一.阅读理解(共15小题)
1.(2025春 龙岗区校级期中) News that the Dutch book publishing house Veen Bosch &Keuning has confirmed plans to experiment with AI to translate fiction has caused a fierce debate.
Across every new technology, debates centre on what we stand to lose by embracing change and, with AI,this echoes(与……相呼应) the developments in the recent history of genetic science. But somehow, when we interfere with culture and human history,it can seem that something even more fundamental than DNA is under threat.
Fiction trenslation has traditionally been the domain of skilled human traislators.Using Al in this field could break up humanity's most remarkable and perhaps irreplaceable achievement:the ability to express complex human thoughts through words.
Language, especially in literature, isn't just about words. It's about cultural context, and the distinct voice of the writer.Only a human who understands both languages and cultures can accurately translate the heart of a story.Yet machine learning has made extraordinary strides(进展) in understanding language, best evidenced by the latest version of ChatGPT.We.seem to be at a point in the development of AI where its capabilities of using language almost match humans' in a wide range of circumstances, from customer service chatbots to health testing tools.
Learning every language to read every book is,of course, impractical. But not understanding a particular language can prevent us from discovering great works of native literature that ray never be translated into our own languages. Thus,we might advance a social justice argument for using AI translation to widely gain insights from many cultures and their varied languages.
Of course, the rise of AI in translation has its downsides. If AI replaces human translators,we risk losing their insights and the cultural understanding they bring But we can use AI to help human translators.Translators could be involved in improving AI models, ensuring higher accuracy and quality, and selecting works to be translated.Imagine a world where translators and AI work together, pushing the boundaries of what can be accomplished. This would give us access to more global literature, enhancing our collective understanding of diverse cultures.
(1)Why does the author mention the developments in recent genetic science?
A.To emphasize the rapid technological progress.
B.To explain the moral issues involved in this field.
C.To show concerns about the effect of AI translation.
D.To discuss the advantages of applying AI technology.
(2)What does the underlined phrase"made extraordinary strides"in paragraph 5 mean?
A.Encountered huge barriers.
B.Achieved remarkable progress.
C.Posed considerable challenges.
D.Exhibited significant limitations.
(3)What is identified as a significant potential benefit of AI translation?
A.It can ensure the accuracy of translations.
B.It can save a large amount of financial investment.
C.It can facilitate the process of learning foreign languages.
D.It can expand access to literature from different cultures.
(4)What is the author's attitude towards the use of AI in fiction translation?
A.Objective.
B.Skeptical.
C.Indifferent.
D.Optimistic.
2.(2025春 浙江期中) Many economists (经济学家) today believe that self﹣interest is what drives competition and growth in market economies. However,in an increasingly interconnected society,it is even more important to have group skills. So we should encourage cooperation to better prepare children for the future.
In the present time marked with digital economy, cooperation is a valuable skill to have.As a research study conducted by Google shows, skills such as good communication and cooperation are important to employees compared to technical skills or knowledge. In contrast, intense (激烈的) competitive and individualistic behaviour may destroy social relations in the community of coworkers.Since no man is an island, even the most competitive employee will not be able to pursue his goals effectively without the help of others who are able to share a common understanding.
Moreover, encouraging cooperation helps develop a healthy sense of self﹣esteem in children that better prepares them for the competitive working world. The competitive culture include higher anxiety and depression among university students and office workers. It is primary for the builders of our future to be based on mutually beneficial cooperation rather than self﹣centred competition.Teamwork can help a maturing individual realize that each has his or her own unique set of abilities and that another person's talents do not weaken the value of his or her talents.
We should encourage a spirit of cooperation more than a spirit of competition in children to better prepare them for an uncertain future.Cooperation opens for an individual a gateway to diverse skills and talents of others and importantly, enhances our chances of solving problems of the future.Furthermore, since cooperative activities can build confidence in children,it will also promote healthy competition within a generation that can better understand and tolerate others' weaknesses.
(1)What will intense competition lead to according to the study?
A.It can promote communications between people.
B.It could bring damage to partners' relationships.
C.It will weaken one's ability in solving problems.
D.It enables one to share common views with others.
(2)What does the author agree with according to paragraph 3?
A.Only by cooperation can children develop self﹣esteem.
B.One's abilities and another's talents can't work together.
C.It is important for builders of future to learn to cooperate.
D.Higher anxiety and depression don't exist among students.
(3)What characteristic might cooperation have,as mentioned in the passage?
A.Focusing on self﹣centred competition.
B.Reducing the possibility of success.
C.Pursuing individual goals effectively.
D .Accepting teammates' shortcomings.
(4)What is author's intention to write the article?
A.To encourage a teamwork spirit in children.
B.To support fierce competition between children.
C.To warn children of uncertain trouble in the future.
D.To build up confidence in children through competition.
3.(2024春 城关区校级期末) Maths is all around us,from working out how to share the bill after a meal to calculating(计算) your household bills. Some people love the challenge of working out maths problems, but many fear the moment when they have to deal with numbers and figures and feel a real sense of worry. It can seem discouraging, but this "maths anxiety" is perfectly normal, and you're definitely not alone. And anyway, our worries and fears don't necessarily reflect our ability.
