二、阅读理解(共两节,满分 50 分)
第一节 (共 15 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 37.5 分)
A
January 2025 was the hottest January in recorded human history, with global temperatures entering record territory according to Copernicus Climate Change Service and Atmosphere Monitoring Service and ECMWF ERA5 dataset.
Climate scientist Zeke Hausfather said that January 2025 was warmer than every January measured by scientists, surpassing the last record set in January 2024 by a sizable margin (幅度). “This means that January 2025 stands out as abnormal even by the standards of the last two years,” Hausfather explains. Scientists expected this January to be cooler than previous Januaries because of the ocean current cycles like El Ni o and La Ni a. Yet those predictions (预测) did not come to pass.
“We don’t have El Ni o to kick around anymore,” Yulsman said. “Its impacts actually disappeared months ago. Adding to the puzzle is the fact that we’re in the midst of a La Ni a, which typically cools things down.”
The year 2024 was the warmest year in modern history, with average global temperatures surpassing 1.5 ℃ above pre-industrial levels for the first time ever. The Atlantic hurricane (飓风) season was unusually extreme, droughts and wildfires causing widespread suffering. Humans emitted (排放) a record-breaking 37.4 billion tons of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, though. The total carbon dioxide concentration in the atmosphere has increased from 280 ppm before the Industrial Revolution to 420 ppm as of 2023, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
“The human emissions of heat-trapping gases are the primary cause of the increases in extreme weather like flood, drought, heatwaves, and generally unusual weather that we are all experiencing,” Dr. Twila Moon, the deputy lead scientist at the National Snow and Ice Data Center, said. “It is well known that reducing these emissions is key to minimizing risk and damage into the future. And how to achieve these reductions is well mapped out with the technology to do it. The pressure is now focused on social, cultural, business and political will.”
21.Why did scientists fail to predict the temperature of January 2025
A.The reference data was limited.
B.La Ni a didn’t function as expected.
C.The influence of El Ni o continued.
D.Ocean current cycles changed sharply.
22.What do the figures in paragraph 4 mainly show
A.Climate cycles have their own natural phenomena.
B.La Nina’s effect is weaker than scientists expected.
C.Emissions continue despite worsening climate impacts.
D.Global temperatures experience regular ups and downs.
23.What do Dr. Twila Moon’s words suggest in the last paragraph
A.Action falls behind solutions.
B.Technology is still the barrier.
C.Climate change is unavoidable.
D.Governments refuse teamwork.
24.What can be the best title for the text
A.La Ni a’s Cooling Effect: Why It Failed in 2025
B.Extreme Weather: Has It Been a Concern from 2024
C.El Ni o’s Disappearance: a Challenge for Climate Science
D.Record Heat and Emissions: a Wake-up Call for Humans

Born in 2001, He Fuqu graduated with a degree in elderly services. He began her career at 19 as an intern (实习) caregiver. In March 2023, He joined her current company and quickly advanced to become the youngest director at the nursing home.

One elderly woman gave her a red envelope and a bag of candy, despite her polite refusal.
In addition, He revised the nursing care level chart to better match the services provided. “This adjustment helps meet the residents’ needs more effectively,” He explained.
Working in a nursing home, He has encountered the realities of aging and death long before most people in their 20s even consider them. Many years ago, my father, who was 80 at that time, arrived for his regular two-week visit at my home in Karachi. He lived with my elder brother in Lahore most of the time and for ten years had stuck to his habit of going for an-hour-long morning walk to keep fit. Naturally, he was keen to continue his morning walk while with us in Karachi.
Our preferred park is a 2km walk from my house and it has a 1km walking track, I could not drive him there every day as I had to leave for the office while at the same time he wanted to set out. Since there were hardly any footpaths in Karachi, my father said he was delighted to walk on the road as he was certain there wouldn’t be much traffic in the morning.
Though I kept him informed that our house was near the park and was made of red bricks in case he got lost, I was still less confident so I suggested it would be safer if he changed his walk time to the evening. That way I could take him to the park after work. However, my father — a determined person — said that he could not change his routine for just a few days and insisted that he would be leaving the house every day at 7 am and returning by 8 am. So one day when he had not returned by 8:30 am, my wife, Qaisa, phoned me in a panic. Worried, I immediately drove home, taking the same route that my father would have taken for his walk.
Not spotting him anywhere, I drove back to the park, in the hope of discovering some trace, but in vain. Totally at a loss for what to do next, I returned home and waited impatiently, walking back and forth in the house. At 10:35 am the doorbell rang and my father stood outside the door smiling, accompanied by a young man.

