(江苏连云港中考真题)
Hello from nature’s foodies
As a proud grizzly bear, I say hello from Alaska. We eat anything we can get our paws on. One of my favourite meals is catching fresh salmon. There’s nothing quite like the pleasure of a stomach full of fresh fish!
I’m a blue whale. I may eat up to 3.6 million krill (磷虾) per day! You may wonder why such huge animals live on such tiny food It’s because our mouths only have rows of baleen (鲸须). It lets water flow out while holding in tiny things.
I’m a hummingbird. We eat flower nectar (蜜). We fly around a few thousand flowers each day to get as much food as possible. As we move our wings really fast, we burn through energy fast. So we need to keep feeding.
Hello~from~a~sloth~in~the~South~America! Our favorite food Low-energy leaves! Do we eat a lot No. We slow-movers don’t need a lot of energy. Even our stomachs work so slowly that after a meal, we’re too tired to do anything but... sleep!
26. Why does a blue whale live on tiny living things
A. It is the largest sea animal. B. It is too slow to catch large fish.
C. It only has baleen instead of teeth. D. It likes a stomach full of tiny food.
27. What decide how much hummingbirds and sloths eat
A. Living places. B. Diet lists. C. Daily activities. D. Body sizes.
28. Which part of a magazine is the text probably from
A. Wildlife. B. Landscapes. C. Travelling. D. Photography.
【答案】26. C 27. C 28. A
【解析】
【导语】本文介绍了不同动物的饮食习性。
26. C细节理解题。根据“You may wonder why such huge animals live on such tiny food It’s because our mouths only have rows of baleen (鲸须). It lets water flow out while holding in tiny things.”可知蓝鲸以磷虾等微小生物为食,是因为它们的嘴里只有鲸须,这种结构可以让水流出,同时保留微小的食物。故选C。
27. C推理判断题。根据“As we move our wings really fast, we burn through energy fast. So we need to keep feeding.”以及“No. We slow-movers don’t need a lot of energy”可知蜂鸟需要大量进食是因为它们的翅膀快速振动,消耗能量极快,需要不断补充能量,而树懒则因为活动缓慢,能量消耗低,所以不需要大量进食,这都与它们的日常活动密切相关。故选C。
28. A推理判断题。本文介绍了不同动物的饮食习性,故文章可能来自杂志的“野生动物”部分。故选A。

(江苏连云港中考真题)Some summers never end. Every day is the same. It is hot before the sun rises. It is hot after the sun falls. Between morning and night, when the sun burns in the sky... birds stop singing...dogs stop barking... and even time seems to stop.
Jack lies on his bed. His window is open but there isn’t a breath of air. He lifts a heavy hand and looks at his mobile. There are three new messages.
He clicks on the first one. It is from Zadie.
Hey Jack,I’m lying on the beach drinking a long cold fruit juice with loads of ice. The sun’s shining but it isn’t too hot—there’s a beautiful cool breeze (微风) coming from the sea. (江苏连云港中考真题)An hour before the show, the backstage (后台) was busy and noisy. Young male Peking Opera artists in their 20s were applying makeup, adjusting costumes, stretching, and clearing their throats. The air was filled with the sounds of traditional Chinese instruments.
“These young people started learning with me when they were just kids—now they’re adults, leading the shows themselves,” says Yang Shaochun, an 85-year-old Peking Opera master.
This weekend, four shows will be put on at Beijing People’s Theatre. Young wuxi artists will play the lead roles.
Wuxi, or martial (武术的) play, is the base of the fighting and movement part in Peking Opera. Wei Pengyu, a 29-year-old actor, was attracted to Peking Opera as a child—not by the music or stories at first, but by the colorful, amazing facial masks that brought the characters to life. At 14, he began training in Peking Opera, especially in wusheng—a male role type. “For me, stepping into the role of a hero is a dream come true,” he says.
“Playing wuxi isn’t just about action—it’s about expressing the character’s courage, justice (正义), loyalty and strength through movements,” says Xu Zhouyi, 25, another male actor.
Later that evening, a classic piece San Cha Kou was played by two young actors, Wu Zeyu and Shu Jiaxing. The viewers were attracted to the great scene and cheered for the actors’ excellent martial art movements.
Wu and Shu practiced together for nearly a year. “San Cha Kou is a test of trust between two actors. We have to read each other’s energy—know when one is speeding up or slowing down. Every movement must be perfectly counted to avoid real crashes while still looking dangerous,” says Wu.
33. What does the underlined part mean in Paragraph 1
A. Asking the master for help. B. Getting ready for the show.
C. Having a martial art lesson. D. Learning a new instrument.
34. Why does the writer mention Wei Pengyu and Xu Zhouyi
A. To share their life experiences. B. To compare their training results.
C. To show their understanding of wuxi. D. To express their love for facial masks.
35. What message can we learn from the successful show of San Cha Kou
A. Practice makes perfect. B. One is never too old to learn.
C. Great hopes make great man. D. Friends should be few but good.
36. What is a suitable title for the text
A. Wuxi movements impress viewers B. Young actors shine in Peking Opera
C. Wuxi actors celebrate after graduating D. A Peking Opera master opens a school

