I’m a 21-year-old Latin-American born and raised in Illinois. Growing up, I never felt close to my Salvadoran heritage. Most of the Hispanic (说西班牙语的) kids I knew were Mexican, and the way that many of them seemed so proud of their culture and heritage seemed almost foreign to me. I always lamented the lack of connection that I felt to my roots, and this feeling never disappeared until I was 18 years old, when I went on my first trip abroad.
My father and I went to El Salvador, and what I remember the most was how it seemed like a whole different world to the both of us. Though he had grown up there, my father had not been in the country since before I was born. I remember him telling me, “When I was your age, living here, if you had a car, you were like a celebrity. And now, there’s traffic!”
What attracted me the most were the things that my father said hadn’t changed. Practically everybody greeted each other on the street and wished others a good morning. There was a type of togetherness there that I’d never really gotten to experience before. I even saw a different, less severe and more generous side of my father as he struck up friendly conversation with strangers and bought from the children selling fruits on the street side. My father had grown up doing the same thing, in an El Salvador that was in a far rougher shape than the one in which we found ourselves.
Never before had I been so proud to be a Salvadoran-American as when I’d come back from that trip, skin extra-tanned from the dazzling sun and a belly that had more than its fair share of delicious food there. But I’d brought back something that was better than any souvenir: a sense of cultural identity that was formerly missing. I wasn’t just Latino, I was Salvadore o. I’ve only revisited once since then, but I hope to again as soon as I can.
24.What does the underlined word “lament” in Paragraph 1 mean
A.Doubt. B.Ignore. C.Regret. D.Value.
25.According to the text, what has remained unchanged about El Salvador
A.The seriousness of his father. B.The development of society.
C.The popularity of cars. D.The friendliness of locals.
26.What do we know about the author
A.His was never pride of being a Latino.
B.He couldn’t speak fluent Spanish before the trip.
C.His cultural identity has been shaped after the trip.
D.He felt shameful about being a Salvadoran before the trip.
27.What does the text mainly talk about
A.Find the beauty from our inner selves. B.To experience is to build connections.
C.Understanding is the key to cultural respect. D.Multi-culture is the real culture of the world.
It happens every spring. As the flowers blossom, bringing color and fragrance back into our lives, Beijing’s air fills with fluffy (绒毛般的) white invaders: airborne seed hairs coming from the hundreds of thousands of female poplars (杨树) and willows planted around the city.
Jokingly referred to as “snow in April”, this annual invasion is an annoyance to walkers, cyclists, and scooter riders, largely because it finds its way up nostrils (鼻孔), and into mouths and eyes. To some people, it even causes allergic reactions. And it is also easy to catch fire, so needs sweeping away to avoid unfortunate encounters with cigarette butts.
So, why did people plant so many of them in the capital city considering its obvious drawbacks According to the Beijing Meteorological Observatory, there were an average of 26 days of dusty springtime weather in the 1950s. As part of the national effort to reforest, a green belt was in urgent need. Poplars and willows were chosen for their resistance to cold, drought and pests. As they also require relatively little care and even less watering, they were the ideal choice for the city. By the time authorities realized they weren’t the right choice, too many had been planted along streets or squares, hard surfaces where the seed hairs accumulate, only to be lifted into the air by passing cars or gusts of wind.
Luckily, two solutions have been found. The first is a kind of birth control, which is administered in the form of an injection, which, like the flu vaccine, must be renewed yearly. It prevents female trees from producing seed hairs, but isn’t cheap, although it does result in the funny view of bottles fixed, IV-style, to trunks. The other one is Sterilization, which involves removing the upper branches of a female tree and grafting (嫁接) male branches in their place, is even more expensive. Consequently, neither approach has been widely used apart from around sensitive areas like hospitals, kindergartens and schools.
Poplars and willows are still being planted. They are, after all, hardy and do an excellent job of absorbing CO2, cooling the streets, and providing green relief, but female trees have been banned since 2015. Hopefully, as their numbers decrease, so will the April Snows.
