Want to learn to skate Skating is a fun and exciting sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. Whether you’re a beginner or trying to improve your skills, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to skate.
Before you start skating, you should buy the right pair of ice skates. Make sure they fit comfortably. Safety is key. Remember to wear a helmet to protect yourself from falls.
First, you can begin to learn the following basic skating skills.
Learn to balance
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, and body relaxed. Look straight ahead rather than at the ground.
Forward skating
Gently push off with one foot and glide on the other, shifting your weight as you go. As you pick up speed, bring your pushing foot back to the gliding foot and push off again. Alternate (交替) feet for continuous movement.
Turning
To turn, lean your body in the direction you want to go while keeping your knees bent. You can also use your edges to carve turns by applying more pressure to one side of the blade (刀刃).
Stopping
To stop, dig one edge of your ice skate into the ground, using it as a brake (刹车). You can also do a T-stop by crossing one foot behind the other and applying pressure to the back foot.
As you get more comfortable, you can start trying more advanced skills like: crossovers, backward skating, spins and jumps.
Practice makes perfect. With the above skills and practice, I hope you’ll be gliding across the ice in no time.

Have you ever thought about living in a big plant What will it be like when you are in the plant Architects (建筑师) around the world are making the wild idea come true.
In Milan, Italy, the Vertical Forest is a pair of residential (住宅的) towers. The towers are covered with 20,000 trees. In the towers, different kinds of trees are planted on each floor to help clean the air. They take in CO2 and produce O2. Also, the trees make the Vertical Forest a nice home for small animals in the busy city. The colour of the Vertical Forest changes in different seasons. It’s green in spring and summer, while it’s brown in autumn and winter. This offers people a fantastic view in the city of Milan. People who live in the towers can enjoy the natural sights outside their windows.
The Esplanade Theatre in Singapore looks like a durian (榴莲). The outer walls are just like the durian’s “skin” to keep heat out. They are made of glass and aluminum sunshades (铝制遮阳帘). During the day, the sunshades can open or close on their own according to the position of the sun. When it’s hot outside, the sunshades will close to stop the sunlight coming in. This helps control the temperature in the theatre in order to save energy. As the sun moves, there are always some areas of the building staying in shadow (阴影). The sunshades in these areas will open to let in more natural light, creating interesting pictures inside the theatre.
The two wonderful buildings do not just celebrate nature’s beauty, but also serve to connect people with nature. Besides, they demonstrate us a good example of meeting people’s needs in a green way. There is no doubt that more buildings like the Vertical Forest and the Esplanade Theatre will be seen in the future.

①Growing up, I always took notes in class by hand. I would copy everything from the blackboard or slide (幻灯片) while listening to the teacher. When I entered college, I noticed that many students were using laptops (笔记本电脑) to take notes. Sometimes, I wondered: Should I change my note-taking habits Could I get better grades if I typed my notes instead of writing them by hand
②A study at Princeton University looked at different note-taking skills. The researchers asked pairs of students to take notes during an online course. In each pair, one student used a computer, and the other used pen and paper. The researchers found that the students performed similarly on fact-based (基于事实) questions. However, some questions required that the students answered what they had learned in the lesson. On these questions, the “typing or copying everything” students scored much lower. Interestingly, this study also found that students who didn’t copy the notes word for word scored higher. And this discovery made me improve my note-taking habits.
③“With laptops or your pen and paper, you can write a lot of things down,” said Michi Matsukura, one of my professors. “The problem is, are you trying to understand what you’re writing ”
④Now, “conceptual (概念化的 note taking”—focusing on big ideas, key terms, and interesting facts—simply makes more sense to us. We’ve found it more helpful in our studies than copying everything. It wasn’t easy to make this change, though. There was a fear of missing something when I first stopped writing down everything on the slide.
⑤It takes time and effort to discover and master the art of note taking. You can write your notes by hand or type them. You can copy word for word or try “conceptual note taking.” In the end, they are your notes. Just do what works best for you.
13.Which is true about typing or copying the notes word for word
A.It’s helpful to answer some fact-based questions.
B.People always use some key terms when copying.
C.Big ideas are often used when people copy the notes.
D.It’s easy to answer what we have learned in the lesson.
14.What made the writer improve his note taking habits
A.His professor’s advice. B.The discovery of a study.
C.An online course. D.His classmate’s help.
15.What is the writer’s opinion in the last paragraph
A.Conceptual note taking is more important.
B.Typing on laptops can help get better grades.
C.He especially supports copying everything down.
D.It’s better to choose a method that works best for you.

However, some questions required that the students answered what they had learned in the lesson. On these questions, the ‘typing or copying everything’ students scored much lower.” 故选A。
14.细节理解题。根据“And this discovery (发现) made me improve my note-taking habits.”可知,研究结果促使作者改善了记笔记的习惯。故选B。

Everyone has different opinions. This is very common. Your opinion is one of the things that make you different, according to Lisa Linardatos, a clinical psychologist (诊疗心理学家) from Canada. It is OK to express your own opinions. It’s important to show your opinions clearly because no one likes to make friends with people who aren’t honest about themselves. 17
Listen carefully to other people
Although you can’t wait to explain your side, listening to others explain their points of view first will help keep the conversation calm (平静的). You will also better understand their sides.
18
Remember, you’re not trying to start an argument. Don’t express yourself too strongly. Winning or losing is not the point. Don’t try to force your friend to think like you.
Show your friends that you value your relationship
Even if you disagree about some things, explain them respectfully. 19 For example, when your friend prefer rock while you enjoy classical music, you could try this: “I know you really like rock music, but I’m afraid it’s just not my cup of tea. I prefer classical music. I think if I could find a rock version (版本) , it would be fun to enjoy it with you.”
In the future, you may have different opinions with many people, like your parents and friends. In fact, this can be a good thing and you can even learn from it. For example, sometimes you may not realize that your ideas are wrong. But by discussing them with others, you have a chance to learn, according to Li Songwei, another psychologist. 20 That confidence will build over time and can shape your personality.
A.Try to express your own opinion politely.
B.Don’t get worried because it’s really normal.
C.But you should be careful about how you express your opinions.
D.This can prevent both of you from being too emotional (情绪的).
E.Also, expressing different opinions openly makes you look more confident.

It’s time to say “thank you” to someone who is probably the most important man in your life. The third Sunday in June—which falls on the 16th this year—is Father’s Day.
The holiday honours not only fathers, but also all men who act as father figures, such as stepfathers, uncles, and grandfathers. What kinds of roles do they play in the family
In the past, women were more likely (可能的) than men to look after children, as fathers would spend most of their time working. But in modern times, mothers have their own jobs. Fathers also help out when it comes to doing housework and taking care of children.
Fathers are usually the first men to appear in their children’s lives. They set an example for what a man should be like and how women should be treated. Many studies have shown that if a father spends more time raising his child, his son or daughter will feel safer and more confident.
Dads have some special qualities (品质) that make them different from mothers. For example, studies show that fathers are better than mothers at teaching children how to swim or ride bicycles. They are more likely to stand behind their children and let them swim or ride themselves.
Swimming and riding bicycles together are ways of spending quality time together for dads and kids. It’s also a good way to celebrate Father’s Day. You can also make your dad a card, give him a phone call or gift, or play with him in a park. These little things can show your dad that you care about him and love him deeply.

16.What is the right structure (结构) of the passage
(①= Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.

41.Is the Father’s Day on the same date every year
42.In the past, why did mothers spend more time looking after their children
43.If a father spends more time with his children, how will the children feel