The problem really starts in childhood,at school.Research has found that maths teachers who are nervous about teaching the subject can pass on their anxiety to the pupils, and girls may be more likely to be affected. The Programme for International Student Assessment found around 31% of 15 and 16﹣year﹣olds across 34 countries said they got very nervous doing maths problems,33% said they got tense and nervous doing maths homework, and nearly 60% said they worried maths classes would be difficult.Shulamit Kahn, from Boston University's Questrom School of Business, told the BBC she believes giving students, particularly girls, good role models "is significant, especially at a young age".She thinks the key is to get people, especially women who love teaching maths,to teach younger children.
Writing for BBC Future,David Robson says "It's not clear why maths gives rise to so much fear compared to geography. But the fact that there's a right or wrong answer might make you more worried about underperforming." And once we assume we're not a 'maths person',we avoid solving things that we probably could do.
Psychologists (心理学家) have been trying to work out why mental calculation can bring us out in a sweat. That fear may come from many sources, but some suggest that expressing your fears clearly can loosen their hold on you,and encourage children to see a maths test as a challenge, not a threat(威胁).We need to think positively about maths and give it a second chance.
(1)Regarding "maths anxiety" in paragraph 1,the author thinks .
A.it is unique
B.it is formal
C.it is common
D.it is necessary
(2)What can be inferred from paragraph 2?
A.Girls are better at maths than boys.
B.Maths classes are difficult for all students.
C.Students' anxiety results entirely from teachers.
D.Confidence in maths needs developing in childhood.
(3)What will be a potential result if one thinks he is not a 'maths person'?
A.He will rise to challenges.
B.He will learn maths harder.
C.He will be doubtful about his ability.
D.He will not see maths as a threat.
(4)What are children advised to do according to the last paragraph?
A.Track sources of maths fear regularly.
B.Speak fears out for improvement bravely.
C.Explore causes of failure in maths carefully.
D.Quit challenges to avoid anxiety actively.
4.(2024春 市南区校级期末) If there was an app claiming to improve your memory, would you be willing to try it?It's hard to resist the idea of having a better memory.
In response to this perceived need, the brain training industry has grown rapidly, offering a wide range of accessible and affordable mental exercises through smartphone and tablet apps. Many researchers have found evidence suggesting that well﹣designed exercises can improve mental abilities and lead to better scores on IQ tests. They compare the brain to muscles, suggesting that targeted repetition of memory exercises can strengthen and condition our memory processes, similar to how athletes engage in strength and conditioning by repeatedly exercising specific muscle groups.
In contrast to everyday activities like solving a complex puzzle, memory training apps are specifically designed to provide a more challenging workout for the brain. These apps typically involve tasks that require tracking a large number of objects while being distracted (使分心) by a secondary task, such as mental calculations or exploring a game's landscape. If this brain training proves effective,it could be beneficial for individuals with brain﹣related disabilities or those recovering from conditions like cancer.
Critics, though, argue that while the concept is appealing, the overall evidence fails to demonstrate significant improvement in core brain processes.Additionally, despite the claims made by many apps and brain training companies, scientists have yet to identify the key factors that make an intervention truly effective or determine the best approaches to address the diverse needs of individuals seeking help.
While the question is still open to debate, there is evidence suggesting that short﹣term working memory training can benefit high﹣functioning individuals. However,it's important to note that brain training, like diet and exercise,is unlikely to have identical effects on every individual.
(1)In what way is the brain similar to muscles according to many researchers?
A.In testing results.
B.In work processes.
C.In bodily functions.
D.In training methods.
(2)What is the main feature of the typical tasks in memory training apps?
A.Simple.
B.Effective.
C.Demanding.
D.Interesting.
(3)What do critics think memory training apps lack?
A.Legal claims.
B.Proven effects.
C.Tailored services.
D.Appealing concepts
(4)What can be the suitable title for the text?
A.Can Our Memory be Improved?
B.Does Brain Training Actually Work?
C.What have Scientists Found about Memory?
D.What does the Brain Training Industry Bring?
5.(2024春 新余期末) It is natural to compare ourselves to others and to get caught in a mental comparison loop, and yet this seldom is beneficial. You may have heard the expression "Comparison is the thief of joy." To me,this is true as I have found it is quite difficult to compare myself to others and feel joy at the same time.
Comparison not only robs us of joy,but it can also fuel self﹣criticism and a lack of self﹣acceptance.Typically, comparison leads to perceiving others as superior to you in some way and feeling inadequate or inferior. "I am not as successful, competent, attractive as they are." Why don't I have what they have?We use comparison as an avenue for self﹣criticism, "What's wrong with me?I must be an inadequate loser." This hinders self﹣acceptance.
