A
During
the
summer
vacation,
some
college
students
choose
to
climb
mountains,
and
some
think
learning
how
to
drive
a
car
is
a
vital
skill
for
their
future.
But
with
tough
weather
conditions,
tough
driving
instructors
and
even
tougher
requirements
for
getting
a
license,
students
not
only
learn
a
skill
but
also
a
lesson
for
life.
Endurance
test
Zhang
Li,
19,
nearly
lost
confidence
when
he
learned
to
drive.
"The
driving
instructor
easily
gets
angry
about
my
performance.
We
new
students
make
a
lot
of
newcomer
mistakes,
which
really gets
on
their
nerves,"
But
through
his
parents’
advice,
however,
he
started
seeing
it
as
an
endurance
test.
"It
will
be
important
to
keep
calm
at
all
times,"
says
Zhang.
Vital
checks
Wei
Ruolin,
22,
almost
caused
an
accident
when
she
finally
got
behind
the
wheel
next
to
the
instructor.
"I
forgot
to
check
the
position
of
the
rear-
and
side-view
mirrors
before
driving,"
Says
Wei.
When
you
drive,
don’t
hurry
to
start
the
car
but
check
everything
before
moving
off.
Difficult
rules
Huang
Shunlin,
22,
"I
didn’t
pay
much
attention
to
the
test
at
first
and
failed
it
three
times,
"
says
Huang.
"When
I
finally
treated
it
like
a
real
test
and
prepared
with
my
friend’s
help,
it
was
easy
and
I
learned
many
things
to
keep
me
safe
on
the
road."

car.

