Dear Tony,
I’ve learned from your post that you need an adviser to help you learn Chinese. So I’m writing to recommend myself.
I’m Li Hua, a student from Xinhua High School. First of all, I’m outgoing, friendly and open-minded. I’m always ready to help others, which helps me make friends more easily. Besides, I can speak both Chinese and English so smoothly that I will have no trouble communicating with you. Most importantly, I love reading books about Western and Chinese culture and customs. I’m sure I will help you improve your Chinese.
I will appreciate it if you can take me into consideration / if you can choose me as your adviser. Looking forward to your reply.

2.主题:给七年级新生的建议
Dear Frank,
I’m glad to know you’re coming to study in our school. As a graduate, I’d like to share some useful suggestions with you.
To begin with, it’s necessary for you to prepare some school things, including some notebooks and dictionaries, especially a Chinese one because you will need them in your study. Besides, keep in mind that the junior high school life is quite different from the primary school life. For example, there are more subjects. So it’s important for you to hold a positive attitude. Keep active, hard-working and happy, and you will make great progress. Meanwhile, it’s a Chinese tradition to respect teachers and get along with your classmates. Last but not least, you can develop some hobbies to learn more about Chinese culture, like making paper cutting and sky lanterns.
I hope my advice will work. Looking forward to seeing you!
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua
3.主题:介绍中国传统社团
(一)Dear Alice,
I'm glad you are interested in our school clubs. There are many kinds of clubs in our school. Among them, I’d like to tell you about our paper-cutting club.
Paper-cutting has been around in China for over 1,500 years. Every Tuesday at 3 p.m., we meet in the art room. Teachers show us how to cut paper with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals and other fun things about Chinese history. The best part is to stick our works on windows. People believe these cuttings can bring good luck! However, paper cutting sounds very easy but it can be difficult to do. So if you join the club, you are supposed to work hard.
Through this club, I'm learning about Chinese traditions while making beautiful art. Why not join us I'm sure you'll enjoy it!
Yours,
Zhang Hua
(二)Dear Alice,
I’m glad you’re interested in our clubs! Let me tell you about our Beijing Opera Club.
Beijing Opera has a history of over two hundred years in China. Every Wednesday, our club meets at 2 p.m. We learn to paint facial makeup(脸谱) and act out stories with our teachers’ help. We also get to try on colorful costumes and watch classic performances.
I think Beijing Opera is an important part of Chinese culture. Through the club, I’ve learned about its unique(独一无二的) art forms like singing and acting. It’s fun and helps me understand our traditions better.
Why not join us You’ll discover the beauty of this traditional art!
Yours,
Zhang Hua

Dear Mike,
I know your really want to take part in some competitions to improve your Chinese and I think the Chinese Speaking Competition. Here are some ways to help you get ready for it.
To begin with, it’s a good idea to watch some speech videos. While watching, please pay attention to the speakers’ body language and expressions on their faces. Meanwhile, you can read after them to get your pronunciation right. All these things can help improve your speaking skills. Besides, I advise you to practice with your friends. On the one hand, they can give you some advice and correct some mistakes in your speech. On the other hand, we all know practice makes perfect. Most importantly, you are supposed to choose a good subject that will interest teachers and classmates, such as the use of AI, environmental protection and so on.
Anyway, hope everything goes well. Good luck!
Yours,
Li Hua

6.主题:邀请外教到你家过周末。
Hi, Steve!
I’m Li Hua. I hear you’d like to experience some more Chinese cultures before going back. So why not come to my home for the weekend I have made a good plan.
As both of us like sports, let’s play basketball in the gym near my house in the morning. After that, we can practice writing with a Chinese brush together. It’s not easy but makes us peaceful. Meanwhile, you can sense the beauty of the Chinese characters. I have been practicing it for five years. So don’t feel nervous. For lunch, we are going to make jiaozi, one of the most traditional foods. It must be meaningful to have jiaozi made by ourselves. I’m sure you will have great fun.
Wait for your reply!
Yours,
Li Hua
7.主题:讨论普通高中和职业高中
These days, vocational education has become a hot topic. Different people have different ideas.
Some students think they can get more knowledge in a normal high school and then they will have a chance to get into a good university and study further . Also, they can have more time to find out what their dream job is so that they can get fully prepared for it.
But others think it is a good choice to go to a vocational school. Firstly , they can learn practical skills to improve themselves . Secondly, if students are weak in learning traditional subjects, they may choose vocational school. In this way, they will build confidence. Thirdly, they can work for people earlier and support themselves.
In my opinion, vocational education is a good way for students who don’t do well in schoolwork. Our society needs both university graduates and skilled workers. With proper guidance and great efforts, every student can find their own way to success.