Comparison is deceptive (误导的).It tells us that if we meet the expectations, lose weight, get a promotion,or buy the house,we will feel better, calmer, more self﹣assured, and stop comparing ourselves. This may be temporarily true, yet,a comparison is an internal process that is ultimately based on our thoughts and sense of self, not external circumstances. We can always find something else to compare, another expectation we tell ourselves we are not meeting.
To stop comparing ourselves to others,we have to recognize that the comparison game is unwinnable (and exhausting) and stop playing. To shift from being guided by comparison to being guided by your values.Values are antidotes to comparison.Reflecting upon and being aware of your values, and aligning (使一致) behaviors and decisions with your values, highlights and reinforces what is truly important to you and can solidify your sense of self﹣identity and self﹣acceptance.
This does not mean we ignore things that we may want to change. It means these changes and goals are based on values not comparison to others, and not relevant to self﹣acceptance,we accept ourselves regardless.
Behaviors and decisions are a matter of personal choice, not a means to measure up to others or a requirement for acceptance.Self﹣acceptance isn't about fixing anything about yourself,it is about affirming who you are, today.
(1)What is the negative effect of comparison?
A.It results in criticism from other people.
B.It harms our confidence and dignity.
C.It makes us give up working hard.
D.It hinders our roads to success.
(2)Why is comparison misleading according to paragraph 3?
A.Because it is an internal process depending on our expectations.
B.Because there are so many things waiting for us to compare.
C.Because we set high standard for ourselves all the time.
D.Because we never stop comparing despite temporary satisfaction.
(3)What does the underlined word in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.Solutions.
B.Necessities.
C.Reasons.
D.Suggestions.
(4)What is the best title for the passage?
A.Comparison reduce our values
B.Accept your own behaviors and decisions
C.Stop trying to measure up to others
D.Why is it unnecessary to compare?
6.(2024春 唐山期末) For everyone whose relationship with mathematics is broken,Jo Boaler,a professor at Stanford Graduate School of Education, has ideas for repairing it.
Most students have only ever experienced what she calls narrow mathematics. In this world of mathematics, questions have one valued method and one answer.Students need to follow a set of procedures at speed. When blindly memorizing math facts, they're not developing number sense. They don't learn how to use numbers flexibly in different situations. For most of them, mathematics is an almost completely symbolic experience. It's a big part of why we have a country of mathematics failure and fear.
In her new book,Boaler argues that mathematics should be taught in more visual (可视的) ways.Students should be invited to see mathematical ideas not only as numbers but also as words, visuals, physical representations, tables, models and movements.
In her book she mentioned an activity she did with middle﹣school students in a summer camp where students were shown an image of a4 x4 x 4 cm cube (立方体) made up of smaller1 cm cubes. The larger cube was dipped (蘸) into a can of blue paint, and she asked,if they could take apart the little cubes, how many sides would be painted blue?To solve it,she gave the students sugar cubes and had them physically build a larger 4 x 4 x 4 cube.
A year later, she asked one student,Jed,how the camp had impacted him.Jed told her that he was in advanced math class, but he still remembered that sugar cube —what it looked like and felt like —and he had used the memory to solve many questions. He had built a mental representation of a cube.
Some people may consider physical representations more suitable for younger kids, but Boaler wrote at last, "Look at those Tesla engineers. They're drawing, they're building models, and nobody says that's basic mathematics."
(1)What is the result of narrow mathematics?
A.Worry and lack of success.
B.Good memory and performance.
C.Fear of teachers and the school.
D.Deep understanding of numbers.
(2)What is Boaler's idea about mathematics?
A.To teach numbers like words.
B.To connect it to the real world.
C.To bring it to summer camps.
D.To learn it out of the classroom.
(3)Why are Tesla engineers mentioned?
A.To praise the company.
B.To show their creativity.
C.To correct people's idea.
D.To set examples to younger kids.
7.(2024春 绍兴期末) Why should we explore space? Why should resources be spent on space rather than on conditions and people on Earth?Perhaps the best answer lies in our history. What made our ancestors move from the trees onto the plains?Did a wider distribution of our species offer a better chance of survival?
Nearly all successful civilizations have been willing to explore space. In exploring, the dangers of surrounding areas may be identified and prepared for.Without knowledge, these dangers have the ability to harm us.With knowledge, their effects may be decreased.
While many resources are spent on what seems a small return, the exploration of space allows new resources to be created.Resources translate into success at survival.Knowledge or techniques acquired in exploring always filter from the developers to the general population.Techniques may be medical applications, such as new drugs or ways of living to increase the quantity or the quality of time lived.Techniques may be social, allowing the people in a society to better understand those within or outside that culture.
European Space Agency (ESA) does what individual European nations cannot do on their own.Scientists from European nations can function at world﹣class level in their specialist fields,in co﹣operation rather than competition.By studying alien worlds, such as Venus,Mars or Saturn's moon Titan,we can place our own world in context.ESA's exploration of the Solar System is focused on understanding the Earth's relationship with the other planets, essential stepping stones for exploring the wider Universe.
