My eighteen-year-old daughter Julia called twenty minutes after she left, saying she had an
accident. I grabbed my shoes and was in the car in less than a minute. When I finally saw her, I
hugged her tightly. Then I looked at the other driver. Learning that he fell asleep behind the wheel
at about seventy miles an hour when the speed limit was forty-five, I could have choked him.
“It could have been worse,” I reminded myself as she cried all the way to the doctor’s office.
Luckily, four days after the accident, Julia felt better. At her appointment, her doctor cleared her to
resume normal activities, including driving. But I could tell by her look that she had no intention
of getting behind the wheel.
Later that day, I sat with Julia as she spoke on the phone with our insurance agent. On the
phone, she was professional, telling the agent what had happened in a clear, brief way. I realized
she sounded like an adult. And adults drive cars. I realized that no matter how I felt about it,
allowing Julia to give in to her fear wasn’t good for her. When she hung up, I hugged her. “You’re
stronger than you think,” I said. “And tomorrow you’re going to drive my car and meet your
friends for lunch. You just have to push through the fear and do it, and it will get easier each time
you do.” I ignored the fear in her eyes and the way my heart sped up when I thought about Julia
behind the wheel again.
The next day, Julia drove my car to meet her friends. As I watched her leave, I felt nervous
and proud. She texted me when she got to the restaurant, and I felt my heart rate return to normal.
The tears I’d been holding back all week flooded my eyes. Watching her leave the house without
me for the first time since the accident was frightening, but it was also necessary.
24.What was the author’s reaction to the driver’s behavior
A.She almost burst with anger. B.She felt guilty for her daughter.
C.She felt sympathy for him. D.She was choked with sorrow.
25.What did the doctor suggest to Julia
A.Staying away from driving. B.Attending a driving lesson.
C.Contacting the insurance agent. D.Retaking her routine activities.
26.What did the author realize when Julia spoke on the phone
A.The driver took the blame for the accident.
B.The accident had been worse than expected.
C.Julia should overcome the fear to drive.
D.Julia was smart to deal with any trouble.
27.Why did the author cry at Julia’s text
A.Julia was good at learning to drive.
B.Julia recovered mentally and physically.
C.Julia had supportive friends and parents.
D.Julia could look after herself when driving.

Think “art”. What comes to your mind Is it Greek or Roman sculptures in the Louvre, or
Chinese paintings in the Palace Museum Or maybe, just maybe, it’s a dancing pattern of lights
The artworks by American artist Janet Echelman look like colourful floating clouds when
they are lit up at night. Visitors to one of her artworks in Vancouver could not only enjoy looking
at it, they could also interact with it-literally. They did this by using their phones to change its
colours and patterns. Exhibits such as these are certainly new and exciting, but are they really art
Whatever your opinion, people have been expressing their thoughts and ideas through art for
thousands of years. To do this, they have used a variety of tools and technologies. Yet
Michelangelo and others have been labelled (定义) as “artists”, but not “technicians”. This means
that art and technology, have always been seen as two very separate (不同的) things.
Today, however, technological advances have led to a combination of art and technology. As
a result, the art world is changing greatly. Now art is more accessible to us than ever before. Take
for example one of China’s most famous paintings from the Song Dynasty, Along the River
During the Qingming Festival. As this artwork is rarely on display, people have sometimes queued
up to six hours for a chance to see it. Once in front of the painting, they only have limited time to
spend taking in its five metres of scenes along the Bian River in Bianjing. Thanks to technology
however, millions more people have been able to experience a digital version of this painting.
Three-dimensional (3D) animation means that viewers can see the characters move around and
interact with their surroundings. They can also watch as the different scenes change from daylight
into nighttime.
The art-tech combination (结合) is also changing our concepts of “art” and the “artist”. Not
only can we interact with art, but also take part in its creation. With new technological tools at our
fingertips, more and more people are exploring their creative sides. The result has been exciting
new art forms, such as digital paintings and videos.
However, where technology will take art next is anyone’s guess. But one thing is for
sure—with so many artists exploring new possibilities, we can definitely expect the unexpected.
28.What’s the function of the first paragraph
A.To explain the art. B.To introduce the topic.
C.To give the background. D.To give a definition.
29.Why is “Michelangelo” referred to in the third paragraph
A.To show he is a famous artist.
B.To show he is also a technician.
C.To show art is different from technology.
D.To show art is the same as technology.
30.What’s mainly talked about in the passage
A.The history of technology and art.
B.The relation of technology and art.
C.The future of technology and art.
D.The examples of technology and art.

