A Guide to Diving in the Galapagos Islands
Diving in the Galapagos Islands is a dream come true for all divers, often featured high on adventurous divers' bucket lists. Whether you're a beginner seeking gentle waters alive with marine (海洋的) life, or an experienced diver thirsty for exciting encounters, the Galapagos Islands always has something extraordinary to offer.
The Best Time for Diving
Galpagos is a year-round destination. When it comes to diving the best time to see unique animals is during the dry season, from June to November. During this period, waters are cooler, offering enhanced visibility and increased opportunities to witness hammerhead sharks and turtles, among others.
Essential Equipment
Mask, snorkel, and fins provide clear vision underwater and enable you to move swiftly through the water. Wetsuit and hood keep you warm and comfortable in cold waters. The regulator is a vital device that connects to the air tank, allowing you to breathe effortlessly underwater while reducing the air's intense pressure. The dive computer tracks the depth, dive time, and decompression (减压) limits.
Levels of difficulty
Beginner dives are ideal for newcomers, which offer calm waters, minimal currents, an eye-opening view of biodiversity and depths under 12 meters. Intermediate dives are suitable for divers confident in open waters, reaching depths of up to 30 meters. Advanced dives feature strong currents, limited visibility, and depths beyond 30 meters, and an adventurous spirit is a must.
Top Dive Sites Recommended

The mystery of how Mozart truly looked may be solved at last, after scientists reconstructed his living face from his skull. Mozart is a western music giant, but the mystery of his appearance has long puzzled academics. Few authentic portraits exist, and those from his lifetime are incomplete.
Cicero Moraes, an expert in facial reconstructions, said he learned of the skull by luck. He said: "Our team has been working long on facial approximations (复原), constantly reconstructing historical figures. During previous studies, we discovered a skull attributed to Mozart." He continued: "The condition was good, and there were images of the skull with spatial (空间的) references so it was possible to reconstruct it."
The international team virtually rebuilt Mozart's skull and combined various techniques for the reconstruction. Using soft tissue thickness markers and projecting key facial features like the nose, ears, and lips, they based their work on measurements from hundreds of adult Europeans. They also applied shape adjustment techniques, adjusting a virtual donor's head to match Mozart's skull parameters (参数) to generate a matching face. Finally, they added hair and clothing based on historical references, resulting in a delicate-looking face.
The new reconstruction closely matched two surviving portraits of Mozart from his lifetime: an unfinished 1783 portrait by Joseph Lange, described by Mozart's wife as "the best likeness," and a 1789 image by Dora Stock. Mr. Moraes noted that they did not use these portraits as references during the reconstruction, relying only on peer-reviewed techniques. The match was confirmed only after the reconstruction was completed.
The skull itself is not without controversy however. It supposedly passed through various hands, before being donated to the Mozarteum. Numerous studies since have reached different conclusions about its genuineness. Mr Moraes said: "What we do know is that the skull has characteristics consistent with the portraits of him in life. Although this is not proof, it is yet another element that increases the mystery."
4.What facilitated scientists' reconstruction of Mozart's appearance
A. The existing portraits. B. Measurements from Mozart.
C. The skull's sound state. D. Advances in facial estimates.
5.What is paragraph 3 mainly about
A. The team's background. B. The theoretical basis of the study.
C. The rebuilding process. D. The comment the team received.
6.Why are an unfinished 1783 portrait and a 1789 image mentioned
A. To explain the mystery of Mozart's figure.
B. To show the accuracy of the reconstruction.
C. To illustrate the challenge the recovery faced.
D. To present the comment from Mozart's wife.
7.What can be inferred from the last sentence
A. The skull in itself is the evidence. B. The portraits are proof of the study.
C. The mystery about Mozart remains. D. The debate about the skull is resolved.