While space may hold many wonders and explanations of how the universe was formed or how it works,it also holds dangers. The chance of a large asteroid or comet hitting the Earth is small. But given time,it will happen. The dangers exist and knowledge can allow us as a species to survive.Without the ability to reach out across space, the chance to save ourselves might not exist.
(1)Why does the author list questions in the first paragraph?
A.To stress the wide distribution of our species.
B.To introduce human's efforts to explore space.
C.To illustrate the importance of space exploration.
D.To highlight the long history of space exploration.
(2)What does space exploration enable humans to do?
A.Uncover the unknown resources of the universe.
B.Understand better about the culture of society.
C.Gain more knowledge about the origin of life.
D.Reduce the harmful impact on alien worlds.
(3)How does ESA work in space exploration?
A.It compares the Earth with other planets.
B.It focuses its study on a particular planet.
C.It advocates cooperative work of individual nations.
D.It encourages scientists to compete in their specialized fields.
(4)What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Exploring space means rescuing ourselves.
B.There is a small chance of comet hitting the Earth in future.
C.The formation of the universe requires further explanation.
D.Wonders about the universe reflect potential risks from space.
8.(2024春 亳州期末) Playtime in your childhood is closely connected to feelings of joy.Play shouldn't be dismissed as mere childishness(幼稚).Engaging in play goes beyond fun and games —it's a powerful tool for growth, learning, and healing. When children play,it's not just about having a good time;they're also actively developing life skills.
The roots of playfulness sprout(萌芽) early;even babies respond to interactions with their family, whether it's singing songs, gentle rocking,or active movement.Simple engagements like eye contact, smiles,or voices capture the attention of newborns, laying the foundation for essential connection, trust, and mutual play.Through these seemingly ordinary yet meaningful interactions, play begins.
When playing, children learn about themselves and others.Play serves as a dynamic training ground for trying new things —from running and jumping to planning and organizing.Children discover their inborn talents and develop self﹣confidence.
Engaging in positive play with others increases children's desire to connect with peers.Laughter and fun create lightness and bring healing powers.Harmonious play fights against laziness and stress.Importantly, when parents play with children,it reduces stress, serving as a way to take up challenges.
Playtime results in curiosity, causing the natural drive to learn. For instance, children playing "grocery store" uses math and problem﹣solving skills. In essence, play becomes a fun approach to learning.
Despite its many benefits, play has declined in recent years,a result of the swift life pace of parents. The consequences of a play﹣lacking childhood extend far beyond the immediate, impacting long﹣term well﹣being. The absence of fun social interactions hinders(妨碍) social development and allows stress to accumulate.Without play, opportunities to connect, learn, and experiment are cut back, killing creativity and restricting the development of essential life skills.
Among the demands and hustle(忙碌) of daily life,as parents,it's easy to overlook the value of play —not just for children but also for ourselves.Prioritizing(优先) play as an adult isn't a luxury;it's a vital component for a healthy and happy life.Beyond the joy it brings, play offers the same physical and mental benefits for adults as it does for children.Welcoming fun and laughter not only enriches our lives but also brings moments of joy into our families.
(1)What is mainly talked about babies in paragraph 2?
A.The methods of communication.
B.The interactions with parents.
C.The beginning of first play.
D.The ways to draw their attention.
(2)Why do children play less these years than before?
A.Because play is widely considered as childishness.
B.Because children have a huge academical burden.
C.Because no one benefits from play.
D.Because their parents are too busy.
(3)Who is the passage mainly intended for?
A.Parents.
B.Educators.
C.Children.
D.Doctors.
(4)Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A.The Benefits of Leisure
B.The Power of Play
C.The Advice for Parents
D.The growth of Children
9.(2024春 浦东新区校级期末) "The world's environment is surprisingly healthy.Discuss." If that were an examination topic, most students would tear it apart, offering a long list of complaints:from local smog to global climate change, from ….The list would largely be accurate, the concern reasonable.Yet the students who should be given the highest marks would actually be those who agreed with the statement. The surprise is how good things are,not how bad.
After all,the world's population has more than tripled during this century, and world output has risen hugely,so you would expect the earth itself to have been affected.Indeed,if people lived, consumed and produced things in the same way as they did in 1900 (or1950,or indeed 1980),the world by now would be a pretty disgusting place:smelly, dirty, toxic and dangerous.
But they don't.The reasons why they don't and why the environment has not been ruined, have to do with prices, technological innovation, social change and government regulation in response to popular pressure. That is why today's environmental problems in the poor countries ought,in principle,to be solvable.
Raw materials have not run out,and show no sign of doing so.Logically, one day they must:the planet is a finite place.Yet it is also very big,and man is very intelligent. What has happened is that every time a material seems to be running short, the price has risen and,in response, people have looked for new sources of supply, tried to find ways to use less of the material,or looked for a new substitute. For this reason, prices for energy and for minerals have virtually fallen during the century. The same is true for food.Prices fluctuate(波动),in response to harvests, natural disasters and political instability;and when they rise,it takes some time before new sources of supply become available. But they always do,assisted by new farming and crop technology. The long﹣term trend has been downwards.