(江苏连云港中考真题)Saturn (土星) is famous for the beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Scientists discovered the moons with a powerful telescope (望远镜), which is used to study stars and planets in great detail. Scientists took many photos of areas in space and piled them on top of each other to make the moons appear bright enough to discover.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide—quite different to Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. At between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Why does Saturn have so many moons while Earth only has one According to scientists, several billion years ago, the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered in 2023 by a team of scientists led by Edward Ashton, and were recently confirmed by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons—Jupiter is not far behind with 95. However, Dr Ashton believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
37. What do we know about the new discovery
A. Newly found moons look the same. B. Scientists found new moons by accident.
C. Saturn’s rings attract many scientists. D. 128 new moons were found around Saturn.
38. What does “the ringed planet” in Paragraph 3 refer to
A Earth. B. Saturn. C. Moon. D. Titan.
39. What led to the large number of Saturn’s moons
A. The size of the planet. B. The weights of the moons.
C. The orbit of the planet. D. The crashes of the moons.
40. What can we learn from Dr Ashton’s words in the last paragraph
A. Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn. B. Saturn’s new moons might support life.
C. The IAU presented a medal to his team. D. He is satisfied with their moon discovery.
【答案】37. D 38. B 39. D 40. D
【解析】

39. D细节理解题。根据“the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed against each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.”可知土星的引力吸引了许多岩石和冰块,随着时间的推移,这些物体相互碰撞,破碎成更小的碎片,或者聚集在一起形成了许多小卫星。故选D。
40. D推理判断题。根据“With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done”可知Dr Ashton认为,以目前的技术水平,他们已经做到了极致,不太可能再有新的发现,这表明他对团队的发现感到满意。故选D。

(an extract from a detective story)
That evening Holmes again wore different clothes, and a large, black hat. But it was not just the clothes that were different. He changed his face, his hair — everything.
He was a different man.
We walked together to Serpentine Avenue. Outside the house there were a lot of people who were smoking, laughing and talking. Holmes and I walked up and down in front of the house.
“You see,” said Holmes to me, I don’t think she wants her new husband to see the photo.
But where is it At her bank No. Such a woman likes to keep important things herself. I’m sure it’s in her house.
“But the King’s men tried to find it!” I said.
“Yes. But they didn’t know where to look for it!” said Holmes. “But how will you know ” I asked. “She’ll show me. She’ll have to.”
Just then Irene’s taxi arrived. One of the men in the street ran to open the door and then another man pushed him. Other men were also pushing and shouting, and a fight began. Irene was in the middle of it, but Holmes ran to help her. Then suddenly he fell to the ground, with blood running down his face. Irene hurried to her front door, but she looked back. “How kind of him to help me! Is the poor man hurt ” she called.
“He’s dead,” cried some voices. “No, he’s only hurt,” cried others. “Bring him into the living room,” she said.
Some people carried Holmes into the house. I waited outside the window and watched. I saw how beautiful Irene was. Then Holmes put up his hand, and I threw the smoke-stick into the room. At once, the people in the street and in the house all began to shout “Fire!” very loudly.
The house was full of smoke. I walked away, and ten minutes later Holmes came to meet me.
“Well done, Watson,” he said. “Have you got the photo ” I asked.
“I know where it is. She showed me,” he answered. “But why did she show you ”
“It’s easy,” he said, and laughed. “You saw all those people in the street I paid them to help us. It wasn’t a real fight and the blood wasn’t real. When people shout “Fire!”, a woman runs to the most important thing in her house, her baby, her gold, or ... a photo. Irene ran to find her photo which is in a cupboard in the living room. I saw it. But I did not take it. Tomorrow we will go to the palace and tell it to the King first. And then we will go to her house with the King. We’ll go very early, before she gets up. The King himself can take the photo from the cupboard.