Friends’
help
B
We
always
convince
ourselves
that
life
will
be
better
after
we
get
married,
have
a
baby,
than
another.
Then
we
are
disappointed
that
the
kids
aren't
old
enough
and
we'll
be
more
content
when
they
are.
After
that
we're
frustrated
that
we
have
teenagers
to
deal
with.
We
will
certainly
be
happy
when
they
are
out
of
that
stage.
We
always
tell
ourselves
that
our
life
will
be
complete
when
our
spouse
(配偶)
gets
his
or
her
act
together,
when
we
get
a
nice
car,
and
are
able
to
go
on
a
nice
vocation
and
when
we
retire.
The
truth
is:
there's
no
better
time
than
right
now.
If
not
now,
when
Our
life
will
always
be
filled
with
challenges.
It's
best
to
admit
this
to
ourselves
and
decide
to
be
happy
anyway.
One
of
my
favorite
quotes
comes
from
Alfred
Souza.
He
said."
For
a
long
time
it
had
seemed
to
me
that
life
was
about
to
begin--real
life.
But
there
were
always
some
obstacles
in
the
way,
something
to
be
gotten
through
first,
some
unfinished
business,
time
still
to
be
served,
a
debt
to
be
paid.
Then
life
would
begin.
At
last
it
dawned
on
me
that
these
obstacles
were
my
life."
This
perspective
has
helped
me
to
see
that
there
is
no
way
to
happiness.
Happiness
is
the
way.
So
do
not
let
it
slip
from
you
now.
And
remember
that
time
waits
for
no
one.
So
stop
waiting
until
you
finish
school,
until
you
go
back
to
school;
until
you
get
married,
until
you
get
divorced;
until
you
have
kids;
until
you
retire;
until
you
get
a
new
car
or
home;
until
spring;
until
you
are
born
again
to
decide
that
there
is
no
better
time
than
right
now
to
be
happy...
Happiness
is
a
journey,
not
a
destination.
So,
work
like
you
don't
need
money,
love
like
you've
never
been
hurt,
and
dance
like
no
one's
watching.
24.
Which
is
the
best
title
for
the
passage
A.
Happiness
Is
a
Destination
B.
Our
Life
Will
Be
Filled
with
Challenges.
C.
Life
Will
Be
Better
D.
Happiness
Is
a
Journey
25.
The
author
uses
the
second
paragraph
to_________
A.
give
advice
B.
offer
an
explanation
C.
make
a
comment
D.
draw
a
conclusion
26.
By
reading
Alfred
Souza's
words,
we
know
_______.
A.
his
life
was
always
filled
with
too
many
obstacles
for
him
to
face
B.
the
obstacles
in
life
helped
him
to
see
what
happiness
is
C.
he
had
to
face
more
obstacles
than
anyone
else
D.
he
realized
that
there
is
no
way
to
happiness
27.
What
does
the
writer
want
to
tell
us
A.
Will
is
power,
so
do
what
you
want
to
do.
B.
Time
and
tide
waits
for
no
man,
so
treasure
the
present.
C.
A
thousand
words
will
not
leave
so
deep
an
impression
as
one
deed.
D.
So
said,
so
done,
so
do
what
you
said.
C
There
are
desert
plants
which
survive
the
dry
season
in
the
form
of
inactive
seeds.
There
are
also
desert
insects
which
survive
as
inactive
larvae
(幼虫).
In
addition,
difficult
as
it
is
to
believe,
there
are
desert
fish
which
can
survive
through
years
of
drought
(干旱)
in
the
form
of
inactive
eggs.
These
are
the
shrimps
(虾)
that
live
in
the
Mojave
Desert,
an
extremely
dry
place
in
the
southwest
of
the
United
States
where
shade
temperatures
of
over
50℃
are
often
recorded.
The
eggs
of
the
Mojave
shrimps
look
like
grains
of
sand
both
in
size
and
appearance.
When
enough
spring
rain
falls
to
form
a
lake,
once
every
two
to
five
years,
these
eggs
hatch.
Then
the
water
is
soon
filled
with
millions
of
tiny
shrimps
about
a
millimeter
long
which
feed
on
tiny
plant
and
animal
organisms
(有机物)which
also
grow
in
the
temporary
desert
lake.
Within
a
week,
the
shrimps
grow
from
their
original
1
millimeter
to
a
length
of
about
1.5
centimeters.
Throughout
the
time
that
the
shrimps
are
rapidly
maturing,
the
water
in
the
lake
equally
rapidly
evaporates(蒸发).
Therefore,
for
the
shrimps
it
is
a
race
against
time.
By
the
12th
day,
however,
when
they
are
about
3
centimeters
long,
hundreds
of
tiny
eggs
form
on
the
underbodies
of
the
females.
Usually
by
this
time,
all
that
remains
of
the
lake
is
a
large,
muddy
patch
of
wet
soil.
On
the
13th
day,
the
shrimps
lay
their
eggs
in
the
mud.
Then,
having
ensured
that
their
species
will
survive,
the
shrimps
die
as
the
last
of
the
water
evaporates.
If
enough
rain
falls
the
next
year
to
form
another
lake,
the
eggs
hatch,
and
once
again
the
shrimps
pass
rapidly
through
their
cycle
of
growth,
adulthood,
egg-laying,
and
death.
Some
years
there
is
not
enough
rain
to
form
a
lake:
in
this
case,
the
eggs
will
remain
dormant
for
another
year,
or
even
longer
if
necessary.
28.
Which
of
the
following
is
the
MOST
unique
feature
of
Mojave
shrimps
A.
Their
lives
are
brief.
B.
They
feed
on
plant
and
animal
organisms.
C.
Their
eggs
can
survive
years
of
drought.
D.
They
lay
their
eggs
in
the
mud.
29.
What
does
the
underlined
word
“dormant”
in
the
last
paragraph
most
probably
mean
A.
Inactive.
B.
Sleeping.
C.
Safe.
D.
Dead.
30.
What
can
be
inferred
from
the
passage
A.
Appearance
and
size
are
the
most
important
for
life
to
survive
in
the
desert.
B.
A
species
must
be
able
to
grow
up
quickly
in
order
to
survive.
C.
Shrimps
are
the
only
species
with
a
life
cycle
of
13
days.
D.
Some
species
develop
a
unique
life
pattern
to
survive
in
extremely
hard
condition.
31.
What
is
the
passage
mainly
about
A.
The
life
span
of
Mojave
shrimps
B.
The
survival
of
desert
shrimps
C.
The
creatures
living
in
the
Mojave
desert
D.
The
importance
of

