Even at 80, Mei Jingtian continues to watch over the Great Wall.
Living in a village near the Great Wall, Mei has a deep love for the wall. He still remembers he usually ran and played hide-and-seek with his friends on this impressive structure when he was a child. However, when he returned to the village after working outside for years, he was surprised by the damage to the ancient wall. “Some villagers even took bricks from it to build their houses,” Mei said.
To help protect the wonder, Mei volunteered to walk along the wall each day to check its condition, encouraging other villagers to join him. “Of course, it might be dangerous to hike in the mountains by myself, so I always tap the grassy ground along the way with a wooden stick, scaring wild animals away,” Mei said.
In 2006, as head of the village, Mei helped set up a local volunteer protection group. Realizing the importance of heritage protection, more and more villagers returned the bricks they had taken, and about 80 of them joined as volunteers. To ensure that the volunteers could carry out their duties effectively, Mei arranged for training programs on basic protection and safety measures. Together, they conducted daily check-ups to track the condition of the Great Wall and reported any damages.
Encouraged by her father, Mei’s daughter, followed him and officially became a Great Wall protector in 2019. “When I was a child, my father always told me his stories and talked about the history of the Great Wall,” Mei’s daughter said. “It is also my responsibility to protect the cultural heritage.”

One of our biggest fears nowadays is that our kids might someday get lost in a “sea of technology” rather than experiencing the natural world. TV and computer games are leading to a serious disconnect between kids and the great outdoors.
Each of us has a place in nature where we go sometimes, even if it is torn down. We cannot be the last generation to have that place. At this rate, kids who miss the sense of wonder outdoors will not grow up to be protectors of natural landscapes. “If the decrease in park use continues across North America, who will defend parks against encroachment (蚕食) ” asks Richard Louv, author of Last Child in the Woods.
Without having a nature experience, kids can turn out just fine, but they are missing out a huge enrichment of their lives. That applies to everything from their physical health and mental health, to stress levels, creativity and cognitive (认知的) skills. Experts predict modern kids will have poorer health than their parents — and a lack of outside play is surely part of it; research suggests that kids do better academically in schools with a nature exposure. Even a small outdoor experience can create wonder in a child. The three-year-old turning over his first rock realizes he is not alone in the world.
Kids are not responsible. They are just over-protected and frightened. It is dangerous outdoors from time to time, but when repetitive stress from computers is replacing breaking an arm as a childhood rite (仪式) during the children’s growth, it can be more dangerous.
We should help regain for our kids some of the freedom and joy of exploring nature and taking friendship in fields and woods that cement love, respect and need for landscape. As parents, we should devote some of our energies to taking our kids into nature. This could yet be our greatest cause.
13.What is the purpose of Paragraph 2
A.To show the great damage done to nature.
B.To recommend a popular book to the public.
C.To stress the necessity of kid’s going outdoors.
D.To raise the awareness of environmental protection.
14.What may happen to children without a nature experience
A.They’ll surely become a failure. B.They’ll keep a high sense of wonder.
C.They may suffer physically and mentally. D.They can develop better social skills.
15.What does the author think of children’s breaking an arm
A.It is not a bad thing in a sense. B.It is caused by the careless parents.
C.It should be taken seriously. D.It could be prevented from happening.
16.What should parents do according to the author
A.Ensure kids’ freedom and joy. B.Value outdoor activities of kids.
C.Bring kids science about nature. D.Advocate kids making friends.
With a love and fascination for traditional culture, many young Chinese have begun to use their creativity to innovate (创新) using elements from China’s intangible cultural heritage.
Papercutting, the traditional Chinese art of paper design, has been adopted in many creative arts, including food and clothing. On the Chinese lifestyle-focused social media platform Xiaohongshu, a video of cookies featuring a paper-cut styled dragon pattern received over 2.6 million views and 130,000 likes. Good study habits play an important role in raising confidence and getting higher marks in exams. Of course, it’s usually hard to build lasting study habits at first, but it won’t be too long before your new good habits become part of your routine. 21
Set a daily study time. Studying for a test begins well before you reach exam day. 22 By reserving a specific time each day for studying, it can be easier to focus, because you won’t have to worry about any other things competing for your attention.
Arrange your study space. Choose an area that is clean, well-lit, and free of distractions. Avoid sitting in front of the television or around a busy part of your home. Some people like to study in the library or coffee shop. 23
Turn off your electronics. Electronic devices are a big distraction, so remember to turn off your phone and television. Keep your cell phone away from you, as it will distract you. 24 When you need to use your computer while studying, stay away from social media, emails, and off-topic websites.
25 Plan a small reward for each day you study, such as time playing your favorite game, a piece of candy, or money to set aside for something you really want. Think of a weekly reward for meeting each daily goal that week, such as a few hours with your friends.
A.You should set aside time every day to study.
B.Only check your messages during break time.
C.Reward yourself for meeting your study goals.
D.Leave yourself enough time for games or time with friends.
E.To better your study habits, you can employ efficient ways of studying.
F.Break the information down so you’re only dealing with a little each day.