It is where prices and markets do not operate properly that this sound trend begins to stumble(受挫),and the genuine problems arise.Markets cannot always keep the environment healthy. If no one owns the resource concerned,no one has an interest in conserving it or fostering it.
(1)According to the author, why would most students tear the test paper apart?
A.Because they find it challenging to answer the examination topic.
B.Because they maintain that the environment of the world is better than expected.
C.Because they feel the topic is against their knowledge of today's environmental problems.
D.Because they have no idea about the current situation of global environment.
(2)It can be inferred from the passage that the huge increase in world output and population .
A.has made the world a dangerous place to live in.
B.has significantly affected the environment.
C.has made the environment of poor nations unsolvable.
D.has played a minor role in affecting the environment.
(3)According to the passage, which of the following statement is TRUE?
A.There are few alternatives to raw materials in the world.
B.The long﹣term trend of prices for materials and food is downwards.
C.The price of energy fluctuates in response to change of food price.
D.Social stability can promote technological innovation.
(4)According to the author, what is the primary solution to environmental problems?
A.To allow market forces to operate properly.
B.To limit consumption of natural resources.
C.To control the growth of the world population.
D.To encourage technological innovation.
10.(2024春 新郑市校级期末) I ask every student I interview for admission to my institution,Pitzer College, the same question, "What do you look forward to the most in college?" I was amazed and delighted recently when a student sat across from me at a Starbucks in New York City and replied, "I look forward to the possibility of failure." Of course, this is not how most students respond to the question when sitting before the person who can make decisions about their academic futures, but this young man took a risk.
"You see,my parents have never let me fail," he said. "When I want to take a chance at something, they remind me it's not a safe route to take.Taking a more demanding (要求高的) course or trying an activity I may not succeed in,they tell me,will ruin my chances at college admission.Even the sacrifice of staying up late to do something unrelated to school, they see as a risk to my academic work and college success."
These days, finding imperfections in a college application is like looking for a needle in a haystack.Students try their best to hide factors they regard as negative and only tell us things they believe we will find impressive. This is supported by a secondary school culture where teachers are under pressure to give students nothing less than an A,and are told not to report disciplinary infractions (违纪) to colleges.Education agents in other countries are known to falsify student transcripts (成绩单),assuming that outstanding grades are the ticket to admission.
I've spent enough time in high schools to know teenagers will never be perfect. They do silly things, mess up,fall down, and lack confidence. The ability to bounce (回弹) back is an essential life skill students have to learn on their own.The lessons of failure can't be taught in a classroom;they are experienced and reflected upon.
Failure is about growth, learning, overcoming, and moving on.Let's allow young people to fail. Not only will they learn something,it might even get them into college.
(1)What can you infer about students in the author's interviews?
A.They usually try all out to display their strengths.
B.They usually express a desire to experience failure.
C.They usually take a risk so as to get admitted into college.
D.They usually complain about their parents' control over them.
(2)What can you learn from paragraph 3?
A.Students should make their college applications perfect.
B.Secondary school teachers don't like to give students A.
C.Secondary schools tend to help cover students' imperfections.
D.Outstanding scores will certainly ensure you a place in a college.
(3)According to the author, what quality may be expected from students by college professors?
A.The ability to learn outside class.
B.The ability to deal with failure.
C.The ability to be always confident.
D.The ability to learn on their own.
(4)What is the main idea of the passage?
A.Failure is the mother of success.
B.Teenagers are far from being perfect.
C.If you want to get into college, learn to fail.
D.If you want to impress interviewers, take a risk.
11.(2024春 来宾期末) When young,my parents took me to a zoo.I remember looking in admiration at two bears in a cage.Things have changed. My kids would be afraid to see animals in cages.Today,we expect animals to be held in more natural environment, and for zoos to do more to make the world a better place.
Zoos can host great conservation (保护) work.Sometimes they hold and protect endangered animals.About 40 seriously endangered animal species exist mainly in zoos. They are used for study,to start reproducing (繁殖) programs and even to reintroduce the animals to the wild. But not many zoos do enough of this.I support the recommendation of some researchers that zoos should spend at least 10% of their money on biodiversity (生物多样性) conservation.Sadly,a 1999 study showed an average spending of only 0.1%.
If zoos totally concentrate on protection,we might expect them to mostly house threatened species. But many zoos focus on the big animals that draw audiences to make money.I say that's inappropriate (不合适的).I don't mean zoos shouldn't be a business.Since care of animals can be extremely expensive,it's reasonable for zoos to open their doors to earn some money,as long as animals are kept in acceptable conditions.
Visiting animals in real life helps develop an appreciation for the natural world.Virtual﹣reality (VR) glasses and movies about wildlife are worthwhile, but not the same.A friend of mine who works in the Amazon puts it this way: "To love the forest, you need to smell the forest."
Conservation should come first for all zoos, together with education and research.Without that,a zoo becomes just a business:one that the world would be better off without.