What if you could use the plastic waste littering your home country to help solve its housing crisis For architect Oscar Andrés Méndez, that inspiration led to an invention that presents his core values.
His Colombia-based company, Conceptos Plásticos, transforms plastic like bags and snack-food containers into Lego-like blocks. These blocks are 95% plastic and can be used to build houses. Since 2010, they've made the process more efficient. A typical two-bedroom house can now be built in five days, capturing six tons of plastic and at a cost from $4,000 to $7, 000 — far cheaper than traditional construction. The structures are also earthquake resistant, fire-proof, and not so easy to tear down: Each building, Méndez says, should stand for more than 200 years.
Conceptos Plásticos initially partnered with private firms to build houses in Colombia. In 2017, Aboubacar Kampo, then a UNICEF representative in C te d' Ivoire, contacted the company. He explained how plastic waste in sewers caused floods and spread malaria, and highlighted the country's urgent need for durable schools due to frequent rebuilding during the rainy season. Kampo invited the company to Abidjan, where they were shocked by the sight of women carrying children on their backs while picking plastic from dumps for low pay.
"We have the solution," Méndez remembers thinking. Not only with their brick-making technology but with the potential to create an economic system that, as Méndez puts it, could "empower the people." Conceptos Plásticos had the technology.
As part of a three-million-dollar deal with UNICEF, Conceptos Plásticos built a new factory in Abidjan and recruited workers, mainly women, to source the plastic needed. So far, over 4, 000 tons of plastic have been transformed into more than 550 classrooms, all for approximately 60 percent of what traditional construction methods cost. The effort has created a circular economy that removes waste from the environment, improves the educational system by way of well-designed buildings, and creates jobs.
8.What is the primary purpose of Méndez's invention
A. To solve waste and housing problems. B. To perfect traditional constructions.
C. To create new plastic materials. D. To supply roofs and windows.
9.Which of the following can best describe Conceptos Plásticos' product
A. Flexible and free. B. Time-consuming but green.
C. Labor-intensive but cheap. D. Economical and sustainable.
10.Why did Conceptos Plásticos build a factory in Abidjan
A. To stop the spread of malaria. B. To improve local sewer systems.
C. To sell brick-making technology. D. To fix local eco and social issues.
11.What does the specific data in the last paragraph imply
A. The impact of the project. B. The scale of plastic waste.
C. The efforts made by local government. D. The challenges Conceptos Plásticos faced.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence, DeepSeek, a Chinese AI company, has appeared as a pioneer in educational technology. Its latest model, DeepSeek-R1, combines advanced machine learning methods to provide personalized learning solutions for students worldwide.
Unlike traditional AI models that depend on pre-programmed answers, DeepSeek-R1 uses reinforcement (强化) learning to drive human logical thinking. This allows it to guide students through problem-solving step by step, much like a patient teacher. For example, when a student struggles with a math equation, DeepSeek-R1 doesn't just give the answer, it breaks down the logic, identifies mistakes, and encourages critical thinking.
The model's applications reach beyond academic (学术的) areas. In language learning, it analyzes students' pronunciation through AI speech recognition and offers real-time responses. For teachers DeepSeek-R1 can make lesson plans in line with curriculum standards and even predict students' learning difficulties based on historical data. Its "adaptive testing" feature creates personalized quizzes that adjust difficulty according to individual progress.
However, challenges remain. Critics argue that over-dependence on AI might reduce human interaction in education. DeepSeek's developers address this by stressing its role as an "addition, not a replacement." As Dr. Li, a DeepSeek researcher, stated. "Our goal is to free teachers from routine tasks so they can focus on inspiring creativity."
Looking ahead, DeepSeek aims to combine virtual reality (VR) and its platform, enabling students to explore historical events or scientific concepts in engaging 3D environments. While ethical (伦理的) debates about AI in education continue to exist, one thing is clear tools like DeepSeek are reshaping how we learn, mixing technology with human wisdom
12.What makes DeepSeek-R1 different from traditional AI models
A.It uses pre-programmed answers. B.It focuses on memory techniques.
C.It replaces teachers in classrooms. D.It employs reinforcement learning for logical thinking.
13.The underlined word "adaptive" in Paragraph 3 most likely means ________.
A.fixed B.adjustable C.appealing D.limitless
14.What can be inferred about DeepSeek's future plans
A.VR technology will improve interactive learning
B.It will replace all classroom activities.
C.It gives priority to gains rather than educational values.
D.Teachers will lose their jobs to AI.
15.What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To recommend DeepSeek products.
B.To complain the risks of AI in schools.
C.To discuss AI's role in transforming education.
D.To compare different AI models.

Our school decided to hold a charity sale to raise money for a local orphanage (孤儿院). As soon as the news spread, our class got actively involved. Everyone was eager to contribute and make the event a success.
We started preparing weeks in advance. Some students rummaged through their closets, looking for gently-used items to sell, while others got creative and made handicrafts, like handmade jewelry and knitted scarves. We also designed eye-catching posters to promote the sale.
The day of the charity sale finally arrived. The school courtyard was filled with tables, each stacked with a variety of items. The atmosphere was lively, with students and teachers alike bustling around, chatting and bargaining. At first, our class's booth was quite popular. We sold several items quickly, and the money in our donation box started to pile up.
However, as the day went on, the competition became fierce. Other classes had some unique items, and their sales were booming. Our booth gradually saw fewer customers. Some of our classmates started to feel discouraged. They worried that we wouldn't be able to raise enough money for the orphanage.
Just then, our class teacher, Mrs. Green, came over. She noticed our disappointed faces and said, "Don't lose heart. This is a challenge, but we can overcome it. Remember, it's not about winning, but about helping those in need." Her words gave us a new sense of determination.
We brainstormed new ideas. One student suggested offering a "buy-one-get-one-free" deal on some items. Another proposed giving away small handmade bookmarks with every purchase. We quickly put these ideas into action.
To our delight, customers started to flock back to our booth. They were attracted by our special offers and the charming bookmarks. The sales picked up rapidly, and we were soon busier than ever.
But just as we were on a roll, a sudden downpour hit the school. The rain was so heavy that it forced everyone to seek shelter indoors. Our carefully arranged booth was left exposed, and many of our items got wet.

第二节
答案:
Looking at the rain-soaked booth and the damaged items, a wave of helplessness washed over us. But Mrs. Green, with her unwavering spirit, immediately rallied us. "This is just a temporary setback. We have come too far to let a little rain stop us. Let's think of a way to turn this around." Inspired by her, we quickly dried the salvageable items and moved the booth indoors to a less-crowded corridor. We then spread the word among the students who were taking shelter inside, inviting them to visit our relocated booth.
Despite the initial setback, the rest of the day was a huge success. We managed to sell almost all of our items, and the donation box was overflowing with money. When we presented the money to the orphanage, the children's faces lit up with joy. Through this experience, we learned a valuable lesson: challenges are inevitable in life, but with determination, teamwork, and a positive attitude, we can always find a way to overcome them and achieve our goals, especially when it comes to helping others.
