本节课的教学设计采用了读前、读中、读后（即PWP）的阅读教学模式。这三个阶段呈阶梯状逐渐向上拓展，层层递进。在读前阶段，激活学生相关背景知识；读中共分为五个环节，在略读和寻读环节，引导学生掌握文章的主旨大意，构建整体框架；细读阶段，培养学生获取特定信息和挖掘深层信息的能力；巩固阶段是积累和运用本课所学的知识。前几个阶段均是对学生进行语言输入的训练。在读后阶段，目的是使学生将所学知识加以灵活运用，实现知识的迁移，达到语言的输出。
本节课使用了任务型教学法，根据教学内容设计了由简到繁、由易到难、层层深入的任务，
目的是为学生提供更多的语言实践机会，让学生真切体会到“做”中学、“用”中学的乐趣。（读前1个任务、读中5个、读后2个）

〔设计说明〕：头脑风暴的部分是地学生的背景知识的考察，让学生可以以点代面，从整体上了解世界上不只有英美国家讲英语，还有很多种英语。了解不同的英语会让我们更好的感知这门语言。让学生的新输入知识和他们原有的背景知识联系起来，以便于更好的记忆。同时，这一部分有助于学生的跨文化交流意识的培养。

〔设计说明〕：分段落设计题型，形式上有填空、完成表格、任务描述等，力求从多种形式上把握文章细节。期中第三自然段和第四自然段关于语言的发展，细节理解的关键。而这部分最重要的地方就是要学生即有一双善于观察的眼睛，又要能够把握住阅读的时间主线，快速把问题解决。
最后一小段视频的插入，一为佐证现今中国人学习英语热情高，不乏一些佼佼者。二为升华主题，培养学生的情感。