28.Which problem do the white invaders bring about
A.Health risks. B.Road accidents.
C.Air pollution. D.Dusty springtime weather.
29.What’s paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The past weather conditions of Beijing.
B.The pros and cons of poplars and willows.
C.The reason for planting poplars and willows in Beijing.
D.The reason why poplars and willows are not the suitable choices for Beijing.
30.What can we know about the two solutions according to the text
A.Birth control is cost-effective. B.Sterilization needs update every year.
C.Both of the two aren’t adopted in Beijing. D.Both Birth and Sterilization work but costly.
31.Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.”April Snow” in Beijing: A Beautiful Suffering.
B.The Battle Against Poplar and Willow Allergies.
C.Why Beijing’s Trees Cause Springtime Problems.
D.The Fluffy Invaders: Beijing’s Tree Dilemma.
A system that restores communication between the brain and spine has enabled a man paralyzed by a spinal cord injury to regain near natural walking ability.
A biking accident 11 years ago left 40-year-old Gert-Jan Oskam paralyzed, with an incomplete spinal cord injury. Five years later, he enrolled in a clinical trial, after which he regained the ability to step with a walker, but he had difficulty starting and stopping, and could walk only over flat surfaces.
“Using the walker for three years, he hit a plateau in his former recovery, and he was interested in something new,” says Grégoire Courtine, a neuroscientist at the cole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne in Switzerland. “So he became our first test pilot.”
The new study aimed to hand control over to Oskam’s brain. Courtine and colleagues added a brain implant to create a system that translates thought into movement. Two electrode arrays (数组) that sit on the surface of the brain record activity from the sensorimotor cortex (感觉运动皮层), a region of the brain that helps direct muscle movements. These signals are sent wirelessly to a processing unit that converts them into stimulation patterns, which are transmitted to the spinal cord implant.
After implantation, Courtine and colleagues asked Oskam to attempt leg joint movements while they analyzed his brain activity. They found it indeed allowed mapping brain signals to intended movements. The researchers also calibrated (校准) the system so that Oskam could control the amount of movement and adapt his foot placement and even climb staircases.
It has been two years, and the brain implant has remained stable and reliable. The extent of Oskam’s recovery delivered quality of life boosts, such as moving around the house independently, or standing at a bar drinking with friends. “That’s the goal of almost all the people who are paralyzed,” says V. Reggie Edgerton, a physiologist at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, Calif., who was not involved in the study. “To be standing at a bar, looking people eye to eye.”
The researchers think the approach will work for other patients, but caution that the extent of recovery may depend on the severity of injury. “You have to be careful to calibrate expectations,” Courtine says. “but I’m confident we can reproduce the same outcome, especially in individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury.”
32.Which is the key to the new system
A.Electrode arrays. B.The sensorimotor cortex.
C.The processing unit. D.The brain and spinal cord implants.
33.What does the underlined expression in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Got tired. B.Lost heart.
C.Made a full recovery. D.Couldn’t make any progress.
34.What may the paralyzed prioritize according to V. Reggie Edgerton
A.Living a normal life.
B.Moving around independently.
C.Hanging out with their friends.
D.Having face-to-face communications with others.
35.What is the author’s overall attitude toward the new technology
A.Cautiously optimistic B.Strongly skeptical
C.Completely neutral D.Overly enthusiastic
Volunteering at a library probably isn’t how most high school students want to spend their free time. As many schools have made community service hours a graduation requirement, school districts hope that students pick up a few more things other than a number on their report cards. 36 Should completing volunteer work still be considered volunteering even though it’s required
According to Amber Han, “Community service gives students the opportunity to be exposed to communities that need help.” Some students coming from well-off communities may have never actually seen others struggle. 37 By exposing them to the realities of other people’s lives, students are more likely to be open-minded and considerate of others’ conditions.
