Should Museum Entry Be Free With International Museum Day coming up, today we are asking readers: Should museums be free or should people have to pay for a ticket Let us know your ments: Free entry does not attract people or encourage them to enjoy art. Generally, people respect things that are difficult or costly to get. Museums should ask regular visitors to pay a fee, but provide free tickets as prizes for high- achieving students who can enjoy them more. —Fred Smith (New Zealand), 14 Museums are not only there for enjoyment. They are educational. This is why they must be free. While museums need a large number of money to run, let the rich pay for it. The idea of a person or a child interested in art not being able to visit it because of cost is wrong. —Krista Chen (the US), 15 Museums teach people about their past. This is part of our shared culture that should be available to everyone, rich or poor. People should never be asked to pay an entrance fee. —Rob Sanchez (Australia), 17 There are no simple answers. Low ticket prices could help museums stay open. But companies and businessmen should also provide museums with more money and other support. They have a social responsibility (责任), too. —Amber White (the UK), 16 I think museums and art galleries should be all free to the public. I do, however, think twice a year the museums should organize money-raising events to help pay for the cost of staying open. —Li Mishao (China), 15
21.How many readers agree with the idea of free museums
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
22.Who advises museums should regularly hold special events to collect money
A. Krista Chen. B. Fred Smith. C. Rob Sanchez. D. Li Mishao.
23.Why does Fred Smith believe that free tickets should be given to high-achieving students
A. Students will then study harder.
B. Museums will attract more visitors.
C. Museums can make themselves more famous.
D. These students can better enjoy museums.
24.Which of the following does Amber White agree with
A. Businessmen should offer museums more help.
B. People should only pay what they can afford.
C. Free entry doesn t encourage visitors to museums.
D. Everybody should have a chance to visit museums.

①It s always easier to say “Yes” because most of us want to make other people happy. Somebody asks you to go for a party but you have tests the next day, or to help them although you are busy at the moment, or to join in the activities you have no interest at all! Even though your heart is crying NO, you find the word “Yes” come out of your mouth. However, it usually results in anger—not only for the person who asked you, but also for yourself for not being strong enough.
②Lisa Messenger, the Collective Hub CEO, said in her first few years of business, many people asked her to talk over a coffee. Actually, she usually ended up having 20 coffee meetings a week and that stopped her from doing business because she didn t have time to do her own work.
③Messenger finally learned to refuse like “No, I m sorry, but I don t have time.” She believes if you say “Yes”, you will regret later. Or your heart will be filled with guilt(内疚), fear or anger because you feel bad for agreeing to do something you never want to. So you need to be brave enough to say “No” when you re asked at first.
④ Janine Garner, CEO of the LBD Group, believed we need to get very clear about our goals. Unless we work towards our goals, nobody else will care about our time. Garner said, “We may end up saying ‘Yes because we feel sorry for somebody who needs us. But we end up having that bad feeling in our heart. You can only achieve the best of you by stopping doing the things that take up your time and don t add anything towards your goals. Take a good look at the time you spent on others, the time that you really should spend on yourself.”

A. giving examples B. making a survey C. telling a story D. asking questions
26.We can learn from the passage that Messenger _________.
A. likes drinking tea in her work time
B. thinks there is no need to say “No” to others
C. knows how to refuse others politely now
D. feels angry when she can t help others
27.Which opinion would Janine Garner probably agree with
A. Offering help is the key to making friends.
B. Helping others may make you successful.
C. People who need us will care about our time.
D. You d better say “No” bravely if necessary.
28.What s the structure of the passage
A. B. C. D.

Why is "buy things" in Chinese spoken as maidongxi (buy east and west), but not mainanbei (buy south and north)
One theory (假说) says maidongxi has (1) to do with the five elements (要素): jin (metal), mu (wood), shui (water), huo (fire) and tu (earth). In Chinese culture, the four (2) have to do with these elements. East matches wood, west matches metal, south matches fire, and north matches water. If someone carries nan (south) and bei (north) in a basket, it means to (3) water and fire, which is not even possible. But if one puts dong (east) and xi (west) in one's basket, of course they can carry metal and wood.
There are also more common explanations.
One says that in the Tang Dynasty (唐代), there (4) two popular markets in Chang'an, the capital of China at that time. One was called the East Market, and the (5) was called the West Market. When shopping, people usually went to the East Market (6) , and then went to the West Market. As time went (7) , people started to describe shopping as "buying east and west."
The last theory is about China's trading history. Around the 15th (8) , China began trading with the world, and most of its foreign goods (货物) happened to come from the east (Japan) and west (Arabia). Markets (9) "things from the east and the west". It was short for "east and west" (10) .

40.【答案】One possible version:
There is no doubt that everyone has received some gifts, and so have I. The most special gift I have received is a camera.
Whenever I see the camera, it makes me think of my grandfather. He gave it to me as a gift five years ago. The camera plays an important role in my life. It not only helps me record my life, but also tells me never to give up.
I failed an exam and went home unhappily that day. When my grandfather figured out what had happened, he took some photos on the street with his camera and showed them to me. In the pictures, some people were happy while others were not. Grandpa comforted and encouraged me, saying, "Life is full of ups and downs, but it is colorful." I learned from him that no being afraid of difficulties is the greatest thing in the world.
I will keep the camera and take good care of it forever.