(1)How did the author feel when seeing two bears in a cage in his childhood?
A.He was scared of the scene.
B.He felt worried about his safety.
C.He felt sad about the caged bears.
D.He was amazed by the wonder of animals.
(2)What does the underlined word "this" in paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Protecting endangered animals properly.
B.Keeping animals in more natural conditions.
C.Holding non﹣threatened species in much greater numbers.
D.Spending part of their money on biodiversity conservation.
(3)What does the author's friend imply in his words?
A.VR helps zoos to make money.
B.Animals should live in the wild.
C.VR enables viewers to know more about wildlife.
D.Visiting animals in real life is a necessary experience.
(4)What is the best title for the text?
A.Zoos need to be changed.
B.Zoos should be not allowed.
C.Zoos shouldn't be a business.
D.Animals shouldn't be kept in zoos.
12.(2024春 保定期末) There are always two sides to a story.Unfortunately, when it comes to the history of Thanksgiving, generations of Americans have been taught a one﹣sided history in homes and schools.
The mainstream cultural and historical story has been told by the white settlers(殖民者)who landed near Plymouth Rock in Massachusetts in 1620.In this version(版本) of the Thanksgiving story, the holiday celebrates the peaceful, friendly meeting of English settlers and the Wampanoag tribe(部落) for three days of feasting and thanksgiving in 1621.
This story paints a picture of courageous settlers braving the dangers of the New World and with the help of some friendly natives, finding a way to make a new life for themselves.Very few teachers get a chance to tell students about the mass killing of native tribes that took place in the years that followed.
For many Native Americans,Thanksgiving is a day of mourning(哀悼) and protest.Organised by the United American Indians of New England in1970,the fourth Thursday in November(Thanksgiving) was recognised as the National Day of Mourning for Native Americans.
While some Native Americans have chosen to reject the Thanksgiving holiday completely, many welcome the positive messages of the holiday without consideration of its origin. This is because the idea of giving thanks is central to Native Americans' culture, and in this way,Thanksgiving is simply a chance to appreciate the good things of life, like family, community, and the riches of the land.
Steven Peters,a Wampanoag tribe spokesman, was asked about his views on Thanksgiving and the fact that most Native Americans still gather to eat turkey and give thanks.
"I think it's great. My ancestors had four harvest festivals throughout the year.Gathering with family and giving thanks for all that we have is a good thing. But I ask that you take a moment on that day to remember what happened to my people and the history as it was and not what had been written in the history books."

13.(2024春 华容县期末) I am a big laugher.I've been told that even in a room of a thousand people, you can always hear me laughing over the crowd. For me,laughter is the ultimate form of embodied joy.And by "embodied",I mean that my whole body is involved when I laugh. On the inside,it's like a bubbling fountain of joy spilling out all over the place.
But what is joy,anyway?
Life can be terrible, but if you decide to follow the sound of the joy﹣fountain, you will find joy showing up in all kinds of places:pets playfully bouncing around, kindness,or even in nothingness.
How can joy be found?A friend moved into a new apartment and needed some help,so I helped him.Afterwards,he was obviously so much happier and at case.I noticed that playing even a small part in his happiness brought me great joy,and I took a moment to let this feeling of embodied joy in.We can practice letting joy in by noticing how it feels to smile.Where does your body light up when you smile? When I smile,it makes me want to take a deep breath, and I notice my shoulders and belly relaxing. When I embody caring and loving,it feels great!
Sadly, many of us are unaware of joy,or suspicious of it.Maybe you arc afraid to open up to joy,or maybe you are so unfamiliar with what joy feels like that you ignore or resist it when it comes knocking. No one, other than you, owns your happiness, but you might unknowingly block feelings or experiences that help you embody joy.The fact is that when you can't embody joy,you miss out on one of life's essential vitamins.
Want more joy?Don't be afraid to look silly.Silliness helps us take things less personally. It helps us see the world the way a kid does. When we can find more joy in the smalls of everyday life,we can embody happiness, rather than just pursuing it.
(1)How is the topic of joy introduced at the beginning of the passage?
A.By highlighting a joyful experience.
B.By stressing the importance of laughing.
C.By presenting an ultimate form of satisfaction.
D.By sharing the author's understanding of joy.
(2)What might be the author's advice on finding joy?
A.Taking a deep breath.
B.Smiling to your friends.
C.Doing small acts of kindness.
D.Reflecting on nothingness.
(3)What might be the reason for many of us missing joy?
A.That many of us refuse it on purpose.
B.That many of us are insensitive to joy.
C.That many of us lack life's essential vitamins.
D.That many of us are likely to take joy for granted.
(4)What is the best title of the text?
A.Life is the creation of joy
B.A happy man always laughs last
C.People are always unaware of joy
D.Happy people are happy in childhood
14.(2024春 渝中区校级期末) Happiness is an idea that has been woven (编织) into the fabric of humanity, going back to ancient civilizations.