Memory Corner
Four students have written these tips for the school newspaper about memory improving.
HenryA great way to help you remember something is to imagine a picture of it in your mind. For example, to remember the word “smiles”, we can imagine there is a “mile” between the first letter and the last letter. This makes it the longest word in the world.

(2025连云港赣榆区中考一模)Have you ever met large changes in life and work How would you feel In fact, we all have to go through the grief cycle(悲伤循环)which has the following periods:
The first period: “it can’t be happening.”
Anger: “Why me It’s not fair.”
Depression: “I’m so sad. Why do I have to do all of these ”
Acceptance: “It’s going to be OK.”
I’m honestly not sure how scientific this model is but I certainly believe that you will work better after going through these changes.
Find out what your anger does for you—good or bad Think back to the situation where you have been angry at work and ask yourself how it influences you, including: your relationship with co-workers, the quality of your work and health, your relationship with friends and family.
Find out what makes you angry and less angry. Which thoughts, situations, people or conversations makes you less angry I’m sure you are not angry all the time. What makes you calm and stops you from feeling angry Find out, then start doing less of what makes you angry and more of the things that cool you down.
Focus on gratitude. What are you grateful for As I mentioned above, anger is part of the grief cycle which is connected with what you lose. Gratitude is the opposite of loss because it comes from the good things you have in your life. Every evening, sit down with a piece of paper and make two gratitude lists: three things I was grateful for at work today; three things I was thankful for in life today.
Change your focus from “What was done to me” to “What I can do ” Life is 10% about what happens to you and 90% about how you deal with it. You must take responsibility for your own situation rather than be a victim(牺牲品)of it. That kind of advice can get pretty boring but that doesn’t make it less true.

Many doctors are interested in the effects of laughter on our health. According to a 5-year study, laughter improves our health against illness by about 40%. They think that having a good laugh might be one of the best ways to stay healthy.
The first Laughter Club was started in Mumbai, India, in 1995 by Dr. Madan Kataria. “Everyone’s naturally good at laughing. We want people to feel happy with their lives,” says Dr. Kataria. There are now more than 500 Laughter Clubs in India and over 1,300 worldwide.
So, what happens at a Laughter Club I went to my nearest club in South London to find out. I was quite nervous at the beginning of the class, to be honest—I didn’t like laughing with a group of strangers. Our laughter teacher told us to clap our hands and say “ho ho ho, ha ha ha” while looking at each other. Although our bodies can’t tell the difference between fake (假的) laughter and real laughter, they still have the same healthy effects.
After ten minutes, everybody in the room was laughing genuinely (真诚地), and some people just couldn’t stop laughing! At the end of the class I was surprised by how relaxed and comfortable I felt. So if you’re under stress, then start laughing. You might be very pleased with the results!

(2025连云港灌云县中考一模)It’s hard to believe that after all our time on Earth, there are still places that we don’t know everything about. The huge and cold continent of Antarctica (南极大陆) is just one of them.
According to Tom Jordan, a scientist, there are still unexplored areas on our maps of Antarctica. And that’s something he and his team members want to explore. They’ve arrived in Antarctica with a new drone*. They think it will help. They want to find out more about how climate change is influencing the continent, and learn about its areas, both above the ice and below it.
Scientists have often used planes with pilots to watch these areas, but Antarctica s weather makes such tasks dangerous. These planes aren’t able to spend long in the air, and they must carry a lot of oil.
However, the new drone, made by a British company, can do the work more safely at a lower cost. The drone will be able to carry up to 100 kg of things and travel up to 1,000 km. And it can draw the shape of the land below the ice more correctly. This will help scientists better understand how the continent is changing.
“That will help us plan the future,” Tom said. The drone is still being tested in Antarctica. But it’s hoped that in the future, scientists will be able to fly it over the cold continent far, while staying in a warm place.

