Street artists have the unique ability to turn the entire world into their canvas (画布). Artist David Zinn’s works are no different.
Zinn skillfully takes advantage of the world around him to make his lovely creations come alive. Based on the seasonal conditions around him, Zinn mixes his character-filled chalk drawings with fallen leaves and more long-lasting features of the natural surroundings, such as rocks and the lines on sidewalks. Zinn’s drawings remind people of illustrations in children’s books and often show animals with a lovely appearance.
Although he draws a variety of creatures, his art does have some repeating characters — including Sluggo, a small green animal; Philomena, a pig that can fly; and Nadine, a brave little mouse. Besides the sidewalks, Zinn chooses to draw his creations on staircases, street lights, and other parts of city life. The artist also uses optical illusions (视觉错觉) in his work, providing the appearance of bottomless cracks (裂缝) or holes in sidewalks for his characters to climb in and out of.
Since 1987, Zinn has been creating his special chalk art around Ann Arbor, Michigan. However, his drawings have made sidewalks attractive all over the world. Due to the materials he uses and the fact that his art is often in places with a lot of foot traffic, all of Zinn’s chalk drawings only last as long as nature permits. But this adds to their uniqueness, as no two drawings will ever be exactly the same.
In order to be viewed, Zinn’s works force people to look down and pay attention to the environment around them, which is more and more difficult in our ever-changing and increasingly connected world. However, his colorful creatures encourage people to stop and smell the roses, and find something lovely.
4.How does Zinn bring his works to life

5.What does Zinn like drawing in his works
A.Lovely animals. B.Busy streets.

The San Diego Zoo is celebrating an uncommon event: 41 Indian narrow-headed softshell turtles (软壳龟) were born here. This is the first time this South Asian species has been successfully raised in North America.
These turtles typically live at the bottom of deep rivers and streams in countries like northern India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal. Adult turtles can grow up to 3.6 feet long and weigh as much as 440 pounds. During the rainy season in central India and dry months in other areas, female turtles lay up to 190 eggs in a place on the beach and cover them with dirt. When the baby turtles break out of their eggs, they are very small — just 1.5 inches long.
The San Diego Zoo got its first two turtles of this kind in 1997. The zoo hoped to learn more about the species, whose numbers were falling because of pollution, damage to their living places, and being caught by humans for their eggs, meat, or as pets. The species is endangered, and no one knows exactly how many remain in the wild.
In 2001, the zoo added a male turtle after finding out the first two were female. Patiently, staff waited over 20 years for them to have babies. This summer, they found four nests (窝). In August, 11 baby turtles were born. Then in September, 30 more tiny ones were found in a nest they missed before. “They are really cute,” said Kim Gray, the zoo’s head.
The babies were moved to an indoor habitat where they can be protected and studied. The zoo plans to give about half of the baby turtles to other zoos that want to help protect the species. “This is so momentous a moment for us,” Gray said, “and a big step forward in the preservation of this species.”

Astronauts travelling around Earth might soon be able to make their own delicious, creamy breakfast. This is thanks to Australian high school students. They want to see if the astronauts can make yogurt (酸奶) in space!
A team of six students at Haileybury, an independent high school in Melbourne, are working on a program with Swinburne researchers to study the effects of microgravity, which refers to a condition where the force of gravity is extremely weak or nearly absent, on bacteria (细菌). They hope to perfect the conditions under which astronauts could make their own yogurt. They placed the bacteria producing yogurt in a culture and packed 36 containers with frozen milk and the bacteria. Then, they sent the containers to the International Space Station (ISS), where the astronauts warmed up the milk and bacteria to study them with these students.
But how exactly do bacteria make yogurt It all starts with the bacteria that live in milk. These bacteria eat some of the sugar in milk and create a kind of chemical—acid, which makes the milk thick and creamy. This is called fermentation (发酵).
The astronauts will study these containers to see how yogurts change depending on the type of milk — either full cream cow’s milk or soy milk. They will also test different fermentation time — either 24, 48 or 72 hours.
When the yogurts come back to Earth, the students will check them. One Haileybury student, Chiara Sgroi said one goal of the experiment is to figure out which yogurt is the healthiest. “We can even get to taste them, which is pretty exciting,” said Sgroi. She noted the temperature inside the ISS, around 23℃, is significantly cooler than the 37℃ or warmer that yogurt is usually cultured at.
One day, we might be able to send astronauts with some frozen bacteria and milk. We hope that they can easily make healthful yogurt in space.
12.What are the students studying concerning yogurt-making bacteria
A.How bacteria react to microgravity. B.When bacteria in milk grow fast.
C.What sugar does to frozen bacteria. D.Why cold affects bacteria activity.
13.What’s the function of paragraph 3
A.To make a comparison. B.To explain a process.
C.To illustrate an argument. D.To give a suggestion.
14.What is Sgroi’s attitude to the experiment
A.Unappreciative. B.Doubtful. C.Hopeful. D.Unclear.
15.Which is the suitable title for the text
A.Bacteria Change Yogurt’s Taste
B.Students’ Yogurt Improves ISS Diets
C.Astronauts Enjoy Yogurt in Space
D.Students Help Make Space Yogurt
We may not be able to paint like the artist who painted the Mona Lisa or write books like Hemingway. But everyone has a special power — creativity. However, many things in life can stop creativity from growing, and lots of people don’t realize how important it is. In fact, creativity helps us become successful and grow as people. 16
Trying different hobbies is a great way. Some students find one hobby they love and keep doing it, always trying new things within it to help their creativity grow. Others like to try many hobbies. 17 For example, you could try singing freely in summer to make up your own songs, and learn the guitar in fall, creating short songs about your day. The best part is that hobbies have no strict rules. 18 This helps your creativity work naturally.
Discover our creativity through hobbies. When you are interested in painting, you might mix colors that you wouldn’t usually use to show a special feeling. 19 In gardening, you could plant flowers in new patterns, like circles or waves, or put interesting small objects among the plants to show your own style. Even baking can be creative — you can shape cookies into funny forms. These hobbies help you think of new ideas and be creative.
20 When we make something cool by means of our hobbies, we start to see the world in a new way. This can bring good changes to our lives. And who knows Maybe your hobby will lead you to discover a hidden talent you never knew you had!
A.You can try new hobbies freely.
B.Then, how can we find our creativity
C.Can creativity help us see our hobbies
D.Just move on to something else, like taking photos.
E.They change them every few months to get new ideas.
F.Or you add unusual things to your pictures to tell stories.

