An Educational Travel to an Old Revolutionary Base Area
Last month, students in our school went on an educational travel to an old revolutionary base area in our city. We did lots of meaningful things there.
In the morning, as soon as we arrived, we were amazed at a grand museum with three floors. The guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. They told us many stories about the Chinese people fighting against the enemies, which touched us greatly. After that, we learned to sing red songs. These songs encouraged us to learn from the spirit of the soldiers. Although they met with so many difficulties or even lost their lives, they never gave up. In the afternoon, we went to an old site where we learned more about how hard our pioneers lived in the past.
What an educational travel it was! Although we now live in a rich and peaceful country, we should still pass on the spirit of our pioneers and make our motherland more and more powerful!
(二)主题:Ways of making better use of ten minutes’ break between classes
Last week, our class had a hot discussion on ways of making better use of ten minutes’ break between classes. Here are some suggestions given by my classmates.
Some students think during the break, students should try to discuss with their classmates about the unsolved problems so that they can solve the problems in time. Some sports lovers suggest that students should do some sports to relax themselves. Besides, others think it necessary for them to get prepared for the next class. By doing so, they will learn more efficiently (有效地).
Personally speaking, ten minutes’ break is important for teenagers. Since we have studied for 40 minutes, why not have some water and rest for a while If we don’t feel tired, we can finish a little homework so that we may go to bed early at night. Keep in mind that we should avoid making much noise.
In general, we all hope to make better use of ten minutes’ break between classes.

Dear Emily,
I’m very glad to receive your e-mail. Everything is going fine with me these days. First, I’d like to share my favorite movie with you. I like the movies that can teach me many lessons and give me inspiration. This winter vacation, I watched Na Zha 2, which is the most popular around China. He is brave and intelligent. Although he has some difficulties, he tries his best to overcome them and achieve his dream at last. As a student in Grade 9, his story inspires me so much. Just as he says, “My future is up to myself, not by God.” Now, I am lost in my studies to enter my dream senior high school.
As for my family rules, I’m not allowed to do many things by my parents, including going out with friends freely and staying up too late. I understand my parents. They know me best and we have the same goals. So I always follow these rules and enjoy the company of my parents.
Yours,
Li Hua
(四)主题:关于父母吵架
Dear Cassie,
I’m sorry to hear that you are upset because your parents fight a lot. As your good friend, I’d like to show you my opinions.
First of all, find out the reasons why they fight. For example, if they have different opinions about their work, I think it’s natural. Adults can’t always reach an agreement with each other. If so, you don’t need to take it too seriously. Sometimes, when they calm down, they will better understand each other after exchanging their opinions.
However, if you are the cause of their fight, you should consider stopping them. For example, you are supposed to take good care of yourself so that your parents will have more time to relax from work. It’s also better for you to share some housework in your free time. When you can’t do well in your schoolwork, it’s wise to talk with them patiently about the mistakes and ask them for good advice. Then you should promise that you will study harder to improve yourself as soon as possible.
I hope my suggestions will be of great help.
Yours,
Li Hua
(五)主题:Our life has changed for the better
Our life has developed rapidly. In the past, most people lived in small houses without any modern machines, like TV sets, washing machines and so on. When they were free, they didn’t have many choices for leisure activities. So they could only swim in the river or sea. For children, they used to have few books except textbooks. Besides, people travelled on foot or by bike, which took a lot of time.
With the development of science and technology, we are now living a happier life. For example, we now live in comfortable houses. Some of them even have big gardens and swimming pools. So people can swim in the swimming pools in the neighborhood. It’s much safer than swimming in the river. For children, the government has built many modern libraries which provide interesting books about different subjects. It’s getting more and more convenient for people to travel around as well.
In general, we are proud that we live in such a rich and peaceful country.
(六)主题:How often do you help do chores at home
Hello, everyone! We asked students of our school about how often they help do chores at home.
According to the survey, we know 37% of the students do chores once a week, 24% do chores three or four times a week and 23% do chores twice a week. To our surprise, only 1% do chores every day while 15% never do chores.
Personally speaking, there are several reasons why students don’t do chores often. On one hand, some students are too busy with schoolwork. On the other hand, it’s parents’ fault not to ask teenagers to share the chores. In my opinion, parents should encourage kids to take more responsibility at home. Besides, schools can offer some labor education to teach them the value of doing chores. Doing chores is good for both children and parents. It will not only lead to a happier life but also help student develop a sense of responsibility and be independent.
(七)主题:Big changes I have experienced in my life and the solutions to them.
Dear Peter,
First of all, congratulations on your moving to a new school. As we all know, life is always full of changes. So don’t be afraid of your new school life. I have the same changes as you. I’d like to share my experiences with you.
I used to live with my family. My parents took good care of me and I needn;t care about anything except my schoolwork. However, when I entered junior high school, I had to go to a boarding school because of my parents’ busy work. So I was asked to do everything on my own, including washing clothes, sweeping the floor and getting on well with my roommates. I felt nervous at first, but I tried my best to learn new things. My teachers and roommates were so kind that they offered me lots of help, and gradually I improved my living skills greatly.
I’m sure you will benefit a lot from your new life, too.
Yours,
Li Hua
(八)主题:读悯农有感
Today we learned a poem about one of Sympathy for the Farmers by Li Shen. Let me tell you the story.
The poem describes how hard the farmers used to work. In the picture, the farmers are still working in the heat at noon even though the sun is shining brightly. The sweat from their body drop into the earth. Do you know how the food on your plate comes from and each grain was really hard to get
After learning the poem, I feel sorry for what we do every day. As teenagers born in the 21st century, we never feel hungry. Instead, we sometimes even waste food. So from now on, we should take food seriously and take action to value food. For example, we never cook more food than we can eat at home. Besides, if we don’t eat up the food in the restaurant, it’s better for us to pack it or offer it to some homeless people instead of throwing it away. All in all, it’s a shame to waste food. We should treasure food and farmers’ hard work!
