“Good morning, passengers! Welcome aboard Bus No.38.” At 6:30 a.m., the cool morning
breeze blows as Feng Zhiliang, a 43-year-old driver with 15 years’ experience at Handan Public
Transport, greets the first passengers. Seated in the driver’s cab, he fastens his seatbelt, ready to
set off.
Feng’s recent viral video comes from his bilingual (双语的 ) stop announcements in
Chinese and English, captivating netizens. Some remark, “It’s like a luxurious flight for just
two yuan!”, praising Handan’s harmonious combination of tradition and modernity.
This transformation started when Feng greeted a group of foreign passengers with “Hello.
Happy New Year!” during the Spring Festival. Encouraged by their positive feedback, he saw
an opportunity to serve the many foreigners riding his bus. Determined to improve
communication, Feng started an English learning journey.
Starting from zero, he was buried in online courses, sought English materials, and used
translation software to enhance his skills. Today, his bilingual announcements reflect his
dedication and Handan’s cultural charm.
Each evening, after dropping off his last passengers, Feng returned home around 9:00 p.m.,
exhausted but determined. Despite his tiredness, he’d continue studying for an hour, even
making the best of his 20-minute break.
Inspired by his colleagues and after three years of unstopped preparation, Feng boldly
tried bilingual announcements during peak hours in early 2023. Initially nervous, he received
overwhelming encouragement from passengers, strengthening his resolve to make bilingual

Feng recalled. “It’s become a goal and a cherished wish.”
Now, over a year and a half later, Feng’s bilingual announcements have gathered a
devoted fan base. Passengers eagerly board the No.38 bus to immerse themselves in his
enriching language experience, while parents bring their children along for the educational ride.

A race is on in solar engineering to create almost impossibly-thin, flexible solar panels.
Stanford University researchers announced they have achieved record efficiencies in a
promising class of new materials, which can be thinner than a piece of paper.
According to the study published in the journal Nature Communications, it uses a new
material called “transition metal dichalcogenides” (TMDs). They absorb incredibly high
volumes of sunlight that reach their surface compared to other solar materials.
“Imagine an autonomous drone that powers itself with a solar panel atop its wing that is
less than six micrometers thick.” said Koosha Nassiri Nazif, co-lead author of the study.
Slimming down is necessary because the king of solar materials, silicon, is much too
heavy, large and rigid for applications where flexibility, lightweight and high power are
高二英语 第 5 页 共 12 页
{#{QQABKYaEogiIAAJAARhCQQUICkEQkBECCSoOwFAcoAABwBFABAA=}#}
important and excellent.
While TMDs hold great promise, research experiments to date have struggled to change
more than 2% of the sunlight they absorb into electricity. But the scientists believe they could
practically reach 27% efficiency with electrical improvements. That would be comparable with
today’s top solar panels, silicon included.
Nazif told Forbes that the new materials are great candidates for next-generation
electronics and solar cells. Chipmakers like Intel and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing
Company are already considering TMDs for their future technology. They could be used in a
variety of mobile applications, including self-powered wearable devices and sensors, as well as
giving a boost to lightweight airplanes and electric cars.
The ultra-thinness does come with engineering challenges, primarily in mass production.
When transferring such a layer of TMD to a flexible, supporting material, the TMD layer is
frequently damaged.
But the team thinks it is possible to overcome these challenges. Should they succeed, it
could change solar power as we know it. “Silicon makes up 95 percent of the solar market
today.” Nazif told Forbes. “This is why we aren’t seeing these applications for solar cells today;
TMDs are going to change the landscape.”
28. What is the biggest advantage of TMDs now
A. They are comparable to top silicon panels.
B. They have the quality of remarkable thinness.
C. They can efficiently turn sunlight into energy.
D. They have excellent ability to reflect sunlight.
29. What does Nazif stress in paragraph 6
A. The future prospects of TMDs.
B. The expectation for future tech.
C. The appeal of TMDs to chipmakers.
D. The wide applications of solar energy.
30. What can we expect of new solar panels in the future
A. They could power all mobile devices.
B. They will revolutionize the chip market.
C. They could be a competitive alternative.
D. They will be produced on a large scale soon.
31. Which of the following is the best title of this passage
A. Silicon: Competitive Materials for Solar Market
B. TMDs: Lightweight Materials for Future Solar Panels
C. Chipmakers: Obstacles to Solar Panels Commercialization
D. Nature Communications: Efficient Solar Panels Application

