The Beginning of Spring (Li Chun)
Li Chun, known as the Beginning of Spring, is a traditional Chinese solar term (节气) marking the start of spring in the lunar calendar. It holds great significance in Chinese culture and agriculture, showing nature comes back to life and the beginning of a new agricultural cycle.
The Beginning of Summer (Li Xia)
The Beginning of Summer will bring lots of rain and lead directly to the harvest. Thus an agricultural saying is that "no rain no rice" and "no rain, we will hang up the hoe." During this time, the hot weather would cause people to lose weight and become tired. It became the custom to weigh and drink tea as this is considered a guard against the hot weather.
The Beginning of Autumn (Li Qiu)
The start of Autumn shows that the fruitful season is coming. It is time to harvest crops. There is a saying: If it rains on the day of the Start of Autumn, a good harvest is expected.
On the first day of the Start of Autumn, people will weigh themselves and compare their weight to what it was at the Start of Summer. If one has lost weight during the summer, then at the beginning of autumn, he or she needs to gain weight by eating a variety of tasty foods, especially meat.
The Beginning of Winter (Li Dong)
Li Dong means winter is coming. At the start of winter, there's a tradition called "nourishing (滋养) the winter". People in the past believed that as the weather gets cold, our bodies need more nourishment. Australia's island state of Tasmania has an online platform (平台) for what it calls "Odd Jobs" — a number of jobs that are not commonly found. By far, the cutest job is from one of the island's wildlife parks, asking for a one-day "wombat (毛鼻袋熊) walker".
East Coast Nature World is home to a variety of famous Australian animals, such as kangaroos, Tasmanian devils and possums. It's also home to a number of wombats — a small, bear-like animal that's native to Australia. And the park is looking for someone to help look after the park's wombats by taking them out for a morning walk. The park says wombats need a daily morning walk to keep them happy and healthy during the winter months.
As well as going for a walk with the wombats, part of the wombat walker's job will be to make sure the animals actually wake up for it. This is because, according to the park, some of the wombats would sometimes rather have a sleep-in. Other responsibilities include giving the wombats snacks during the walk, and making sure they show good behavior by stopping them from chasing birds. Anyone who wants to apply for the job must be kind, patient, and love animals.
4. What is the online platform used for
A. Sharing fun stories. B. Organizing exciting activities.
C. Posting unusual jobs. D. Discussing daily life.
5. What is important for a wombat to be healthy in winter according to the park
A. Taking enough food. B. Taking a morning walk.

More and more travelers in China nowadays prefer home stays rather than traditional hotels, as they seek private living experiences. The house-sharing model was first introduced by the website Couch in 2003. It is still the largest website for travelers to find accommodation without much money to spend.
Encouraged by her great experience of home stays in France, Maggita considered short-term hire as her first choice for her future trips. She later went back to her hometown Shanghai and ran a "shared accommodation" business.
The short-term hire idea has been a win-win business model. For travelers, they can rent a special room at a reasonable price and also enjoy a first-hand experience of the local culture, compared with traditional hotels. For owners, they can gain a lot with daily rental. Now Maggita has quit her last job in an IT company and become a host of some 20 home stays, which enables her to earn a monthly income of around 40,000 -50,000 yuan.
In recent years, China has seen many home stay booking websites such as Xiaozhu and Tujia. Chen Chi, the founder and CEO of Xiaozhu, said the model is to share rooms or apartments that are not in use with people who need them. Instead of the traditional view that Chinese people feel uncomfortable living with strangers, Chen found that a large number of travelers got along well with house owners.
However, experts have pointed out a series of problems brought about by the fashion. Lacking supervision(监管)to those accommodation sharing websites, these service quality and accommodation safety cannot be guaranteed(保障). Experts suggest that the online websites should closely work together with communities and local police stations to improve the services.
8. What can we learn about home stays from the first paragraph
A. They started in China. B. They offer the best service.
C. They can be money-saving. D. They are popular with the youth.
9. What does the underlined word "quit" in the third paragraph mean
A. Taken up. B. Given up. C. Looked for. D. Gone for.
10. What does ChenChi think of this sharing model
A. Useless. B. Relaxing. C. Well-accepted. D. Uncomfortable.
11. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A. Home stays need to be popularized.
B. Some experts don't support home stays.
C.Lacking supervision is the biggest problem of home stays.
D. The police should manage the home stay services.

