A
The following 4 famous paintings—from Jan van Eyck's portrait to Pablo Picasso's masterpiece—have stood the test of time.
The Arnolfini Portrait
The Arnolfini Portrait of Jan van Eyck, an oil painting on wood produced in 1434, in which a man and a woman hold hands with a window behind him and a bed behind her, is undoubtedly one of the masterpieces in the National Gallery, London. This painting is as visually interesting as it is famed. It is also an informative document on fifteenth-century society, through van Eyck's heavy use of symbolism—while husbands went out to engage in business, wives concerned themselves with domestic duties.
The Starry Night
Vincent Willem van Gogh painted The Starry Night, an oil on canvas(帆布), a moderately abstract landscape painting of an expressive night sky over a small hillside village, during his 12-month stay at the mental hospital near Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France between 1889 and 1890. When the Museum of Modern Art in New York City purchased the painting from a private collector in 1941, it was not well known, but it has since become one of van Gogh's most famous works.
The Harvesters
The Harvesters is an oil painting on wood completed by Pieter Bruegel the Elder in 1565. It depicts the harvest time which most commonly emerged within the months of August and September. Nicolaes Jonghelinck, a merchant banker and art collector from Antwerp, commissioned this painting. The painting has been at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City since 1919.
Guernica
Guernica, a large black-and-white oil painting, was painted by the Cubist Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso in 1937. The title "Guernica" refers to the city that was bombed by Nazi planes during the Spanish Civil War. The painting depicts the horrors of war and as a result, has come to be an anti-war symbol and a reminder of the tragedies of war. Today, the painting is housed at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia in Madrid.

"They are our guests," Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar said on an extremely cold day as he and his colleagues broke the ice and dropped grain at bird feeding points on the Hokersar wetland in Kashmir.
Dar and his colleagues were hired by the local government to feed the hungry birds as weather conditions in the region became worse. "Since December, temperatures have dropped to—10℃ and there have been two heavy snowfalls, which have blanketed the vast rice fields and fruit farms in the area. Scores of wetlands and lakes, including parts of the famous Dal Lake, have been covered up by thick ice in Kashmir," Dar added.
The cries of hundreds of thousands of birds that visit Kashmir during their winter migration (迁徙) have long been a welcome noise for the locals. They arrive from as far away as eastern Europe, Japan and Turkey to feed and produce babies in the wetlands. Officials say at least 700, 000 birds have moved to Kashmir in the past two months and expect more to arrive as temperatures improve in February.
In recent decades, the number of visiting birds has declined, which experts say is due to climate change and urban development. "Construction around the Hokersar wetland, poisonous waste and the changing climate in the area are robbing the birds of their traditional watering holes and nesting areas," Dar explained.
According to a recent study by the University of Kashmir, the Hokersar wetland shrank (缩小) from nearly 19 square kilometers in 1969 to 12.8 square kilometers today. Fortunately, environmental groups and local residents are also joining hands to feed the hungry birds in the icy conditions.
"It's not just our official duty to feed them but also an order from Nature," Dar told me.

6.What do the locals most probably think of those birds
A.It is a big waste to feed them. B.They may destroy the crops.
C.It is annoying to hear their noise. D.They are their lovely guests.
7.What does Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar want to tell us in the last paragraph
A.The Hokersar wetland has to be protected.
B.Wildlife groups and locals did a good job.
C.It is absolutely necessary to help those birds.
D.The recent study provides valuable information.

A new study published in Nature communications reveals that viewing nature can ease pain by reducing brain activity linked to pain perception ( 感知).Led by researchers from the university of vienna and the university of Exeter , the study offers a promising foundation for new non-drug pain treatments .
The study used an fMRI Scanner (扫描仪) to monitor the brain activity of49 participants in Austria as they received pain through small electric shocks.when watching videos of natural scenes , participants reported feeling less pain , and scans showed changes in brain responses associated with pain processing.Advanced machine-learning analyzed brain networks related to pain , finding that raw sensory signals were reduced when viewing high-quality virtual nature scenes .
The study confirms previous findings that nature can reduce subjective reports of pain and marks the first clear demonstration of how natural environments influence the brain, protecting it from unpleasant experiences. Lead author Max Steininger explained that numerous studies have shown people report less pain when exposed to nature , but the fundamental reasons were previously unclear. The study provides evidence from brain scans that this effect is genuine , although the pain-relieving effect was around half that of painkillers.
The paper also provides insights into the healing( 治愈的) potential of natural settings , addressing a longstanding problem.over forty years ago , an important study by American researcher Roger Ulrich showed that hospital patients used fewer painkillers and recovered faster when their windows overlooked green space. The new findings provide the first convincing explanation for why Ulrich's patients might have experienced less pain and demonstrate how virtual nature encounters could bring these benefits to anyone , anywhere.
Coauthor Dr.Alex Smalley concluded that the study highlights how virtual encounters can bring the healing potential of nature to people when they can't get outside. The study also serves as renewed evidence for the importance of protecting healthy natural environments , encouraging people to spend time in nature for the benefit of both the planet and people. The practical implications for non-drug treatments and new directions for research to better understand how nature impacts our minds are significant.

