Germany may be famous for its history and culture, and it also houses some of Europe's most wild and wonderful scenery. Here are four parks worth visiting.
Berchtesgaden Nature Park
Berchtesgaden is one of Germany's oldest and most beautiful conservation areas. Trails go in and out of the forest, leading you along the banks of glassy lakes. The more adventurous visitors may choose paragliding (滑翔伞运动). Back on the ground, a network of more than 150 miles of walking trails goes through the forest.
Jasmund Nature Park
It lies on the west coast of the offshore island of Rügen. This protected site is the smallest of Germany's national park. It is here that painter Caspar David Friedrich found himself inspired to create one of his masterpieces, Chalk Cliffs on Rügen, in 1818. Here long trails can take you all the way to the Rügen coastline, where white-sand beaches and blue waters wait for you.
The Bliesgau Biosphere
This place is home to almost half of all German flower species. The grasslands spread for miles, drawing different butterflies. Thanks to its comfortable climate, this is an area of sustainable development. In fact, this park is an example of farming done right and offers a wealth of agricultural know-how to anyone eager to learn.
Southern Black Forest Nature Park
The highland areas, with views over Switzerland and France, are a good place for food-lovers. Activities in the park range from hiking and fishing to mountain biking, while the slower travelers will enjoy the trails for an escape from everyday life.

My wife and I were down at the beach and trying to find a place to park in one of the many, and somewhat expensive, public parking lots. We were trying to get down to the beach in time to watch the sunset—one of my all time favorite things to do. After several failed attempts, we finally found one spot in the last lot so we pulled into the only space available.
As we were about to pay the price of parking there, a woman came up to us and said she had just paid for two hours (all the time we needed) but she had just been called back home and asked if we would like to have her parking pass. She refused to take any money for it and insisted that we take it. We gladly accepted it and thanked her for her kindness.
It was truly a “paying it forward” experience that we have often done, but one that hasn't been done to us that often. I smiled at her with such gratitude. It was more than the price of the parking pass. Accepting the kindness of others is part of this process. We felt that and blessed by that kindness.
We got down to the beach in time to watch the sun setting because of this woman's kindness and we were so grateful. It was a wonderful experience and the sunset was such a wonderful sight!
24.What problem did the author meet at the beach?( )
A.He couldn't afford the parking fee. B.He didn't find time to watch sunset.
C.He failed to find a good place to relax. D.He met with difficulty when parking his car.
25.Why did the woman give her parking pass to the author?( )
A.It would be out of date soon.
B.She had to go home quickly.
C.It offered too short a parking period.
D.She expected the author to watch the sunset on time.
26.What does the underlined word “gratitude” in Paragraph 3 mean?( )
A.Apology. B.Appreciation. C.Regret. D.Sadness.
27.Which can be the best title for the text?( )
A.The Gift of a Sunset B.A Hard Parking
C.The Beauty of Dawn D.A Woman's Bad Luck
C
Americans love their national parks. Last year, these lands attracted 331 million people. Visitors expect to be provided with roads, bridges, restrooms and more. The more people come, the more it costs to keep up the infrastructure (基础设施).
Unfortunately, the funds needed are not enough. The national parks have a backlog of more than $11 billion in things that need to be repaired or replaced. The Interior Department has proposed a solution: higher fees.
The increase would apply at 17 of the most popular parks, including Yellowstone and Acadia, during peak months. Currently, a seven-day pass costs $25 or $30 for a carload of parents and kids. Under this proposal, the fee would rise to $70 for each vehicle, with each motorcycle charged $50 and cyclists $30 per person.
That $70 may sound steep, but for a family of four spending a week inside, it works out to $2.50 per person per day. A one-day ticket at the gate for Great America, by comparison, costs $54.99 for children and $74.99 for adults. And let's not even talk about Walt Disney World. For most people, the additional cost would be a tiny part of their total outlay. Studies show that entrance fees make up only 1.2 to 1.5 percent of visitors' total trip expense.
The proposed change would yield $70 million, a 34 percent increase. And visitors may be happy to know that 80 percent of each fee they pay will go to the park they visited.
Nature provides Americans with the wonders of these parks for free. But making them accessible and enjoyable for millions of people costs money and the administration has a sound idea for how to get it.
28.What is the text mainly about?( )
A.American national parks raised their entrance fees.
B.American national parks are cheaper to visit than others.
C.Americans love their national parks more than other people.
D.Entrance fees make up a small percent of visitors' trip expense.
29.What does the underlined word “backlog” in Paragraph 2 mean?( )
A.Something strange. B.Something unfinished.
C.Something important. D.Something unnecessary.
30.What can we learn from Paragraph 4?( )
A.The increase is so much. B.Effect of the increase is obvious.
C.The increase is acceptable. D.Opinions about the increase are different.
31.What are visitors happy to know?( )
A.They will receive more service.
B.They can stay longer in the parks.
C.The money they pay will be used on the park.
D.The money they pay will be used to help the homeless.

