第二节 读后续写
Paragraph 1:
One day when I was in the area, I made a big decision. Despite knowing that it was a terrible business decision, I loaded a red mahogany piano onto my little truck. I delivered the piano to the old lady. I placed the new piano in the house, advised her and the little girl to keep the chickens off it and left. I was sure that I had just thrown away a new piano. To my surprise, the payments came in on time with a thank-you note every month.
Paragraph 2:
Twenty years later, while sitting at a bar, I heard the most beautiful piano music behind me. Looking around, I saw a lovely young woman playing a very nice grand piano. Stunned by her great performance, I moved to a table beside her. She stopped and smiled at me politely, “Aren’t you the man who sold my grandma a piano a long time ago ” It didn’t ring a bell, so she started to explain. And I suddenly remembered. My Lord, it was her, the little barefoot girl in the feed sack dress! I was so glad that my kindness did make a real difference.高2027届高一下6月月考重点单词和短语

When I was six, a new family moved into the house next door. There was a girl, Frances, who was about my age. We became best friends soon. I was too young to notice what was really going on in her life, but my mother did.
Mom noticed that Frances never invited anyone into the rooms they lived in. Her mother went off to work very early in the morning and came back looking very tired. And her two older brothers wore dirty clothes and were never at home. Frances was always hungry, and her clothes were often too small.
Mom never mentioned anything to me. But she once asked, “Would you mind if I give Frances some of your clothes ” I agreed. Frances seemed very thrilled.
Mom began to spend more time with Frances and me. She and I had always done kitchen jobs together, but now the three of us were making biscuits and washing up together. Frances was always willing to help, as long as Mom was there. And sometimes they would just sit together and talk while I was off doing something else.
That routine (日常事物) continued until we were both teenagers. But then her mother decided they were moving back to Ireland. We promised to write to each other.
One day, my mom called to say that a letter from Frances had arrived. “When I was four, my father died. My mother tried to make money. She ignored me. Your mom saved me. Without her love and attention, I would never have survived (渡过难关) my childhood. I have used your mother’s example as my guide to care for people around me.”
My mother taught me many things, but this was her most valuable lesson. Watching her example and seeing the life-changing results were powerful. We will never know how or when our acts of kindness will influence others, but it’s always better to try.
24. What do we know about Frances’ family from Paragraph 2
A. They were unhappy to come to a new place.
B. They tried hard to avoid their neighbors.
C. They cared little about each other.
D. They lived a very difficult life.

A. Proud. B. Excited. C. Calm. D. Confident.
26. What does the author try to show through the fourth paragraph
A. Frances was a good helper. B. Frances was used to the routine.
C. Frances got on well with the author’s mom. D. Frances was good at doing kitchen jobs.
27. What can be the best title for the text
A. Teaching by example B. Lifelong friends
C. My mom’s life D. Being brave to try