Perhaps you’ve seen a giant sculpture of a fork, and wondered, how on earth is this art
I’ll bet you didn’t dare ask it out loud, for fear of looking awkward. Luckily for us, Bianca
Bosker is willing to dive into the art world in Get the Picture, where she explores the spiritual
richness art itself provides.
She sets out to develop what art lovers call an Eye, a keen perception to separate the
“good” art from the “bad”. She finds out that the art world can be tough for people who can’t
afford art school and there’s a lot of mean behavior from those at the upper levels of the art
world.
Even though Bosker’s experiences might make you feel less sure about art, she keeps
looking deeper and finds out that art can make people happy, whether they’re creating it or just
looking at it.
While expanding on the meaning of art, Bosker demonstrates that our brains have a “filter
(过滤器)” that helps us quickly understand the world around us. This filter lets us ignore some
things and focus on others. This filter allows us to take mental shortcuts and dismiss certain
visual details to rapidly process our chaotic environment.
One function of art, Bosker writes, is to remove this filter to reexamine the world with
renewed wonder. Art has a curing quality, a fact that’s seized upon by doctors who will ask the
patients to visit art museums. Over two dozen medical schools require students to study
paintings to avoid jumping to conclusions. Instead of lecturing from an authoritative angle,
Bosker lets readers witness at eye level her growing clarity of art’s function.
In the end, readers don’t get a complete answer for humankind’s fascination with art.
Bosker instead offers her own interpretation: Art is a way to find beauty and heighten our
appreciation for life. In laying bare the truth of an “Eye”, Bosker argues that art is everywhere
and can be anything, as long as we’re open to letting what we see move us. By the last page,
you’ll be forced to revisit that fork sculpture and behold the artwork with fresh eyes.
32. What is the main purpose of Get the Picuture
A. To criticize the sculpture art world. B. To argue that art has no curing quality.
C. To explain how to appreciate art. D. To prove that art has no spiritual value.
33. What does the underlined word “Eye” in paragraph 2 mean
A. The ability to perceive art critically. B. The way artists sign their won work.
C. A type of art school training program. D. A physical condition that affects vision.
34. Which of the following statements would Bosker most likely agree with
A. Art is limited to traditional artworks.
B. Art can enhance the filter of our brain.
C. Art therapy works better than taking medicine.
D. Art has the power to affect us emotionally in various forms.

Jasmine lived on a small farm with her parents and her sister Grace. They were poor and
made a living by selling animals, but they treated the creatures very kindly. Jasmine was quite a
help to her parents. She loved riding horses and caring for them. Of all the horses, Madeline
was her favorite. She was a white horse with beautiful locks of golden hair. She was the
swiftest horse in the stable (马厩 ). Jasmine always dreamt of riding Madeline in a race and
winning it.
Life had been harder for the poor family recently because the business had made losses.
All they could do to support their daily life was to sell a horse. Jasmine was not at all happy
with this idea. She thought about what to do for a long time, to see if she could come up with
an alternative solution.
One day, she saw an advertisement in the local newspaper for a horse race. The winner of
the race would get $1,000. She thought that she and Madeline could enter the race. She told
Grace about her idea and Grace was also happy with it. They went to the race organizer and
added Madeline’s name to the list of horses running in the race. The organizer told them that
the race was in eleven days’ time.

The next day, during a routine check, the two girls noticed that Madeline seemed to have
lost some color from her face. “She looks pale and unwell,” Grace said, with a worried look.
She began stroking her mane (鬃毛 ). “You’re right, Grace. Go and call mother while I get
Madeline some water,” said Jasmine. Grace ran off to inform their mother. Meanwhile,
Madeline was getting paler. Grace returned shortly with their mother, who phoned a vet
immediately. The vet came quickly and after checking Madeline over, said that she was ill. The
whole family was very worried as Madeline’s health continued to get worse. She could hardly
eat anything. Madeline’s situation broke Jasmine’s heart. Her only wish was that Madeline
would soon get better.

参考范文 1
Whenever Jasmine had time, she went to check on Madeline and take care of her. Despite
her worsening health, Jasmine continued to give her medicines as the vet had instructed and
stroked her mane affectionately to comfort her. Madeline seemed to be struck by her love and
showed signs of recovery after a week of attentive care. She started getting her strength back
and was not pale anymore. The vet called again to check on Madeline. Much to Jasmine’s relief
and excitement, he declared in disbelief that the horse had recovered. The next four days
witnessed their tireless training for the race. Gradually, they cooperated more smoothly and
performed better and better.
On the day of the race, Jasmine headed to the race course with Madeline. There were
many horses there, but apparently Madeline was the most eye-catching one, with her locks of
golden hair. The whistle blown, the race kicked off. Madeline dashed forward like an arrow.
Jasmine held the reins tightly, the wind howling in her ears. Occasionally, Jasmine whispered
to Madeline to encourage her. Eventually, they became the first pair to reach the finish line,
where her family stood cheering and applauding. So delighted was Jasmine that she couldn’t
help crying. With the prize money she had won, her family wouldn’t need to sell a horse and
Madeline became their hero.
参考范文 2
Whenever Jasmine had time, she went to check on Madeline and take care of her. Every
time Madeline refused to eat or drink, Jasmine would pat her on the back gently, stroke her
mane tenderly and whisper words of encouragement softly in her ear. Perhaps touched by her
master's affection, Madeline started to eat. Slowly, she regained her strength, her pale face
turning rosy and her lifeless eyes becoming shiny. Ten days later,Madeline was in fine fettle
again. Throwing her arms around the neck of her beloved horse, Jasmine shed tears of joy.
Mounting her horse, she was sure they were ready for the race.
On the day of the race, Jasmine headed to the race course with Madeline. When the
whistle blew, all the horses darted forward. Considering Madeline had just recovered from
severe illness, Jasmine was cautious with speed and, therefore, they fell way behind. Abruptly,
Madeline let out a gentle neigh as if asking Jasmine to speed up. Aware of her intention,
Jasmine pulled the reins tightly and they began to tear at full speed. Shooting past one horse
after another,Madeline and Jasmine were eventually the first to reach the finish line. Holding
the prize money, Jasmine shouted with excitement and clasped Madeline's neck, seeing the
prospect of a better life.