Although we've struggled with it for hundreds of years, the concept of happiness and how to attain it remains pretty complex. Some might see it as having a sense of general well﹣being. For others,it might be feeling a spark of pure joy.Yet others might find happiness chasing a dream and reaching it.It might be some combination of these —or something else entirely.
A challenging question is,what are the best ways to pursue happiness? Are we born with a stable, set level,or is it something we can develop, increase and strengthen? If it's the latter, how can we successfully go about it?
Even though "the pursuit of Happiness" is built into the country's founding,it seems that many Americans are just not that good at it.In the most recent World Happiness Report,America dropped to No.23 (from No.15 the previous year),marking the first time in the report's 12﹣year history that the US was not in the top 20 happiest countries.
It's not just Americans. As it turns out, humans as a species may not excel at happiness. This may surprise you,but happiness is not necessarily something that we are genetically primed to get.We have to really work at it.
"If anything, natural selection kind of doesn't really care about our happiness that much.I mean, natural selection's job is just to keep us alive and keep us around to reproduce. And I think it does that not by making us feel these moments of contentment but maybe just the opposite," cognitive (认知的) scientist Dr.Laurie Santos said recently.
"It does that by building in a negativity bias (偏见).So we're just a little bit worried that there could be a tiger around the corner. And we're kind of constantly on the alert for that," she said.
(1)What do we learn about happiness from paragraph 2?
A.It is hard to define.
B.It is difficult to attain.
C.It is central to health.
D.It is a shared goal.
(2)Why does the author mention America in paragraph 4?
A.To prove Americans are not good at pursuing happiness.
B.To stress that life satisfaction is a general trend.
C.To show the influence of social development.
D.To reveal the truth of human unhappiness.
(3)What does the underlined word "primed" in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A.Taught.
B.Prepared.
C.Intended.
D.Encouraged.
(4)How does natural selection affect us according to Dr.Laurie?
A.It brings about fierce competition.
B.It strengthens our ability to feel joy.
C.It increases our moments of contentment.
D.It ensures our survival through negative biases.
15.(2024春 南开区期末) Pruning(剪枝) is something that can confuse a lot of gardeners, such as when to prune plants and how to do so.There are two main schools of thought when it comes to pruning in a garden. The most common idea is that we should prune plants according to relatively strict guidelines on an annual basis,or even more frequently. The second school of thought is from Masanobu Fukuoka's "do nothing" approach —farming involves letting nature take the controls and intervening(干涉) as little as possible. But there is,in my opinion,a much more important question, and that is whether you should prune much at all.
For me,the most important thing in making this decision is how we quantify(量化) the benefit.I personally fall somewhere between the two positions outlined above.I do prune plants in my forest garden and in other parts of my property, but not as much or as often as traditional gardeners may suggest.
I prune plants with the well﹣being of the plants in mind.I do not have a lot of time for pruning which is only to make the plants beautiful,or simply to keep things tidy. When I prune plants,I see myself as fulfilling an ecosystem service that,in the wild, animals may provide.Through pruning and other jobs,I can, like other creatures within the natural ecosystem, change things a little for my own needs, while also taking steps to safeguard the system as a whole.
Finding that fine line between embracing nature and making the most of the space may mean that some pruning is required.I would always begin by removing any dead or damaged material. But when it comes to further pruning,I take a much more holistic approach. I may occasionally prune trees to let more light through to plantings below. But often,I will let things get a little wild and spend more time observing than intervening in my garden.
(1)Why does the author mention two schools of thought at the beginning?
A.To bring up the topic of the text.
B.To point out gardeners' difficult situations.
C.To compare the benefits of two methods of pruning.
D.To serve as the background information of the text.
(2)What does the author say about pruning?
A.There is too much difficulty in pruning.
B:Pruning is needed but not too much.
C.Pruning should be done regularly.
D.There is no need to prune at all.
(3)What does the author mainly consider when pruning plants?
A.The beauty of the garden.
B.The protection of the animals.
C.The balance of the ecosystem.
D.The tidiness of the environment.
(4)What does the author mean by saying "I take a much more holistic approach"?
A.He makes no change to plantings.
B.He adopts strict guidelines offered by experts.
C.He takes the whole situation into account.
D.He develops various methods of improving production.
(5)What is the best title of the text?
A.The Problem That Confuses Many Gardeners
B.My Approach to Pruning in the Garden
C.Different Opinions on Pruning in the Garden
D.The Balance Between the Ecosystem and Human Needs

A.Encountered huge barriers.
B.Achieved remarkable progress.
C.Posed considerable challenges.
D.Exhibited significant limitations.
(3)What is identified as a significant potential benefit of AI translation? D
A.It can ensure the accuracy of translations.
B.It can save a large amount of financial investment.
C.It can facilitate the process of learning foreign languages.
D.It can expand access to literature from different cultures.
(4)What is the author's attitude towards the use of AI in fiction translation? A
A.Objective.

A.It can promote communications between people.
B.It could bring damage to partners' relationships.
C.It will weaken one's ability in solving problems.
D.It enables one to share common views with others.