Research led by ecologist Bart Hoekstra of the University of Amsterdam shows that birds are affected by the mass use of fireworks on New Year’s Eve up to a distance of 10 km (6 miles) away.
With data from weather radars and bird counts an international team of researchers revealed how many birds take off immediately after the start of the fireworks, at what distance from fireworks this occurs and which species groups mainly react. “Birds take off as a result of an acute flight response due to sudden noise and light. We already knew that many water birds react strongly, but now we also see the effect on other birds throughout the Netherlands, ”says ecologist Bart Hoekstra of the University of Amsterdam. In the scientific journal Frontiers in Ecology and the Environment, the researchers therefore argue for large fireworks-free zones.
Last year, other researchers at IBED discovered that geese are so affected by fireworks that they spend an average of 10% longer looking for food than normal during at least the next 11 days. They apparently need that time to restore their energy to their former condition, after fleeing from the fireworks.
Because 62% of all birds in the Netherlands live within a radius of 2. 5 km of inhabited areas, the consequences of fireworks are high for all birds throughout the country. “Flying requires a lot of energy, so ideally birds should be disturbed as little as possible during the cold winter months. Measures to ensure this are especially important in open areas such as grasslands, where many larger birds spend the winter. The effects of fireworks on birds are less pronounced near forests and semi-open habitats. In addition, smaller birds such as tits and finches live there, which are less likely to fly away from disturbance.”
The authors argue for fireworks-free zones in areas where large birds live. Hoekstra: “These buffer zones could be smaller in areas where light and sound travel less far, such as near forests. Furthermore, fireworks should mainly be lit at central locations in built-up areas, as far away from birds as possible. It would be best for birds if we moved towards light shows without sound, such as drone shows or decorative fireworks without very loud bangs.”
28. What can we learn about the research
A. It’s the first one about fireworks’ effects on birds.
B. It’s conducted by collecting data from weather radars.
C. It shows the extent of the fireworks’ influence on birds.
D. It keeps track of birds throughout Netherlands and beyond.
29. Why did geese spend more time looking for food
A. To make up for the lost energy. B. To store more food in case.
C. To find a new source of energy. D. To find a place without fireworks.
30. What does the underlined word “pronounced” in Para. 4 mean
A. Predictable. B. Noticeable. C. Admirable. D. Avoidable.
31. What can be the best title for the passage
A. Panic in the air B. Fireworks-free zones
C. Fireworks in the world D. Birds throughout the country
D
Inside an amazing show center in Beijing, a two-armed robot is busy making sugar paintings. Its smooth movements attract a crowd of visitors. The robot is acting as a “skilled worker” of this traditional art of Beijing. But the machine also acts as both a witness (见证) to and a guide for the increasing mix of fields of knowledge that come from different places. This mix challenges the limits of time and geography.
At the show, hundreds of experts from home and abroad are considering the relationship between cultural heritage and new technologies. For many, the promotion of traditional culture is one of the areas in which technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) can play a key role.
“AI helps pass on culture,” said Guo Chunchao, head of Tencent’s Hunyuan Text to 3D project. Yu Minjing, a teacher at Tianjin University, agreed with him. She led her team to use VR technology to conduct a firework show and make traditional Hanfu clothes. With AI, the inheritance (传承) of traditional culture can solve the limits of space and geography, which helps traditional skills that used to be taught by talking, to be spread more widely and better, she said.
The mix of AI technology with VR,3D and other technologies has also helped create cloud walking-around experiences, attracting young people to traditional culture, Guo said.
However, some experts warned that while technology is important for preservation, it’s even more important to think about the people in the process.
Renata Sansone, from Italy, said that some archaeological sites are very difficult for everybody to understand, but the use of technologies may make a difference in getting more people interested and playing their part in preservation. Many Chinese experts agree with her. Yu Minjing thinks that saving and passing on cultural relics should focus on people. How much people like and accept it is very important for protecting cultural relics well.
Guo holds a similar view, calling for schools, businesses, and culture groups to work together. Each group should try their best to help make cultural relics digital.
32. Why is the robot mentioned in paragraph 1
A. To introduce the challenges the robot faces.
B. To call for people to protect traditional cultures.
C. To praise sugar paintings’ role in cultural protection.
D. To show a new function of technology in traditional culture.
33. What is the main reason for Yu Minjing’s team using AI and VR technologies
A. Solving space problems in culture sharing.
B. Making new technologies develop well.
C. Attracting more young people to their show.
D. Taking the place of old teaching methods.
34. Which of the following statements would Renata Sansone agree with
A. Schools will play a key role in cultural preservation.
B. Archaeological sites are best explored with technology.
C. It’s important to make the public join in cultural preservation.
D. Cloud walking-around has become a major way to experience culture.
35. What’s the best title for the text
A. The Popular Rise of Robot Artists B. The Role of Technology in Cultural Protection
C. The Influence of AI on Cultural Exchange D. The Future Development of Traditional Skills

After graduating from college, I worked as a salesman for a piano company. We advertised our pianos in small town newspapers and then, when we received many replies, we would load our little trucks, drive into the area and sell the pianos to those who had replied. Every time we advertised, we would receive a reply on a postcard which said, “Please bring me a new piano for my little granddaughter. It must be red mahogany (红木). I can pay $10 a month with my egg money.” Of course, we could not sell a new piano for $10 a month. No finance company would carry a contract with payments that small, so we ignored her postcards.
One day, however, I happened to be in that area calling on other replies, and out of curiosity I decided to meet the old lady. I found pretty much what I expected: The old lady lived in a one-room cabin in the middle of a cotton field. The cabin had a dirt floor and there were chickens in the house. Obviously, she could not have qualified to purchase anything on credit—no car, no phone, no real job, nothing but a roof over her head. I could see daylight through the roof in several places.
Her little granddaughter was about 8, barefoot and wearing a dress made out of cotton bags holding animal feed. I explained to the old lady that we could not sell a new piano for $10 a month and that she should stop writing to us every time she saw our advertisement.
I drove away heartsick, but my advice had no effect—she still sent us the same postcard every time we advertised. Always wanting a new piano, red mahogany, she swore she would never miss a $10 payment. It was sad.
Several years later, I owned my own piano company, and each time I advertised in that area, the old lady’s postcards would come to me.
注意:
