
26.What can we learn from Asma Farhat’s words
A.Baguettes should be served all the day.
B.Baguettes are common in the French diet.
C.Baguettes should have been put on the list earlier.
D.Baguettes and sandwiches are equally important.
27.What can be a proper title for this article
A.The baguette—a cultural heritage that is of poor quality.
B.Protecting the baguette—everyone can make a difference.

In an amusing atmosphere at a historical palace in the Sayeda Zeinab neighborhood of the Egyptian capital Cairo,a large audience of different ages interacted lively during an Aragoz show, the traditional Egyptian hand puppet(木偶) performance. The three-day event was meant to shed light on Aragoz as a unique art performance, give people a chance to see the beauty of puppet shows, and save the art that faces the danger of extinction.
Aragoz is a classic form of Egyptian theater art using traditional hand puppetry.During the performances, puppeteers remain hidden inside a small portable(便携式的) stage while an assistant interacts with the puppets and the crowd. It takes its name from the main puppet, whose unique voice is created with a voice modifier(修改器).Performers and the audience interact throughout the show, which creates a comic and entertaining atmosphere, and practitioners must be skilled in controlling the puppets.
The art used to be presented by traveling performers, who moved from one folk celebration to another. However,as these performances began to decline(衰退),performers and their assistants settled permanently(永久地) in fixed places. The number of surviving practitioners has decreased, while many of those who once-performed stories have now disappeared. Many people see the need of protecting the Aragoz shows, explaining that it’s not only an important traditional cultural heritage in the country, but also serves to entertain the public, especially the children.
“The audiences were enjoying our shows. Many of them only saw Aragoz on TV and in movies, while those who saw live Aragoz performances recalled childhood memories,” said Bahgat,a professor of theater at Helwan University.“We are now in the era of technology and direct communication has become limited,so I see that we have an opportunity to spread this art again because virtual social media could not make up for the human need to watch such live shows,” he stressed.

D.An increase in the number of surviving practitioners.
35.What is Bahgat’s attitude to the future of the live Aragoz performance

“Come on,Holden!Let’s go!Let’s go!” Andrew said anxiously. They picked up the cans and ran away.Holden thought it was lucky that no one discovered what he had done.An hour later,he passed by the basketball court alone and saw the school’s old cleaner Flex was cleaning the paint up.And he heard the principal(校长) talking with the cleaner.
“We have a meeting here tomorrow. This needs to be cleaned up immediately!” the principal told the poor old man,who was hanging his head and trying hard to clean up the mess. However, the paint was oil-based,and a large area of the floor was covered with paint;cleaning it was clearly a very difficult task.
But Flex replied he’d make sure it was ready for the next day and kept cleaning, with sweat(汗) flowing down his face. Before he left, the principal reminded Flex,“By the way, please don’t forget to cut the grass around the basketball court today.”
Holden felt terrible while watching the old man trying to make up for his mistake. But he decided to turn a blind eye to it.However,on his way home, the picture of the old man struggling to deal with his mess kept coming to his mind.It made Holden so regretful.

写作
第一节
Dear Chris,
Glad to receive your e-mail.Knowing you are interested in Chinese relics,I feel it an honor to introduce the Great Wall to you.
The Great Wall stands out from the other relics for its historical value and beauty.Built and rebuilt in different dynasties,it served as a great defense work, which could protect people from being attacked by other nationalities living in the northern part of China.Nowadays its grandness still attracts eyes of the world,as it climbs over mountains from the east to the west, extending itself for more than 21,000 kilometers.
Chinese poets like to compare the Great Wall to the backbone of Chinese which shows its place in Chinese hearts. There is also a famous saying:He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.The Great Wall is not a building, but a cultural symbol.
For further information of Chinese cultural relics, don’t hesitate to ask me.
Yours,
Li Hua

Then Holden told Flex,“Let me help you cut the grass in return for your help!” Mr Flex refused. However,Holden kept saying that he needed to make up for his mistake. Then they worked together again.Although it was tiring,Holden carefully helped cut the grass. Finally, they completed the work before sunset. When they parted,Flex praised Holden for his honesty and hard work.Holden happily returned home and told his mom what had happened. His mom hugged him, telling him it was right to be responsible for his mistake.
