You will provide them with the necessary resources to succeed and advise them through trauma (精神创伤), unemployment, education difficulties, addiction and poverty.
Many social workers are associated with governmental agencies, but there are also jobs in schools, nonprofit organizations and hospitals.
Child psychology
Studying child psychology may lead to a career option. Psychologists can provide support for children with mental-health problems and give them a place to be open about their feelings.
You may wish to become a school psychologist and guide children (and their parents) through the education system while dealing with mental illness or trauma. The green, natural forest absorbs carbon dioxide from the air through photo- synthesis (光合作用). There is another way of dealing with the climate crisis. That is setting up fields of dark-colored solar panels (太阳能电池板), also known as “solar forests”, which replace power stations that use fossil fuels such as coal and gas to make electricity, thus mitigating harmful emissions (排放) of greenhouse gases.
But since they are both relatively dark, they absorb a lot of solar radiation. Some of the energy is used for photosynthesis in natural forests or to produce electricity in “solar forests”, but most returns to the atmosphere, heating it up. Then what would be the more effective land use option in terms of the climate crisis: planting a forest, or building solar panels This issue has long been debated by decision-makers around the world. Now, we may have an answer, thanks to a new study.
First, the researchers compared the impact of a forest on the climate crisis in a dry area to that of a solar farm in a similar environment. The researchers found that the albedo effect (反射效应) of both of these “forests” was similar, but that the absorption or prevention of carbon emissions was very different. It turns out that it takes 2.5 years for the heat emitted by solar farms to be balanced by the carbon emissions that are avoided, thanks to the energy they produce. In the case of a natural forest of similar size, it would take more than 100 years of photosynthesis to balance its heating effect.
The researchers also studied how the heating-cooling relationship changed in other climates and found that in more humid environments, the heating effect of planting large numbers of trees is smaller. And the break-even point is reached within 15 to 18 years.
“In dry places, building solar forests seems far more effective in addressing the climate crisis. Meanwhile, forests absorb about a third of annual carbon emissions and play a vital role in the global rain cycle, in maintaining biodiversity and in many other environmental and social contexts. Preventing them from being cut down and planting more trees in humid areas are of great significance,” explains one of the researchers in the study.
4 .What does the underlined word “mitigating” in Paragraph 1 probably mean
A .Releasing. B .Decreasing. C .Generating. D .Stabilizing.
5 .What is the root cause of the long-running debate over the two types of forests
A .They cause much damage to the land.
B .They result in a serious loss of farmland.
C .They contribute to the warming of the atmosphere.
D .They lose energy during the absorption of solar radiation.
6 .What did the researchers find in the study conducted in the dry environment
A .The natural forest exhibits a stronger albedo effect.
B .The solar forest can generate more energy in dry areas.
C .The solar forest is superior in balancing the heating effect.
D .The natural forest is more effective in solving the climate crisis.
7 .What can be concluded from the last paragraph
A .More trees should be planted in dry regions.
B .More methods should be adopted to address the climate crisis.
C .Fields of solar panels should be set up everywhere on the earth.
D .Building solar panels and planting trees should be effectively combined.

The world’s first-ever floating farm is expected to open soon. The farm is located in Rotterdam, a port city about 50 miles away from Amsterdam.
Built near the mouth of the river Meuse, the farm consists of three levels. About 40 cows will be moved to the second level of the farm in November. The level above them will house greenhouses that grow grass and crops needed to feed the cows. Meanwhile, the bottom level will hold any necessary machines and packaging for the milk and yogurt. By December, the farm is expected to be producing more than 200 gallons of milk per day.
In addition to producing fresh milk and yogurt, the farm produces and sells fresh food that runs through a closed cycle and ends up at the customer. This causes almost no waste, bringing the reduction of food’s travel from production to consumers.
The farm is the idea of Minke van Wingerden, a partner in the development company behind the project, Beladon. In 2012, she and her husband got caught in Hurricane Sandy during a business trip to New. York City. With the storm preventing food delivery trucks from getting on the road, local people were unable to find fresh produce in stores.
The event pushed Wingerden and her partners to find a way to produce food closer to people’s locations in order to avoid losses of supplies in the future. They eventually came up with the idea of floating farms, which would make use of otherwise. unused space in. the water and meanwhile shorten the distance between stores: and farms.
After launching the Rotterdarn: project, Beladon will work on opening more floating farms. The company is designing floating chicken farms and floating vertical farming greenhouses. The company is in talks with another Dutch city for a second farm.
Wingerden and her husband also believe that new communities should be built with food access in mind. The area by the Port of Rotterdam. for example, is on track to be filled with residential space and offices-in the next several years, and Wingerden said food production should be at “the heart of that community”.
8 .What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about
A .The equipment needed in the floating farm.
B .The key role cows play in the floating farm.
C .The structure and constitution of the floating farm.
D .The differences among the levels of the floating farm.
9 .What is the main advantage of the floating farm
A .It plays a role in recycling wastes. B .It offers custom-made foods.
C .It acts as a shelter in a hurricane. D .It cuts the cost of shipping.
10 .How did Wingerden get the idea of the floating farm
A .With the help of the scientists. B .Through her personal experience.
C .Getting encouraged by news. D .By making research on technology.
11 .What can we infer about the floating farm according to Wingerden
A .It makes people get food more easily.
B .It saves more residential and working space.
C .It helps people learn about food production.
D .It improves the attraction of new communities.