SarahA good method for remembering the spelling of a word is to make a short sentence with each letter of the word. For example, if you want to remember how to spell the word “because”, you can use the sentence “Big elephants can always understand small elephants.”
PaulYou will forget something very quickly unless you understand it well. For example, you may have trouble remembering the list of steps in the water cycle. However, it is easier to remember these steps if you understand how the water cycle works.

(2025连云港灌云县中考一模)Have you ever bought something and then changed your mind For Alison Jenson, 15, this used to happen several times a week. Alison was a shopaholic. She just couldn’t stop shopping and she loved special offers.
Alison’s bedroom is full of stuff. “I’ve been to every shop in Birmingham, I think,” says Alison. She picks up some earrings. The labels are still on them. “These were half price,” she says. “I’ve never won them.” Alison’s problem wasn’t just jewellery. She also bought a lot of clothes, though not many shoes, because they were usually too expensive. She has also bought lots of other small things—like 20 new covers for her phone. She hasn’t used any of them.
According to experts, we all feel excited after we buy something new. For shopaholics, it’s a little different. Soon after they buy something, they think they’ve made a mistake and start to feel unhappy. So they buy themselves something else to feel happier.
Psychologists (心理学家)first described the problems of shopaholics in 1915. However, there was very little research on the subject until recently. Now, doctors think thousands of people suffer from the problem, and the situation is getting worse. There are also more teenage shopaholics now, although most young people don’t have enough money to go shopping very regularly.
Alison knew she had a problem. “I often bought something every day. Usually it was something small, but I just needed to buy it,” she says. “I spent money that I got for my birthday, and when I was short of cash, I borrowed money from friends or my parents. When I couldn’t go shopping, I felt anxious. Then one day, my parents just looked at all the stuff in my room and said, This is crazy!I knew they were right. I needed some big changes in my life.”
Alison now gets help with her problem and feels she has changed. She no longer thinks she’s a shopaholic. “When I want to buy something in a shop, I ask myself two questions,” she says. “Do I need it Can I afford it The answer to both questions is usually ‘no’, so I walk away. It’s great!”

(2025连云港灌云县中考一模)Have you ever thought about what’s more important, looking fashionable or feeling comfortable Many people choose style over comfort and some even go to extremes (极端) to follow fashion. But we should remember: being fashionable isn’t everything. It’s more important to be healthy.
Some people believe that they need to be a certain size to look good. So, they start extreme diets. They might not eat meals or eat too little, which can make them feel sick. Is it a healthy way to live
Also, many girls wear shoes with very high heels to make them look taller. But these shoes can actually hurt their feet and make it hard to walk comfortably. Some even wear tight clothes that influence blood circulation, making it hard to breathe. Should we put fashion over comfort and physical health
Besides, some boys and girls spend a lot of time and money changing their hair color. The material they use is usually harmful to their health. To make their hair straight or curly, they also use tools that are hot enough to burn their hair. But using these tools too often can make the hair dry or even burnt. Is it really worth it to risk our health, spending so much time and money
So, let’s rethink what’s really important. Is it fashion or is it our well-being Clothes or hairstyles don’t tell us anything about a person’s character. Instead of spending a lot of time choosing clothes, we could use that time to do fun things with friends. And instead of following extreme diets, let’s eat properly and exercise regularly. Remember, your worth is not decided by your appearance, but by who you are as a person.

(2025连云港经开区中考一模)Ordering takeouts is very popular nowadays because it is convenient. More than 60 percent of the people in China order takeout food at least twice a week. If people don’t want to eat out, they can just order takeouts on the smart phone and wait for it to be delivered (送达).
What about people living in ancient times Did they eat takeouts
In fact, there was takeout as far back as the Song Dynasty. According to history books, Emperor Xiaozong (1127-1194) liked to order takeouts late at night. His servants then went around the city to pick up the dishes and bring them back to the palace.
Common people also ordered takeouts. Restaurant waiters would go out into the streets and yell out which dishes could be ordered that day. After hearing the waiters, people could then place an order. Later, delivery workers would bring food to their homes. In the famous Song Dynasty painting Along the River During the Qingming Festival (《清明上河图》), a takeout worker can be seen on a delivery with food in hand.