Liao Wentao, a pet undertaker, put the body of 2-year-old Garfield on a small bed surrounded by flowers. Then he let the cat's owner say a last goodbye before cremation (火化). “We send off 400 to 500 pets each year, and there's a great demand for pet funerals,” he told China News.
Keeping pets has become a trend for young people in China and people are more than willing to pay for whatever their pets need. From 2019 to 2021, China's pet market grew by almost 18% and hit 348.8 billion yuan in value in 2021, according to a report by Research Consulting Group.
As the pet economy develops, animal lovers' various needs have boosted the emergence and development of related businesses such as bathing, pet food, pet beauty and healthcare.
In addition to basic services, pet owners are increasingly paying for many new services, such as training, pet funerals, insurance, photography and entertainment. The growing pet market has also given birth to a large number of new pet-related jobs, noted CCTV News.
Liu Wei, 33, is a famous pet detective in Shanghai. He and his team work on finding families' lost pets. “We have successfully helped find more than 1,000 pets. Besides cats and dogs, there are other pets like birds, lizards and hamsters,” Liu said. “In many big cities, cats and dogs have become an important part of many families and are taken good care of.So what we look for are not just pets, but family members.”
Apart from pet undertakers and detectives, some people work as pet food testers, pet sitters and pet trainers. According to Tu Di, secretary—general of the Hunan Pet Industry Association, the booming pet market shows people's improved living standards.
However, there are also problems with the industry, for example, the high fees of taking pets to the vet (兽医). Many pet owners have called for stricter pricing regulations for pet medical services, reported Global Times.
32.Why is Liao's story mentioned in the first paragraph?( )
A.To introduce the topic. B.To teach readers a lesson.
C.To sum up the main idea. D.To involve readers in a story.
33.How does the author show the pet market is growing?( )
A.By introducing an argument. B.By telling some true stories.
C.By giving numbers and examples. D.By focusing on basic pet-related services.
34.What is Tu Di's attitude toward the booming pet market?( )
A.Negative. B.Positive. C.Doubtful. D.Indifferent.
35.What concern is the growing pet industry bringing about?( )
A.The low quality of services. B.The rapid growth of the industry.
C.The lack of related regulations. D.The various needs of animal lovers.

The U.S. has over 400 national parks across the country. If you thought national parks were just a common place to visit for recreational activities, you might want to think again. Here are some reasons why national parks are great.
Biodiversity (生物多样性) like nowhere else
National parks are often chosen to protect threatened or unique ecosystems and geography. It is no surprise that parks are some of the most biodiverse places in the U.S. with strict laws about hunting, fishing and development. 36(____).
An unbreakable connection to nature
37(____). Nature encourages physical activity, recreation and calmness, and has even been shown to reduce depression (沮丧). National parks provide people with natural spaces to visit and chances to connect with nature.
38(____)
National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources, but also help stabilize (稳固) the surrounding land. This can save lives and infrastructure (基础设施) by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by preserving wetlands. 39(____).
Parks improve the economy
Parks bring visitors to small rural communities that otherwise would never see the same economic activity. These “gateway” communities benefit through jobs in hotels, restaurants, gift shops and within the park as tour guides. In 2015, 4 million visitors at Yellowstone National Park generated (产生) nearly $500 million dollars in spending, leading to 7,735 jobs and $225 million in income for workers. 40(____).
A.Parks help power America
B.Parks reduce natural disasters
C.A park is a safe place for threatened species
D.Yellowstone National Park is expected to see increased fires