M: You look like you have lost weight.
W: Yeah, I have been staying up late a lot for my essay. It’s really hard.
M: Just hang in there! It will be worth it when you’re done.
(Text 3)
W:Thank you for helping me with this job.
M: No problem at all. I actually enjoy doing this. Could you pass me the paint I think we can
start painting the second time now.
W: Wow, my place sure looks different with light blue walls.
(Text 4)
W:Welcome back, Mr. Rogers. Would you like the same style as last time
M: Actually, I’d like a different look this month. Could you make it a lot shorter on top
W: Very well. Don’t move your head please. These scissors are extremely sharp.
(Text 5)
M: I didn’t expect such a large audience at the stadium given the terrible weather.
W: Yeah. It was pretty exciting. The last-minute scoring was incredible.
M: Definitely, I can’t believe that player jumped that high.
(Text 6)
M:Did you go out with your family yesterday, Marcia
W: We’d planned to go to the park, but then the weather forecast said it was going to be rainy
and windy, so we didn’t organize anything and just watched a film on TV. But it turned out that
forecast was unreliable, wasn’t it
M: Yeah. I went to the beach for a while. It was great to be outside in warm sunshine. There
weren't many people around.

M: Good morning. I’m here for Anne-Marie Kidman’s first solo show. I’m wondering if the
gallery offers any tours.
W:The next available guided tour starts at 4 p.m. Would you like me to book you in
M: I don’t think I can hang around until the evening. That’s a shame, as I’ve been looking
forward to viewing art with an expert guide.
W: I’m sorry, all the other sessions are fully booked. The exhibit has been a huge hit since it’s
not common to see free contemporary art exhibitions in this town. However, there are
self-guided tours if you’re interested. You can get more information from our customer service.
M: Perfect. I’ll look into that.
(Text 8)
W: Xander, I am about to go collect the assistant manager from the ferry terminal. Have you
completed the report I asked you for
M: I’m still not finished because I need to replace all of the graphs with updated data.
W: Don’t worry, I already updated all the data.

M: Does something not look right
W: Umm. Well, it doesn’t match our current figures.
M: I will double-check before we present the data.
W: Oh, okay. Well, I have to leave now, so I can't be of any help. It all falls on you!
M: You can count on me. Did you want me to make copies of the meeting agenda
W:No, that isn't necessary. Will you please send the agenda to my secretary She will make
sure to combine it with the other documents in a folder.

M: Hello,Ella. Now you’re only 17, but you have become a well-known violinist. When did
you start playing
W: I started playing at five. When I was nine, I led a band for the first time, and then last year, I
came first in Young Musician of the Year.
M: Who persuaded you to spend so much time practicing
W:My friends think I’m mad. My teacher thinks it’s very important to practice and is always
encouraging me to do more. My parents support me but don’t tell me what to do.
M: Is there anything else you do to improve your playing
W: I sometimes go to the gym. I should eat healthy food. Releasing tension while I play is key,
though.
M: Do you think classical music has helped you through some difficult teenage years
W: Probably. I think most teenagers don’t give classical music a chance. I don’t expect
everyone to learn to play classical music or listen to it. I just wish they had a more open mind
about it.

W.Good morning, students.I’m Mrs.Khramer, the head librarian. Now, let me tell you about our
library. It’s in the building behind the Administration Building, where we are now. The hall
here is larger than any room at the library so we’re meeting here. Next to me are my three
assistants. On the left is Mary and on the right is Gina. Between them is Daniel. Gina is in
charge of the computer lab and you should see her to reserve time on any of our computers. She
also needs some help, so if you’re interested in computers and would like a few hours of work,
please see her. Mary is in charge of keeping all the books. Daniel is the head of our reference
department. He can be of assistance when you’re researching subjects or writing papers. The
hours are on the paper you were given when you came in. But sometimes we’re open on special
hours. For example, during family week when your parents are invited to visit the school, we’re
open every evening. We like to think of the library as a place where people come for a place to
study. If you like a lot of conversation, then the Student Center is the place for that. Mary, Gina
and Daniel will show you around the library and explain everything to you later. Welcome to
school and we hope to see you often in the library.