My name is Daniel. I was the new boy in the class. My father had been offered a better job in London, and our whole family had to move here. I was twelve and, having lost all my old friends, I felt shy and lonely at my new school. There were 33 students in my new class, and most people weren’t very interested in a shy new boy. Roy was one of the few people who were kind to me. He often invited me to join his particular group, and as a result, I started getting to know people. Roy and I became good friends. We trusted each other and we could talk about personal matters, things that were important to us.
Five years later, Roy and I are still in the same class. But just under a year ago, Roy’s father was knocked over by a car. He died a few days later. The family had to move to a much smaller house in order to manage financially. Roy, who had always been very close to his father, changed completely, becoming silent and moody. He had always been a clever, hard-working student but now he seemed to lose all interest in his work. I couldn’t stand seeing him like this, but I never got a chance to ask him. He just disappeared after school, returning in the morning looking tired. From time to time, he even fell asleep at his desk. Ms. Jones, our head teacher was worried about him as well. I decided to find out what was going on.
So, one day, having finished classes, I quickly put my books in my locker and grabbed my coat from the cloakroom (衣帽间). Roy was already on his way. I followed him. He moved fast along the towns streets. Having arrived at a small restaurant, he stopped. He turned around, looking sad and ashamed. Then he quickly swung the door open and ducked inside. I waited for a few moments, thinking what Roy was doing here.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)开头已给出。

41.strict 42.Free 43.different 44.homework 45.enjoyable
【原文】M: Good morning, everyone. I’m glad to be invited here to tell you something about life at college.
Unlike high schools, colleges don’t have a very strict schedule for classes. Also, you have more free time to do what you like. What you do with that free time tends to be different day by day. For example, I have only one class on Mondays from 9:30 am to 10:20 am. Then during the rest of the day, I am free until 6:00 pm when I begin to teach a boy math. That’s a lot of time. I might do different things such as taking a nap, working on homework, going out to have lunch with friends, studying for a test, and so on. Other days I have different classes, and my schedule will also change then.
On the whole, I find college life much more enjoyable than high school life. I like the freedom of not having to sit in a classroom for 8 hours. I’m responsible for my own time.
You’re going to college soon. And you’ll be able to know what college life is like better then.

Roy nodded in agreement and let out his secret -- he had to take on several part-time jobs after school so as to pay the heavy debt. “Will you keep it secret from others ” He begged. “Of course, I will.” I promised immediately but felt uneasy at the bottom of my heart.
I didn’t want to break my promise but I needed help from an adult. Finally, an idea occurred to me and I was determined to tell Ms. Jones about Roy’s situation. At my words, her jaw nearly dropped. “It’s really incredible! I need to give him a hand.” Before long, she secretly arranged a job for him at the school library, where he was paid a larger amount and had time to study. Roy doesn’t know that I told our teacher or that she helped. And I will never tell him. I’m just glad that my friend is happy again.