A.The pain-relieving effect of viewing nature.
B.The development of non-drug pain treatments.
C.The importance of protecting natural environments.
D.The influence of natural environments on hospital patients.
9.How did the researchers monitor the brain activity of the participants
A.BY Using electric shocks.
B.BY Using an fMRI Scanner.
C.BY asking them to report their feelings.
D.BY analyzing their brain networks related to pain.
10.How effective is viewing nature in reducing pain compared to the use of painkillers
A.It is much stronger. B.It is about the same .
C.It is half as effective. D.It is much less effective.
11.what can we infer about the study from the last paragraph
A.It suggests people should avoid using painkillers.
B.It shows people should rely heavily on virtual nature.
C.It emphasizes the significance of protecting nature.
D.It proves that virtual nature is better than real nature .

Like a literal breath of fresh air, so-called "micro-forests" represent a green practice, boosting the quality of life in many of the world's polluted and overcrowded urban centers.
These small areas of densely (稠密地) planted woodland trees also known as mini-forests or pocket forests, allow communities to manage the effects of climate change in a small way, but offer enormous benefits to the environment and local people, as they restore soil, air and water quality. These mini-forests are proving a magnet for various animal and plant species, which offer human beings the chance to learn more about nature. Magically becoming self-sustaining over time, they are a way to make reimagined urban life a reality.
Significantly, mini-forests, as one of their nonprofit facilitators SUGi outlines, serve to build social bonds in communities as well, as they come together to enjoy and sustain new natural settings. They can also regenerate and beautify neglected (被忽视的) plots in cities such as former basketball courts, and disused parking lots and playgrounds, for instance.
According to the UN's State of the World's Forests Report from 2020, over 440 million hectares (公顷) of forest have been lost to other uses since 1990. Now, more than half of the global population lives in urban areas, but the access to green spaces is limited. The good news is that micro-forests in cities can offer an important chance to fight against deforestation and enlarge green spaces.
Euro News details some of the many exciting micro-forests that have taken root globally. Nonprofit Earthwatch Europe, for instance, has planted 285 of them since 2022. Their plots are made up of 600 trees. A tree-planting program aiming to restore biodiversity and reintroduce native species, SUGi, has created 230 pocket forests in 52 cities around the world, from Toulouse in France, to Madrid in Spain, and Saint George in Romania.
12.What does the underlined word "magnet" in paragraph 2 most probably mean
A. Something artificial. B. Something simplified.
C. Something innovative. D. Something appealing.
13.How do micro-forests benefit a city according to the text
A. They reduce traffic jams. B. They improve urban land use.
C. They popularize sports activities. D. They ensure citizens' privacy.
14.What is the data in paragraph 4 intended to stress
A. The fast pace of urbanization. B. The need to control populations.
C. The importance of micro-forests, D. The harm caused by deforestation.
15.What is the last paragraph mainly about
A. Plans to further promote micro-forests.
B. Benefits of sustaining micro-forests.
C. Examples of creating micro-forests in cities.

From my memory, my father was a man of few words and we were never close to each other. Before he joined the army, he built a house with his own hands. When he was tragically killed in one battle, the house became mine. As the house aged, it became a relic of the past, and we moved away, carrying with me the echoes of his silent presence.
One day, someone called, saying that he wanted to buy that house. I said yes.
Before we reached a deal, I thought it a must to check out the old shack (小屋) first, just in case something of value had been left behind. My two young sons followed along, and we waded through the tall grass in the mead ow where the old house sat. Time had taken its toll. The front porch had collapsed in on itself, most of the windows were gone, and the siding was falling off. We entered through an open window.
I felt as though I had chanced upon a time capsule (胶囊). Here lay the things of my dad's life. A broken chair. Some old clothes. But the thing that drew my eye was a cardboard box stuffed with papers. I dug through its contents and was instantly transported back in time. There was a tax return from 1975. Greeting cards from old relatives and friends.
I spent most of a pleasant hour going through that box. All the while, I had to answer a stream of questions from my sons about the old house. They were amazed that nine people once occupied the tiny structure. And they shivered when I told them that in those days the cook stove was the only source of heat.
There's nothing of value had been left, I confirmed. So we came back. The house once again enjoyed the lonely solitude of our meadow.
Then the paying day came. For no reason, maybe some reason, I came to that old house to say goodbye to something.

1.续写词数应为150左右;

故填who。
故填than。
故填have emerged。

Dear Jack,
I'm terribly sorry to tell you that I am unable to go to Yunnan with you. It is very kind of you to invite me to go travelling with you and I really look forward to going to Yunnan and enjoying the beautiful scenery there. However, much to my regret, I can't go with you owing to the fact that an important exam is just around the corner, for which I am now really busy preparing.
Anyway, we will have many more chances to get together. Would it be convenient for you if we did it after the exam

第二节
答案:
As I stood in the house, my eye was drawn to a big yellow envelope with the words "FROMARMY" on it. Driven by a heart string tremor, I opened it to find a letter from my father during his military days. His familiar handwriting depicted him as talkative and homesick, which contrasted with my memory of him. Realizing he missed me as much, I silently resolved to keep it, as the house gained new significance.
I pulled out my telephone and made a call to that buyer. With guilt, I expressed my sorry for not willing to sell the house anymore and made explanations. Fortunately, he kindly understood, mentioning the house's charm and hope for reliving the past. Gratefully, I hung up and placed back the yellow letter that changed everything. Sunlight revealed the house's history and memories; my father's presence warmed my heart, prompting me to bring my sons here to share family stories and assure them their grandpa lives on.