Students can also use volunteering as an opportunity to use their knowledge from school. For students taking environmental classes, community service events like beach cleanups allow them to have hands-on experience with what they learn in school. Not only can they use their knowledge while volunteering, but they can also explore career paths they may have an interest in. 38
Apart from gaining exposure to different communities and using their knowledge, volunteers can gain communication and leadership skills. Rebecca Kam added that through volunteering, she had the chance to work with her partners and take leadership. 39 If volunteers enjoy the work they are doing and the organization wants workers with their skill set, they may be offered a job.
40 While completing volunteer hours as a requirement seems insincere, the benefits make community service rewarding for both volunteers and their community.
A.Students from poor families take on responsibilities earlier
B.Without the requirement, they may never seek such chances.
C.But forcing students to volunteer is not genuine community help.
D.After all, having a passion for a career doesn’t ensure persistence.
E.Personally, I volunteer at a hospital for pre-career medical exposure.
F.Schools should educate students and prepare them to be good citizens.
G.These skills help students land part-time jobs and enter the workforce.

By morning, Jack knew what he had to do. He had not slept a wink but had sat on the balcony all night thinking. He stretched his stiff (僵硬的) body and went back to his room. His brother Jerry was still asleep.
It was Saturday and there was no school. Jack’s mother asked him to run some errands for her. On his way out, he glanced at his motorcycle which was parked at the side of the house. There was no hiding the broken front lamp and the dent (凹痕) and scratches (划痕) on the side. Jack readied himself and went to complete his errands.
It was late morning before Jack was free to carry out his plan. He marched down the road to Mr Brown’s house. When he arrived and called out the usual greeting, Mrs Brown appeared at the doorway and greeted him warmly. She invited him in and served him tea and some cakes. Jack nervously asked to speak to Mr Brown. She told him that her husband was out but would be home very soon. Sure enough, the elderly man returned in 10 minutes.
Jack cleared his throat a few times while his host waited patiently. Finally, he let out that he had come to make an apology. “I’m so sorry. I was careless yesterday and hit your parked car in front of the post office,” Jack said.
Mr Brown looked at the 17-year-old, surprised. “So, are you saying that you are the one who dented my car and then ran away ”
Jack turned red. He nodded. “I’m sorry for not telling you earlier. I was too frightened.”
The elderly man smiled and said, “But you’re not too frightened to confess now ”
Jack said, “I could not sleep last night thinking about it. I knew I had to do the right thing.”

M: Welcome to our lecture today on biology, focusing specifically on animal behavior. An interesting aspect of animal behavior is the difference observed when animals are kept in zoos as opposed to their natural habitats. In zoos, animals face fewer direct survival challenges, such as the need to hunt for food or hide from other animals that might want to hurt them. This gives them more time to do other things. For example, monkeys in zoos often spend more time resting and playing since they always have enough food provided by the zookeepers. Also, even though zoos try to make the living areas look like the wild, it’s still different. So, animals start doing new things they wouldn’t do in the wild. For instance, in the wild, female monkeys have a lot of space and don’t need to be very close to others. But in zoos, because they live closer to each other, they become more friendly and clean each other’s fur.