(2025连云港经开区中考一模)It was half past seven on Monday morning: time to get ready for school. Jay Stone rolled out of bed. He did a couple of quick wake-up exercises and then he went over to his mirror (镜子) and looked at himself.
“Not bad, Stone, not bad,” he said to himself and smiled. Maybe he wasn’t ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes and his thick brown hair, he had the looks that turned girls’ heads. He moved closer to the mirror and smiled, checking his teeth.
“Perfect,” he thought. “Good enough for a toothpaste ad.”
As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. The hours he spent in the gym and doing sit-ups have paid off.
But suddenly, the smile froze. His eyes moved from the upper part of his body down to his legs. His legs were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. He had the upper body of a six-footer, but because of his legs he was much less than six feet! Six inches less! Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls.
Why didn’t his legs grow with the rest of his body He was one of the shortest boys in his class. He was the shortest in his own family, he was even shorter than his “little” sister—by three inches! Where did his legs come from
He certainly didn’t get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old family photos, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother’s side. His short legs were a gift from Grandpa Tuttle.
Thanks a lot, Grandpa!
Of course, the kids at school all noticed Jay’s short legs and they had a nickname (外号) for him: Stubs! Almost no one called him by his real name; they all called him Stubs. Stubs Stone, Jay didn’t like his nickname, but he had to accept it. He had no choice.
But Jay couldn’t see in the mirror what his legs could do. They were quick and strong. He was the youngest player on the Brewer High football team. He could run faster than anyone else in the team and, like a rabbit, he kept going and going. Even at basketball, where the other players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him because of his speed.
Jay shook his head. “Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that’s me,” he said to himself with a little smile. Suddenly, he heard his mother’s voice.
“Jay! It’s breakfast time!”

(2025连云港开发区中考一模)One day, when I was young, my parents took me to a large shopping mall. However, as we passed by a toy store, I was drawn by a shiny toy car in the window. I stopped to take a closer look, and when I turned around, my parents were gone. I was so scared that I began to cry. Luckily, some volunteers noticed me and looked after me. In their company, I slowly calmed down, and finally my parents found me.
I’ve always been thankful for their help and keep this experience in mind. Since then, I have joined volunteer teams and taken part in many activities.
I remember one time when I was at a bus stop, I was especially impressed. My job was to help people get on the right buses. A middle-aged woman with big bags stood alone for a long time, looking confused. I talked with her, found out where she needed to go and told her how to get there. She was going to see her daughter, who hadn’t been home for months because of busy work.
I was glad to help others in this way. Once, I was taking part in a voluntary activity on the riverbank with friends. While picking up rubbish, I found a bunch of keys and a pile of documents on the grass. I waited there for 20 minutes, but no one came. So I phoned a local radio station for help. Finally, a schoolboy arrived and thanked me because the documents were necessary for his exam.

(2025连云港开发区中考一模)The family nursed White Fang with love and care, and White Fang could survive. Wrapped in plaster casts and bandages (石膏和绷带), he lay, sleeping long hours for several weeks.
Then came the day when the last bandage and plaster cast were taken off. It was a special day of celebration. All the family was there.

“The Shu Road is difficult, even more difficult than climbing up to the blue sky,” Chinese poet Li Bai once said. The Shu Road system, or shudao, was an ancient road to the Shu Kingdom, which was separated from the Central Plains of China by many steep mountains.
The Shu Road has been an important link (联系) between the Changjiang River and Yellow River culture for over 2,000 years.
For American scholar Hop Justman, the Shu Road is more than a path, it is a living history book. In 2001, when she first walked on its ancient flagstones (石板), Justman could picture people from the past. She believes the old stones on the road can tell stories of long-ago times. Every part of this road, Justman thinks, has a piece of history. It’s like a book that comes alive. Since then, she has visited the “greatest road in China” many times.
In 2007, Just
