Para 1: Evidence
The ________ is getting warmer and warmer.
Evidence 1: ______________________________________
Evidence 2: ______________
Evidence 3: ___________________
Earth
a warming ocean and atmosphere
melting ice
rising sea levels
climate
change
P1.We have known about climate change for decades. There is little doubt that Earth is getting warmer and warmer (see the graph). A warming ocean and atmosphere along with melting ice and rising sea levels provide evidence of a dramatic change in the global climate.
P2. In 2013, a lot of people were shocked by a news photo of a dead polar bear that was found on Norway’s Arctic island of Svalbard. According to the scientists who found its dead body, all that remained of the polar bear was “skin and bones”. An expert who has studied polar bears for many years said that from the position of its dead body, the bear appeared to have starved and died. Experts claimed that low sea-ice levels caused by climate change meant the bear could not hunt seals as before, so it had to travel greater distances in order to find food. This alarming case showed how the increase in temperature had an impact on Earth’s ecology.
Time 2013
Where Norway’s Arctic Island of Svalbard(斯瓦尔巴群岛)
What happened A polar bear died of starvation.
Why did it happen The bear cannot hunt seals as before because low sea-ice levels.
Read para. 2 and find the reasons accounting for the death of the polar bear ,then put them in a correct logical order.

Finish a diagram to show how the greenhouse effect works
The rise in temperature
leads to
extreme weather/ natural disasters
extreme rainstorms, heatwaves
examples
serious damage,
costing human lives, economic losses
results
What are the consequences of global temperature rise
Para 4

What are the solutions to the environmental problems
P5.Continued greenhouse gas emissions will result in further warming and long-lasting changes to the global climate. This requires the attention of people all over the world. Governments need to consider making policies and taking appropriate actions and measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. We as individuals can also reduce our “carbon footprint” by restricting the amount of carbon dioxide our lifestyles produce. It is our responsibility to seize every opportunity to educate everyone about global warming, along with its causes and impacts, because this is the most serious issue affecting all of us on this planet. So what will you do to help
governments
individuals
make policies
take appropriate actions and measures
reduce our “carbon footprint” by…
educate everyone about global warming
solutions
What can we do to reduce
“carbon footprint”
Activity 4: Group work
What is “carbon footprint”
Sort the garbage
Abate the use of plastic bags
Value our own role
End wasting resources
Encourage others to participate in it
Turn off the light
Ride a bike or walk to school
Plant more trees.
Help inform those around the danger of global warming…