根据划线词上文“Most of the Hispanic (说西班牙语的) kids I knew were Mexican, and the way that many of them seemed so proud of their culture and heritage seemed almost foreign to me.(我所认识的大多数说西班牙语的孩子都是墨西哥人,而他们中很多人似乎对自己的文化和传统感到无比自豪,这对我来说却显得很陌生)”以及下文“the lack of connection that I felt to my roots(我和我的根缺乏联系)”可推知,作者一直为与自己根源之间的这种疏离感而感到遗憾,故划线词意思是“遗憾”。故选C。
根据第三段“What attracted me the most were the things that my father said hadn’t changed. Practically everybody greeted each other on the street and wished others a good morning. There was a type of togetherness there that I’d never really gotten to experience before. I even saw a different, less severe and more generous side of my father as he struck up friendly conversation with strangers and bought from the children selling fruits on the street side. My father had grown up doing the same thing, in an El Salvador that was in a far rougher shape than the one in which we found ourselves.(最让我感动的是父亲所说的那些没有改变的事情。
根据最后一段中“But I’d brought back something that was better than any souvenir: a sense of cultural identity that was formerly missing. I wasn’t just Latino, I was Salvadore o.(但我带回的不仅仅是任何纪念品所能代表的东西:一种曾经缺失的文化认同感。我不仅仅是拉丁裔,我是萨尔瓦多人)”可知,作者在这次旅行之后确立了自己的文化身份。故选C。
27.主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Never before had I been so proud to be a Salvadoran-American as when I’d come back from that trip, skin extra-tanned from the dazzling sun and a belly that had more than its fair share of delicious food there.(那次旅行结束后,当我回到美国时,我感到自己作为一名萨尔瓦多裔美国人是如此的自豪,我的皮肤因强烈的阳光而变得格外黝黑,肚子里也填满了当地美味的食物)”结合全文内容可知,全文围绕作者通过旅行体验建立与萨尔瓦多文化的联系展开,从“缺乏归属感”到“找到文化认同”,体现“体验促成联结” 的主题。因此,B选项“To experience is to build connections.(体验就是建立联系)”最能概括文章的主旨大意。

根据第二段“To some people, it even causes allergic reactions.(对一些人来说,它甚至会引起过敏反应。)” 故选A项。
根据第三段“Why did people plant so many of them in the capital city considering its obvious drawbacks Poplars and willows were chosen for their resistance to cold, drought and pests. As they also require relatively little care and even less watering, they were the ideal choice for the city.(考虑到其明显的缺点,为什么人们还在首都种植这么多呢?杨树和柳树因其抗寒、抗旱和抗病虫害而被选中。由于它们也需要相对较少的护理甚至更少的浇水,它们是城市的理想选择。)”可知,该段主要解释北京种植杨树柳树的原因。故选C项。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段“The first is a kind of birth control, which is administered in the form of an injection, which, like the flu vaccine, must be renewed yearly.

根据第四段中“The new study aimed to hand control over to Oskam’s brain. Courtine and colleagues added a brain implant to create a system that translates thought into movement. (这项新研究旨在将控制权交给Oskam的大脑。Courtine和他的同事们添加了一个大脑植入物,以创建一个将思想转化为行动的系统。)”以及“These signals are sent wirelessly to a processing unit that converts them into stimulation patterns, which are transmitted to the spinal cord implant. (这些信号被无线发送到一个处理单元,该单元将它们转换为刺激模式,然后传输到脊髓植入物。)”可知,新系统的关键在于大脑和脊髓植入物,它们共同协作,将大脑的思想转化为脊髓的刺激模式,从而实现运动。故选D项。
33.词句猜测题。根据第三段中划线词组所在句“Using the walker for three years, he hit a plateau in his former recovery, and he was interested in something new (使用助行器三年后,他在之前的康复过程中……,他对新事物产生了兴趣)”可知,Oskam在使用助行器三年后,他的恢复情况遇到了瓶颈,即无法再取得进一步的进步。
根据第六段中“The extent of Oskam’s recovery delivered quality of life boosts, such as moving around the house independently, or standing at a bar drinking with friends. “That’s the goal of almost all the people who are paralyzed,” says V. Reggie Edgerton, a physiologist at Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center in Downey, Calif., who was not involved in the study. 故选A项。
根据最后一段“The researchers think the approach will work for other patients, but caution that the extent of recovery may depend on the severity of injury. “You have to be careful to calibrate expectations,” Courtine says. “but I’m confident we can reproduce the same outcome, especially in individuals with incomplete spinal cord injury.” 故选A项。

36.上文“As many schools have made community service hours a graduation requirement, school districts hope that students pick up a few more things other than a number on their report cards.(由于许多学校将社区服务时长设为毕业要求,学区希望学生除了成绩单上的数字之外,还能学到一些其他东西。)” 提到学校将社区服务设为毕业要求;而下文“Should completing volunteer work still be considered volunteering even though it’s required (即使是被要求完成的志愿工作,是否仍应被视为志愿服务呢?)” C“But forcing students to volunteer is not genuine community help.(但强迫学生做志愿并非真正的社区帮助。)”