31.What can we know about the author’s attitude to the combination of art and technology
A.Positive. B.Negative. C.Doubtful. D.Uncertain

Many scholars agree that a meaningful existence comes down to three factors: the coherence
of one’s life, the possession of clear long-term goals and the belief that one’s life matters. But we
believe there is another element to consider.
Imagine the first butterfly you stop to admire after a long winter or the scenery atop a hill
after a fresh hike. Sometimes existence delivers us small moments of beauty. When people are
open to appreciating such experiences, these moments may further improve how they view their
life. We call this element experiential appreciation, an ability to detect and admire life’s inner
beauty as events happen.
To better understand this appreciation, we conducted a series of studies involving over 3,000
participants. Initially, we had participants rate their coping strategies to ease their stress. Those
managing stress by focusing on their appreciation for life’s beauty reported experiencing life as
highly meaningful. In the follow-ups, we asked them to rate the degree to which they agreed with
various statements, such as “I have a great appreciation for the beauty of life” and other statements
related to coherence, purpose, existential mattering. Our results showed that the more people
indicated that they were “appreciating life”, the more they felt their existence valuable. In the
experiment that followed, we further explored the phenomenon by asking participants to watch an
awe-inspiring video. They also reported having a greater sense of experiential appreciation and
meaning in life in these moments, compared with those watching more neutral videos.
The final results confirmed our original theory: appreciating small things can make life feel
more meaningful. But applying that insight can be difficult. Our modern, fast-paced,
project-oriented (任务驱动的) lifestyles fill the day with targets. We are on the go, attempting to
make the most of our output. This makes it easy to miss what is happening right now. Yet life
happens in the present moment. We should slow down, let life surprise us and embrace the
significance in the everyday. After all, we live in a wonderful world. There is no end to the
adventures we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.
32.Why does the author mention the admiration of a butterfly
A.To raise a question. B.To describe a picture.
C.To draw a conclusion. D.To introduce a concept.
33.What is mainly explored through the studies in Paragraph 3
A.The life of the participants involved in the study.
B.The contribution of a long-term goal in life.
C.The theory of experiential appreciation.
D.The analysis of the belief that matters most.
34.What makes it hard for us to appreciate the present according to the passage
A.Our modern fast-paced lifestyle. B.The lack of opportunities.
C.Our focus on individual feelings. D.The ignorance of future outcomes.

35.Which of the following suggestions will the author probably agree with
A.Fill every day with a great many targets.

How to Care for Indoor Plants
If you’ve ever had an indoor plant that’s quickly withered (枯萎), you might believe that
you don’t have a green thumb or you’re not cut out for growing plants. 36 The truth is
that anyone can be a good plant owner, and it really isn't complicated, we promise. In this article,
we'll walk you through everything you need to know to care for your indoor plants, from watering
to sunlight requirements to fertilizer.
37 If your soil is either too dry or overwatered, it can damage the plant’s roots and
prevent the plant from growing. In some cases under or over watering your plant can also kill it.
Plants with thick leaves require more water than plants with leathery leaves. There is no specific
frequency that works for all indoor plants. Instead, what you must do is determine what kind of
plant you have, and follow guidelines on how often to water it by doing research on its specific
type.
Stick your finger in the soil to determine how wet it is below the surface. If you put your
finger into the soil up to your joint, you can feel if your plant needs more water. If the soil feels
damp, then you don’t need to water it. 38 If it feels dry then it’s likely you need to water
it.
Use water that is at room temperature. 68F or 20C is the best temperature to keep the water
that you’re using to water your plants. 39 After that, you are supposed to take some
actions to make the plants grow comfortably.
Use a hand-held moisture (水分) meter to ensure water levels in your soil. 40 The
mechanism explores the underlying soil to give you a reading on how hydrated (含水的) your soil
is.
A.Keep potting soil moist, but not wet.
B.Indoor plants are not necessarily good for us.
C.Well, we’re here to tell you that’s not the case.
D.Test whether your finger is long enough to put into the soil.
E.You can use a thermometer to determine the temperature of the water.
F.Over-watering can lead to rotting of the root which you need to fix.
G.Moisture meters are the most accurate way to determine how hydrated your plants are.

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成篇完整的短文。
Last year, as my then-9-year-old son, Leopold, and I were preparing for a mom-son ski trip to
Keystone, I came up with a rule: we would say yes to everything. You see, Leopold is a picky
eater— he lives on chicken nuggets and yogurt— and can be hesitant to try new things.
I was hoping to find a way to encourage him without resorting to worn-out saying like“If you
don’t try it, you’ ll never know if you like it.” So I borrowed the idea of a Yes Day, something our
family has done a handful of times since watching the movie of the same name. Before the trip,
Leopold and I agreed we would say yes to everything, including food and experiences—
especially new ones.
We started saying yes before we even boarded our flight, when we stopped at a breakfast
buffet at the airport. For me, that meant I sampled a vegan meatball, while Leopold tried a mouse
bite of hash browns he said looked“funny”.
After we got settled at our hotel, I took Leopold to meet his skiing instructor. While he was
doing his skiing practice, I skied by myself. On the first day, I played it safe and stuck to the long
and winding easy green run. On the second day, I challenged myself to ski an intermediate blue
run. There was a part steeper than I had thought, but I did my slow, diligentS-turns and I made it
down in one piece.
Leopold had taken a few lessons back at home in Connecticut but had never had the
opportunity to ski on a mountain of this size. My hope was that he would make the most of this
opportunity. So I encouraged him to ride a chairlift(吊椅式缆车) to the top and then ski down.
Leopold’s anxiety was evident as we stood at the base of the mountain. His eyes widened at the
