Dear Mike,
I’m sorry to know that you feel weak and often fall ill. Here, I’m writing to give you
some advice.
First, you should have a balanced diet and enjoy breakfast every day. Additionally, it is
of equal importance to take exercise regularly, which not only contributes to strengthening
your bodies but also rids you of the stress from study. Most importantly, have enough sleep
instead of staying up too late.
I’d be more than glad if my advice would be adopted and I sincerely hope that you can
live a healthy life.
Yours,
Li Hua

Mia grabbed Lucy’s hand and smiled warmly. “You’ve come this far, Lucy. You have to
see how amazing your work is!” she said. Reluctantly, Lucy agreed, and they headed to the
art fair together. When they arrived, Lucy spotted her painting displayed among the others. A
small crowd had gathered around it, admiring the vibrant colors and the peaceful feeling it
conveyed. “Who painted this ” someone asked. Before Lucy could react, Mia proudly said,
“She did!” and gently pushed Lucy forward.
Lucy stood before her painting at the fair, her heart pounding. People smiled at her and
praised her work. “It’s beautiful!” a woman said. “You have real talent.” Hearing those words,

Lucy felt her fear melt away, replaced by a warm sense of pride. She glanced at Mia, who
gave her a thumbs-up. At that moment, Lucy realized she could chase her dream — and that
she wasn’t alone.

2. M: Good morning, e in. What can I do for you
W: Well. I’m having difficulty in sleeping. I often wake up at three in the morning and I
just can’t get back to sleep.

W: I think I’ve seen enough. I’m leaving now.
4. M: It’s time to go.
W: I’m ready. You jump first.
M: Let’s jump out of the airplane together and then open our parachutes.
5. W: Why did you suddenly decide to go to the gym
M: The doctor said that I was overweight and at risk of developing high blood pressure. So
I’m determined to exercise to maintain fitness.

W: Do you play golf at the club
M: Never. I don’t like it. Tennis is my sport.
W: Really I used to take tennis lessons at the university once a week. But I was never any
good at it.
M: You have to practice a lot. I play five times a week with the group at the community
center.
W: I don’t have time for that. But I swim at the hotel pool three times a week.
听第 7段材料,回答第 8至 10题。
W: Charles, I know you like sports very much. So what sports do you like to do
M: Yes, Laura. Hmm... I like playing football best, which helps me build team spirit. I also
like skiing as it is very exciting. Plus, running is also one of my daily sports.
W: Sounds great! By the way, will you attend Nicole’s birthday party tomorrow
M: I’d love to, but I’m going to attend the school sports meeting this Friday. Will you
W: I’m afraid not. I need to take part in a speech competition then.

M: Good idea!
听第 8段材料,回答第 11至 13题。
M: There are five times more climate-related issues now than there were 50 years ago. People
don’t have to deal with forest fires or droughts here, but as you can see from where the
seawater hits the land, this coastline has been badly damaged.
W: Currently, our biggest issues are damage to homes, and the loss of wildlife habitats.
M: Yes. That’s why I’ve invited you to this seaside park today. You and your group of
government figures are in a unique position to help. With your assistance, we’ll be able to
pass new environmental protection policies.
W: I agree, and I’m so glad you invited us here. We’ve received money for environmental
projects but haven’t learned the best ways to defend our land from rising sea levels.
M: The most urgent step is creating a policy to build natural barriers to prevent damage to
houses. I have researched plans for how to protect our coastline. Through this process,
we’ll defend many families in our community.
W: Sounds perfect.
听第 9段材料,回答第 14至 16题。
W: Mark, I saw you running with your son this morning. Are you trying to help him become
stronger
M: Actually he’s preparing for a running race at his school. He really wants to win, so I
decided to run with him to help him win.
W: Now I see. So did you run when you were young
M: Yes. I actually ran marathons when I was in college. I trained a lot for the marathons. But
then two weeks before my big race, I injured my knees during training. My doctor
suggested I stop running. I followed his advice. But I still wanted to exercise, so I began to
cycle.
W: So you hadn’t run ever since
M: Yes. But after I began to run again with my son, I found I still love running. So I’ll run
more in future. So do you love running
W: Not really. But I usually play tennis with my friends in my spare time. And sometimes I
go swimming. So when will your son’s race take place
M: On May 10th. It’s just a week’s time away.
听第 10段材料,回答第 17至 20题。
Good evening, gentlemen and boys! Thank you for being here this evening. We’re here
to congratulate the top achievers of this year. The boys here have worked hard in order to be
a part of this ceremony.
Recognition of achievement can make us push ourselves and reach our full potential.
The prize winners are a true representation of everything that we value here at Hampton
School. I have every confidence that you young men will be precisely the kind of young
people who will make a positive difference to the country and the world.
Your success will be built on being true to yourself. You should recognize your
problems and doubts as well as your positive qualities. I remember listening to an interview
with Andy Murray, one of the top tennis players in the world. After he was defeated in the
first round of a tournament by a much lower ranked player, the media went crazy. However,
Murray was straightforward and wise. “Nobody died here,” he said, “I only lost a tennis
match, nothing more.” We are proud of our prizewinners today. They should be proud of
themselves. But let’s be clear, if you link motivation to winning prizes in life, you set
yourself up for disappointment. The greatest prize of all is that you can look yourself in the
eye and say, “I tried my absolute best.”