【原文】 W: Elizabeth Blackwell was born in England in 1821, and settled in New York City when she was ten years old. One day, she decided to become a doctor. That was nearly impossible for a woman in the middle of the nineteenth century. After writing many letters to apply to medical schools, she was finally accepted by a doctor in Philadelphia. She was so determined that she taught at a middle school and gave music lessons to earn money for her study. In 1849, after graduation from medical school, she decided to further her education in Paris. But a serious eye illness forced her to give up the idea. Upon returning to the United States, she found it difficult to start her own practice because she was a woman. By 1857 Elizabeth and her sister, also a doctor, along with another female doctor managed to open a new hospital, the first for women and children. Besides being the first female doctor and founding her own hospital, she also set up the first medical school for women.

【原文】M: How did you think of opening this shop
W: Well, I knew the shop because I passed it every day on the way to my office. The owner got ill and had to sell it, so I bought the business.
M: Have you made any changes to it
W: Yes. It only provided fruits and vegetables before, but now I sell all kinds of things. And the shop stays open for longer. I open at 6:30 every morning, when local factory workers come in for cigarettes. During the day, I sell all kinds of things to housewives: fresh milk, cooked meat, and so on.
M: Do you close it for lunch
W: Oh, no. That’s a very good time for business. During the lunch rush, I make sandwiches to order.
M: Are you busy after lunch
W: Yes. I sell a lot of sweets to school children on the way home. Some customers want something for supper. I close the shop at 6:30 and go home for my supper.
M: That’s a long day. Don’t you get tired

【原文】M: I’m here at the scene of this morning’s Main Street accident. The four-way crossroads is always busy and dangerous. Because of the ice on the road today, it was especially bad. The cars that were damaged in the accident have been moved out of the way onto Third Street, which has been closed. I am happy to tell you that all five drivers received only small injuries. They were taken to the local hospital to be checked anyway. The police officer who came to the scene said that they were all very lucky. One local man says that he is always afraid of walking across this particular group of roads. He is very careful when he is moving across this crossroads between Columbia Road and First Street, especially in winter. “Spring cannot come soon enough,” he said, “even during the summer these roads are dangerous. “The traffic started once again just now, and a policeman is directing traffic in the center of the crossroads. 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要讲述了当感到疲惫时,可以通过四种方式(伸展或跳舞、享受喜爱的活动、将担忧转化为行动、给熟悉运动增添新意)来用运动替代使用手机以减轻疲劳。
36.上文“When you’re tired, you may turn to your phone. Surfing and using social media feel good as they activate brain reward pathways, causing dopamine (多巴胺). However, minutes spent moving can also reduce tiredness.(当你累了的时候,你可能会求助于你的手机。

39.下文“If you care, let that drive you to find solutions. Act on issues you care about creatively and physically. Worried about the environment Walk, bike, or join local restoration projects. Care about children or families Volunteer at after-school programs. Reduce global problems by starting a community walking group to discuss these issues.(如果你在乎,就让它驱使你去寻找解决方案。

Rushing to the door as fast as I could, I hugged my father tightly. With my heart occupied with joy and relief, the young man told me that my father had lost his way while returning home after the morning walk. The only description he could provide was that my house was near the park and that the house was made of red bricks. With much effort, and in almost two hours’ searching, the young man was able to locate my house.
After knowing what had happened, I showed my appreciation of the young man’s kindness. I invited him inside to join us for a cup of tea. The man refused politely and said sincerely that he felt so delighted to have brought my father safely home to me that he did not require further thanks. Then he drove the car away without even sharing his name and I have not seen him again. This kind act has a lasting influence on me. I always give others a helping hand if possible, even so many years later.
