The word“art” usually evokes( 唤起 ) images of white-walled galleries, abstract paintings costing millions of dollars and wealthy people, far removed from our everyday experience. Yet, art in the 21st century is a different story.
The Internet has weakened the idea that art appreciation is only for the rich. It has enabled more people than ever to have access to izens are not only consumers of art but creators and participants, too.The social media has made it much easier to share unprofessional work with the whole world. An unprofessional artist can now sell work or get advertising money from online videos.
“A picture is worth a thousand words” is the motto of data visualization(可视化) fans. The amount of information available today can be huge, so some people are working on presenting data using visually appealing diagrams that are easy for the public to understand. Of course, diagrams can also be used by dishonest people to mislead the audience, so we need to take care to interpret them the right way.
Another way that art advances education is by enabling us to understand concepts that are invisible to the naked eye. For most biology students, the names and functions of dozens of proteins go in one ear and out the other, but unforgettable videos like“The Inner Life of the Cell”turn proteins into tiny people with different jobs in a city of large machinery. The same goes for concepts in physics such as black holes-we can understand them better with the help of artists who have backgrounds in both art and science.
Even though most people may not be consciously aware of it, art is all around us. As most of our surrounding environment is man-made,everything in it contains some element of art and can influence our behavior-telling us where to go or how to interact with objects, feeding us true or false information and controlling our emotions. Art indeed has a greater impact than many would believe it does.

A real-life transforming robot designed to copy the movement of animals that live on Planet Earth will finally change the way other planets will be explored, researchers said.
The robot, called“Morphobot,” was inspired by animals such as birds, meerkats and sea lions, according to a paper published in Nature on Tuesday. Sea lions walk on land using their flippers, meerkats stand on their back legs to look around and chukar birds use their wings to walk on all fours up steep inclines(斜坡).
By copying the ways these animals move, the robot can perform different types of movement to get through its environment, including flying, rolling, balancing, crawling, crouching and tumbling(爬行、蹲伏和翻滚), the researchers said.
The Morphobot was designed to travel over various surfaces on land and in the air by transforming its appendages(附属物) between wheels, propellors(推进器), legs and hands. The robot weighs around 13 pounds, and is about27.5 inches wide and 13.8 inches tall. It also has four legs, with ducted fans fixed at the leg ends. The fans are able to transition(转变) between functioning as legs, propellors or wheels.
The robot is able to adapt its movements to walk on stony ground, climb steep inclines, tumble over large objects, fly to higher levels and crawl in narrow pathways, Alireza Ramezani, an assistant professor of electrical computer engineering at Northeastern University and author of the study, told ABC News.
When the creation of the Morphobot began, Ramezani, a robotics expert known for his nature-inspired designs, imagined a machine that could move both on the ground and in the air.
Ramezani believes his newest design is the future of space exploration. "I'm confident it is going to replace some traditional mobile robots at NASA, " Ramezani said. “The whole idea is to change the way that future space explorations look.”
46. What inspired the Morphobot
A. A few animals. B. A paper in Nature.
C. A few Earth-like planets. D. A traditional mobile robot.
47. What is special about the Morphobot
A. It can transform its color to match its environment.
B. It can function on land and in the sea.
C. It can produce various bird sounds.
D. It can move in different ways.
48. What does paragraph 4 mainly tell us about the Morphobot
A. Its limitations. B. Its specific application situations.
C. Its design. D. Its research history.
49. What does Ramezani expect of the Morphobot
A. It can change how people view space exploration.
B. It can become a game-changer in space exploration.
C. It can inspire more people to join in space exploration.
D. It can encourage the reuse of traditional robots in space exploration.
50. What is the best title for the text
A. The future of space robots
B. Morphobot: a nature-inspired exploration robot
C. How robots are changing the world
D. Morphobot: the first flying robot in the world
第四节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
My dad is a kind’ gentle man, and a man of few words. Throughout my life, he offered advice rarely. But the words were always appropriate to the situation I was facing.
As a teen when I struggled with making sense of the world around me,he said, “All things are relative.” He taught me the right view of the world. When I was offered the opportunity to be a manager of an organization as an undergraduate student, I asked him for advice because he was a senior manager of a large company. His advice was simple,“Only when you become the manager can you have a vision for how you can make the organization better; management isn't about power and it's about leadership.” I learned what I needed was not only to be responsible for my team but also to have leading ability. When I was feeling down, he explained, “Think that you make the wrong choices in life, sometimes.”
My dad is 86 now, living on his own and enjoying life while struggling with the challenges that aging brings. He keeps a positive attitude despite long pain and the losses that come in life. Although we live quite far away from each other, we talk daily on the phone, and he shares the joys of my young family. As I tell him how we' re heading off cycling or on a trip or out to play tennis, now his typical response is, “Do it while you can.” This is very important. We can't be sure of the future. My father's advice is like the ancient dictum (格言) of “carpe diem”——seize the day and enjoy it to the fullest.
My dad rarely“lectured me”. He trusted me, and helped me when I needed help. His patience and wisdom have been true gifts in my life. As I doubt my ability and my motivation, I recall his most recent gift of wisdom, “Do it while you can”. It's enough to“just get me started”.
51. Why did the author's dad tell him“All things are relative.” (No more.than 10 words)
52. What qualities should a manager have according to the author (No more than 5 words)
53. What is the purpose of the author's father talking with him on the phone every day (No more than 10 words)
54. How do you understand the underlined sentence in the last paragraph (No more than 10 words)
55. How do you feel about the ancient dictum of“carpe diem” (No more than 20 words)