For Liu Dewen from southern Taiwan, the weight of a life is exactly 12 kilograms. On January 3, 2025, this 58-year-old from Kaohsiung boarded a flight to Nanjing with two urns (骨灰瓮), each weighing 12kg.
Over 21 years, Liu has carried the remains of over 300 old soldiers from Taiwan back to mainland China to achieve their dying wish to return home. They were among the soldiers who arrived in Taiwan with the Kuomintang in 1949. For decades, they were unable to return to care for aging parents or reunite with brothers and sisters or wives.
Liu, a native of Taiwan' s Pingtung county, did not know much about these soldiers until 1997, when he moved to an old housing area for soldiers in Kaohsiung. He became their trusted friend, listening to stories of separation and longing. Although the Taiwan government allowed visits to relatives on the mainland in 1987, many soldiers were unable to make the trip due to age or health.
In 2003, an old soldier Wen asked for Liu' s help in returning his ashes to Hunan. After Wen's death, Liu honored his promise, delivering the urn to Wen' s hometown. Word spread, and more requests followed. Liu began to focus fully on this task, and kept going despite the physical challenges.
In later years, Liu began receiving requests from families on the mainland to find the remains of relatives in Taiwan and bring them home. The tasks were often uphill struggles. It was only through strong determination and carefully checking records that some soldiers' remains were finally found.
In every case, Liu stays to ensure the ashes are buried properly. Having been to over 20 provinces and regions, with only Xizang autonomous region (自治区), Qinghai province, and Ningxia Hui autonomous region left unvisited, he has hardly taken the time for sightseeing, viewing his work as a serious job. "I am here to bring them home, not to tour." he says.
12. Why did many soldiers fail to return to the mainland after 1987
A. They were short of money for the trip.
B. The Taiwan government stopped all visits.
C. Their families refused to reunite with them.
D. Their age or poor fitness made the trip hard.
13. Which words can best describe Liu Dewen according to his actions
A. Demanding and humorous. B. Caring and determined.
C. Confident and curious. D. Creative and adventurous.
14. What can be inferred about Liu Dewen's task from the last paragraph
A. His task will end after visiting all provinces.
B. His primary goal is to tour China while working.
C. He carries out his task with a strong sense of responsibility.
D. He has received official awards in every province he visited.
15. What could be the best title for the passage
A. The Last Wish: Liu Dewen's Efforts in Historical Research.
B. A Lifetime of Service: Liu Dewen's Journey with over 300 Soldiers' Remains.
C. A Warm Heart: Liu Dewen's Work to Support Those in Need.
D. Voices of the Past: Liu Dewen's Efforts to Document Soldiers' Stories.

One evening, Janice had been crying for more than ten minutes about failing her mid-term exam in mathematics. She sat down at her desk and stared at the pile of mathematics textbooks in front of her. Then she was distracted by the storm outside her window. a different storm though to the storm in her mind. She had always been top in her class in English and Computer Science, but mathematics was an entirely different story. This shadow hung over her like a never ending storm, threatening to ruin her dream of a future in computer science at university. Sometimes, she even longed for the end-of-year exam to prove her efforts.
She opened her notebook to a page filled with half-finished equations (方程式). "Why can't I get this " she thought, frustration welling up inside her. Her teachers had high expectations for her, especially after her excellent performance in her other subjects. But just the word, "mathematics," made her tremble inside.
You can, if you think you can, Janice thought of her father's words and repeated to herself. She tried to study, but when she would open a textbook, only to find herself picking up her phone and looking through social media for hours. "I'm rubbish at math." Janice whispered.
Janice's father came sitting down beside her. "Yes, we know you are rubbish at maths. but one day you will tell me you 'were' rubbish at maths once." he said quietly, and with feeling. "Janice, you've always been a fighter. Remember what I told you You can, if you think you can. It's not just about believing it; it is about you wanting to believe it, it's also about proving it to yourself. You just have to take that first step toward believing you can do this."
"You've got a sharp mind, Janice." her teacher, Mr. Thompson, said one day after she finally solved a particularly tricky maths problem. "You just need to trust yourself." Janice was starting to believe in her father's words.

1.续写词数应为150个左右;

第三部分 写作
第一节
答案:
Dear Tim,
I'm glad to know that you're interested in how the animals at Chongqing Zoo cope with the hot summer. To keep our animals cool, the zoo has implemented several effective measures. We provide them with fresh fruits rich in water content, such as watermelons and oranges, to help them stay hydrated. Additionally, we have installed sprinklers and misting systems that spray water around their enclosures, creating a cooler environment. These methods not only help lower the temperature but also mimic the animals' natural habitats, enhancing their comfort and well-being.
Hopefully, you can visit Chongqing and see these wonderful animals in person. It would be a great opportunity to experience the local culture and enjoy the scenic beauty of the city.
Looking forward to your visit!
Best regards,
Li Hua
第二节
答案:
Janice began to put her heart and soul into mathematics. She made a detailed study plan, setting aside specific hours each day for math. Whenever she felt like reaching for her phone, she would recall her father's words and Mr. Thompson's encouragement. She dedicated herself to working through piles of practice problems, and gradually, the previously confusing equations started to make sense. She also joined a study group with classmates who were also struggling with math, and they motivated each other. With every small success, her confidence grew.
The end-of-year exam finally came. Janice entered the exam room feeling a mix of nervousness and determination. She took a deep breath and focused on the questions. As she worked through the paper, she found that the knowledge she had painstakingly built up over the months was coming to her aid. As it turned out, she passed the math exam with flying colors. She ran home, eager to share the news with her father, finally able to say, "I was rubbish at maths once."