D
The
Enigma
(谜)of
Beauty
  The
search
for
beauty
spans
centuries
and
continents.Paintings
of
Egyptians
dating
back
over
4,000
years
show
both
men
and
women
painting
their
nails.In
18th-century
France,wealthy
noblemen
wore
large
wigs
(假发)of
long,white
hair
to
make
themselves
attractive.Today,people
continue
to
devote
a
lot
of
time
and
money
to
their
appearance.
  There
is
at
least
one
good
reason
for
the
desire
to
be
attractive:beauty
is
power.Studies
suggest
that
good-looking
people
make
more
money,get
more
attention
in
class,and
are
regarded
as
friendlier.
But
what
exactly
is
beauty
It's
difficult
to
describe
it
clearly,yet
we
know
it
when
we
see
it.And
our
sense
of
beauty
may
start
at
an
early
age.In
one
study,six-month-old
babies
were
shown
a
series
of
photographs.You
know
what
The
babies
spent
more
time
looking
at
the
more
attractive
faces.
The
idea
that
even
babies
can
judge
appearance
makes
perfect
sense
to
researchers.In
studies
by
psychologists,men
firmly
showed
a
preference
for
women
with
larger
eyes,fuller
lips,and
a
smaller
nose
and
chin
while
women
prefer
men
with
large
shoulders
and
a
narrow
waist.According
to scientists,the
mind
unconsciously
tells
men
and
women
that
these
traits
—the
full
lips,clear
skin,strong
shoulders
—equal
health
and
genetic
well-being.
  Not
everyone
thinks
the
same
way,however."
Our
standard
can
be
changed
by
all
sorts
of
expectations
—mostly
cultural,"
says
C.Loring
Brace,what
is
considered
attractive
in
one
culture
might
not
be
in
another.Look
at
most
Western
fashion
magazines:the
women
on
the
pages
are
thin.But
is
this
"perfect"
body
type
for
women
worldwide
Scientists'
answer
is
no;
what
is
considered
beautiful
is
subjective
and
varies
around
the
world.They
found
native
peoples
in
southeast
Peru
preferred
shapes
regarded
overweight
in
Western
cultures.
For
better
or
worse,beauty
plays
a
role
in
our
lives.But
it
is
extremely
difficult
to
describe
exactly
what
makes
one
person
attractive
to
another.Although
there do
seem
to
be
certain
physical
traits
considered
universally
appealing,it
is
also
true
that
beauty
does
not
always
keep
to
a
single,uniform
standard.Beauty
really
is,as
the
saying
goes,in
the
eye
of
the
beholder.

第二节
(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。
It
may
seem
crazy
when
you
watch
your
dog
bury
his
bone,
only
to
dig
it
up
a
day
or
two
later.
36
It
is
simply
in
their
nature.
For
thousands
of
years,
dogs
have
buried
their
bones.
The
practice
itself
started
long
before
dogs
were
even
pets
when
their
ancestors(祖先)
had
to
bury
bones
to
survive.
37
If
they
were
able
to
find
meat
and
bones,
dogs
became
very
protective
of
them.
To
keep
other
dogs
and
animals
from
stealing
their
meat
and
bones,
dog
would
bury
them
in
the
ground.
When
it
was
time
for
the
next
meal,
they
would
dig
their
bones
and
enjoy
them
again.
Although
most
dogs
have
plenty
of
food
to
eat
today,
their
instincts(直觉)
still
tell
them
to
bury
their
bones.
Some
dogs
hide
more
than
one
at
once,
burying
one
and
digging
up
another.
38
So
how
do
dogs
decide
where
to
bury
their
bones
A
dog
can’t
just
bury
a
bone
anywhere.
39
This
involves
using
his
nose
to
sniff(嗅)
out
a
spot
that
is
free
from
predators(捕食动物).
Often
it
is
near
a
tree
or
a
large
rock.
Once
the
dog
finds
the
satisfying
spot,
he
uses
his
front
paws(爪)
to
dig
the
hole,
drops
in
the
bone
and
cover
up
the
hole
to
protect
his
treasure.
40
Thankfully,
dogs
have
an
excellent
sense
of
smell.
A
dog
can
smell
a
bone
though
it
has
been
buried
for
years.
Dogs
can
find
their
bones
buried
by
themselves
as
well
as
by
other
dogs.to
the
dog,
whatever
he
finds
is
a
treasure.
He
must
first
find
the
perfect
spot.
This
can
leave
a
background
full
of
holes
and
bones.
Dogs
use
their
nose
to
find
a
spot
to
bury
their
bones.
But
there
is
actually
a
reason
behind
why
dogs
bury
their
bones.
Therefore,
it’s
the
dogs’
instincts
that
tell
them
to
bury
their
bones.
When
dogs
lived
in
the
wild,
sometimes
there
was
not
enough
food.
Unfortunately,
sometimes
dogs
do
not
always
remember
where
a
bone
is
buried.

作文:
I'm glad I have won the first prize in the English Contest, which was
the
result
of
my after-class English learning.
I often take part in the English Corner and practice speaking English. There are many participants in the corner and we can talk about any topics in English. By doing this, I have improved my pronunciation and intonation. Most
important of all, I have conquered my shyness and timidness. I can talk to anybody boldly in English. So I didn't feel nervous in the contest at all.
At the same time I insist on keeping diaries in English every day. I will try my best to bring what I have learnt to use. Thus my knowledge has been reviewed and enlarged.
I also visit English reading websites to read much. Learning English depends on reading widely and largely.
Those sites provide many English articles of all levels and I can find appropriate ones to read. The dictionary in the computer can help me deal with the new vocabulary quickly. Therefore I benefit much from the reading.
Above are my three main learning methods of learning English after class. They are helpful and convenient to me. I hope they are also beneficial for you