When I was 14, I found myself in trouble for not doing my homework, which led me to Room E for school punishment. My teacher, Mr. McDonald, placed a stick on my desk and told me, “Think of as many ways to use this stick as you can.” When I looked puzzled, he smiled and gave me a tip: “Imagine you are someone or something else — a baby, a dog, or a bird — and look at the stick again.”
That moment stuck with me. To this day, I consider it the best punishment I ever received. Mr. McDonald’s advice — “Look at the stick with different eyes” — is a great introduction to the concept of Umwelt, developed by German biologist Jakob von Uexküll.
Uexküll’s Umwelt refers to the idea that every living creature perceives the world differently, based on its biological makeup and how it interacts with its environment. There is no “one” objective world; instead, every creature experiences its own version of reality. Take bees, for example. To a human, a flower is just a beautiful object with pleasant colors and fragrances. However, for a bee, flowers are much more than that. Bees can see ultraviolet (UV) light, which humans cannot. In a bee’s world, flowers reveal intricate UV patterns that act as road signs, leading them to nectar (花蜜). This UV-rich environment helps bees find food and pollinate (授粉) flowers, ensuring both their survival and that of plants.
Similarly, humans also experience the world through their own perspectives (视角), shaped by what they care about and find meaningful. Imagine sitting through a dull presentation, barely paying attention. Suddenly, the speaker mentions a topic that directly interests you, and you become fully engaged. Uexküll’s idea teaches us that people, like bees, connect with the world in unique ways. The key takeaway for presenters is to craft their messages to appeal to different interests. By doing so, they have a better chance of reaching and engaging a diverse audience.
12 .What advice did Mr. McDonald give to the author for using the stick
A .Think from new angles. B .Discuss ideas with others.
C .Write down quick thoughts. D .Observe the stick closely.
13 .What mainly shapes the way bees perceive flowers
A .The patterns on the flowers. B .Their ability to detect UV light.
C .The environment where they live. D .Their experience of finding nectar.
14 .What should presenters do to engage their audience
A .Keep presentations short. B .Focus on just one topic.
C .Use fewer technical terms. D .Adapt to different interests.
15 .Which of the following is the best title for the text
A .Shifting Perspectives: The Power of Seeing Differently
B .Uexküll’s Umwelt: How Reality Defines Living Beings
C .UV Vision and Beyond: How Bees Experience the World
D .Learning from McDonald: A Lesson of Boosting Creativity

When I was in high school, I was not particularly good at sports. My friends used to joke that I was more likely to trip over my own feet than to catch a ball. Despite my lack of athletic skills, I decided to try out for the school's soccer team. I wanted to prove to myself that I could overcome my fears and insecurities.
On the day of the tryouts, I was extremely nervous. My hands were shaking and my heart was beating fast. As I stepped onto the field, I saw the other students, who were much more experienced and confident than I was. I felt like turning back, but a small voice inside me kept pushing me forward.
The coach blew the whistle and the tryouts began. I tripped a few times and missed several passes. It seemed like everyone was doing better than I was. But then, something unexpected happened. One of the players injured his ankle and had to sit out. The coach called me over and asked if I could fill in for him.
With my heart in my throat, I nodded and took my place on the field. I remembered all the times I had practiced alone in my backyard, and I decided to give it my best shot. To my surprise, I managed to make a few decent plays. I even scored a goal. The coach gave me an approving gesture and I felt a rush of confidence.
After the tryouts were over, the coach announced the names of the students who made the team. I held my breath, hoping against hope that my name would be on the list. The minutes felt like hours as I waited for the final name to be called. My heart was beating even harder now, each second dragging on.

A few moments later, the coach called out my name. I was stunned for a moment before a wave of relief and joy washed over me. I had made the team! My friends were equally surprised and cheered loudly. It felt surreal, like a dream I didn’t want to wake up from. I realized that my hard work had paid off and that I had overcome a significant personal challenge. It wasn’t just
about making the team; it was about proving to myself that I could do anything I set my mind to.
I went to thank the coach after the tryouts. He smiled warmly and said, “I knew you could do it. Keep working hard and you’ll go far. ” His words meant the world to me. I promised myself that I would continue to improve and give my best effort in every practice and game. This
experience taught me the value of perseverance and self-belief. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one where I no longer doubted my abilities but embraced challenges with confidence and determination.