My very first fur baby was a white cat named Rebel, I got him from the animals center, and he quickly took over the house and my heart. He was almost six months old when he disappeared, and I was heartbroken.
I searched for him everywhere, talking to the neighbors, putting up posters, and even offering a reward. I checked the shelter and the emergency vet clinic to see if he had been injured or picked up. No one had seen him, so I kept searching.
I lived in the city, close to high traffic road, and Rebel didn't have “street smarts” because he was an indoor cat. I also had an idea that if he got lost, he wouldn't be able to find his way home. Every time I went out, I would search for him as I drove down the road. Nothing.
Weeks went by with no sign of my cat. Everyone said I had to accept the result that was certain to happen—either he was dead, or someone else had him and was giving him a good home. I didn't accept that. I just couldn't.
After two weeks with no sign of him, I put his bed, toys, food, bowls, and litter box into storage so I wouldn't have to walk by the sad reminders every day. But I still wasn't ready to give up.
One morning, I left for work a few minutes early and started walking to the bus stop a block away. It was a nice autumn day, pleasantly cold and sunny—a good day for a walk. I arrived at the bus stop and checked to see if the bus was coming, but a little early. Something told me to keep going, so I decided to walk to the next bus stop. I got there and saw the bus coming, but I just kept walking and watching the bus swiftly pass by, knowing I was going to be late for work. But something told me to keep going.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I continued to walk for another twenty minutes.

Text 10
Mr. Brown was tired of living in the big city where he worked. He wanted to move to the country and live in a house from which he could get to his office in the city early every day. He was looking for a house until he saw an ad in a newspaper one day. The ad said that a suitable house in a quiet area was up for sale at a reasonable price, and the house was within a stone's throw of a railway station from which there were frequent trains to the big city.
“That's exactly what I need,”Mr. Brown said to himself. So he called the house agency and arranged to go down by train the next day to have a look at the house.
The house agency met him at the station and they started walking. It took them at least 15 minutes to get to the house. When they reached, Mr. Brown said angrily,“I should be very interested to meet the man who threw the stone you mentioned in the newspaper.”

One possible version:
I went to visit my favorite park with my parents last weekend. It was a fine day. We went to the park by car. There was a big pool in the park. I saw many people swimming in it. My mother was interested in swimming and she enjoyed herself in the pool. I went fishing with my father, who taught me how to fish. We felt quite excited when we got the first fish.
We had a great time in the park!

第二节
One possible version:
I continued to walk for another twenty minutes. Subconsciously, I went off in the direction of a neighborhood that I wasn't familiar with. I was walking along when I heard a cat's meow faintly. It was my cat! I was totally surprised to find him sitting by a fence. Dirty as he was, I still recognized him at first sight. His fur was in a mess and having an extremely bad smell, and he even had a skin disease on a ragged torn ear. He was frighteningly thin. I called his name as I scooped him into my arms. He pushed his dirty face into mine. I teared up with happiness because I had found my cat.
I turned around and carried him home. He settled comfortably in my arms and made a quiet continuous soft sound all the way. When we got home, I refilled his bowls with food and water and set up his litter box. I hold him close in my arms some more and then phoned to tell my boss I was on my way promising to make up for the time I had missed. I had another quick snuggle with my cat, washed up, grabbed my bags, and ran to catch the next bus. How amazing a day it was!

阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
The U.S. has over 400 national parks across the country.

38.答案与解析:B 下文中的National parks contain forested areas that not only protect water sources... by preserving wetlands.介绍了国家公园有助于减少自然灾害所产生的危害,因此B项可以概括本段的主旨大意。
39.答案与解析:F 上文中的“This can save lives and infrastructure by preventing landslides, avalanches and erosion. These areas also reduce floods by preserving wetlands.”与F项并列,具体解释了国家公园可以降低哪些自然灾害所带来的影响。
40.答案与解析:E E项与上文中的In 2015, 4 million visitors at Yellowstone National Park generated nearly $500 million dollars in spending, leading to 7,735 jobs and $225 million in income for workers.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
I continued to walk for another twenty minutes.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I turned around and carried him home.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