37.上文“Some students coming from well-off communities may have never actually seen others struggle.(一些来自富裕社区的学生可能从未真正见过他人的生活艰辛。)” B“Without the requirement, they may never seek such chances.(没有这项要求,他们可能永远不会寻求这样的机会。)”
38.根据上文“Students can also use volunteering as an opportunity to use their knowledge from school. For students taking environmental classes, community service events like beach cleanups allow them to have hands-on experience with what they learn in school. Not only can they use their knowledge while volunteering, but they can also explore career paths they may have an interest in.(学生还可以将志愿活动作为运用学校知识的机会。对于选修环境课程的学生来说,像海滩清洁这样的社区服务活动能让他们将课堂所学付诸实践。他们不仅能在志愿服务中运用知识,还能探索自己可能感兴趣的职业道路。)”可知,本段围绕利用学校知识探索职业路径展开,并且举了一些他人的例子进行说明。选项E“Personally, I volunteer at a hospital for pre-career medical exposure.(我个人在医院做志愿,以提前接触医疗职业。)”
39.上文“Apart from gaining exposure to different communities and using their knowledge, volunteers can gain communication and leadership skills. Rebecca Kam added that through volunteering, she had the chance to work with her partners and take leadership.(除了接触不同社区和运用知识外,志愿者还能获得沟通和领导技能。Rebecca Kam补充说,通过志愿服务,她有机会与合作伙伴合作并承担领导角色。)”提到志愿活动可培养沟通和领导技能。选项G“These skills help students land part-time jobs and enter the workforce.(这些技能帮助学生找到兼职工作并进入职场。)”
40.下文“While completing volunteer hours as a requirement seems insincere, the benefits make community service rewarding for both volunteers and their community.(尽管将完成志愿时长作为要求看似不够真诚,但这些益处让社区服务对志愿者和他们的社区来说都是有价值的。)” F“Schools should educate students and prepare them to be good citizens.(学校应教育学生并培养他们成为好公民。)”

故填is making。
根据“isn’t just a single piece”和“a group working in harmony”及语意可知,此处为“not just/only…but (also)…” 故填but。
故填against。
“the chance to do sth.” 故填to survive。
故填is traced。
故填Having been interested/Interested。
根据“the primary purpose of the Strandbeests has changed over time”和“their attractive movement and complex design continue to amaze observers”可知,前后句是让步转折关系,所以可以用“while/though/although”引导让步状语从句,且位于句首,首字母需大写。故填While/Though/Although。
故填a。
66.Does AI Creation Have Artistic Value
I’ve been following this discussion with great interest. Al has been widely used in artistic creation, from painting and music composition to poetry and even film production. These Al-generated works often impress audiences with their complexity and creativity.
However, I believe AI creations have artistic value but lack the emotional depth of human expression. Art is not just about patterns and aesthetics; it reflects personal experiences, emotions and cultural backgrounds. While AI can mimic styles and generate impressive pieces, it does not create with intent or personal insight.
All in all, AI can be a powerful tool for artists but cannot replace human creativity. No matter how technology progresses, mankind will always be unique in the field of art.
“You think it right to cover up for your brother ”Mr Brown asked in a kind voice. Jack went pale. “I ... I... you know the truth ” he mumbled. Mr Brown smiled, “Yes, Jerry told me himself just half an hour ago.” The elderly man explained that Jerry had met him at the cafe and told him everything: how he had ridden his brother’s motorcycle without permission and lost control of it, resulting in the minor accident that dented Mr Brown’s new car.
Jack now looked curiously at the elderly man, “Will my brother be arrested ” “Ah, I see, you are trying to protect your brother. No, I will not be reporting the accident. It’s just a small dent.” Seeing Jack’s relieved expression, he went on, “However, I hope that your brother will learn from this. As for you, remember that it is unwise to hide the truth.” Jack thanked Mr Brown for his kindness and then went home happily. His brother’s courage in confessing everything made him happy and proud. He knew he could sleep well tonight.