(2)What does the author agree with according to paragraph 3? C
A.Focusing on self﹣centred competition.
B.Reducing the possibility of success.
C.Pursuing individual goals effectively.
D .Accepting teammates' shortcomings.
(4)What is author's intention to write the article? A
A.To encourage a teamwork spirit in children.

(1)Regarding "maths anxiety" in paragraph 1,the author thinks C .
A.it is unique
B.it is formal
C.it is common
D.it is necessary
(2)What can be inferred from paragraph 2? D
A.Girls are better at maths than boys.
B.Maths classes are difficult for all students.
C.Students' anxiety results entirely from teachers.
D.Confidence in maths needs developing in childhood.
(3)What will be a potential result if one thinks he is not a 'maths person'? C
A.He will rise to challenges.
B.He will learn maths harder.
C.He will be doubtful about his ability.
D.He will not see maths as a threat.
(4)What are children advised to do according to the last paragraph? B
A.Track sources of maths fear regularly.
B.Speak fears out for improvement bravely.
C.Explore causes of failure in maths carefully.
D.Quit challenges to avoid anxiety actively.

Some people love the challenge of working out maths problems, but many fear the moment when they have to deal with numbers and figures and feel a real sense of worry. It can seem discouraging, but this "maths anxiety"is perfectly normal, and you're definitely not alone.
The problem really starts in childhood,at school.Research has found that maths teachers who are nervous about teaching the subject can pass on their anxiety to the pupils, and girls may be more likely to be affected. (这个问题在儿童时期,在学校就开始了。研究发现,在教学过程中感到紧张的数学老师会把他们的焦虑传递给学生,而女孩可能更容易受到影响。)以及Shulamit Kahn, from Boston University's Questrom School of Business, told the BBC she believes giving students, particularly girls, good role models "is significant, especially at a young age".She thinks the key is to get people, especially women who love teaching maths,to teach younger children.(波士顿大学奎斯特罗姆商学院的舒拉米特 卡恩告诉BBC,她认为给学生,尤其是女孩树立好榜样'很重要,尤其是在年轻的时候'。她认为,关键是让人们,尤其是那些热爱数学教学的女性,去教更年幼的孩子。)可知,对数学的信心需要在儿童时期培养。故选D。
(3)细节理解题。根据第三段中And once we assume we're not a 'maths person',we avoid solving things that we probably could do.( 一旦我们认为自己不是一个'数学人'",我们就会避免解决我们可能会做的事情。)可知,如果一个人认为自己不是数学人,他可能会对自己的能力产生怀疑。故选C。
(4)细节理解题。根据最后一段中That fear may come from many sources, but some suggest that expressing your fears clearly can loosen their hold on you,and encourage children to see a maths test as a challenge, not a threat (威胁).We need to think positively about maths and give it a second chance.( 这种恐惧的来源可能有很多,但一些人认为,清楚地表达你的恐惧可以放松它们对你的控制,并鼓励孩子将数学考试视为挑战,而不是威胁。
If there was an app claiming to improve your memory, would you be willing to try it?It's hard to resist the idea of having a better memory.
A.In testing results.
B.In work processes.
C.In bodily functions.
D.In training methods.
(2)What is the main feature of the typical tasks in memory training apps? C
A.Simple.
B.Effective.
C.Demanding.
D.Interesting.
(3)What do critics think memory training apps lack? B
A.Legal claims.
B.Proven effects.
C.Tailored services.
D.Appealing concepts
(4)What can be the suitable title for the text? B
A.Can Our Memory be Improved?
B.Does Brain Training Actually Work?
C.What have Scientists Found about Memory?
D.What does the Brain Training Industry Bring?
【答案】DCBB
【分析】本文是议论文,文章对经过良好设计的大脑练习能够改善记忆力的有效性进行讨论。

(2)细节理解题。根据第三段In contrast to everyday activities like solving a complex puzzle, memory training apps are specifically designed to provide a more challenging workout for the brain. These apps typically involve tasks that require tracking a large number of objects while being distracted by a secondary task, such as mental calculations or exploring a game's landscape.(与解决复杂谜题等日常活动不同,记忆训练应用程序是专门为大脑提供更具挑战性的锻炼而设计的。
Critics,though,argue that while the concept is appealing, the overall evidence fails to demonstrate significant improvement in core brain processes. (然而,批评者认为,尽管这个概念很吸引人,但总体证据未能证明大脑核心过程有显著改善。)可知,批评者认为记忆训练应用程序缺乏经过证实的效果,故选B。
(4)标题归纳题。根据最后一段While the question is still open to debate, there is evidence suggesting that short﹣term working memory training can benefit high﹣functioning individuals. However,it's important to note that brain training, like diet and exercise,is unlikely to have identical effects on every individual.(虽然这个问题仍然存在争议,但有证据表明,短期工作记忆训练可以使高功能个体受益。然而,重要的是要注意,大脑训练就像饮食和锻炼一样,不可能对每个人都有相同的效果。)可知,文章的话题是通过手机应用程