Jack used to be a librarian. He loved reading books more than anything else in the world. Every week, he made it a rule to finish two books. His favorite thing was getting lost in stories by great writers. For years, he dreamed of writing and publishing his own novel and even started working on one.
But when Jack turned forty-five, something terrible happened. He developed a serious eye problem. Day by day, his eyesight got worse. Soon, reading a page made his eyes burn, and watching TV for more than ten minutes felt like a struggle. What he loved most became impossible. The sight of his bookshelf, filled with unread novels and his half-finished novel, only deepened his pain. Jack stopped smiling. He stayed in his room all day, feeling hopeless and alone.
On the other side of the town, a 15-year-old student named Clare learned about Reading Friends, a charity program in Britain, which invites volunteers to visit people who can’t read anymore and read books aloud to them. Clare thought it sounded amazing and signed up right away. He imagined the joy of bringing stories back to those who had lost access to them, hoping his young voice could bridge the gap of silence. When he heard about Jack’s story, he decided to help.
At first, Jack refused Clare’s offer. “What’s the point ” he told his wife Sadie who couldn’t read due to her illness. “I’m not the reader I used to be.” Three times, he closed the door on Clare. But the young volunteer didn’t give up. One day, he called Sadie and asked what kind of books Jack liked. “Ernest Hemingway,” Sadie replied. “He’s read all of Hemingway’s novels at least twice.” Hearing this, Clare had an idea. The next Saturday afternoon, Clare stood in front of Jack’s house, holding a copy of The Old Man and the Sea written by Hemingway.

46.Dear classmates,
Today, I’d like to talk about regular exercise, an important part of a healthy lifestyle.
First, exercise makes our bodies strong. When we run, swim, or play sports, our hearts and muscles work better. For example, walking or dancing for just 30 minutes a day can keep us fit and active. Second, exercise helps us relax. After studying hard, moving our bodies can reduce stress and make us happier.
So, let’s make exercise a habit! Try walking to school, playing basketball with friends, or even dancing to your favorite music. Small steps lead to big changes!
Thank you.

Clare took a deep breath and knocked on the door. He was determined to break through Jack’s walls with the author’s powerful words that had once meant so much to Jack. Then, Jack opened the door slowly, looking surprised. Clare held up the book, saying, “I thought we could start with something you know well. “ Without waiting for a response, he stepped inside and began to read. That afternoon, Clare’s voice filled the living room. As he read Jack the novel, Jack’s eyes lit up. For the first time in months, he forgot about his pain. He smiled and invited him to come to his home every Saturday.
Every Saturday, Jack looked forward to seeing Clare early. He and Sadie prepared tea and snacks for Jack. They didn’t just read — they discussed ideas. Jack told his stories, and Clare typed them down. The half-finished writing he had left because of his eye problem started to grow again with their work. Clare’s father was a publisher, so he asked his father to help Jack. Months later, Jack’s book was published. Though Jack couldn’t see well, he found happiness in storytelling again. For Clare, helping wasn’t just a task — it was making Jack’s dream a reality, showing how a person’s effort can make others’ dream come true.
